Child's Name: Gail
Personality: Solemn, morbid, snippy - she's not the sort of girl people instantly fall in love with. But she's eagle-eyed with a long memory, and someday she knows she'll inherit the earth.

Just as some of your friends start to lunge towards the snowy fields to follow the cardinal, some turn towards the farmer's house. You look at both groups, confused on just what to do next, the group divided on the best course of action.

"We should CHASE it right away!" one of the girls cries out.

"No!" A boy glares. "We should go talk to the FARMER first!"

There's a bit of bickering going on. There's merits to both choices: on the one hand, you can try to keep the cardinal in sight as it wobbles towards the forest, and on the other hand, the farmer might be able to help. Since it's obvious the group wont be staying together...what do you choose to do?

(( You have until 9am PST/12pm EST tomorrow to post your response.

      * NOTE: There is no elimination this round. Your choice will simply take you down a different path! ))

Conchita can't help being who she is and is already all for chasing after the creature, eager for play time. Her imagination is already running wild. Maybe it's a fairy disguised as a bird and it grants wishes! Or maybe it's in terrible trouble and is leading them all towards a giant's castle!

She just HAS to know!

The choice was clear for Lila. She wasn't going to run in the other direction and potentially lose the cardinal. She took off, chasing after it, with gleeful hope she'd get to it first.

Sugarplum shifted from foot to foot as she watched the bickering kids split up. With a goofy grin, she sucked on her oversized lollipop and exclaimed with a shriek, "The FARMER might have candy!!!" It wasn't long before she was skipping along after the group towards the farmer's house Those kids were crazy. This path would lead to a world with a cardinal and lots of candy! Lots and lots of candy.

Joe had made up his mind to chase after the cardinal. However, he decided not to right away. Sure, he recalled the farmer already having told them to be careful. But, did the farmer happen to know about cardinals and where they stay around here? Maybe if he tried bringing it up with the farmer before going off to search and follow after the one they had just seen, the farmer could point out the quickest way to spot some and possibly catch up to the one they had just seen in particular. Yup, Joe was set on asking the farmer for info first. If there ends up being no info to gather, well then Joe would just search for the cardinal without any. He didn't want to sit around not having any fun exploring and trying to hunt for the cardinal, too.

"Do you know where red birds like to be around here?" Joe asked after hurriedly stomping over to get the farmer's attention for an answer to his question.

Torn between the two decisions, Waffle couldn't figure out what was best. Between the excitement of the bird appearing and disappearing, cries of candy and the farmer, and everything else, nothing seemed to make sense. Pursing his lips and gazing out at the forest, the young boy turned away and ran towards the group trailing towards the farmer. If the bird was as injured as it seemed, someone needed to be able to help it and he was sure the farmer would know what was best for the small creature. And, if he was being honest with himself, he was sort of afraid of plunging into the forest, not knowing what was inside. Having an adult with them would make sure they were safe.

Rae flipped her little pigtails on her shoulder, shaking her head. These silly children. If you wanted things done, you had to do it for yourself, not depend on an 'adult'. Rae knew better.

Lifting her skirt up to run better, she chased after the red cardinal. It was a pretty little thing and she wanted to look at it longer!

Miller panicked. Everyone was splitting up. He wanted to make sure that whichever group he went with was filled with the most cool kids. Most importantly, cool girls. He decided to chase after the cardinal in hopes of impressing the girls by catching it. If he caught it, they'd fawn all over him, and the other boys would be jealous. Hopefully then they'd like him a little bit more.

He was at that special age where his identity and self-worth were greatly tied to the thoughts of his peers.

Tessa was gone before she could partake in the argument over who should go where; her bare feet flying over the dirt and grass beneath them, tough soles ignoring the pokes and prods of the occasional rock or other nature-like debris. Her blue dress fluttered around her legs like wings, long brown hair flowing behind her and tangling in branches. She was determined to help that CARDINAL, regardless of what the other children wanted or what the farmer said.

"Farmers don't know nothin'," was all Petri said and then he was off, running as fast as he could after the other children and chasing the bird to where it must ultimately land. He did his best, despite his short legs and a little bit of extra weight, to get past everyone else, wanting to be the first one there.

Melody looked around nervously as the other children ran off in one of two directions, she thought maybe it would be better not to talk to a strange farmer, and went after the cardinal.

A little fledgling sneer fell over Gail's face - not entirely unusual for her, admittedly. She directed that petulant little glare at the children who gave chase to the bird immediately. Amateurs, she thought, a bit cruelly - she needed more information before she'd act herself, of course. So she'd hang back as others with their cute dimpled faces sashayed forward to tease answers from the farmer. She didn't have their abilities of, er, persuasion, but in her own quite humble opinion, her memory was quite detailed. The more questions she heard answered, the more complete the information she'd have.

Then she'd make her move.

Liz didn't care about things like farmers or permission. Right now, the bird was the point, and anything else was pointless.

She Chased the damn thing.

      CHASE

Either caught up in the moment or just simply knowing you don't need the word of an adult, you and your friends decided to chase the cardinal before it was out of sight.

The run is brisk, lungs filling with the chilly air, each child leaving their own line of passage in the snow, disrupting the clean and unblemished fields of white. It doesn't take too long to reach the line of the forest, where the cardinal has disappeared. Undaunted, you follow your prey that you've made the decision to follow to the bitter end, and it takes only a handful of minutes until you and your group have lost sight of the cardinal, the forest so dense that the sun can barely trickle through the boughs at all.

Though you're pretty sure it's just the group of you that's awake and moving in the forest, there is a creaking and groaning in the air as snow shifts on the heavy trees, the crunch of snow and dead foliage at your feet, and...hey, did one them just whisper? You all look at each other. No one has said anything, but...there's a whisper. It's inaudible and barely snatched in the icy air, but there's definitely something making noise.

You can't stay here forever. Forward is too dense for the cardinal to have flown through, and back is out of the question. You confer with your group. Do you go left, which is just as dark as where you are and possibly opening up to a path in the distance, or do you go right, where it seems the whispers get just a little louder...?
