Naturally he would get off to a bad start right off the bat. He inwardly blamed Shiloh for waving at him. Shiloh was bad luck. He determined this to be true because it felt right in his heart.

Insulted by this breach of etiquette, Mimsy gave the creature a stern stare. Sea monster etiquette was much different than human etiquette, so it tried to gnaw on her again.

Milo did sort of have a thing against those mermaids; they had done a number on him the last time he was down under the water, not letting him go until he was barely able to make it out. So, he was happy to come along, grabbing a tank and wasting no time to trek down the beach and jump into the water.
He apparently had an easier time getting down than some other people. Those he passed got uh, a little wave?
