ryruko Yes! I too, am as picky as can be when it comes to anime. I would far prefer seinen titles for their story lines (they usually have more interesting plots) but sometimes those better plots come at the price of too much violence or other mature themes. The most mature thing I ever read (all the way through) was Akira and I never want to go that far again, even though (all in all) I liked Akira. Yes! What is anime with out some good action! I like most shoujo that I have tried, the problem is that I don't try them often! By the way! Let's see what manga is trending among us! What are you favorites that you have read, are reading or want to read? I am a huge fan or Spiral Suiri No Kizuna, XS Hybrid, Hitogatana and Zetsuen No Tempest! Cool titles. I'll check them out^^ Honestly I haven't read the updates of some of these mangas for so long because of work but these are my faves so far: Ao no Exorcist, Naruto, Skip Beat, Ouran, Vampire Knight, Dear School Gang Leader, Death Note, Dogs: Bullets & Carnage, Deadman Wonderland, Suicide Island..

That makes me happy for some reason! whee Really is Ouran still running or is it completed? I love Ouran!!! I don't know why exactly but I have watched the anime like seven times! Haha Oh, wait, I havent read Dear High school Gang leader. I will have to look that one up!

I think Ouran is completed. Have you seen its live action? It's hilarious! XD You must see it. I think they have copied the manga well. Wow, seven times huh. You're a big fan! XD I'm planning to watch Samurai Champloo and Noblesse. I'm just really curious about these two.

Hahaha seven may be a bit of an exaggeration. I have probably seen it about 4-5 times. Mostly because I want to laugh and I can't think of anything else funny to watch. xd Oh yes! I saw the preview for that! I will have to try it! I did watch the live action for High School debut and I loved it! It is amazing how they still make it look like an anime! mrgreen Oh, I tried Samurai Champloo but I didn't like it. Noblesse, on the other hand, looked really interesting. Of course, I didn't make page 6 or 7 because I got distracted. (I will have to pick that one up again)

Really? Why? I'm currently reading Samurai Champloo though I'm not sure yet but I think its cool. What really attracted me to Noblesse is the art and that its Korean. I don't watch/read a Korean anime much.

Well, I really enjoyed the first episode of the anime and the set up for the story but after that it got weird for me. Yes! I find it interesting for that reason as well! You might like XS Hybrid too then, its also a Manhwa. Although, I must warn you. It's incomplete. crying However the same Korean artist is working on a manga by a Japanese author. It's called Till Death do Us Part, and it looks pretty awesome!

ryruko I know right! That's my problem! I know there are TONS of anime out there but I am beginning to think that all the anime I am going to like I have already watched or am watching. I have seen anime with some fanservice in it, in fact most anime is not without a few "cheesecake" moments but when its ALL THE TIME, I start to get really annoyed. Yeah, something about mecha just quite catch my interest. Broken blade is probably the only one I got past the "trial stage on." Even so, as you said in our earlier discussion, something is sorta missing from that story. Although, I kind of like the original Macross (robotech) series for its retro hilarity/awesomeness! Unoriginal plots, yeah sometimes that's a tough one to spot or dislike, but when I can tell you exactly what's going to happen in the series by episode two, then It's time for something different. At least Zetsuen no Tempest is keeping me guessing! Well, you could always try what I do... Pick up titles at random and see if they work or not. A very time consuming, yet pretty effective wash and repeat method. Kinda like the Rosario + Vampire anime? That also could depend on the type of Mecha as well. I mean series like Gundam, Broken Blade, and Gurren Lagaan actually fit with the title, the series primarily involving giant robots. Then you get these other series that call themselves Mechas, but aside from some robot action here and there, it's mostly real world drama from the pilots. Ah! I can understand that one. The other day I was reading a mystery manga about a kids dream to be a detective, so he goes to a detective school. For the final part of the entrance exam, him and the other entries go to an abandoned island to solve a mystery. As they do, a storm rolls in, preventing them from getting home. (at this point its fairly common and seems to be building to the plot) They start talking about a murder that happened on the island long ago that was never solved. (pretty sure whats next is obvious) Next day, they find one of the students murdered. (by this point I already knew the rest of the arcs setup. That death, along with other deaths that follow were all faked to test the students) And it's all just a giant "Come on!" build up.

Well, to a degree I do that. I sometimes browse new manga or see and interesting picture or page and find out what it is from. But mostly a browse by genre, by excluding the things I don't like and selecting the things I do. Yeah, I kinda like Rosario+Vampire. Or was that a question about why I said that? That also could depend on the type of Mecha as well. I mean series like Gundam, Broken Blade, and Gurren Lagaan actually fit with the title, the series primarily involving giant robots. Then you get these other series that call themselves Mechas, but aside from some robot action here and there, it's mostly real world drama from the pilots. Yeah, that is true. Some them also seem mislabeled. Like Rideback, not really a mecha at all. They should just redefine the genre, Mecha can have anything to with machinery and Giant Robot can define its own category. Hahaha! I think I may have tried the same one! Hahaha! Yeah, you know what I mean. I just want to be able to say "What's gonna happen next??!" at the end of every episode. FMA, Spiral Suiri No Kizuna, Zetsuen no Tempest, and Tora Dora! did that for me in Anime and Hitogatana and XS Hybrid did that for me in manga. If I know the story inside and out then I am less likely to watch it. Hahaha, but then again, who doesn't know how your generic anime romance is going to turn out. It's obvious from episode 2. LoL

I'd try limiting some of the limiters every now and then. There's always a chance you could find a mislabeled series..or find a diamond among the dirt (so to speak) Well, you mentioned not really being a fan of the overly excessive fanservice in series...so I was asking if you were talking about Rosario + Vampire's anime, since most people tend to say it's overly perverse due to excess panty shots, well endowed characters that aren't shy to point that out, etc...etc.. True. Last I knew, Mecha was giant robots and machinery ...everything else was put in the science fiction category. That "what happens next" factor...I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love the suspense of not being able to predict what'll happen, but I hate having to wait for the next episode...and if I don't have to wait..I normally hate it because I'm so enthralled I completely lose track of time and end up at 5 in the morning finishing off a title... Well, yeah. In general it's always obvious guy gets with girl by the end, but it's the in between that's what's important there. ToraDora's a good example there. It's overall was fairly predictable, but the in between was suspenseful and addicting.

Zero the Crimson You are all too correct! Sometimes there are completely mislabeled series that's why I do random browsing sometimes. I have found more than a few diamonds in the dirt as you say, just goes to show you cant judge a manga by its tags or genres. Oh yeah, well I was a huge Shonen Jump fan, I have three years worth of them sitting under my desk. Rosario+Vampire made an appearance in an issue and I kinda liked it but then I tried the next couple of chapters and it lost me. Some of these things can be done in relative innocence and for comedic purposes so I don't mind it all the time. But too much is too much and I just can't watch/read anymore. I wish it were that cut and dry, it seems up-loaders and scan websites alike tag anything with MECHAnical elements as a Mecha. So there are times when a mecha manga shows up that has no robots to be found but may have trains, tanks and aircraft. I think it just so happens that giant robots are the most popular element of the genre. Just like Fantasy doesn't exactly mean swords and sorcery but you would be hard pressed to find many fantasies without those elements. Yeah, it can be bad and good. Sometimes the more dramatically interesting a series is, the less watchable it is. But two things usually prevent me from being burdened by it. One: I usually jump on the fan-wagon waaay late and it prevents the week long agony waiting for a new episode (Like with FMA, I watched the original series at the start of 2012 and finished Brotherhood the same year). Two: I really like anime A LOT but it doesn't interfere with my daily activities (well...not really). I actually prefer to watch things once a week to a certain degree. Then I can make a good series strrrreeeeeeeetch out for a long time. True, and if it wasn't a little obvious then by the end we might be like "WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED? I didn't she liked that guy? He's the wrong one!!!!" Yup, that is why ToraDora! is one of my all time favorites, predictable but exciting all the way through. More romance anime should be like that.

I tend to watch things that seem interesting to me not just because they are anime. I do actually like Gantz thought, although it's a bit violent a little weird. I like Elfen Lied too.
Manga I like Saiyuki and Samurai Deeper Kyo as well as Battle Royale.

Ok... so I recently watched Avatar: The last Airbender.
As a kid I disliked it intensely and thought it was stupid. So I went into watching it with trepidation. (The reason is me and my bloke are doing a share the TV series thing in which we show the other anime or shows that mean a lot to us, dawww sweet I know)
I had two people saying how much they loved it and that I just needed to give it a shot.
So I watched. At first the goofy things that happen at serious moments grated on me like they did when I was much younger but a realization hit me that made me not only appreciate these moments but LOVE them. Simply put I was being to damn serious, I had to admit if I had to deal with hard to deal with stuff I turn to funny or goofiness in a heartbeat.
So after getting over myself and waving good bye to my inner party-pooping person I began to really love this show.
I would personally call this anime even though some view it as a western cartoon.
In short its definitely worth a watch. The moral of my story is if you don't like something really ask yourself why that is.

I need to quit picking up anime at random....especially in English Dub, because then I start liking it, then I want to watch more, but since it just recently was dubbed only 4 episodes are on Hulu and I see that you can purchase them online (and in stores, if you're lucky) and they just seem to scream at me "Buy Me, Buy Me" but I can't and I cry a little on the inside as I close the page thinking "I'm so sorry, I don't have the money right now."
