No matter what he did, no matter how hard he tried to distract himself, Ikait couldn’t stop wondering. It wasn’t that he hated the constant flood of questions that entered his mind. It was a gift from his goddess, and it suited him well. That he at least knew. The constant curiosity suited him and made everything around him infinitely more interesting. There were always more questions to ask, inquiries to make, possibilities to conjure up, hypotheses to theorize. There were so many things he wanted to discuss and imagine, but he wasn’t sure if he could find someone who would be willing to listen to his jabber and ranting. So instead he kept it locked inside his head, but he didn’t mind it in the least.
Everything he had seen and learned were clearly imprinted in his mind. He hungered for knowledge, maybe even needed it. He needed to know things. It was why he had taken his time strolling through the Ruins when he had first arrived. His first thought was to look up at the glowing red lights and wonder about the meaning of their existence. Why were they there? How had they gotten there? Would they serve a purpose in the future? Questions came to him easily, without much thought. Questioning was as easy as breathing air, but he had a feeling he didn’t really need it.
The things he had gathered from the floating fragments only confused him and made him wonder even more. Were those sounds from past memories? If so, were these memories his or someone else’s? How had the fragments come into existence? Why did they hold these peculiar sounds? Questions. Questions. Questions.
But what he did know was that he would like to possess a book someday. He could still hear the sound of pages slowly ruffling as someone searched through a book for a particular page. Or maybe they were merely skimming through the contents to see if they were interested. Ikait didn’t need to pick up a book to know he would love to sit down and read. The silence would be calming. He would learn things he had never known. He could inquire on his own and in peace.
But there was something else tugging at him in the back of his mind. He felt like he had given something up. Given it up just as quickly as he had gained it, but answers failed to come to mind.
So he kept wondering.
