The Last Pea

Victoria swirled the wine in her glass. There was nothing like suddenly becoming a mother to make one settle down. She was not complaining at all. Matter of fact she was rather happy, she had always wanted to have a family. However, physically it was not possible. Then by some odd chance… She inwardly smiled.

Victoria roused from her thoughts by the sounds of glassware scraping across the table glanced from Auden to Alison. Her eyes went large as she heard them both snort. Okay one might think that strange but all things considering she could not.

"The last of the peas are MINE," Alison narrowed her eyes.

"No they are MINE!" Auden's voice was a smidge louder than his sisters was. He reached out and snatched the bowl back from her. "Mine!"

"You know I could cook more." Victoria's voice sounded like a whisper compared to theirs. She watched as the peas sloshed back and forth in the bowl. She was waiting for them to any moment to cover one or both of them, at which point she would laugh at them, throw a towel at them, and tell them to clean it up.

"MINE!" Alison snatched the bowl back.

"I said they were MINE!"

Victoria knowing she had not been heard sat the wine glass down and went to get a towel. She decided she was going to prepare herself ahead of time. She turned back around just in time to watch as the peas sloshed all over Alison.

"My favorite shirt!" Alison screeched.

Victoria chuckled and threw the towel at her. "I can buy you another one. Seriously if you had just listened to me this could have been avoided." She put her hands on her hips when they gave her a look. "Don't give me that look- I offered to cook more."

They both rolled their eyes.

Victoria narrowed her eyes when they were about to say something. "Clean it up." She grabbed her glass and headed out of the kitchen.

Auden picked up one of the peas off the table and ate it.

"That's gross."

Auden smirked.

Victoria
Education, swimming, transformation and walking- I have just about got it all figured out.

I can home school Auden and Alison. I have the means to provide a well-rounded curriculum. The only things I am not great at are math and sports, so I will hire a tutor to help in those departments.

My family is teaming up to teach them the basics. My mother, dad, and my dad's brother are going to help them learn how to transform their tails into legs. Being dragons that shift into humans, they are pros at that sort of thing. In addition, my dad's brother who is water based is going to teach them how to swim.

I want to teach them both how to cook. They may be new to this world but they came into it with the bodies of teenagers… The last thing I want is for them to set fire to the kitchen or cause harm to themselves. I thought about leaving out snacks but that is not healthy at all. I could leave apples, Auden loves those, but you can only eat so many before they are blah.

I just hope that once I teach them to cook and feel confident to leave them home alone that they will not fight over the food. They act as if each meal is their last. It is somewhat funny. I do not interfere in those petty disputes; I just make them clean up the mess.

In the next couple of days, we are going to go shopping for things like paint and personals. I want them both to feel comfortable in their rooms. If they for some crazy reason decide to paint their room neon green, I am not going to object. If that be the case I'm going to do my best to avoid that room and just do the motherly basics like checking up to make sure they aren't into anything too crazy. I would not even object to them drawing on the walls as long as it stays in their rooms. I don't want to have to explain to company why there's doodles on my living room wall that look questionable- no one is a perfect artist at first.

Auden
Shopping trip tomorrow! I don't what we are shopping for as long as we are shopping. We get to decorate our rooms. I don't see the big deal about this- it's furniture. Well maybe it is a big deal. I don't want to end up with pink and frilly. Girly is okay but frilly no. I don't even think Alison likes frilly. Can you see either of us now laying in a frilly covered bed let alone us in a frilly something or other. I don't want to.

While we are out, I want to see about getting a pet. I've been looking through a few books in the house. What I want is this four legged thing called a goat. However, I'm not sure if mom will go for it so I'm going to make sure to be on my best behavior!

Mom told us both that we are going to learn how to transform our tails into legs. This is mainly for me. I don't float so getting from one place to the next is difficult. I'm kind of excited but at the same time kind of nervous.

Speaking of learning we are suppose to also start our homeschooling. Apparently that is where we learn at home instead of going somewhere else. I guess that's pretty cool. Maybe she can teach me about that goat I want.

Alison
Mom just told me the plan for the next couple of days and I am really excited.

The only thing I'm not really excited about is the having legs bit. That kind of scares me. What happens if I cannot walk and I trip over my own two feet, or I get stuck with them. I L-O-V-E my tail. Despite my fears, I am going to do it because I don't want my brother to have to do it alone. My brother cannot float like me so at times it makes it difficult to get from one place to the next.

You know my brother for being so girly can be a piglet at times. He will not even let adorable me have the last bite. Not even if I ask nicely. Because of that, I'm excited about learning how to cook. The way I see it- if I cook it, it is mine and that means I do not have to share. I might share with mom since she cooks for me but my brother…

I think I want to have things in my room be shades of blue. I thought of seashells as decorations but I am not sure yet. I want to find a huge mirror and make that the focus of my room. If I can manage this, I would share it with my brother since he likes to preen as much as me. So maybe the mirror should not be in my room. Perhaps we will put it in the hall or the bathroom. I love him but I do not want him barging into my room all the time.

That is the way life is.
You want something; you have to work hard at it.

"Auden! Alison!" Victoria called out to get her children's attention. "I really do appreciate you helping me with this."

Rhine smiled, "My pleasure. I know how it is-" he was about to say something else but was distracted from doing so as the two called came into the sitting room. "Nice to finally meet the two of you," he held out his hand.

After looking to her mom she looked towards Rhine, she shook his hand, "Nice to meet you too."

Auden a bit more hesitant looked the other male over. Family or not, having never met this person before he was hesitant. Deciding it was best not to be rude he extended his hand.

Rhine could see a lot of himself in Auden and did not take offense to the hesitation. Instead of exchanging pleasantries, they shared a look.

"I hope you don't mind but I brought someone else along to help with this-" Again Rhine was interrupted from finishing.

Vlad did his best to look soft but it was difficult.

Victoria gave her dad the once over and chuckled. "Of course not. Actually, I'm not sure why I didn't think of you first dad." In truth, she was a bit relieved that Vlad had come along. She had wondered how a male would be of help to her daughter transforming. It was not the fact of competency it was the fact of gender.

"If you don't stop with the puffed up act you'll scare her." Rhine chuckled.

Alison, now the timid one, studied Vlad. Why was grandpa going to be the helping her?

Victoria clapped her hands together and smiled, "I'll be in the study if you need me." With that she took her leave.

----

"Come Alison let's go to your room." Vlad said as he extended a hand.

Alison, trusting her mom's decision to leave her with her grandpa, took a steady breath as she took his hand.

Vlad could sense the discomfort coming from Alison the moment she had taken his hand. "What to know a secret," he whispered when they were out of earshot from Auden.

Alison nodded her head. Anything to break the tension.

"I'm a girl."

"But-"

"It's complicated."

----

"That leaves me and you," Rhine said as he motioned for Auden to lead the way to his room.

Auden nodded his head and started towards his room. "Does this hurt?" He had not thought about it until seconds ago.

"I'll admit at first it isn't pleasant but the better you get at it the easier it is. The biggest thing is the headaches. You have to concentrate hard at first. Eventually though it becomes a natural thing."

Auden wandered what he had gotten himself into.

Once they were both in the room, Rhine closed the door. "To explain this better, I'm going to need to undress."

"Why?"

"Because I'm going to do this right alongside of you."

"And, you don't want to rip your clothes?"

"Yes."

Auden shrugged his shoulders, "okay."

"I'm not exactly house size," Rhine admitted as he took off his clothes and tossed them onto the bed. In a matter of seconds after getting undressed he had shifted into a dragon.

Auden with eyes the size of saucers watched as Rhine went from human to dragon in a matter of seconds. It looked so easy! He did his best to contain his amusement.

Rhine did his best to stay put. He could easily replace anything broken but preferred not to. But oh, how he wanted to stretch out. "I really hate this form when not around water."

"Why?"

"Because I get itchy."

"I could deal with that. At least you can get around easier." Auden pointed out.

"True but I have extremely short legs. I'm a swimmer not a runner."

Auden tried not to laugh.

"If I can manage to take all of me and shift into a human I know you can take that small tail of yours and make legs." This was Rhine's version of a pep talk.

Rhine did have a point. "Okay."

"First thing I want you to do is clear your mind and focus on your tail."

"Can you do bit by bit?"

"Kind of. But, it looks really funny." Rhine thought about it for a moment and instead of having a right paw, he had a hand. "It took me a good while to manage a human shape and even when I did manage it I still looked really dragony."

"Still impressive," Auden admitted. "Focusing," he said as he drew in a deep breath. Clearing his mind was not an easy task. He thought about food, his hair, and the upcoming shopping trip.

Rhine shifted ever so slightly and the table near his tail wobbled.

Auden opened his eyes. "This is a lot harder than I thought it would be."

"That is the way life is. You want something; you have to work hard at it."

Auden nodded his head and closed his eyes. Finally, the zillions of thoughts started to fade away.

"Now focus."

Despite Rhine's voice sounding far away, Auden did not try to focus on it to hear it better. It felt calming to be thinking of nothing at all. He wondered if this technique could help in other aspects of his life.

"Think of your tail and what you want to do with it."

Auden thought of his tail. He loved his tail! Then he thought of his mom's legs and feet. He thought of how she used them to walk. He thought about their shape.

"Concentrate."

Auden then imagined himself with legs. He felt a tingling at the tip of his tail.

"Remember you really want this."

Suddenly it felt like his fin was being torn in two. The pain was near mind numbing and caused him to open his eyes. What he saw frightened him. "I have feet!" In addition, that was that. His mind was back to thinking of everything especially the searing pain. Unfortunately, that meant that his fin was back. He frowned.

"You did good for a first try." Rhine smiled. "You've just got to keep at it."

Auden's eyes narrowed. His breathing was labored. He was still really hurting, especially his head.

"Look." Rhine said trying to ease Auden. He did not want to give up so easily. Slowly Rhine transformed himself bit by bit. This took a lot more of his focus because he was use to all or nothing.

Auden watched as the dragon before him slowly became more and more human. He wondered if he would ever get the concept down and all he had to do was his tail and not his entire body.

"There are still some things I cannot get rid of. Like my ear fins and tail but I've come to accept them and I actually love them because it is what makes me, me." Rhine smiled as he sat Indian Style.

Auden stared at his tail. "I love my tail."

"Not saying you don't. I'm sure it will come in handy. Might actually be in your favor when you decide to attract a mate."

Auden gave Rhine a confused look.

Rhine chuckled. "That is a long way away and your mom would probably shoot me if I went into that conversation."

Auden nodded his head, "okay." Given the explanation, he was not going to press further.

"Come on try again." Rhine encouraged.

Victoria
I'm very proud of the both of them.

Auden seems to be having a harder time. I wish there was something else I could do for him to make this easier. At first it was just a shrug of the shoulder when I suggested it. But now he really seems to want to have those legs. I'm sure with that kind of determination he'll have it down pat in no time flat.

Alison who on the other hand seems to have no trouble has no desire to have legs. I tried telling her that there may come a time she needs them but her response to that is "no, I float". I hope that she never finds herself in a pickle because of her stubbornness.

As a reward for their hard work, I told them they could each get a pet. Auden had already been asking. He wants a pet goat. I'm not entirely fond of his choice but since we have the yard I didn't refuse. I'm glad I didn't have any inclination to start gardening. I wonder what they will feed the goat once they realize that it will eat just about anything.

I gave them the entire responsibility speech but I really think it went over their head. Auden is so carefree and Alison is well fickle. I'm sure how else to describe her personality. They are both very sweet and loving children, fiercely loyal to one another.

Auden
I cannot begin to describe the amount of pain I am still in. From my waist, down is numb and my head is pounding. Rhine would not let me give up. He had me try repeatedly until I could do it. I can hold the transformation for about a minute.

I used that brief minute to walk to the kitchen. I was very proud when I made it that far! It was hard. I was extremely wobbly and tripped over myself several times. My accomplishment was short lived when I heard mom shriek and she through a dish towel at me. I don't think Rhine was thinking she'd be in the kitchen when I went that way. She did praise me shortly after calming down.

Mom said I'm going to need pants for when I have legs. I don't understand the need for clothing. Alison is so fussy about what she wears maybe I should get with her so I can better understand the fascination about clothes.

Rhine told me to keep practicing and that I would eventually be able to go for longer periods of time. He also told me that now that I have the concept it is all about staying focused. I don't know how I am going to stay focused. Concentrating THAT hard really makes my head hurt. The slightest thing distracts me and I lose it.

What am I going to do if I am in the middle of somewhere with a whole bunch of people and I lose it? I just hope that if that happens that no one will laugh at me. Mom said I need to stop worrying so much about what people think.

Good news! As a reward for my accomplishment mom said I can get a pet. She was not thrilled that I wanted a goat but agreed. I hope that they have a white goat with cute little horns.

Alison
Vlad was very patient with me. I found it comforting that he talking about himself while we worked through me transforming my tail into legs. I'm not going to write those things down on the just in case that someone reads my diary. Those are his stories to tell. He made it a point that he did not want anyone to feel sorry for him. That life is life and what you are dealt is what makes you stronger. I'm not sure if there was a lesson to it but it makes me smile.

I wonder if perhaps he was talking about me learning to transform my tail into legs. I'm not sure how having legs is going to make me stronger. I'm not sure why but I really don't like having legs at all. I'm all wobbly. Vlad said to keep practicing and before long it will come naturally.

I can only hold the shape for a solid five minutes and it takes a lot of focus. So much focus that my head throbs- it throbs worse than when I'm studying something new. Rhine told me that was really something and when Auden wasn't listening he mentioned that my brother could only do it for about a minute.

Even though I've learned how and despite being told to practice I don't think I'm going to make legs a routine habit. And, after all I did only learn this for my brothers sake- It isn't like I'm ever going to need legs. I float.

Mom did tell me that she was proud of me. She mentioned getting Auden a pet as a reward and that I was going to get one too. She sat us both down and talked about responsibility. My head was swimming already from the whole transforming tail into legs thing... But then she went into food, water, bathing, and so much more. Pets sound like a lot of work. I'm not so sure about this reward. But maybe it will be a good thing. Mom says having responsibility is part of life.

Family Portrait

Prompt: Give Auden a reason to want to or have to wear clothes. Solo Auden.

Prompt Summary: His reason for having to wear clothes is that his mom is having a portrait painted of him and his sister.

Prompt Response: Earlier their mom had told them she had hired an artist. Said artist would be arriving shortly and would be spending this afternoon and maybe several after to paint a portrait of his sister and himself.

Auden stared at the clothes in his closet. He had the average things a person needed- pants, shorts, shirts, etc. He did not understand why people thought they needed these things. His sister said modesty and he had overheard someone in a store mention that it made them look good.

As he continued to stand there naked, he wondered what would make him look good. He knew this was a big decision. He did not want to let him mom down or for his sister to look better than him. He sighed as he reached for what he thought looked good, jeans and a t-shirt. He had never spent this much time picking out something to wear. Normally he just grabbed a pair of pants and went on with his day.

He was about to walk out of his room with said outfit to ask what his sister thought about it but stopped when he realized he was still completely naked. He did not want her to scream like his mom had when he had walked into the kitchen naked. He grabbed a towel and wrapped it around his waist.

About to just waltz into his sisters room when he heard that nagging thing in the back of his head saying do not forget to knock. Life could be complicated. Another thing he did not understand. He personally would not have cared if anyone walked right on in, in his room.

"One second," Alison called out as she rushed to finish lacing her blouse. She glanced at the mirror and realized he was a bit lopsided but decided he could fix that in a moment. After running her fingers through her hair, she opened her door. "Auden-"

"Did I do something wrong?"

Alison shook her head and tried not to roll her eyes. "I suppose not. At least you put something on," she said as she glanced at the towel he was wearing.

Auden blinked a couple of times and followed her eyes. "I wasn't going to wear this. I wanted to know about this," he held up the clothes he had pulled from the closet. "Does it make me look good?"

Relieved Alison mentally sighed. She took the clothes from her brother and held them up. She frowned. "They are nice but they aren't dress clothes."

"Dress clothes?"

"You know-" She grabbed a couple of magazines off her dresser. "Here," she handed them along with the clothes back to her brother.

As he took the things from his sister, he glanced at her outfit. She was wearing a blue blouse and black skirt. "Thanks." He headed back to his room. He was determined to get this right. He wanted to look just as good as her and it was apparent that she knew what she was doing.

Back in his room he studied the magazines his sister had given him. He decided for now to try and mimic his sister. He pulled out a pair of black slacks and a blue button up shirt.

Confident that he looked good he head towards the living room.

Not What I Expected

Growth Prompt: Man those inconvenient tails! Changing from that to legs is really really hard at this point! Auden has to will himself to change his tail but something unexpected happens with his powers due to this! What is it? Solo Auden.

Prompt Summary: While practicing transforming his fin into human legs he ends up with a pair of unicorn legs instead. And, as Alison will point out he's got a cute tail to go along with this change. Unfortunately, this change seems to be somewhat permanent.

Prompt Response: Auden stretched the length of himself. His fin, dangling off the edge of the bed, flipped up. The sun was not even up yet. He was an earlier riser, or he was as of late. He often took this time to practice. He drew in a couple deep breaths and stretched again. He was having an unusually hard time waking up this morning.

Groggy but awake enough to string two thoughts together he stared at the ceiling. He crossed his arms behind his head. He was doing his best to empty his mind that was already starting to fill with daily to do thoughts.

He flipped his fin again as he focused on having legs instead of a tail. He felt the usual tingling. At least it wasn't the mind numbing pain that he had felt at first. He rubbed his head around his horn. There was a sudden unusual tingling. He touched his horn, it was there but before now he never really thought about it. His horn was hot. He wondered if it always was and he just never realized it.

He wondered if he was getting sick. He didn't feel sick. Then he remembered Rhine saying that the amount of concentration it took could cause him headaches for some time. He settled on that being the cause of his head tingling.

Doing his best he went back to focusing on transforming his tail into legs. His mind was still partially thinking of the tingling in his head and how his horn had felt. He decided that he would not be able to concentrate until he further investigated it. He wondered if it was capable of glowing.

He did have a clue that he was magical he had just never accomplished anything magical. Well unless you counted transforming his tail into legs.

He found it oddly easy to get across the room. He chalked it up to maybe legs just came easier today. He had thought about it a good bit already in the little bit of time he had been up. Upon the first couple of steps, he realized his legs felt heavier and his footsteps even sounded different.

His stomach knotted up with worry. He really DID NOT want to look down. He just knew that something was not right. He closed his eyes and drew in a deep breath. Slowly he opened his eyes and looked down.

He wanted to scream but his voice was lost to him. He took a couple quick steps backwards towards the bed. He tripped over the hooves he had instead of feet. His legs twisted and he twirled and eventually he landed on the bed.

He was fearful that this was not fixable. His heart felt as if it was going to pound right out of his chest. Finally, after what felt like hours of panicking he forced himself to breath deep. He stood up slowly and took a couple of wobbly steps forward- he hoped his mom would be of help.

About to the door he realized he was not wearing pants. Did this situation require pants? Could he even wear pants? If not pants then what? Thinking about pants about put him back into a state of worry. He shook his head and realized that was a bad idea as well. He grabbed a bed sheet and headed out the door. He hoped that his sister was still asleep. This was embarrassing.

No such luck avoiding his sister. Apparently, tripping over himself and knocking furniture over in the process had woke her up. He wondered if mom would be as easy to find, she was after all a night owl.

"Auden?" Alison said sleepily. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and blinking a couple of times to get things in focus. "What's all the fuss about," she could not stifle her yawn.

At this moment, Auden was thankful that ninety percent of the lights were off. She would be able to tell he had legs but not that they were the wrong ones. Then again, him wearing a sheet screamed that something was wrong. This morning was only going to get better…

Alison yawned and stretched. "Well?" She ran her fingers through her hair and scratched her scalp.

Auden never realized how much a mess Alison was in the mornings until now. This made him feel a bit better. Given her state, she was in no position to tease him. "Well." Where did one begin with this situation? "I'm all fuzzy from the waist down," he finally said after a long pause.

"That happens." Alison looked at her brother as if he was nuts because he was telling her the obvious.

"Look!" Auden shifted the sheet just enough so one leg showed.

"How long as it been like this?" Alison was certainly more awake now. Her eyes were the size of saucers as she stared at her brother's fuzzy leg. She reached out and touched his shoulder to spin him around. She shrieked.

"What!" Auden was now terrified. Could this get any worse?

"You've got a tail."

"A what?" Auden could not believe that what his sister had said. He certainly did not have a tail. "No I don't!" He protested. "If I did I wouldn't be panicking."

"Yes you do," Alison held up her brother's tail, "See!"

The tail she was holding up was not a fishtail at all. It was long, thin, and smooth with a tuff at the end.

Auden looked at what his sister was holding. "That isn't my tail."

"Really?" Alison gave her brothers tail a gentle tug.

Auden frowned when he felt that. "I want my tail back! MINE! Not this, this, this… whatever crazy crap that tail is."

Victoria emerged from the other end of the hall. "As much as it thrills me that you two are getting along swimmingly do you think you could keep it down?"

"No!" Auden screeched. "I'm a, a, a," he was not sure what he was but he was not normal.

"Deep breath. All this ruckus is not going to help any." Victoria had yet to look down to see her son's dilemma. "Alison please go to the kitchen and fix us some hot tea. We'll discuss what ever has you so upset once you have calmed down."

Alison nodded her head and headed off towards the kitchen to make tea.

"Come on Auden. There isn't anything that cannot be solved over a hot cup of tea," Victoria smiled and rubbed her sons back.

Auden sighed and nodded his head. His mom was amazing when it came to calming either of them down, tea or no tea.

Alison was setting the table when they came into the kitchen. "It really isn't that bad," she smiled, "kind of cute actually."

Despite narrowing his eyes, Auden smiled. Having calmed down considerably in the past couple of minutes things did not see that bad. He sat down in the chair he always sat at and watched as his sister finished setting the table.

"Thank you Alison," Victoria smiled as she sat down.

"No problem!" Tea was a piece of cake. Probably one of the only things Alison could prepare at this point. She sat down across from her brother.

They sat there in silence for a few minutes sipping tea and relaxing. Auden in particular was trying to think of nothing at all. It was at that precise moment that his mind went blank that he had his regular fish tail again.

"See," Victoria pointed to Auden's tail, "nothing a little calming down cannot fix. Now how about we try one more time before we become concerned and have to give Rhine a call."

Auden nodded his head. Being wrapped up in a sheet made his feel funny. The sheet was sticking to his fish tail, which was odd because he never recalled it sticking before. Maybe he was just hot and sweaty from all the commotion earlier.

Victoria did not push further she instead just waited patiently.

Alison took her mother's lead and did the same, although, she was very tempted to cheer him on or support him in some way.

Auden did his best to not focus on the sheet or his family. He took a few more sips of tea and tried to get a good visualization of legs. He told himself repeatedly that he wanted legs. When he felt the sheet become less annoying he took it as mission accomplished. His head was pounding from having to concentrate so hard.

Victoria glanced out of the corner of her eye. "Perhaps this is just what is meant to be."

Auden frowned. Despite being scared of what he would see, he looked down. He about passed out. He was still stuck with unicorn-ish legs.

Grounded

Growth Prompt: My you're a floaty one! But she's got just as much potential for solid legs as Auden. What happens to cause her to possibly test or develop the ability to change? Solo Alison.

Prompt Summary: Alison gets 'grounded'! After spending an afternoon in the library she finds herself unable to float. Hours pass and still she has no luck. By nights end, despite hating them, she is using human legs to get around.

Prompt Response: It was mid afternoon and Alison was curled up on the sofa in the library. She had just finished a chapter when she realized it was about lunchtime. She put the bookmarker in and closed the book. Having been in this same position for a good bit she stretched. Her mind was already on lunch as she went to 'stand up'. She fell onto the floor with a thud. More started than hurt she did her best to 'stand up'. Instead of accomplishing her goal, she remained in a sitting position.

Why was she not floating? It was as natural to her as was breathing. She felt helpless. She frowned as she quickly realized how her brother felt, he could not float like she could. She realized she could put a bit of thought into it and transform her tail into legs but she really hated legs.

Alison leaned against the sofa and stared at the ceiling. This will correct itself shortly she told herself. With great effort she pulled herself back onto the sofa. Despite being hungry she grabbed the book. She decided she could read to take her mind off of the situation and after another chapter or two try again to stand. This simply had to be a fluke.

Alison read a couple more chapters and gave 'standing' another try. Putting a little more thought and effort into it, she 'stood' up. She again found herself dropping to the floor with a loud thud. She humphed and crossed her arms. Despite being hungry, she was not going to give in and use legs. She HATED legs.

As she read another chapter, she found it harder and harder to ignore the rumbling in her stomach. She was so hungry. She was just about to give up on the stance of not using legs when Auden happened by. She was in luck, he was heading for the kitchen!

"Hey can you grab me an apple." Alison really wanted a five-course meal but decided not to be greedy. If she seemed even the slightest bit greedy Auden might become suspicious.

"Sure," Auden grabbed a couple apples from the basket on the counter. He was already munch on his when he walked into the library to hand her, her apple. "He-re," he was a bit started to find his sister sitting on the floor.

"What?" Alison asked curiously, as she reached out to take the apple.

"Why are you on the floor?"

Alison mentally smacked herself. "It's more comfortable than the sofa," she lied. The only thing between her bottom and the wood floor was a rug.

"And, I've got human legs." Auden narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest. He could easily tell when his sister was lying.

"You had them a couple days ago-"

Auden rolled his eyes.

Alison sighed as she looked down at her lap. "I can't float," saying it about put her in tears.

Auden softened up considerably and sat down next to her. "I know you're not entirely found of them but why not just transform your fin into legs."

"I was about at that point when you just happened by."

"Oh." Auden laughed.

"This isn't funny at all Auden! I didn't laugh at you when you, you," she huffed and motioned to her brothers set of fuzzy legs.

Auden immediately stopped laughing. "I wasn't laughing because I was teasing you," he mumbled.

Alison leaned over and hugged her brother. "Fussing about this isn't going to make it any better."

Auden nodded. "I'll go get you some pants." He still remembered his mothers shriek when he walked into the kitchen with nothing on. He also still could not understand what the big deal was either. All he knew is that his mom liked for them all to be dressed- something about it being the proper thing.

While waiting for her brother to return Alison nibbled on the apple.

"Here."

"Thanks." Alison gave her brother a look.

"What? What are you waiting for? You cannot possibly want to sit there all night."

"You to turn around."

Auden turned around. He didn't understand her request. "I'll go find mom."

By the time Auden found their mother, Alison had moved to the kitchen. She had started a pot of tea and set the table. She knew exactly her mother's request before it being asked- there was not anything that could not be solved over a cup of tea.

Victoria chuckled when she walked into the kitchen and saw that Alison already had tea on the table. "Thank you," she said softly as she sat down.

Alison nodded her head and sat down. She glanced at her brother who was standing in the doorway. Oddly, he looked like a lost puppy. She wondered why he was standing there and sitting down. She was about to ask when he left the room.

"This is girl stuff." Victoria put it simply enough.

Alison nodded her head. She assumed that Auden already told mom what was the mater and thus did not start blubbering.

"I honestly don't have a solution to this or know of a family member who might have a solution. All I can say is that it is probably just part of growing up. Look at your brother. Neither of you are going to grow without hiccups along the way." Hoping to keep her daughter calm and the situation under control, she smiled and spoke softly.

Alison despite her mother's smile frowned. She did not like that explanation. "Is this temporary?"

"I'm almost positive it is." Victoria put her hand on her daughters. "You probably have worked yourself up so much that you cannot focus on anything else," she paused, "like floating.

"It's just a natural thing for me."

"Even the most natural of things can become difficult when one is stressed. I myself when frustrated don't perform well and music is something that is natural for me."

Alison gave a small smile. That last bit her mom had told her made her feel better. "I still hate legs."

"Hate them all you want but you cannot deny that they come in handy."

Alison grumbled.

"Go get you a hot bath and go to bed earlier. If in the next couple of days this isn't resolved I'll look into this further."

Alison nodded her head. "Night."

Victoria
It has been a busy week around the house. I honestly don't know where to start.

I would have thought that with them coming into this world as teenagers that we wouldn't have to worry about the many little growing pains. But boy was I wrong.

Just the other day Auden was a frantic mess, instead of having a set of human legs he had a set of unicorn legs. I guess that's not all bad because at least he can get around the house without having to pull himself around. He just has to be super careful not to break anything.

Alison herself had her own problem to deal with shortly after her brothers. She found herself unable to float. She absolutely hates having to use human legs and from what I understand she spent the day on the sofa to avoid having to use them. Luckily though her brother got her to snap out of it. I think she's finally realizing the importance of having to be able to have human legs. Perhaps now she will go a bit easier on her brother and his inability to float.

It's kind of funny that Auden doesn't understand the need for clothes and Alison doesn't understand the need for legs. Speaking of clothes, Auden is thrilled to have a set of four legs simply because he doesn't have to wear pants. And because he doesn't have to wear pants he thinks he doesn't have to wear a shirt. I swear if I ever get clothes on Auden it will be a miracle. At least I did manage to get clothes on him for a brief moment the other day when the painter came to the house.

Auden still wakes up early, when he thinks no one is awake, and tries his best to be able to shift into human legs again. I wish I could encourage him in the early morning hours but I feel that it is best to let him have his illusion. He will ask for help again when he is ready.

Alison discovered my collection of floppy hats. She loved them so much that she asked if she could have one. Of course I said yes. I think though I've started something. I bet it won't be long before she has a closet full of them herself.

Having a goat in the backyard hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. We don't have to worry about food waste any more because the goat eats everything. The other day it even ate Auden's homework. I almost didn't believe this myself until Auden immediately got another piece of paper and I watched it disappear within seconds. I wonder if the goat would like mustard with his paper.

There is a lot less maintenance when it comes to Alison's hedgehog. The little critter for the most part stays in her room. The other day it did manage a great escape. We found a little booger hanging out under the kitchen cabinet. Thankfully, we found him within a matter of hours because I can only imagine were he would have ended up at had the search taken longer.

Auden
Can someone please explain to me why it is easier for my sister to shift her tail into legs. She hates legs, she would rather float.

I'm not exactly sure why but shifting my bottom half into that of a unicorn is a lot easier than trying to shift my tail into a set of human legs. You would think that having to create more of me would take less concentration but it doesn't. Matter of fact the headaches aren't as bad and I don't have to focus as hard. I'm still trying to shift my tail into human legs but at the moment the ability to do so seems to be out of my reach. I'm not going to give up the. I'm not a quitter.

Some days I wonder what else me and my sister will be capable of. Perhaps I should inquire. I just don't know who to go to ask this question. I would go to mom but she seems to be playing it one day at a time. I can't blame her, it isn't like we came with an instruction manual.

My goat made me mad the other day. I went into the backyard with an Apple and the goat ate it. Apparently the goat like apples just as much as me. I'll remember next time to bring us their apple or two. I love my goat. He is so pretty and white just like me. He has a lot of work though and it is a team effort to take care of him. My mom and my sister may act like it's a pain to help take care of him but I know they love him just as much as me.

I did get around to trying apples dipped in chocolate and apples dipped in Carmel. I must say both are pretty tasty. Mom has assured me that anything sweet covering my apples is a treat and not something to be on a regular basis. She mentioned something about not wanting my teeth to rot fallout. I don't want to loose any of my teeth so I will do as she says.

Alison
I was grounded the other day. I didn't do anything wrong which is the funny thing. I couldn't float. I didn't understand what happened at all neither did mom. Thankfully though it only lasted the length of the day. Mom told me that you expect it to happen again. I don't want to happen again. But because it did happen once I am a little less stubborn when it comes to having to use legs.

I don't exactly remember what I was doing as to the reason I was in my mom's closet but I found the most interesting thing. Mom calls them floppy hats. I immediately had to try one on and all my gosh it was the prettiest they ever. Because of my sudden fascination with said floppy hat mom took me to the store to buy a brand-new outfit is that it would match the hat. It was nice to have a mother daughter outing. Mom even took us to the ice cream parlor and let me have ice cream.

I still hate wearing shoes. Just thought I should add that. Kind of funny considering I have at least 10 pairs. I like the way they look I just don't like the way they feel on my feet.

I want to take a class on building things. I want to be able to build my hedgehog a play area. I think perhaps if she had more space to run around in she would not try to escape as often. Thankfully most of the time attention while he still in my room. The other day however she managed to work her way into the kitchen.

My brother's goat is a pain in my butt. Every time I try to be nice to it and take it scraps it tries to eat my shirt. I don't care what shirt I wear it still tries to eat it. I can be fresh out of the shower and the goat will still try to eat it. I could understand if the shirt smelled like food. Oh well I know my brother loves that stupid goat. I would love it more if it would just stop trying to eat my clothes. You know I bet Auden wanted a goat so it could eat his clothes. It makes sense, he hates clothes.

Welcome Home Willow

[Willow hummed softly as she picked out a variety vegetables to have in a salad. There were a lot of choices. It wasn't just lettuce, tomatoes, or peppers. Because there were so many varieties and colors, it made shopping difficult.

"Do you need help?" Alison asked as she came to stand by her.

"I just want lettuce and tomatoes." Willow sighed. "But, there are so many choices."

Alison knew all about choices. It could take her brother half an hour to pick out a half dozen apples. "Well," she said as she grabbed a nice sized tomato, "I don't know anything bout the names of things but this is what my mom usually gets and I know it tastes good." She smiled and handed the girl a beefsteak tomato.

Willow inspected the tomato. It was bright red, about the size of the palm of her hand, and firm. "Any suggestions on lettuce?"

"Sure," Alison moved over to the lettuce. She picked up a head of iceberg lettuce.

"Thank you," Willow smiled. She didn't inspect the lettuce like she did the tomato.

"My mom uses the lettuce and tomato not only for salads but for sandwiches also."

"Come on Alison I got the apples. Mom's waiting for us."

"One second." Alison looked over at Willow. "Is there anything else you need help with?"

Willow held out her shopping list that she had made before leaving her room. "Please."

"Come on you can shop with us. My mom will be a big help to you. She is really smart and knows about lots of things." She took Willows hand and led her over towards her brother so that the three of them could go find their mom.

"Who is your friend?" Auden asked his sister.

Willow, with vegetables still hand, hugged herself. She was a bit intimidated by the size of Auden. "My name is Willow," she squeaked.

"I'm Auden."

"I completely forgot about introductions," there was a hint of red in Alison's cheeks. She had been completely caught up in helping the girl that she had never introduced herself. "My name is Alison."

Auden noticed a few tears on the girls face, "are you sad?"

Willow smiled and shook her head, "no." She used her hands to wipe the tears from her face. "I just cry easily and over just about anything."

"So why are you shopping alone?" Auden who was suddenly curious resist asking.

"I guess I could have asked one of the staff members to come with me but I know they are busy so I didn't want to bother them." Willow focused more on the vegetables she was carrying than to the person she was having a conversation with.

"So you don't have a family yet?" Auden was trying to make sense of this.

"The staff is like family."

"You could always come live with us." Alison smiled brightly. Not that she didn't love or appreciate her brother but it would be nice to also have a sister.

"Who could come live with us," Victoria asked.

"Willow." Auden and Alison said together.

Victoria glanced past her two children and noticed the girl standing there. She noticed that she was trembling like a leaf and about in tears. "I suppose. But you realize this isn't like you two getting another pet- right?"

They both nodded their head.

Victoria briefly compared herself to her parents. If she became like them she'd have half a dozen children in no time. She smiled. "So what brings you to the grocery store?" That had to be one of the stupidest questions she had ever asked.

"This," Alison handed her mom the list of groceries.

Victoria looked the list over. She surmised that the girl had no skills when it came to cooking. Everything on the list could be eaten as is or with minimal work, no cooking involved. Most of what was on the list she already had or was coming to get. "Simple enough," she said. "After we are done here we will look into adopting her."

"Thank you," Willow smiled.

"I love apples." Auden was trying his best to make things more relaxed again. "What is your favorite thing to eat?"

"Salad."

"Mines peas and tuna fish," Alison chimed in.

"Peas are good. They are green."

"You better watch out Auden might try and steel them." Alison giggled.

"Hey!" Auden snorted.

"There is and will always be plenty for everyone," Victoria shook her head and laughed.

Where Should I Put My Heart

Willow stared at the walls of her room. She'd been here a week and while it was home it still felt strange at times. The mom of the house had suggested she take time to make the room her own. Apparently, it was something like a family tradition.

The day previous Victoria had taken Willow out shopping to get supplies. They had bought lots of potted flowers. Most of everything was nature themed. The bedspread however reminded her of her clothes that were patchwork.

Willow scooted the dresser a little to the right to make it centered. She dumped her various processions from the complex into one of the drawers. There wasn't a lot, she didn't need or want for much. She was happy with what she had.

She took time to sort her clothes and to put the different types into different drawers. She sat a few figurines on top of the dresser.

She sat down on the edge of the bed and held her heart close to her. Where was she going to put this? Wherever she decided to put it, it would have to be some place special.

"What's the matter?" Victoria asked as she knocked on her daughter's door. Originally, she had come up to check on her and invite her downstairs for snack and tea.

Willow clutched her heart tighter to her. You could tell she was genuinely scared of losing it. "I don't know where to put my heart."

It was then that Victoria remembered that Willow's chest was hallowed out and that her heart was external. She wished she had remembered this earlier when they went shopping because then she could have picked up a displace case with a lock or something similar. "Well-"

"It isn't an easy choice to make is it?" Willow looked around her room. There were plenty of surfaces she could sit it on but none of them did she consider safe. She knew that no one in the house would run off with it but still.

"How about for now I give you a way to keep it with you. I have some purses in my room that you can use."

"What if I lose my purse or it falls out?" Willow frowned.

"I have purses with shoulder straps and it won't fall out unless you forget to zip it shut." Victoria smiled and sat down next to her daughter. "Also you can put other things in your purse like money and tissues." She had mentioned tissues because she knew that Willow cried easily.

Willow noted that Alison was right about their mom; she seemed to have a solution for everything. "I do like the idea of being able to carry it around. It makes me feel more content to know that it is safe. Thank you."

"Welcome. I see you have just about got your room squared away."

Willow nodded her head, "just a couple more potted plants and it will be done."

Victoria stood up. As she headed to the door, she motioned for Willow to follow. "Well then how about we take a break and you come to my room and we can look for the perfect purse. And afterwards we can go downstairs for an afternoon snack and tea."

"Is there anything green for snack?" Willow loved eating everything that was green.

"Green apples count?"

Willow nodded her head.

Victoria
Thanks to Auden and Alison, we have added another addition to our house. We adopted a little girl named Willow. Actually, she is about Auden and Alison's age. I'd say just a smidge younger than them though. However, she does seem a bit more mature than her siblings do.

Unless she is smiling or frowning, it is hard to gage her emotions because she cries easily. I've also noticed that she is a really healthy eater which is great because the rest of us don't really like junk food either.

I caught her the other day out in the rain just standing there looking up. I think was attempting to catch it in her mouth. She did not seem to care that she was drenched. Matter of fact I don't think she really understands hot and cold. Perhaps it is because she is made of wood.

Other than a purse or lock box I think we really need to find a better way for Willow to keep up with her heart. There is no telling what will happen to her if she loses it. I'm actually kind of scared that she will lose it. She does seem a bit absentminded at times.

Willow
Living here is a lot different from living at the complex. I'm not saying it is better or worse, just different. It is nice to have people that make up an actual family.

The house is huge. It is very easy to get lost. There seems to be a room for everything, there must be at least five or six sitting rooms. I've been told that each room has a different name, but to me they are just sitting rooms.

Auden is somewhat silly when it comes to his hair and appearance. He is so fussy. It can take him half an hour to get himself ready every day. Alison is just about the same way; actually, I think she takes an hour. Thankfully, this house has several bathrooms.

Alison loves to read. I think she spends most of her time in the library. She showed me a couple books that might interest me. I don't know though if I want to invest that much time in reading.

My favorite place to be is the small garden just outside the back door. The garden isn't as big as the one in the complex but still it is really nice. There are a lot of pretty flowers in the garden and there always seems to be something blooming.

I did finally finish decorating my room. Our mom even went out and bought me a special display case for my heart. She says there is something magical about it and that only I'll be able to open it. I hope she is right. I wish the purse I carry around could be enchant. I wonder if someday I'll actually be able to have my heart in my chest.
