"Think nothing of it, Rhodesia." She had a rather exotic name, or at least Margerie thought it sounded exotic. Though, most names sounded that way to the qui'lin who had even known her home and this grove. "We were both a little caught up in other things. To be honest I probably would have entirely forgotten that we had missed the introductions had you not brought it up." She offered Rhodesia a warm smile before settling herself inside a large circle of alternating black and white river stones. This was where she had taken to standing when she had clients. It made her seem more mystical.
"Now, shall I tell you what to expect in your future?" She was pretty sure it would be easy to do. The mare was curious, she had said so herself. It wouldn't be hard to say something the mare liked.

The Alicorn shifted so she could stand before Margerie, ruby eyes sweeping along the stone pattern that curled around her, with awe clear in her expression. "I would love to hear what you would have to say on the matter," she agreed, finally turning her attention back to the Qui'lin.

Margerie nodded then closed her eyes gently. "Please do not cross the stone line or I fear what may happen." Margerie took in a deep breath to ready herself for the first part of the stage show, her wisps. She had once thought that she had no way to control them but this was not entirely true. She could not make them grow, shrink, or flicker more just by willing them to but they seemed to respond to her physical and mental state. By controlling what she was experiencing Margerie could get the wisps to do as she liked, more or less.
The first step was to hold her breath. She made certain that her chest still moved slightly like she was still breathing and kept her face relaxed but her body knew the difference. The wisps around her legs began to flicker faster, erratically, while growing smaller and smaller. Once she felt that she was about to lose it she took in a sharp breath, opened her eyes suddenly, and thought of the most exciting thing that had ever happened to her. This caused the wisps to suddenly grow in size while still breaking apart at random. Then she willed herself to calm down and the wisps responded in suit. The entire process took only a few moments but it did lend to her credibility as a creature in the service of spirits quite beautifully.
"I have seen...a path. The path of your life. A beautiful winding thing and along it many branches. Choices that you must make, some dark and some more fantastic than I could ever hope to describe. Do not fear the dark for it will fade quickly around the presence of the light you carry." Margerie made certain to keep her eyes unfocused and wide as she spoke clearly but distantly. It was difficult, she wanted very much to blink and she could feel her eyes starting to itch from drying. She needed to wrap it up.
"On your life journey I see many strange beings and places awaiting you should you choose right. Follow your heart, though, it will show you to the greatest adventures." Margerie couldn't hold it anymore. She blinked and shook her head like she was trying to shoo a pest before stumbling out of the circle breathing heavily. 80% show, 15% guessing and 5% vagueness. That was what her fortune telling was and people ate it up.

The larger mare had watched with fascination as Margerie prepared herself for her show, but it was clear that Rhodesia had not been expecting such a mystical-seeming display with the way her cream-colored ears snapped forward the moment the wisps began to shift. Her red eyes widened, jaw slack slightly in a mixture of amazement and uncertainty, and her tail ceased its gentle swishing to freeze, perhaps tensely so, in place behind her.
The Alicorn listened closely to the Qui'lin's lofty words, attention fixated entirely upon her without any hint of suspicion. It seemed she, too, had fallen victim to the smaller mare's trickery and when her performance concluded, Rhodesia was silent still for just a moment, slender form poised and taut, before she broke from her own trance and lightly stomped her front hooves, up and down in alternating and rapid succession, as though she were anxious.
"Wondrous!" Rhodesia announced, her awe-struck expression shifting to one of delight. "Do you know how your powers work? Were you born with them or did the Maker gift them to you? Is it the future you see? Visions? Are they nebulous? Or can they be more precise? Is it something you must practice, or is this ability always with you? What about the stones here?"
The mare's excitement was betrayed by her multitude of questions and the light in her crimson eyes.

Margerie suddenly felt a little overwhelmed. It was clear enough that she'd managed to pass her smoke and mirror tactics off as the real thing but never before had she witnessed such a flood of questions. It wasn't as though she never got questions but usually it was only one or two. She hadn't quite prepared herself for a long question and answer session.
"Please, one question at a time." Margerie said with a weak smile as she tried to make sense of everything that had just been asked. "I am not sure how they work only that if I close my eyes and focus I am sometimes granted visions. They are usually a little unclear but I do what I can to make sense of them. They can be of anything and not always the future. It is hard to tell what time I am being shown, you understand?" Margerie took a breath and looked at the stones. She had never come up with a reason for them. She told people not to cross them because she didn't want anyone attacking her while she was focused on performing. No better time to figure things out than the present.
"They help me channel the spirits more clearly and maintain the connection longer. I have often wondered if a bigger circle would be beneficial to my work." It wasn't a lie. She really did think a larger circle would help her focus a bit easier. It might even open the doors for more flashy tricks if she didn't have to spend so much time working on looking like she was still acting normally.

Sheepishly, the mare dipped her head once more, this time to offer an apology for her clear over-eagerness. "Sometimes I can get carried away with my curiosity," she confessed with a small and uncertain smile. "How about one question at a time? I mean, if you are willing. I understand if there are questions that you do not wish to answer, or just can't."
But Rhodesia kept her head down, lowering it further so that she might investigate the circle of river stones that encompassed the Qui'lin more closely. "These..." She didn't dare touch them, however, restricting herself to simply hovering, her muzzle just inches away as she tilted her head from side to side. "Are they ordinary stones? Or are they from some place special? Did the Maker lead you to them? Or do they have special properties?"
As she turned her head this way and that to further scrutinize the stones, as if the answers she sought were etched into their surfaces, the motion dislodged her loosely tied-back mane from its precarious perch on her shoulder, causing the bundle of dusty green hair to fall forward and collide with the line of stones she had been inspecting. It had amounted to nothing greater than a gentle bump that displaced the stones slightly and put a kink into the otherwise perfect line, but it caused the Alicorn to snap back upright, ruby eyes wide as she folded her wings tightly to her back.
"Oh no! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to--!!"

"They are stones worn smooth by time passed beneath the rushing water of the stream where we met. The white and black represents the opposing energies of the world, together they bring balance. The stones are nothing special but the meaning they are given gives them power." As she spoke Margerie watched Rhodesia examine her stone circle. And then she watched as the mare disturbed the stones and pulled away completely horrified. Margerie had to force the laughter back down her throat with a gulping motion.
"Please don't worry. The stones can be fixed easily enough, you haven't harmed anything. I am not in contact with the spirits so right now the circle of stones is only a circle of stones. Pretty to look at and nothing more." She smiled and stepped into the circle to stand across from the alicorn. Gently she nudged the rocks back into their places and in no time it was like nothing had happened at all. "See, no harm done."

Petrified still, Rhodesia watched the Qui'lin intently as she chuckled and fixed the circle of stones with no ill after effects. For a moment, the Alicorn remained in place, perhaps as though not quite believing Margerie's reassurances, but quickly enough she seemed to relax again, carefully dipping her head down once more to resume observing the stones. "So they... Are more like... Instruments?" She asked, the pauses in her speech betraying the way she was slowly considering her words. "They are null until you activate them? Do you give them that power? Or the spirits?"

Margerie considered Rhodesia's words for a moment before giving her head a nod. "That's exactly what they are. Instruments." Answering that much had been easy. Trying to keep herself from laughing as the mare suggested that she gave the stones power had been a complete failure. Thankfully she was able to wrangle her laughter into a polite sound rather than the rude bark that had been threatening to pass through her mouth. "No, I most certainly do not have that sort of power. It's all the work of the spirits. You can think of me like my stones, a tool and nothing more. The only difference is I have a choice on when the spirits make use of me."
((Now's as good of a time as any to tell you that I don't get quote notifications. A lot of people quote me and it gets irritating. Don't worry, I'm in the RP subforum for work all of the time so if there's a tag I should see it.))
