Returning Home

The look on Nereza's face when she saw her wife and child come through the front door of their home was a rather priceless one, one in which her eyes went wide, her mouth dropped open, and she could only stare in prolonged silence. It was a silence that wasn't last though as she rushed forward, her long skirts rustling, and the moment she got close enough to do so she set to inspecting her son. After a moment she turned to give her wife the best glare she could muster, "What happened? Where is all of this blood from? Mellony! You said you were going to keep him from getting hurt!" She said in a voice that was a little high pitched from worry, something that had Mellony doing her best to keep from laughing. She had dealt with Nereza long enough to know that laughing during one of her rants only fuel the mage and would cause her to continue on with with it.

Shaking her head the magic wielding woman said with a sigh, "I knew I should have gone with the two of you! I could have used my magic to deal with those dragons and keep them from hurting him." She said, her tone showing her displeasure with the fact that she hadn't been there to turn those offensive Ysali to dust for getting to close to her baby. It wasn't something that pleased her, not in the least bit, and she wouldn't stand for it! Those stupid dragons, if he had even a scratch she would end all of them she thought to herself darkly. As she searched for the source of blood though she found little in the way of real damage, only superficial things, as well as a torn up sleeve on the outfit that he was wearing. Did that mean that he hadn't been hurt? He was alright? She could stop fretting? It almost seemed as though that were the case, something that had her heart rate slowing down to where it was supposed to be instead of attempting to beat its way out of her chest.

As if sensing that she was calming a bit Merikh shifted in place, waiting for a chance to speak, and when he saw it he finally said, "None of it's mine, Mom. It's actually all Ysali blood that got all over me during my battle with them." He said, grinning a bit before he set brought out the two orbs from his pack, showing them off to her, "Neat, huh? It took a bit of time to take the two down, they weren't quite as weak as I'd expected, but it was so worth it! Two orbs all my own! Great right? Come on, Mom, admit it!" He bragged, doing his best to keep from bouncing in place.

It seemed as though her son showing off for her it worked out as a good way to distract Nereza away from her ranting at Mellony. The woman turned her attention to the pair of orbs that her son was holding out and she fell silent for a moment, reaching to touch first one orb and then the other, as though to prove they were in fact right there. She gave a bit of a laugh then, "Wow, this is amazing, Merikh, you took on two Ysali all on your own?" She murmured, then turned to glance over at Mellony, getting a nod from her, before looking back again. She trusted that her wife wouldn't lie to her about this, their son had in fact done it all on his own, he'd taken on a pair of Ysali and won. It was something that she couldn't help but to be completely impressed by given his young age and the fact that it was their first battle.

"You are a wonderful boy, Merikh, I am quite proud." Nereza said, reaching into the sleeve of her fancy dress, withdrawing a handkerchief, using it to wipe off his cheek before giving him a kiss there, "Now, before you drench our floor with blood I think you should see about heading to the bathing chambers, you need to clean yourself up. Once you are done with that I want to hear all about your battle, is that alright?"

Merikh tucked the Ysali Orbs back into his pack, then laughed, "Yeah, I am a bit of a mess, huh?" He could feel it, the way that the blood was plastering his clothing and his hair to his skin, and he could only imagine what he look liked to his mom and mother who had their third eyes already as well as their ability to really see. It was something he longed for if only to be able to see as clearly as his parents were able to do. The third eye though, it was a gift from the Dark Lady, something that only those most devoted to the cause got, and as such he knew he couldn't get such power by wishing for it. No, he had to work hard, train hard, fight and kill, and do whatever it took to make himself shine in the darkness of Soudul, to impress not only Lord Draco but the Dark Lady Soudana herself, "I am gonna drop the orbs off in my room, get something fresh to wear, then go get a bath. After that though I will tell you all about what I did!"

Turning toward his mother he gave her a smile, "I can't wait until we hunt again!" He said, bowing to both, then said, "Can Grandpa be there when I tell the story? I couldn't have done it without his dagger after all, I want him to hear too!" He told them, hoping that his beloved grandfather would enjoy hearing Merikh's battle story as much as Merikh loved hearing the all of the stories the older Oblivionite always had to tell. With that he was hurrying off, leaving a bit of a mess in his wake. That was what the servants were for those, they would deal with it and likely before Merikh was even done with his bath.

Nereza watched the boy go before turning to look at her wife once more, "I am going next time. I saw the look of his clothing, it was a close call and I don't like it." She said, crossing her arms under her ample chest, and gave Mellony a long look, something that caused the warrior to stare a moment before nodding.

"Of course, love, of course. Now, how about we go get father and we all get ready for story time, hm? While I saw it all I think it would be more interested to hear what it was like from our son's perspective. Things always seem much different to those just starting out after all." Not to mention that it would look vastly different someone like Merikh who was still a weaponless apprentice who had gone through none of the changes that an Oblivionite went through as they grew and evolved into more perfect warriors. Lacing her fingers together with those of Nereza the two of them went in search of Gethin, certain that the man would be more then eager to hear about Merikh's first battle on his own.

As Strange As They Come

Merikh is hanging out not far outside the city when a mocking voice draws his attention from the shadows. It turns out the voice belongs to a strange girl with mixed blood. She has the ability to rile Merikh up like nothing else and gets him to go with her to see which of them is a better dragon hunter...

The Aftermath

The family was currently in the sitting room of the house, with Nereza and Mellony on one couch, while Merikh was sitting on the other couch alongside his grandfather Gethin, with a decorative coffee table sitting between them. Sitting on the table was four tea cups, a tea pot, and the Diabi Orb that had been given to him earlier after the run in Merikh and Lilith had with the dark, dangerous dragon. Nereza reached out, picking up her cup, holding it in her hands for a moment, before taking a slow sip from it. Only silence reigned in the room, nobody saying anything, just a lot of starring, waiting, and watching, as though everyone wanted someone else to say something first.

Finally it was Gethin that spoke up when it seemed as though his neither his daughter, her wife, and nor his grandchild wanted to give up playing the waiting game. Lifting a hand up he rested it on top of Merikh's head, ruffling his hair before he looked over at daughter, giving her a long look, "Nereza, you know full that while what he did was stupid that you did far worse when you were younger. Always dragging your bodyguard about into dangerous situations as well as just around the city." She said, tsking his daughter before he looked down at Merikh once more, "While I can't say that I approve of him teaming up with a mixed blood on the hunt at least he scored an impressive prize after all. There are many men, powerful and well trained men, that never see something like this for various reasons."

Merikh gave a sighing sound before he looked over at his grandfather, "I didn't team up with her! That idiot dragon summoner... I was just proving to her that I was a better dragon fighter then her! She hadn't even fought with any dragons before but she made it seem as though she was so much better then me. As though someone like her could beat me." He muttered to himself, slouching back against the couch, looking at the Diabi Orb, "We were just supposed to fight with a Ysali Dragon! She called in that monster instead of a Ysali, using some weird language that the Diabi seemed to respond to. It was such bull!" He complained to his grandfather, wanting him to understand that he wasn't making friendly with some mix blooded weirdo. It wasn't like that at all he was just trying to prove himself and show her up.

There was a moment of silence before Gethin started to laugh, hard, his long tail swishing in amusement, "Is that what it was? Didn't want to get shown up by some mix breed girl, huh? That I can understand." Reaching a hand out he scooped up the Diabi Orb he looked it over, studying it, before he gave a smile, "You need to keep in mind though that one cannot always rise to such bait though. Such a person is an enemy to us, to our ideals, and there is no reason for you to prove yourself against someone like that."

Giving a smile he then said, "It's a difficult thing, to be able to ignore the taunts of our enemies. Their words drive us, they blind us, and if you allow yourself to be dragged by their whim you will just end up in over your head. You need to plan things ahead, be prepared for all of your potential battles, and realize that in the future you might very well have soldiers under your command that you will need to think about. You need to think not only about yourself and what you stand to gain but instead you need to think about your men, those you need to protect, as a good leader should. Never let someone else take the lead, especially your enemies, understand?"

Merikh nodded his head, "I think I do." He murmured, finding it a tough pill to swallow but if he were to become a great man like his grandfather then he wasn't going to be able to think only of himself when he was older. He had to get to that point though and he wouldn't make it to the point where he could be a soldier serving the Dark Lady if he allowed himself to get lured into losing battles by strange enemy girls. It would be tough, wouldn't it, to actually keep himself from being dragged into another of those same situations, especially if the weirdo dragon summoner showed up once more. She seemed rather good at riling him up, it would make things harder, but what were the odds that she would ever show up around here again? If anything her equally strange mother would keep her away from the Oblivionites since most of them wouldn't think twice about cutting down what they would likely see as an abomination.

He didn't worry about her every showing up again from here on out meaning his training should go in a more smoothly, of that he was positive. Giving a smile he said, "I will do better, grandfather, mom, mother, I promise." He told them, looking around the room, then ducked his head, "I will be make you all proud."

His mothers exchanged looks before Mellony finally spoke up and said, "I will let this slide, Merikh, no matter how much I dislike you hanging around with such a girl. From here on out though you are going to have to indeed prove to us that you mean what you said about doing better. Not to mention we are going to turn this in our favor." She said, pushing to her feet before she said, "Alright, grab the Diabi orb and one of the Ysali ones, Merikh, we are going to see Lord Draco."

Orbs for Lord Draco and Dark Lady Soudana

Merikh was all but trembling with excitement over the fact that he was going to meet with Lord Draco, something that everyone his age dreamed of doing. Sure, it wasn't as though he was going to catch the man's eye straight away but surely bringing him a Diabi Orb as an apprentice would at least get the man to at least give him a second look, right? He was aiming for nothing but the top, planning to be a general as great as his grandfather Gethin was, and nothing was going to stop him from that. He didn't care who he had to face, who he had to fight, what he had to do, or who he had to kill he was going to become someone great so that day when he disappeared from the world there would still be memory of him. He would make sure that he was remembered even if all that was left behind were his slowly decaying bones.

Turning to look at his mother he gave her a smile, "So... after this, what is the plan? I am not grounded to my room for all of eternity am I? Are we going to be able to go back to training?" He asked in a hopeful tone of voice. The fact that he'd wandered off with some mixed blooded weirdo and got into a tussle with a Diabi wouldn't cause the entire world to cease turning, would it? There was still so much that he wanted to do and to be able to do so he would need to be allowed to leave his room. How could he train to become the most powerful Oblivionite since Draco took power if he were forced to sit about all day? His skills were sure to rust!

The woman seemed to think about it, her wings giving a flutter, before she finally said, "Once we are through here I believe that it will be time for you to get yourself a weapon. After that we will be packing our things and heading for Ayr. The dragons around these parts are either too weak or too strong for someone your age. As such I believe the best thing for us to do is face off with the Ayrala dragons that live on the windy continent." She told him, then turned to giving him a hard look, "Which isn't to say that you are completely out of the woods yet, young man. While we aren't punishing you for going against our instructions I am still not pleased. One has to remember to obey orders after all. What would happen after all if you were in the midst of a battle against those Orderite scum and your men disobeyed? People could die just as you could have died. As such you must see to it that you listen as well as you want your future men to listen, understand?"

Merikh gave a nod of his head, "I understand, mother." He hadn't thought about it in that way but now that he did he could understand why his wander off to play with some mixed breed would cause such a stir. He couldn't allow himself to get dragged along again on such a misadventure, not by the whim of some girl, especially one as weird as the one that he had met with. No, he had to think of the bigger picture, a picture that included him standing with his own army one day. He couldn't let that dream be sullied by the dirty hands of some mixed breed outcast. He had to put that incident behind him save for the good part, the part in which he gained a Diabi Orb to present to Lord Draco and through him to the Dark Lady Soudana. He owed them both much and he wanted to repay it in any way that he could during his lifetime. The moment he died there would no longer be any time left, unlike the other races that could go to their God or Goddess after death his kind vanished. They had to do all they could while still alive since they were unable to kiss celestial a** in the afterlife.

"Here we are." Mellony said, looking up at the grand building that was both a house of worship to their Goddess as well as where Lord Draco lived, "After dropping off the orbs with Lord Draco be sure to offer up a pray to the Dark Lady, you can never forget to do so, she is one meant to be worshiped with all of your being after all." She reminded her son, leaning over to give him a kiss on the top of the head before ushering him forward.

Once he was inside of the Obsidian Sanctuary Merikh couldn't help but to shiver in delight. The air in this place was just wonderful! It seemed filled to the brim with powerful darkness, something that made him shiver in delight. How he loved this place already he thought to himself as he moved forward, seeking out Lord Draco. He was a man that he'd heard stories about since he was little. Everything about him, his power, his ability in battle, his dark nature, and that weapon of his. His grandfather told him stories about how he saw Lord Draco cleave through a dozen Orderite in one swing and even if it were a slight exaggeration that still meant that in truth he'd still had to of cut down a good number of them. The mere fact that he got to speak with him, hand a pair of orbs over to him, it was too exciting!

The moment that he approached the powerful man, when he stood before him within his sight, he couldn't help but to shiver a bit. He knew the sensation, it was same as when he stood before that Diabi. Draco, like that dragon, could end his existence with but the flick of his wrist... and that some how made this visit all that much more exciting! Lifting the two orbs up that he carried he said, "I've brought you an offering of some of the orbs that I have collected, Lord Draco." Merikh was quick to bow to the man, ever respectful, as the orbs were taken from him. He lifted his head once he felt enough time had passed, watching the man for a moment before he said, "I thank you for accepting them and I promise I will bring back more of them as soon as I can! I am young yet but if you ever need me I am training to serve you and our Dark Lady with all my might!"

He bowed again and once dismissed hurried off to do as his mother had reminded him to do, moving to the alter of the Dark Lady Soudana so that he could offer up a prayer to her as well, "I will fight hard for you, for our people, I will do everything I can in the time that I have." He murmured to her, hoping against hope that she might hear his words. After a bit more in the way of prayer he turned on his heel and hurried out of the door. If he was going to fulfill the vows he'd made to Lord Draco and the Dark Lady Soudana he would need to get back training! He wouldn't get anywhere if he just stood around praying after all, he needed to take action as well!

Getting Ready to Go!

Upon arriving home from the Obsidian Sanctuary there were two people waiting for them, those two being Nereza and Gethin, both seeming to be quite curious as to what it was that had happened while Merikh was in the Sanctuary. Upon seeing them Merikh rushed forward and into Nereza's arms, hugging her tightly, then drew back, "I gave them to Lord Draco himself! Mom it was so amazing! I can't believe that actually saw him, spoke to him, my heart is still racing!" He said in an excited manner. He drew back, looking over at his grandfather, smiling up at him, "After I gave the two orbs over to him I made him a vow to get stronger then made another vow to Lady Soudana herself at the alter in the Sanctuary. Oh, I hope she heard me!"

Gethin gave a little chuckle, "If she hasn't yet then I am sure she will hear you soon enough, you just have to work harder, assert yourself, and become someone that she will smile upon." He told him, patting him on the head. There was much one had to do to get the gaze of their Goddess upon them, but if anyone could do it he almost felt that his grandson could do it. Given what he'd lived through already, not just the run in with the Diabi but more then that, he felt that Merikh must already have the Goddess's blessing. Not as though he'd say as much, not wanting him to get a bigger head then he already had. He had to get much stronger after all before he was worthy of such a blessing or so Gethin felt at least.

"Come now, Merikh, I think that it's about time that we get ready for our next trip." Mellony said to her son, patting him gently on the head, "How about you go to your room, get to packing, and I will talk with these two about what we are planning next."

"Alright! I will get ready as quick as I can!" He said in an excited manner, giving his mom another tight hug, before he rushed off for his room. There was so much to be done so that he could get ready to go to Ayr. He wasn't even sure where to start, clothing, probably? Yes! After the battle he'd had with those Ysali, a battle that ended with him have torn up, blood stained clothing, was a good indication that he should bring a lot of extra clothing with him. It was pretty lightly that he was going to lose more clothing during the battles to come, something that was a bit grating. He didn't much care for the idea that he could lose more of his clothing but it was something that he would willingly sacrifice for the power dragon slaying provided.

Heading to his closet he set about finding what clothing he had that felt as though they were made the toughest materials. Those were the clothes that were tossed onto his bed, along with a couple pairs of boots, socks, underwear, and various other things that he might need. A coat and a hat were added soon after since he wasn't quite sure what Ayr's weather was like. Cool weather clothing might very well be useful he thought to himself. After going through everything he'd dragged out of his closest, rooting out a few things that he might not need, he then set to work packing them into a couple packs. Along with the various clothing items he stuffed an extra, empty pack in with the clothing, certain that he would need it to put dragon orbs in.

"This is so exciting." He murmured, taking a step back once he was all packed, pleased with himself and his pack job. He had everything that he needed, clothing wise at least, for this trip. The question was should he help with packing food stuffs? Well, given that he wasn't sure how long they were going to be roaming the continent of Ayr he supposed that it might be best if he left that job to his mother. If anyone would know what supplies were in order for a trip it would be her, she was a grand warrior after all. Alright, so then he didn't have to worry about the food or water, what then should he worry about next? Oh! A weapon! Hadn't his mother mentioned something about him getting a weapon before they went to Ayr? That was most certainly the next step then he thought to himself. After one last look around the room, making sure that there was nothing he was forgetting, he left his room, seeking out his mothers.

They would know better then anyone else, save maybe his grandfather, what he had to do to get a weapon so best that he spoke with them, the sooner the better! Once he had a weapon in his hands he would be more then ready to set out for Ayr so that he could start hunting the dragons that lived there! Just the mere thought of getting back out there fighting dragons, especially ones that weren't Diabi, had him once more trembling with excitement!

A Weapon At Long Last!

There really wasn't any real issues when it came to Merikh choosing the weapon that was meant for him even if it was a ceremony that was normal for one his age. There were four weapons that were laid out before him, each of them described to him in detail so that he would know what they were for, but he only had eyes for one of them. How long had it been since he first laid eyes upon his Mother's sword? A massive blade that, at the time, was so much bigger then he was. It was completely amazing, something he wanted for himself, and to this day wanted... though in a different incarnation. Now that he was older he better understood the weapons that his people got, the way that they were bonded to one person and one person alone, how they grew in power with that person. He could never have his mother's sword but he could have one of his own!

Once he told told that he could chose his weapon he moved forward to do so, not even giving the other weapons so much as a glance as he reached down to take him his weapon by the hilt, holding it up before him, "You are mine." He told the sword, grinning as he gave it a couple test swings, "Hm, you're heavier then the practice swords, aren't you?" Heavier but he didn't care in the least bit. He was going to get bigger and stronger as he grew after all and he would be able to compensate for this new, greater weight. He would be able to wield this sword in a manner that made it seem as though it weighed nothing, just as his Mother did, just as Lord Draco did. He'd be just as powerful one day!

He turned to look over at his three family members who were standing by watching and he gave them a grin, "I found it! This is my weapon! I think that we should head to Ayr so I can test this bad boy out against some of the dragons there!" He was more then eager to go and that eagerness caused Nereza to chuckle a little bit.

"Of course my little one. Since your bags are all packed and tossed by the front door I take that as you are completely ready now that you have your weapon?" She asked of him, laughing again when he started to nod in a rapid fashion. It seemed as though he didn't want to wait any longer. Instead he was quickly sheathing his sword, and with help from his grandfather doing up the straps so that he could carry it on his back.

"I'm ready, are you guys ready? Can we leave today?" He asked in a rush, bouncing from foot to foot in a manner that had them laughing again. He was given a pat on the head by his grandfather and then a nudge toward the door which indicated that they were going and he was off like a shot toward the door.

Gethin glanced over at Nereza and Mellony before he said, "I will catch up with the boy before he takes the first ship out of the harbor without us. We will meet you there." He said, snapping his fingers at the first servants that he came across, "Help the ladies with the luggage." He told them before hurrying out the front door, racing after his grandson. He was getting on in his years, sure, but that didn't meant that he couldn't keep up with a mere sprout. A short time later he had done just that, leading Merikh to the right ship, wanting him to get to Ayr, not some distant battlefield because he was too eager to pay the right amount of attention to what was going on right in front of him.

Upon finding the right ship the two of them waited there for Nereza, Mellony, and the servants carrying their bags to catch up as well. Once everyone and everything was on board they were on their way to Ayr and more training, all of which Merikh was more then eager for, wanting to get back to work on training, wanting to become strong just as he'd vowed that he would do before the Dark Lady herself!

Waking at Home

Much to Merikh's eternal disappointment when he woke up again he was no longer on Ayr, no longer at the camp that his family was supposed to be setting up, and no longer poised to be fighting with the Ayrala dragons. Instead he was home again, in his own bed, dressed in his baggy sleep clothes, with his chest wrapped so tightly it was almost hard to breath. He knew why he was here, he'd been injured, but that he didn't mean that he had to like it. He had really been hoping that he would be able to enjoy a bit more in the way of hunting instead of being laid so low by the Ayrala dragons of all things... it really was a bother, but he supposed if anyone asked he could always claim that it had been something bigger and cooler that had injured him. Chicks dug scars or so his grandfather had told him on many occasions in the past, talking about how he'd met his fair share of lovely Oblvionite women on the battlefield. Something that his mother and mom never allowed him to go into too much detail about.

Sitting up with a bit of a groan, one hand going to his bound up chest, he found himself wondering where his orbs had gone. He'd fought hard for those two orbs, surely they hadn't been lost, right? He didn't like the idea of that even in the least bit. Sure, they weren't Diabi Orbs by any stretch of the imagination but they were still his orbs! After a moment of searching around he spotted them, sitting off to the side on his dresser, and relief went through his like a wave. Good, they made it back, that meant that his injuries weren't in vain he thought to himself, still feeling as though the trip to Ayr had been. After this his family was more then certain to never let him out of their collective sights again. First him getting baited that that mixed blood girl, then the run in with the Diabi, now these injuries... he'd be lucky if he ever saw the outside of his home again! Ugh... he was going to have to resort to sneaking out of things didn't start to look up for him he thought to himself crossly. It wasn't a thought that sat well with him since only thieves and vagrant crept about in the shadows...

Well, that and assassins he supposed, knowing full well that those were something that many of the Oblivionite families employed. While he would never be one of them personally he felt the idea of having one or more of them at his beck and call would be nice. Letting his eyes sink shut once more he found himself thinking on that, finding the idea of having a few such people serving him. It was a nice dream, one that would make the army he meant to lead one day be that much stronger through them. He was half drifting off once more when he heard the door to his room creaking open, a sound that dragged him out of his half sleeping state and had him sitting up once, turning toward the door, about ready to order the servant he was certain was there to be gone...

Instead of one of the servants though he saw his mom, dressed in a manner that was far simpler then normal, as though she hadn't been bothering to doll herself up in the manner she normally did. His gave a gasp as she dropped the pitcher she had been carrying, the sound rather loud, before she was rushing across the room and pulled him into a tight hug, "Merikh! Oh, my sweet little baby! Oh, you're awake! I'm so glad!"

Merikh said nothing at first, letting her first hug on him before she set to work looking him over all over, "I'm fine." He told her, then reached out toward her, asking, "What happened? You aren't wearing your pretty clothes, mom." It pretty strange to see her in such a minimalistic outfit, it was even less so then what he wore most days since he had the same love of nice things as her.

The woman gave a soft chuckle, reaching out to pat his cheek, "Oh my silly little love, I have been far to busy fretting over my little baby so I haven't had time to look my best. So long as your mother isn't too disappointed with me." She explained to him, certain that Mellony was far too worried for their son's health to really worry about the fact that Nereza hadn't bothered to dress up as intricately as possible for her. Drawing back a little bit the woman allowed a hand to hover over where the heavy bandages lay, sighing softly before she said, "Merikh... there are going to be scars, the dragon's claws bit in deep." She felt that he would want to know that they weren't able to heal everything even though they had done all they could, as quickly as they could.

"Scars, huh?" He asked, looking down at the bandages a moment before he gave a half shrug, "That's fine, just like Grandpa says, chicks dig scars." He reminded her, giving a little laugh before he he laid back on the bed, "I think I will need to wait to go showing off my new scars to all the girls though, I'm kinda tired still."

The woman gave a smile, stroking her hand against his hair, "It's understandable, recovery can be quite tiring. How about you try to get a bit more sleep and if you are feeling better then you can join us for dinner." She suggested to him, knowing that he was probably in need of more sleep given that his recovery would take time. Pushing to her feet she said, "I will let your mother and grandfather know that you woke up, I am sure that they will be glad to hear that you were up and about." Nereza leaned in to give him a kiss on the top of the head before she pushed up to her feet, "I will be back to check on you later."

Merikh nodded as he laid back on the bed, letting his mom tuck him in once more, and it didn't take long before he was sleeping deeply once more. In his dreams he was bigger, battling the Orderites in the depths of Eowyn, a pair of assassins at his sides, and an army behind him. Overall it was a great dream.
