At the reply - a familiar voice and a familiar name - Jordan relaxed slightly. "Melvin, it's Jordan," he called. "Rep, Harrison and Jerry are here too. Come over this way."

He took a more careful look around the area, as much as he could see of it. There was a glimmer in the distance that might be a light, now that he was looking for it. There was a little heap of something under the edge of the chair, and he edged closer for a look; someone had dropped bandages at some point, apparently. One of them looked strange, but he scooped both up anyway. A little farther underneath lay a small vial of some sort. He debated with himself as to whether he should take it, and decided that if it proved useless he could throw it away later.

Rep had tensed up the moment he had spotted the figure in the fog, holding Tracey close, set, ready and willing to cleave whatever the hell tried to come over to them in half. It was only fortunate that the faint glow of runes stayed his hand long enough for Melvin to speak.

He relaxed, dropping the axe to the ground with an audible sigh of relief.

"It's just ******** goldilocks."

Good, that bought them some time. He took it to check around while heading over to make sure Melvin wasn't harbouring some awful virus or whatever, that was how s**t went down in the movies right?

Hearing that it was Melvin did not encourage Jerry to lower his weapon.

Melvin would have asked to make sure, but he had a sense that the voice had been familiar. As further proof they were not imposters, Rep chided in with his creative nickname. When Melvin walked over to see Rep, he was frowning. " It's Melvin, Pippi." He huffed back, though he was relieved to see them.

Walking over to the rest, his eyes went to see a guy he could only assume was Harrison an then went wider at seeing the giant bazooka pointed at him. "Holy hell." That was one big gun. Much bigger than his. : (

Jealous?

Melvin didn't comment.

Melvin got a chilly glare for his comment, Rep was adept at dishing nicknames out, but having the favour reciprocated tended to end up in the most hostile sort of response.

"Awrite Melvin." he snarled irritably. He was tense and riled up to begin with, any outlet would suffice. He even steered it Jerrywards.

"And the last ******** thing we need is friendly fire right now you ******** eedjit. Lowering the giant ******** bazooka might be an idea"

"There's tons of s**t around here," Harrison said, dismissive now that it was definitely another Hunter, and one Rep seemed to know, "Looks like our supplies. I think half the medtent got dragged out, same us us."

He inspected some broken glass.

"Samples from the science guys, too."

Jerry gave a snort, finally lowering Roar, but didn't desummon him. His face set as he pushed his glasses up his nose, eyeballing Melvin carefully. "Well, pocket what looks useable, we should get moving and find the others." Ignore the disrespectful newbie. HE was the Alpha Wolf here, awoowoowoo. His sour mood did not need to be prodded by the unnerving Lifer.

As though ready to leave Melvin in the dust, he turned to shuffle forward to hopefully get lost in the fog.

"Jerry, wait," Jordan said. "Don't take off in a random direction. Rep spotted lights out there; we should at least use them as a reference point. If we don't have anything to steer by, we may end up walking in circles. And I don't think it's a good idea to split up in here, especially if there's anything else hanging out in this fog."

He pointed out the dim, distant suggestion of light. "I say we should head for it. There may be other people there, or it may be a door. It's the only real landmark we've got right now."

Rep nodded at Jordan, in full agreement, Jerry's usual callous disregard for his well-being was starting to annoy him already.

always choose responsible safe things of your own devices>

He fought back the urge to say just let him go, if that was what he so clearly wanted and instead decided just to leave the wrangling to Jordan, who seemed to have it well enough in hand. Instead he sought out the light he was sure he spotted before, squinting into the fog.

"Aye man. Out that way. And it kind of looks blue. It's either a ******** swanky bar, a nightclub or runic light, and I dunno man, I could go with any one of those things right about now."

While Melvin had been nervous and touchy in turn, Jerru and Rep both looked ready to kill. Considering he wanted the guys who could hit the monsters hardest if and when they showed up not to hate him, Melvin decided not to push it with any more sass. Right now, he just wanted to get back alive and not get lost again.

Looking about, he nudged a few piles of trash that was nearby with his shoe. Samples, used bandages, but there was one that looked useable. Picking it up, he pocketed it and looked off in the direction of the light. He hopes that was a portal more than anything.

*DECISION- Heading towards cold light.

Harrison had about the same train of thought as Rep- the cold neon meant runic tech. And they needed to find the base camp.

He adjusted his bandages, and positioned himself in the middle of the group - nothing that messed with them would come out of it in one piece, at least. B0nez's yellow eye socket left a faint trail.

The sound penetrated the fog better than light did, and as they got closer Harrison could hear voices-

It was a relief when the glow resolved itself into familiar daggers and human guards.

He waved to the patrollers tiredly, then proceeded forward to where tents and supplies were still getting put up.

"Guess we didn't get dragged too far," Harrison said, "but I bet the portals working again's too much to ask for."

The break was nice, and at least they knew where everybody was now, but none of them were knocked out or dragging any broken bones around. It seemed like the guys around camp didn't know where the hell they were either, and where Caelius had been to get so banged up was anybody's guess. Allan didn't look too good either. The portals, as usual, were down.

So that left patrolling.

Not that Harrison was keen on it, but orders were orders, and he found himself on the edge of camp again, contemplating the seemingly endless, murky fog.

He hadn't wandered too far from the original group, and kept especial close watch on Rep and Jordan- he wasn't a stranger to illusions, and that this particular oasis might just be a trick to lull them into a false sense of security crossed his mind.

"Wish the earpieces were working," he said. If wishes were fishes they'd all cast their nets. Instead they were stuck with fog monsters and crappy tech.

"If we got sucked inside the house," Harrison started warily, which was a good guess all considered, "there's no telling what's gonna happen to us out there."

The camp was a welcome sight when they arrived and the urge was to just find somewhere comfortable and stay there, simply avoid heading back out into the swirling fog. But it was an out of place desire these days, back home sure, he would have avoided doing even a scrap of work he didn't have to - but back home he had nothing to prove. Here and now, he was a sun, and his job was to be actually out there doing s**t, regardless of how dangerous it might actually be.

They needed a few unhurt patrol monkeys and it looked like there wasn't anyone else jumping to the task.

"Maybe one day they'll give us tin cans with string, at least that would actually work in here." he snorted derisively, clearly the inconvenience was all Life's fault - probably too busy watching porn and taking bets to do a days work.

Unsettled by the comment about what being inside the house entailed, he gave the fog a hesitant look before realising he was looking like a coward by doing so. Harrison got a nonplussed glare. "You should get a job as a motivational speaker."

"Nah. The string would run out at exactly the wrong moment." Finding the camp in relatively decent order had been encouraging; Jordan hadn't expected the portals to be back up yet. Being undamaged themselves meant that they were an obvious choice to go out on patrol again. Jordan didn't mind. The larger group made him feel slightly more secure.

He kept Ferros summoned and ready. With the lack of visibility in the area, if anything came out of the fog at them they would have to rely on sound to warn them, if that.

Jerry merely grunted. Fine, they'd follow the light. Even if it turned out to be something dangerous.

Honestly, he was looking forward to something to shoot at. He wasn't sure if possible maiming would get his spirits up, but it was a distraction, at least.

Following along with the others, he was glad to see the light at the end of the fog tunnel wasn't a train but the other hunters. Numbers made him feel secure and easily hidden behind people who seemed to have know what to do and moved with familiar purpose. Melvin on the othe hand simple got in the way and, not experienced to do much, was sent to protect the edge. Moving along the other hunters, battle stance set and weapon ready, he probably looked like the weak link in the chain of defense. Glancing over, he was flanked by hunters with man-sized weapons that made his look like a water gun in comparison.

He held his weapon with the appearance of someone who had yet to figure out which grip was best or most comfortable and looked out at the fog with the concentrated hope that nothing bad would show up.
