((This is um. In the past! Since Lloren technically joined about a year ago?!))
Lloren swaggered down the hill, waving hello and delivering smiles to random other trainees like some celebrity parading by, not a care in the world. The sun was shining, thankfully not in her face shielded somewhat by one of her dad's fishing hats, and everything was just hilarious. Obscured by the shade, Lloren's eyes carried a look somewhere between amusement and desperation; she was simply refusing to let wearing the 3DMG harness to be awkward. It took all of her focus to ignore the part of her reality that had struggled for the better part of an hour to equip something whilst having thoughts about how it could have been designed to look much more dignified. A full-body armor, for instance. You can put hooks on that. Costs aside, that could prove to be much more shock-absorbing. Right?!
But this was her life now. They had, after all, enlisted to become soldiers- and while wearing the uniform of a soldier was far from lining up with the north-hailing pun enthusiast's actual motivations, it was all part of the path that would lead her to her goals. A hundred something trainees were lining up in front of unnecessarily huge contraptions to test their balance with, publicly wiggling like buffoons in oversized baby swings. And she was to be one of them. It had taken this long for her to begin having second thoughts. She would forgive herself for backing out now, she knew that much. But how could she possibly ever forget her dreams?
Finally, it was her turn. Despite a tumultuous mind, Lloren kept on smiling and joking to the others around her. Why shouldn't she? If a self-professed comedian couldn't make light of the situation, who would?
And a lot of light was indeed made that day, because she spent about eight whole minutes trying to tie mounting device to harness (why were the hooks so weirdly placed?!) before they could begin. And then as she began to lift off the ground, pain seared through her sides. "WAIT- AAAGHH! OW! OW! THAT HURTS! LET ME DOWN!"
A few minutes later, she was sitting in the nurses office. "You equipped the harness in inverse? The whole thing, flipped inside out, and you didn't notice? How did you even tie the belts?" Asked an assistant. "...Yep. I figured it had been. A little bit too difficult to put on. Look, how about you just, leave me alone now. I've got some major mental wounds to tend to, okay?" She implored, hands against her forehead. It had been a tough day. "...Right." The assistant mercifully complied, leaving the office.

Santos was screaming again. His bellowing voice carried that same grating tone that it usually did, but he was walking about far more animatedly than he had during previous interactions with the man.
"Listen up, you wanna-be military bloodstains! What you're going to learn here today - with me as your self-appointed mentor - is how to swing between some big, strong, unforgiving trees. And if you end up splattered against one, well, that's one less mouth that we'll have to feed around here."
Santos grinned. Nobody else smiled.
"You have already been through some 3DMG gear training with Gazelle. Now, let me tell you something. Gazelle knows what she's talking about when it comes to theoretical use of 3DMG. You sit in a little swing and you bob around and if you're good at it, you sit upright. If you're bad at it, you blow chunks all over yourself. So you pups must be good at it, because now you've fallen into my capable hands, and we're about to go swinging through some trees so that you can get a better feel for your gear."
He paused.
"You ever fly through the air so fast your eyeballs felt like they were gonna pop through the back of your head? No?"
He rubbed his hands together.
"You're in for a real treat."
Santos grinned broadly, toothily, and clapped his hands loudly.
"Suit up, and get your asses moving. I'm looking forward to you all peeling yourselves off the ground. Been looking forward to it all week."Week 2 HOW THIS WORKS!!!There are a series of 10 trees that you have to alternate between. You have to make it through 8 of 10 trees in order to pass! The Mechanics!!Roll eight 4-sided dice. For every EVEN NUMBER that you roll, you have successfully dodged a tree!! For every ODD NUMBER that you roll, you have either hit a tree face on, or grazed against a tree hard enough that you've damaged your gear, or hurt yourself, or something else that suits the exercise. How you RP it out is completely up to you! You will need to run through the course again by re-rolling 8d4 until your cumulative reaches 8 dodges. So if I get 2, 4, 1, 3, 2, 4, 1, 4 on the first roll, I will need to reroll and hope for at least three more even numbers. You do NOT have to roll 8 evens in a row, just CUMULATIVE. That means that as long as you have EIGHT MISSES TOTAL, you have passed this portion of the course!! Once you've gotten your cumulative eight successful rolls, post this form in thread: I've made it! Link your rolls: Total successes for roll one: Total successes for roll two: (etc) Total trees dodged:
You have until July 27th at 11:59PM EDT to respond to this prompt. { apologies, this one is going to be a bit shorter than the last. }

It was time to get started with the actual maneuvering part of their training, now that balance was all taken care of. Shun took some time, adjusting his equipment, then took in a deep breath once it was time for him to get started. In his first run, things went pretty terribly. For one reason or another, he was having difficulty.
This wasn't the same as running through the streets jumping and climbing over obstacles. By the time he had finished the first attempt, he was battered, bruised, and his equipment was damaged.
He hissed lightly after coming back to the ground, closing his eyes for a few moments. If a Titan had been present, he would have been killed for certain there. That wasn't acceptable. He was going to need to get his gear fixed, then try again.

Shun didn't really give himself as much time to rest as he should have, after his previous attempt. With this second run, he ended up battering himself even more. He wasn't sure why he was struggling so much with this exercise. Balancing was something he had more or less aced. On the ground, he could move around with great ease and agility.
He gritted his teeth after having finished, pushing aside the feelings of pain to the best of his ability. He was incredibly sore now, though, and bleeding a bit too due to scraping against the bark numerous times.

[Prompt Response]Shun took some extra time after his last run. He closed his eyes for some time, trying to clear his head and assess what he was doing wrong. Once he felt he was ready to try again, he launched off. It was a shaky start, to say in the last. He bashed into a few more trees, but then he was getting the hang of it, successfully weaving around instead of into them. While he had improved that time around, he wasn't satisfied with his performance just yet. He was going to need a great deal more practice. 8/8 I've made it! Shakuntala had her little fun trying out the gear, but actually putting her practice to use was the meat and potatoes of the entire portion. Landing on a branch, she clutched onto the trunk and tried to mark out a path before her. Then, descending from it, she tried to dodge as many trees as she could to get a keen approval from the instructor.
Her first try was so-so. She managed to twist and turn passed half the trees, but she struck too close to others and banged up the gear remarkably bad. By the time she landed to the ground with a skid, the 3DMG wouldn't even let out a grapple. Guess she'd have to give it a go again.

This run for the copper-skinned girl was a slightly worse than her first. Shakuntala found herself comically slipping up on thin branches and knocking into trees like a squirrel with slippery paws. Halfway through her trek, she banged her shoulder up badly, and wanted to take a moment to rest before finishing. However, fearing scorn from Santos for mucking around instead of finishing what she started, the girl was careful the rest of her run with a slight slip-up on her penultimate tree.
Shakuntala let out a sigh when she landed and cast her eyes to the canopy above as she held her shoulder. Like horseback riding, one had to ease into the pain of practice to find comfort in the exercise.
But is it supposed to hurt this much? she thought in dismay as pain radiated from her joint.

Shakuntala's last run was her worst of all. Dodging trees were the least of her concerns, actually making it out alive was what she wished for most. She managed to avoid two of the eight trees that pummeled her to pulp. When she reached the end of the course, she flopped into the grass and curled into a ball of pain and ouchie. She needed a lot of practice to master the 3DMG and all of the aches that came with it.

After the balancing fiasco, Axel was not thrilled about having to put theory into practice. It seemed all too likely that he would fail, and probably cop a beatdown from Santos Baldy himself for his failure. Even the more agile trainees were having difficulty with the course.
Well, the longer he waited, the worse it would get, right? And this would be good practice. Axel didn't plan on entering the Scouts, but even if you were in the Garrison you needed to know this stuff, right?
After nervously double-checking his equipment, Axel stepped forward and tried his luck.
Oh cool, he dodged one! Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Woohoo--OUCH. Ouch.
The equipment was battered, there was a sharp pain in his hip where the box had been smashed against him by an unfortunately placed tree, and he was scraped up by bark.
Well, at least he hadn't been knocked out this time.

[Prompt Response]That was embarrassing, but not as embarrassing as it could have been. Small blessings, right? Happily most of the bruises were on him rather than his gear. After assuring himself that his equipment, while dented, was still functioning, Axel gave it another shot. This time around he was determined to succeed. If he kept screwing up, it was only a matter of time before he found himself back in Shiganshina digging ditches. Here goes nothing. With only a single minor bump, Axel found himself on the other end of the course, having successfully dodged most of the trees. He felt his head, wondering if he had perhaps cracked his skull (again) and was hallucinating the whole thing. Nope, everything was in order. Somehow, he had done pretty damn well. Pleased, Axel stepped aside for the rest of the trainees. [8/8] I've made it! Link your rolls: Total successes for roll one: 2 Total successes for roll two: 7 Total trees dodged: 9

Lenore stepped up to the starting zone, still fairly confident after the success of the last training exercise, but having a bad feeling about it all the same. Taking a deep breath, she exhaled and launched herself forward. She weaved through two trees, but slammed into the third with all the grace of a drunk rhino. Undeterred, she set off again, slamming into five more trees. Officially deterred, she walked painfully back to the starting zone.
