He has the same fears as his father, however -- that any he love may be used against him by the Six. He thinks that a mate and foals would not only be good for him, but would be fantastic for Azreth as well, as the King could use more laughter in his life. x x x x↳xx Varian wants nothing more than to see the King happy and safe. Realistically, though, Varian understands that happiness -- at least right now -- will not come easily to the boy. He hopes to ease Azreth's grief and pain, not only from losing Valdien, but from the Fallen and Morpheus as well. x x x x↳xx The stallion hopes to keep his lifemate, Avari, safe from anything that could threaten her. He swore to her that he would always protect her, would always watch over her and keep her safe from harm. Because of his troubled past -- and her personality -- Varian sees the mare as his delicate 'Little Sparrow,' and would go out of his way to ensure she is happy. He hopes one day to reunite her with her lost family -- and to hunt down and kill the men that abused her when she was younger. x x x x↳xx ⚔FEARS⚔xx x x x x↳xx Varian abhors the thought of any harm coming to either Azreth or Avari. The two mean everything to him -- are everything to him -- and he would give his life, even his immortal spirit to protect them. x x x x↳xx The stallion is lacking confidence that he can live up to his father's legacy -- and because of that, he has some deep-seated issues. He doesn't want to let anyone down, so daily he strives to perform his father's duties with the same perfection . . . while being far more humble about it all. x x x x↳xx Varian is absolutely terrified of breaking a promise or letting someone down. His fear may be irrational, but because of his very nature, he takes giving his word seriously. If a promise were ever broken because of his lack of action, Varian would be disgusted with himself for months -- if not years. x x x x↳xx Like his father before him, Varian fears any harm coming to the Greater Herd or the Chosen of any Azrein. That fear, at its core, is what makes him who he is, and because of that fact, he embraces it and does not shy from it. If anyone were to die, be Cursed, or be Turned while he was on watch, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself. ⚔HOBBIES⚔xx x x x x↳xx Spending time with his Chosen x x x x↳xx Catering to his mate, Avari x x x x↳xx Patrolling the Greater Herd x x x x↳xx Listening to Bards ⚔THEME SONG⚔xx "Brothers Under The Sun" - Bryan Adams

⚔DUTY⚔xx Varian believes fervently that duty is his highest calling; as well he should. Knowing what his father went through before his death only adds fuel to Varian's fire. The stallion was conceived not through traditional means, but was a gift from the gods to both the late Valdien and the King. Varian was born from the sacrifice Valdien made, from the love in the King's soul for his late Bonded, and from Valdien's own heart. Knowing this, Varian does what he can to ensure that he answers his conscience and the will of the Good Spirits by helping any who he can, and offering support to all the rest. He will never shirk from his duty, no matter the cost to himself, as his father did before him.
⚔POWER⚔xx Being a High Deity, Varian has massive stores of power that he could draw on at any given time. However, because of his base nature, he refuses to do so unless another's life is in danger. He would not put another at risk by unleashing the maelstrom of raw Skill within him unless the circumstances were dire. Because of the power V has within himself, he bolsters the King's own Skill, though he does so reluctantly. He believes that the magics of human and Azrein should only mix through their Bond and by no other means.
⚔LOYALTY⚔xx As one would assume, Varian has much of the same morals as his father once lived by. Right under duty is loyalty. Even though Varian had no childhood, when his awareness surfaced, loyalty came before all else but duty in his mind. Whether it be to his Chosen, Azreth, or to someone whom he had pledged a simple favor, V will always follow through on his word. The stallion would rather die a coward's death than renege on a promise, and as such, he will push himself to the limit to deliver. However, on the other hand, Varian is a deep thinker, and so he will turn down a promise if he knows he cannot make good on it. He believes that there is a fine line -- a double-edged knife -- between loyalty and blind foolishness.
⚔HONESTY⚔xx The stallion will always remain honest...to his Chosen, anyway. Otherwise, he will follow the King's lead concerning what to tell the people and the Greater Herd of the Isle. He knows that the King has his Isle's best-interests at heart, and though he may not like it, Varian will go along with one of the boy's white lies to maintain order. However, if Varian is by himself and knows that the truth will not set back the cause, he will not shy away from telling it like he sees it; to some, this is brutal honesty, but to him, it's just common sense.
⚔HUMILITY⚔xx One thing the son has that the father lacked is humility. Where Valdien was on occasion a shameless flirt and quite vain, Varian is quite humble, and thinks of the things he does simply as 'the right thing to do', and that's the end of it. When he is praised for something, even by his Chosen, the stallion will brush it aside and just explain that he was doing his duty. However, when he is not 'working,' so to speak, the stallion loses his solemn mask, to the heady relief of the King.
⚔WARINESS⚔xx Although Varian has complete faith in his Chosen, his trust ends there. Because he retains a few of his father's memories, the stallion has a deep-seated skepticism and mistrust ingrained within him. Upon meeting a new Azrein, Varian would rather question them first, and then make small-talk after; the complete opposite from the way his father handled things most times. This has earned him a reputation for being high-strung, but the truth of the matter is that because of the wisdom gained from his father's sacrifice, Varian would rather unintentionally insult someone and have them be mad at him than have them be dead and be happy with him. Dead, as they say, is dead, and Varian will do anything and everything he can to prevent it from touching those around him and in the Greater Herd.
⚔WISDOM⚔xx While to many, being wise would seem like a good thing, to Varian it is simply a burden. No other Azrein on the Isle is like him, for he was born from the will of the spirits and a sacrifice made by his father. Because of this, Varian has vast amounts of knowledge and even a slight gift of foresight. This knowledge makes most other Azrein distance themselves from him because if his father knew them, Varian retains his father's memories of everything they are. The stallion also hates the knowledge he has because of the responsibility it takes to bear it -- he must do all he can to help others, because he has vital knowledge that they are lacking -- and that could be the difference between their life and death.
⚔GRAVITY⚔xx Because Varian is the God of Duty and Sacrifice, by nature he is very serious, very grave. He knows the weight of duty, and he understands his father's sacrifice better than anyone save Azreth. Though Varian is openly friendly, his smiles never quite reach his eyes, and many humans and Azrein mention that he needs to learn to enjoy life a little more, which always confuses him. He is happiest when doing his duty and sacrificing his passions for others -- by essence his very nature -- and so to him, he is as happy as he could be, especially when he's with the King. However, whenever he isn't working, Varian will openly enjoy himself. Though, like a doctor on call, if anything arises and Varian is needed, he will drop whatever he's doing and rush to the aid of whoever needs assistance.

⚔E M P A T H Y ⚔ xx Varian has the gift of Empathy, most likely because of the overwhelming emotions his father experienced at the time of his death. Varian is distinctly tuned in to those he is interacting with, and he picks up on their emotions -- especially if they're feeling strongly about something, be it anger, grief, whatever. Generally, Varian will keep his mental walls up to avoid prying too deeply into another's heart.
⚔S O U L G A Z E⚔ xx This is the power that Varian fears the most. Because he is a High Deity, he has the power to Soulgaze with another sentient being. He can only enter a Soulgaze with a humanoid, other Azrein, and Familiars. When a Soulgaze is initiated, Varian can see into the heart and -- you guessed it -- the soul of another being. But they can also see inside of him. Every hidden secret, every aspiration, every fear will be known to each other. This could be a great benefit or a terrible weakness depending on the being whom he Soulgazed with. Unless Varian consciously has his mental walls up, if he locks gazes with another for longer than seven seconds, a Soulgaze will begin. However, once he has Soulgazed with someone, unless the core of who they are drastically changes, then even if he locks gazes for a minute with them, a Soulgaze will not repeat itself.
⚔J U D G E M E N T ⚔ xx If Varian ever comes across a Turned or a Cursed, allied with the Six, and they end up fighting, Varian will intentionally initiate a Soulgaze to judge their character before he kills them. If he finds there is hope for them to mend their ways -- and their crimes are not grievous -- he will let them go. However, extenuating circumstances may apply. On the other hand, if he finds them so far gone into the madness and taint that so often corrupts those in or allied with the Dark Herd, Varian will pass Judgement on them and condemn them to Duty in the World of Below, serving the Dark Gods for eternity. He is only able to do this because he is the God of Duty and Sacrifice -- both apply to this power -- but it takes a very heavy toll on him. When Varian condemns a soul in this manner, the bells hanging from his antlers -- which can also alert him to the presence of a soul by chiming in a different pitch -- go abruptly silent before glowing white-gold, brighter than the sun. He then proceeds to pierce the Turned's or Cursed's throat, and the light from the bells incinerates them painlessly. However, when this happens, Varian utterly disgusts himself for the life that he has taken -- even though it's his Duty -- and he generally becomes violently sick, unconscious, loathes himself, or -- most commonly -- all three at once. Passing Judgement and killing with it in this manner takes a heavy, heavy emotional and mental toll on the God, and it will forever haunt him, burned in his memory, and it will never fade nor blur with time. Varian loathes and detests this power and calls it his curse, and will only use it in extreme situations, when there is no way out. However, before every fight, Varian also will offer the enemy a chance to retreat -- which, of course, the foolish ones never take, much to his dismay.
⚔P A S S I V E xxS K I L L ⚔ xx Varian has what he terms 'Passive Skill.' This is a vast store of raw, unbridled energy that another can call upon, since it is largely useless to him. Every Azrein has a small amount of Skill within them, but it is so miniscule that it is of no use. As Azreth is the center of the Spirit Web in which all Azrein are connected, so too is Varian. And that is where he gets this endless store of pure Skill. All of the latent Skill within other Good-Aligned Azrein is somehow channeled to Varian, where it builds up into a bottomless well of energy. Varian can use it to do things such as push aside fatigue for a while, or to increase his running or flying speed by a little, however this tires him out tremendously and takes a heavy toll on his mortal body. xx Though Azreth is able to tap this power through the Bond he shares with Varian, the stallion most often times refuses the King unless the circumstances are dire, a matter of life and death. Though the King pretends to hold this against the Azrein, they both know that it's merely an act. However, Azreth himself is against tapping into this raw Skill, since he knows it could easily kill both heand Varian -- along with anyone around them -- if he did not have the Will to control it. And, in scary situations, one does not always have the needed concentration to harness wild energy like what's inside of Varian. xx The two agree that the Passive Skill is not to be touched by either of them unless one or the other is in an extreme situation. This decision alone helps them to sleep better at night, since if all of the Passive Skill within Varian was loosed, it would level the Isle.
⚔T H E xx C A L L⚔ xx Varian, like all High Deities, has something called the 'Call.' This is an inflection of voice, a special tone, that commands others to do something. However, he can only use the Call if it coincides with his field -- duty and sacrifice. While the Call is not absolute, most beings will hear it and obey. However, Varian only uses this to save the one to whom he is speaking, and not for any sort of personal gain.
⚔F O R E S I G H T⚔ xx Varian has a very small amount of Foresight -- meaning that he can on rare occasions see what might come to pass in the future. However, these occurrences are quite rare, and the information that he can interpret is fuzzy at best. The future can always be changed, and if something he sees is devastating, the very choice he and his Chosen make might cause it to end up that way. Because foretelling the future is so hit-and-miss, generally Varian will relate to the King what he has learned, and they only take caution, not make decisions solely on what the Azrein has seen.
⚔T O R M E N T⚔ xx The price of Varian being born into this world is very, very heavy. Every moment that he is awake, Varian feels the agony of the slow, tortured death his father Valdien experienced. Within the first few moments of being on the Isle, he learned to control it, but it is something that stays with him, every second of every day unless he is asleep. Because of his gift of Empathy, Varian can use this pain and Project it onto another being -- but doing so causes him to feel it threefold. So while he can incapacitate another from the sheer torture of it, he will be in ceaseless pain until he either cuts off his empathy or becomes unconscious. When he Soulgazes with another, they too feel this unrelenting, unending agony, and it brings them to their knees until the Soulgaze stops. However, they also see that he is pure of heart, and that he fights through the pain of the Torment to carry on his duty.
⚔O T H E R ⚔ x x x x↳xx Because Varian is a Deity, he has several special powers that no other Azrein can command. However, each of these skills comes with a cost, and Varian doesn't use them unless he has no other choice. x x x x↳xx When he was first 'born,' Varian had a lot of difficulty getting his powers under control. At times, one or another of them would overwhelm him, distracting him from what he was doing or putting him in immediate danger because he wasn't aware of his surroundings. x x x x↳xx Though this isn't technically a 'power,' so to speak, Varian retains some memories of Valdien. Within him, a small part of Valdien still lives on, and sometimes, the stallion can feel his father's emotions or hear his thoughts when he -- for example -- meets an old acquaintance of his father's. He has vast amounts of his sire's knowledge to draw on, but this is both a burden and a blessing. Varian has to make an effort to separate his emotions from Valdien's, especially if his sire was biased one way or another towards another Azrein or human.
⚔JULY 29TH | 2O12⚔xx Varian becomes a sentient being. [ ie; is 'born'.] When he plummets from the skies, his first encounter is with Avari. He begins to fall for Avari, and realizes that he would do anything to keep her safe. When he first meets her, new to his powers, he accidentally initiates a Soulgaze. He tells her that they must move to a safe location, since allies of the Six could trace them because of the power emitted. During their travels, the two get to know each other, and after a night where Varian watched over her the entire way through, a Turned ambushed them in the Greater Herd Plains. Varian gave the Turned Azrein a chance to retreat back to the south to the Dark Herd, which it refused before attacking. The stallion mercilessly cut him down and passed Judgement on his soul, calling him to Duty in the afterlife. He successfully protected Avari. However, he got hurt in the process by the Turned, and received a nasty gash across his flanks and ribs.
⚔JULY 3OTH | 2O12⚔xx Varian meets Yunigoni, one of his father's past acquaintances. That same night, he met Damir, who pledged to Varian an offer of service of his own free will. Varian denied it, but the stallion pressed, so eventually Varian accepted his assistance in the guise -- and sincerity -- of an offer of friendship from Damir. ⚔JULY 31ST | 2O12⚔xx Varian meets Razien, one of the Six's Turned while he is patrolling the roads north, tipped off by a raven that the Six were sending out parties to gain information on the King's army. Varian Soulgazed Razien after the young stallion claimed that he wanted nothing more to do with the Six, and saw he was speaking truth. Using the Call, Varian severed Razien's ties in his mind to the Six, and Razien pledged his service to the God of his own free will. Varian once more declined an Azrein who wished to put themselves in debt to him, and instead -- warily -- took up Razien's offer of friendship. He enlisted the ex-Turned to assist him with the rest of his patrol, to be bait for taking out the remaining parties; partly to test his loyalty by putting his life on the line, and partly to press the advantage it would give him over the scouting Turned. ⚔AUGUST 2ND | 2O12⚔xx Varian is Pulled towards an area in the woods he was traversing when he came across Lalita. The Guardian Spirit told him that she would be there to guide him, to give him information when he desired it, and to help him realize the choices he had during times of strife. She explained, however, that she could not influence his choices by any means, and that she was simply there to support him and be a confidant. They parted ways with a mutual understanding, and though Guardian Lalita is not as strong as he, Varian feels a sense of relief knowing that there is someone from his own world -- even if she is not a High Deity like him -- to request assistance from.
⚔PARENTAGE⚔xx x x x x↳xx Lord Varian is the son of Valdien, the Fallen who was once Protector of the Greater Herd and Bonded to the King, Azreth Deservian, first of his name. But unlike other Azrein, Varian wasn't born from two parents. x x x x↳xx He was created from three things: The Will of the Good Spirits, the half of Azreth's soul that was lost when Valdien died, and Valdien's own heart [ the spiritual one, not the physical ]. Because of this, Varian is vastly different from every other Azrein on the Isle. x x x x↳xx Varian was 'born' among thin clouds partly obscuring a full moon, and he changed from a memory, a spirit, into a living, breathing, sentient being. And with his body came mortality as well -- a fact that he both relishes and is deathly afraid of all at once.

x x x x↳xx Azreth is fiercely loyal and has a strong sense of justice. Forced into becoming King at a young age -- due to the untimely and planned death of his father -- the weight of the crown that he wears burdens him heavily. However, because of his sense of responsibility and love for his people, the young King will do anything and everything he can to ensure that his Subject's lives run as smoothly as possible in the midst of war. x x x x↳xx Azreth is intelligent, rash, proud, and he has a huge heart. The King has a connection to every Azrein on the Isle, and cherishes each one -- even those allied with the Six -- more than anything. He will move mountains and part seas for any Azrein that needs him, and damn the consequences if someone gets in his way. x x x x↳xx To many, Azreth comes off as cocky and self-sure, though really most of it is a facade because he's still unsure if he has what it takes to rightfully govern the Isle. He knows that the people need a King, but he absolutely hates the war with the Six entirely, wishing for nothing more than a peaceful end. Even though he is forced to kill for the safety of his subjects, he holds out hope that another way will be found to end the war without bloodshed, but it doesn't seem likely now that he has declared war on the Six and their allies. x x x x↳xx Azreth has high moral reservations and a strong conscience. He would give up anything for his subjects or the Azrein, and would do anything to ensure their safety and well-being, even if it meant he was injured or traumatized in the process. Though he can be flippant and cocky, Azreth's duty comes before anything, and that weighs very, very heavily on his young shoulders.

♕xxxA v a r i :xx [ [ LIFEMATE ] ] x x x x↳xxAvari strikes Varian as a sweet, delicate mare. She had a horrible, tragic past, and something deep within him wants nothing more to protect her and keep her safe, from both things in the present day as well as from her own memories and nightmares. She was the first Azrein he met upon being 'born,' and he accidentally initiated a Soulgaze on her. Because of that, he can see what a pure heart she has, and is inexorably drawn to her. Because of the Soulgaze, he had to make a difficult decision and take Avari from the glade she called home, and feels unspeakably guilty about it. But if he hadn't, doubtless the powerful energies released during the Soulgaze would have brought a hoard of the Six's allies down upon her, and he couldn't bear to see or even think about blood marring her pristine coat and gentle features. Varian only wants to keep her safe and shelter her from both her past and the dangers the world has to offer, and as the God of Duty and Sacrifice, feels that it's his Duty to watch over her. It was undeniable that after a time, a deep connection was formed between them, and now Varian would do anything -- anything -- to keep her safe and happy. He is helplessly, utterly devoted to her, and would go out of her way to ensure that she is comfortable, content, and unplagued by anxiety or fear. Because of the inherent fear Avari feels for all two-leggers, Varian feels as if he's obligated to explain to her how not all humans are so terrible; that in fact, most humans -- especially on the Isle -- are some of the kindest creatures on this world. He wants more than anything to help her at least begin to cope with her compulsive fear for humans; he wants to try, through simply explaining and letting her come to grips with it on her own, that while some men are very bad, others would go out of their way to help Azrein, even those that are Unbonded. While traveling with Avari during their journey from Avari's home, Varian's instinctual need to protect her unfolds and blossoms into something deeper, more intense. He feels like she compliments him perfectly -- where he is strong and protective, she is delicate and careful. Where he is cold and dangerous, she is warm and caring. She is his Little Sparrow, and he will go to any length to make sure she is cared for. Whatever she wants for, he has sworn to himself that he shall provide.

♕xxxD a m i r :xx x x x x↳xxDamir and Varian met several nights after Varian arrived on the Isle beside the Arch erected in memorial of the Fallen. Varian heard Damir praying to his late mother, Daria, and he heard Daria speaking to her son on the Winds. Damir strikes Varian as a sad yet responsible Azrein, and he wants to help Damir get over his grief of his mother's passing.
♕xxxY u n i g o n i :xx x x x x↳xxYunigoni met Varian at the memorial to the Fallen several nights after Varian arrived on the Isle. Varian knew from the memories of his father that Yuni had once loved Valdien, and he wanted to ease her pain derived from the death of his father. He did his best to console her, but was wary because he didn't want her to fall in love with him. As far as he was concerned, Duty was his mate, at least for the present time, and he didn't want to hurt anyone emotionally. Yuni strikes him as a selfless, gentle mare who is saddened by the loss of the Fallen, and who is dedicated to the cause against the Six. He hopes one day to see her happy and to ease her pain, but for the present, he will have to be content with talking to her to bring her out of her regret.
♕xxxR a z i e n :xx x x x x↳xxRazien encountered Varian when he was out on a scouting mission for the Six. However, his intentions were to loose the fetters of his once-allies, and become free of their control. He had planned to use this scouting mission as an opportunity to escape their clutches. Varian was patrolling the areas to the south of the Greater Herd Plains, having heard word from a raven that there were strange Azrein on the roads, most likely those from the Dark Herd. Varian had dropped from the skies, ambushing Razien and blocking his path, and told the young stallion that if he didn't have a good reason for coming north, that he would kill him. Razien explained that he was trying to get away from the Six and wanted to be done with them, and though he sounded sincere, Varian didn't want to take any chances. So he was forced to do the thing he hated most: he had to initiate a Soulgaze. In Razien's mind, he had found that the stallion was telling the truth, and though he had done something unspeakably wrong in his past, he had torn himself up because of it. Varian saw Razien's mental landscape as a tortured, barren stretch of cracked earth, with lush grasses not ten steps from where Razien stood, though no matter how much he tried, Raz could never reach it. After seeing Razien's True Heart, Varian had Breathed life back into the landscape, cutting the ties in Razien's mind with the Six, and transforming the stark land into something wholesome. Though Varian is still wary of Razien, he respects the stallion because of the hard decision he had made, and one day hopes to become a friend and a sort of guide for the Azrein.
