Taym gave Ever a look half of sympathy, half of disgust. Even with 50% negativity levels it was still considerably better than the sort of look he'd normally have given him. "It needs to go on the internet," he repeated, faintly incredulous. "And you need to be able to write on it. Maybe you should just take a leave day with someone moderately knowledgeable about technology."

Ever's reply, though, wasn't embarrassed; it was a slow curl of something amused, both of his eyebrows going up. Taym seemed almost angry about his ignorance, and Ever was tempted to poke back, out of simple habit. "Are you volunteering, Thompson?" And of course he wasn't, Ever got that point. He'd straighten, at last, nudging himself up to stand and shaking his head just a little bit. "It's fine. I've got a reliable so and so. And I bet if I go into Mary with a computer and say I need to get on to take classes he'll help me out." Mary had seemed remarkably, almost dangerously, good natured.

He was that. Ever wasn't the only Lifer who'd sympathetically witnessed Taym losing his lunch. At his name Taym shot him a glance. "What's his story, anyway?" asked Taym, apparently expecting Ever to know it.

"He wears ugly shirts." The answer came easily, with a shrug: that was most of what Ever knew. That and the fact that Mary didn't have the edge of danger H did, was good HR in comparison. He shook himself out, eyes raking over the papers in front of Taym to see if there were any books buried in the mess. "I'm working, I should probably go."

"Good luck with your laptop," he said vaguely, already half-dismissing him. "And let me know how the online classes thing goes. I assume it's for Life only but I've always wanted to take Latin. I can probably bribe someone."

"Yeah, me. You can totally bribe me." That made his expression light up, bright, and then shift to something almost sly, teasing. Ever took a couple steps backward. "You cost me 500 bucks you know. That thing I missed. Big bonus, and all I got was your vomit on my shoes."

Without looking up Taym reached into his pocket, pulled out his wallet, procured his Deus-issue debit card, and handed it over. "The PIN is 0342. This isn't a bribe, though--I meant to sign me up for an actual class--so don't take more than five hundred bucks." It was, as usual, alarmingly difficult to tell whether he was joking.

It was actually enough to stun Ever -- reaching out to take the card and then pausing, not quite sure what to do with it. Taking it seemed sleazy, but not taking it just seemed stupid. "We could try to talk them into giving me a bonus, too, instead..."

The card remained outstretched. The page Taym was examining went into a stack, and he picked up another. "I just got a raise. Although I feel compelled to point out I might have ruined your chances for a bonus but I also ruined your chances for spending the next week huddled up injured and nightmare-ridden. Vomit on your shoes, not too bad."

"You take everything so seriously." He shook his head, twitchy, as he said it: and then gave in. He'd take the card, to steal five hundred bucks from Taym. Why not? He could add it to his new laptop budget, and return the card to Taym's door when he was done. "...but I don't think I've ever turned down free money." And so Ever would steal the card, neatly. "Too late to change your mind."
