Aidan was really starting to dislike Mihiil's sister. She was a bit nosy and demanding, wasn't she? Then again, upon learning her subtype, maybe she couldn't help it.
"Ah, well I'm a Supernatural type," he replied with a little nod, "I'm a wraith. They do research on things like us, Toby and Da. Apparently I'm a bit different than some others of my, um... sub-species." His chest puffed out a little, as if one's nature was something to be proud of.
Toby was unaware of the misunderstanding. He and Dari weren't business partners. They didn't own a business, didn't a run a business... they were simply two high-ranking agents who worked in tandem. They certainly were not romantic either. They were more than just a professional pair, but that was a personal story. Friends didn't come much closer.
At the mention of Earth, though, his eyes grew wide. Really?! He was from--! Oh.
"Interesting! I'm from Earth myself, but... a different one, apparently. I keep forgetting that there are dozens out there. We're all humans or... no. No, we're mostly humans. Other things exist, and they're where my partner and my business lie. I have to admit, all of the dragons I've known, of all the types I've known, not were remotely as, uh. Eloquent."
He decided not to mention the one that lived in one of the sub-basements of the building. People didn't generally react well to knowing one of their kind was cooped up, although he personally believed that their setup was much better than a crumbling cave near enough a military base.
"Honestly, we never would have known this pace existed at all, were it not for the invitation they sent Dari."

TalaasTalaas bit her lip, trying to hold back the 'switching feeling'. To the fountain, to the fountain, to the fountain. Nothing else mattered - she had to get to the fountain. There was no reason for it other than to have a goal and complete the goal. They were so close - she could smell the spray of water. She wanted to run up to it and touch it and get it over with. She broke into a run ahead. She had to get there, she had to, she HAD to... MihiilMihiil watched his sister take off, mildly amused, before turning back to Aidan. "Sorry. She does that." he said, smiling. "I've never met a Wraith!" or anything really ghosty or supernatural. "What do you mean, though? Your guardians research manifests?" he had forgotten the distinction already, "Thats pretty neat! So..." he asked curiously, "How are you different?"Poecileth Poe sensed some of Talaas's discomfort. The poor dear, so slave to her nature. She sent out a wave of calm emotion, hoping to help her child at least a little. She raised her head from the conversation apologetically to keep an eye on the girl as she ran off. she asked, still paying attention to him. That was the benefit of being telepathic, though eye contact was important to her.

Aidan watched Talaas run off for a moment, and then turned back to her brother. Mihiil was much more his speed.
"Me neither, to be honest. My Da and Toby, they investigate, uh... supernatural things. Back where they come from, they try to keep it from the general population." He nodded and picked up the ball dangling from the end of his chain to walk at a brisker pace.
"Different? I, uh. I don't know. We haven't really talked about that bit."
Toby was half-listening to the children, but decided to not interject lest someone get upset. Instead, he was focused on Poe.
"Generally the guardian-treasure razing-villages sort, unfortunately. Some can speak, some can't. I have to say, this place kind of blows my mind. I mean, we work with supernaturall things, supernatural for Earth, but we came here and it seems that's all there is. So the boss put us on this assignment." There'd even be a file on her in the next few days...

Poecileth murmured Poecileth, rumbling thoughtfully. thankfully. She did not want Malta exposed to the power and dynamic cruelty of those dragons. she huffed softly, TalaasTalaas had to get to the fountain. She had to get to the fountain. Did she really need to get to the fountain? YES. NOW. Before... Before she started to care. She ran a little faster, arm outstretched, and finally, with a renewed burst of speed, touched the water. As she felt the cold wetness of water splash her hand, she relaxed. She had done it. She had achieved a goal. With a sigh, she released her hold on herself and let herself drift into mental limbo. She looked back at her family, walking so slowly (SO SLOWLY) behind, and her eyes fell on the newcomer as he picked up his chain. Click. She grinned with the usual energetic euphoria that came with a new goal. She cared. She cared about this whatever-his-name-was, who she had spent the past few minutes not giving a rats tail about. She wanted to learn all about him and, maybe, help him with that heavy ball... Mihiil"What is the general population, and why would they keep it from them?" wondered Mihiil out loud. "Anyway, do you need help with that, Aidan?" he didn't actually want to do manual labor but he felt kind of bad, and he was trying to work on 'taking initiative' and 'doing things on his own.'

Toby blinked at the dragon. Wasn't that what he had just said? She had a way with words, he'd give her that, but didn't fantastical creatures generally show themselves to be especially wordy and eloquent? All he could do in the end was nod his agreement.
"Right."
Aidan meanwhile turned to Mihiil and shrugged.
"It's just the word they use for normal humans."
Toby caught the little knock to humanity and arched a brow. Well, it was a little more complicated than all that, but he'd learn some day. Best to just let the kid think he was normal while he could. His first trip to Earth would probably be a terrible disappointment.
"I'm fine," Aidan said then and offered the boy a smile. He was used to having to lug the thing around. It didn't hurt at all; in fact, Aidan wasn't sure what pain actually was, but it certainly did slow him down a bit. He raised his eyes to see Talaas suddenly paying attention to him. Hm. How odd. He offered an unsure smile.

Poecileth asked Poecileth, making note of her charge's change of heart. What now? Not that Talaas hadn't been easier to deal with these days, but Poecileth still worried when the girl decided to focus on a new thing. Mihiil"Oh. So, Ma would be part of the 'General public' then." he said, understanding. Malta was pretty ordinary, especially compared to some of the people here. No special powers, nothing. She was just a doctor, which was kind of cool, he supposed. "Oh okay." if the boy didnt want help, then everything was fine. Talaas"Do you need help with that?" Talaas asked, catching up... well, back up... to them, breathless from her run. It was holding him back so much, poor guy! Mihiil"Taal, he's fine." said Mihiil, smiling at his sister, "I already offered." He was happy she was being a bit nicer now. That was always a good thing with Talaas. Talaas"Are you sure?" she asked solicitously, "Because I could help. I'm pretty strong." she beamed at Aidan, "Sorry, what was your name again?"

"Well, uh... I don't think your mom... I mean..."
A dragon wasn't exactly a human, as far as he could tell. Then again, maybe the other Manifests had two moms. That was always possible, wasn't it? Families came in all types here. He wasn't too concerned with considering it, though. The girl had gone... odd all of a sudden.
"No, no, really, I'm fine," Aidan nodded and looked down at his ball and chain. He had never really considered it an unnecessary burden. It was just a part of him., and one that wouldn't come off with the sparking thing Toby had tried to use on them. "I'm Aidan. You're, uh...?"
Really, he hadn't been paying her much attention. It might have been rude to forget her name, but she surely didn't remember his.
Toby turned back to the dragon and shrugged.
"A few months. I don't remember the case date offhand. Not my worry. It's a bit like the HQ, you know... just all the time, everywhere. I think Dari likes it. He's not so bizarre here. Doesn't have to cover up like at home."

Talaas”Talaas.” the girl said, ”My name is Talaas.” she grinned, eyes bright now with renewed purpose. All right, so he wouldn't let her help with his ball and chain. That just meant she would have to help him in other ways! This boy. What was his name... Aidan. ”What do you like to eat, Aidan?” she asked. Did he eat? No matter, it was a relevant question to her purposes! MihiilEat? Mihiil was all for eating, but he wasn't hungry, and he was reasonably sure his sister wasn't either. But he never questioned her motives, not when she was like this... ”Well, maybe she's not. I don't know. I've never been out of here.” he said, shrugging. Poecileth she said, with some amusement, There were many secret organizations represented in the Dreamery Complex, and those that loosened their restrictions tended to prosper. In a land where the unreal was real, where ANYTHING was real, why hold tight to secrets unnecessarily? She was sure that, whatever his organization was, there would be many representatives of that same sort of thing – possibly alternate versions of the same thing – in the city itself. Some of which she might even know.

"Talaas," Aidan repeated with a nod. "Well, its nice to-- whuh?" Oh, there she went again. This girl really was just a bundle of energy.
"Oh, I don't know. Lots of things."
Toby meanwhile addressed his scaly companion.
"We deal with the supernatural back on Earth, which people rpefer to believe is all humans and devoid of things that would like to eat your face off, aside from particularly odd humans, I guess. I was human in the past, as a matter of fact. We reign it all in and keep it at headquarters, and some of it, uh... becomes new agents. Like Dari. Mostly they're just subjects of study, though. No offense." He shrugged. "Technically we're associated with several governments, but if anyone asks, we don't exist."
The last offer sort of knocked him off-kilter. Right. These kids were the dragon's kids. "Oh, uh... he's not my charge. The kid's guardian is my-- uh. Well." He'd already mentioned him, hadn't he? "I'll talk to him. Do you live in the apartments?" Dragons didn't really have pockets and he hadn't met a single soul with a cell phone here yet, not that they'd be compatible with his particularly earthly plan.

Talaas”Oh, really?” she stared at him, intently – always intently. ”Like what? What is your favorite food, Aidan?” she asked him. Mihiil”Maybe he doesn't have one.” commented Mihiil, ”I don't have a favorite food.” Well, he might, but he wasn't that picky about what he ate. ”Not everybody does.”Talaas”Yes you do! Your favorite food is nachos.” retorted Talaas, rolling her bright eyes at her brother. ”So? Aiden? Any favorites?”Poecileth In the past? Was he not human now? Poecileth had learned during her stay in the dreamery that 'human', as a term, covered a wide range of beings in the city, almost as wide a range as 'dragon' did in her own world. On what part of the spectrum of humanity, she wondered, did her new acquaintance fall? Where did earths humans fall on it in general. she soothed, she concentrated for a moment, sending a picture of the place telepathically to him with some effort. A picture said a thousand words, and she could feel every one of them, but it was easier than explaining or describing. a simple phonebook, magic directory, or address disk, or any similar device in the city would have it. It was, after all, the place the city went to resolve disputes and legalities major and minor. she gave him the address. She turned to the children. she said to them merrily, her luminous eyes glittering as she reminded the twins that their walk had had – somewhat – of a purpose...

"Uh." Aidan just blinked, looking between the twins as if searching for some sort of context. He'd barely been alive very long, how was he supposed to have a favorite food? He blinked and smiled, not wanting to be rude.
"My Da can eat anything, though. Anything. He," he gestured to Toby," swears that he saw him eat through a table once! I wasn't there, though. I'm not sure how he managed that one, though!"
The boy had no idea that his guardian had once been less human-shaped and more like the namesake from 'The Blob.'
Toby, however, stopped mid-stride when the woman... dragon? When the lady-dragon projected into his mind. It was something he'd only experiences a few times before and it hit him hard every time.
"Holy s**t," he mused, then continued walking, unapologetic.
"Well we'll keep in touch then. I'll have Dari send you a message or something, alright?"
