Sure, a business has to do what it's got to do, but this kind of execution is just plain poor in my opinion. sweatdrop It's working...they still get buyers...but it's leaving those who adamantly do not want to spend with a bad taste in their mouths. Comparing experiences is...well, kind of moot, seeing as others haven't seen worse like you have. They are uncomfortable nonetheless. I'm sure most people are aware there is nothing to "win" and they're not really being forced to buy these virtual items but it's pretty jarring to constantly have something you're not interested in shoved in your face. It's not exactly easy to ignore either, as there are those who watch the announcements in the hopes of seeing a gold shop, plot, or feature update.
I suppose I worded my post poorly, though. When I mention "the end of Gaia", I meant it more with the sentiment that, we don't know when but it's going to end someday. As all things do.

Yeah, I find at least five "announcements" every time I log in. It would be great to be able to opt out of those and still get actual announcements.
I'm also on Reddit and such, but that's not really the sort of platform you're talking about, so...
Exactly, I'm surprised there's no option to just turn the announcement bubbles off given that there's this thing in the bottom left corner of the homepage:
Nah, I'm kind of curious about any sort of platform anyone uses here. It's why I made this thread? So what's Reddit like, anyway? o:
Captain Strangeling
Youkai Saint
The gimmick with Club Verge, apparently, is to have the first crack at items that will be released some time later into La Victoire—meaning, being among the first to put them on the market and taking advantage of the "ooh shiny must have it now" mentality in order to make serious bank off them. ninja
But I'm in agreement that it's a pretty silly strategy. xd
I think Loyal's Bazaar is actually a good idea though. All that gold being pumped into the system needs somewhere to sink, and well...it's a start. More needs to happen (*coughlikenotreleasinganymoregoldgeneratorsgoddammitcough*), but it's a start. As for the requirement, it's not 75 days in a row, and for a day to count, I'm pretty sure you only need to be logged in a few seconds. But to be honest, I actually think that's too lenient. sweatdrop

Blue just quoted Green. I'm strangely amused.
...So that item's where you got your profile picture! It all makes delicious berry sense now!

Ah, so not just chatty stuff and Gaia-esque forums. Righto. Anyway, it's a bit like a massive forum. People post and discuss links and text, and there's an upvote/downvote feature to rate content and comments (much friendlier than it sounds, in my experience). There are "subreddits" dedicated to certain things, such as fandoms or just interesting stuff. For example, I frequent r/masseffect, and there's also r/tales. It's a pretty good place, and is very lurker-friendly if that's your style.
I have a confession to make. I have been cheating on Gaia with Recolor.me. lol It's run by the guy who made Tektek!
For now I'm mostly just fiddling around with the avatar system, not really chatting. It's pretty innovative to me. It uses hue and saturation sliders to change the colors of items at no extra virtual currency cost. And hairstyles, eye, and skin tone changes are also all free!
If I do say so myself, it's kind of reminiscent of the early, simpler days of Gaia, though it lacks a solid plot and actual world.
If you try to go to the site, though, you'll find that you need to sign up first to see anything at all. sweatdrop But if you are interested in checking it out, please sign up through this link? I get a free item out of it, but it's cool if you don't want to.

I meant to say this much, much earlier, but whoever signed up, thank you. emotion_yatta

So....Not sure if it's true or not, but Gaia just as a Term stating they can "shut down without warning and take all the cash spent and whatnot". In fact, here's a thing I found in Loyal's Bizarre just now. It might be a bit edited for exaggeration (might be. not sure.), but the point is clear:
"So yeah, we can shut this whole thing down whenever we like, without telling anyone, you won't be able to get any of your unspent money back, and if you don't like it, then piss off."
So. It might be a good time to find new sites to role play and keep in contact with each other if that's something. Like, now. Because, they're setting it up to take all the cash and run. Covering their asses legally so we can't sue them when it does happen.

Heh, I've had a look at that thread. It just echoes every other cry of doomsday I've seen posted all too often in GCD and SF that usually gets debunked with more well-informed words. I'm very sorry if I came off as haughty in my wording, but it gets as grating as the many cash announcements that Gaia pushes out in a day. So yeah...while I certainly don't like the way they currently run business, I still don't believe Gaia will be shutting down that shortly.
The clause has always been there in some form. It's also legalese that every site like this is required to have in their ToS. The wording was probably updated (since December of last year, for the record) in lieu of what happened to TinierMe. So it's not really "hee hee let's set it up to milk these suckers of their cash and be set for life", it's more "o crap we need to cover our a** in case we end up accidentally doing a thing like TinierMe did."
I could get into the web of effect behind what happened to TinierMe but that's going off on a tangent probably no one wants to hear.... =w=;;
I was gone for about an hour and when I got back, I had 8 announcements! It was kind of annoying. As for other sites, I have a Colette RP account on Instagram. If any of you have an account feel free to follow colette_brunel_! The Tales Community on there is amazing! They're great people! biggrin
Honestly the places I hang out are mostly very specific forums for very specific tastes. However I'm also very active on Myth-Weavers, which is an online play by post roleplaying forum, if anyone's interested in looking me up there as Cross Malaki.
That said, I might join recolor.me through Azura's link, and I'm also on skype and steam... But I really don't have a lot of online hang outs really...

I became really upset when they took off zOMG! The guilds, zOMG! and the LI forums are really the only things I did on here. They took zOMG! away and so I kind of just RQ for awhile. I joined a thread that refuses to buy Gaia Cash until it's restored. I know there's probably no hope for that but it's not like there's anything on here worth buying anymore, anyway.
I even saw in the cash shop there was an item selling for a million Gaia Cash. rolleyes
If I'm gonna spend a ridiculous amount of money on virtual items online, it better be in an MMO and I better be able to tank a whole freaking map for that kind of money.
That being said, I very rarely go on Facebook. And I mainly play an MMO called Aika Online. I stopped spending on here so I could spend on there and, oh, I don't know, actually enjoy what I'm spending. neutral
**EDIT: Oh, and for the record... for the money I spend on that game, I DO tank whole maps!
My friends and guildies on that game don't call me "Wild Reva" for nothing! (IGN is Revatail).
Hmm, for the sake of having it out there, I have a myriad of places one can find me. Though, whether I'm there regularly is another matter. The main places you can find me are on dA as RebelLucario or Skype as JaronTheKitsune. I have accounts for quite a few MMOs which I'll list in a spoiler tag to keep things slim and trim. Fyi though, I'm not terribly active in most of them, in fact I've not actually gotten any farther than the account creation stage for like half of them. sweatdrop But if anyone happens to play those MMOs and wants to hang out with me in them I can make an effort to join up with you, whatever that entails.
Elder Scrolls Online - Korsall Star Wars: The Old Republic - Korsall Selec (I think... Haven't been able to download it on this computer yet. Download disk doesn't work and I've been too lazy procrastinating about downloading from the site.) Runescape - either Korgoth001 or Korsall is what you'll need to find me Digimon Masters Online - Korsall/SalemAmrett Guild Wars 2 - Jaron Ragnarok Online 2 - Korsall MarvelHeroes - KorsallSelec Need For Speed: World - Korsall226 on US Chicane server / Korsall on US Apex server, also my main server. Battlefield Play4Free - Korsall (I think Ace_Hardlight as well, not sure if they fall together or not) Ghost Recon Phantoms - Korsall01 FallenSword - Korsall Roblox - Korsall League of Legends - Korsall01 Dungeons and Dragons Online - Korsall Rift - Korsall Defiance - Korsall Selec MapleStory/Mabinogi/Vindictus - (PyroManiac5? - Account name on Vindictus but unsure about others)
I also frequent a few other sites that aren't MMOs, which I'll list here under another spoiler tag.
Bug me there, if you've got an account. I've been having a good time so far.

Yes! I have a tumblr, PrincessPretear is my url.
I also enjoy Instagram (I don't mean to be picky about this one, but if you follow me, I may not follow you back unless you are an IRL cosplayer since that's what I like to see) but my username is WiggleWettles.
