Yunigoni stood in front of the monument for the Fallen, she had lost many good friends and fellow chosen. But the weight that stung her heart was the loss of her beloved Valiant... She hung her head, her closing her eyes in memory of them all, tears gently cascading down her pale cheeks. "FiFi, I miss you, you were kind to me, and kept Vaxia's stinging words at bay, Usei...he misses you also, as does Hero....And Chanti... I hope you're finally at peace now" She said looking up "Without you around, Vincent isn't the same...He left the village, and left Hero...I know if you were here, you wouldn't have allowed that to happen..." She sniffed again, unable to control her tears, especially when she looked upon Valiant's name "I wanted so much to tell you how I felt, Valiant" she sniffed "But I knew I had no chance, you...you were more magnificent in all rights, and I..." she bowed her head again "would never been able to hold myself up even in your shadow... I just hope you all are happier else where.... and maybe someday, if the Fates are kinder, they may give me another chance...." she sobbed softly to herself, pawing at the ground.

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ x The stallion stood several yards behind the white mare, his wings pressed tightly to his flanks, his face expressionless though his heart hurt for this Azrein. His father's name was up there on that marble arch, as were so many who were loved. Blue eyes took in the calm night around him, ensuring that nothing would bring harm to the mare while she grieved. Her heart was paining her enough; it would not do to let a physical body take advantage of her overwhelming distraction. Varian's long elk ears swiveled before flattening against his skull, his nostrils flaring.
No sounds, no smells, no sights.
The night was clear, and he could leave this Shattered mare to her grief. As sad as it was, not only Chosen were Shattered by the Severing of a Bond. The lives the Fallen had touched were all broken or distorted in one way or another, and Varian felt out of place. He knew better than any being on the Isle, perhaps save the King -- whom he had yet to meet -- about the Fallen. For he was, once, one of them. He was born from the heart of his father, the half-soul of the King, and the will of the Good Spirits. He was unlike any other Azrein to have ever lived, and he felt that difference distinctly. Blue eyes closed for a moment, hardening his heart, before he turned to move away from the monument, wanting to give this unicorn space and solitude while still being able to watch over her. Her words stuck too close to his heart, sent a pang through him of his father's memories of the night they all Fell.
The bells on his antlers chimed faintly with each step he took, though he could silent them with a small exertion of Skill -- a talent no other Azrein shared, perhaps a gift from the half of the King's soul, though he didn't know for certain. He silently bade the mare farewell, wished her strength and luck for the days to come, and began to make his way back towards the center of the Greater Herd Plains to resume his patrol.
Tomorrow he would go find the King. But until then, he needed to make sure that everyone was safe. [ [ O O C : ] ] I'm so happy I'm finally RPing again. ; u ;

Yuni turned her head, her eyes still swollen with tears as she started to leave back for the village. She looked up and saw the familiar gold and violet wings and she stopped, blinking several times. "Please let this only be a dream that I wandered into, and not my Eyes and Heart Deceiving me..." She whispered sniffing. She blinked several times to rid her eyes of the tears, before looking again. Her heart sank, she was hoping it was him, but it wasn't, it was someone who looked like him, yet didn't. "I-I-I'm sorry" she sniffed, though she was doubtful he heard her before. "I..." she bowed her head again, still unable to control her tears.

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ x Varian paused mid-step and turned around, tilting his antlered head to the side at seeing the mare's distress. Taking a breath, the stallion strode up to her with sure footsteps, extending his neck to brush his muzzle against her round cheek. He felt the pain coming off of her in waves -- he had a gift of empathy, especially concerning those who had known his father, or those who were touched by deaths of the Fallen. This mare was a double-whammy in that sense, the alpha supposed. Nostrils flaring, Varian took a step back, stretching the muscles in his wings. The feathers ruffled slightly on an errant moonlit breeze, and he turned his proudly-arched neck to glance back at them, a hint of sadness in his clear blue eyes. "You knew my father. I can feel it within my breast." He turned back to look at her, his face a solemn mask. "My name is Varian, son of Valdien. I was born from the sacrifice he made, the will of the Good Spirits, half of the boy-king's soul, and my father's heart." Not wanting to make her uncomfortable, he didn't mention that he knew her name and recognized her from his sire's memories of her. He felt a deep well of sadness and longing fill his heart, no doubt a sensation from the fraction within him that was Valdien. He pulled a wall up in his mind and shut it out so that he could focus solely on easing the mare's distress. "He did not forget you, you know. My father. Nor have any of the Fallen forgotten those they knew in this life." Varian lifted his chin to look up at the blanket of stars across the velvet sky, the wind lifting his long lavender mane and tousling it. "We all -- they all -- watch down on the Isle from the place in the sky where we all go after our spirits leave our bodies." He lowered his head, the golden bells on his antlers chiming, and gave the mare a small, genuine smile. "The Fallen are always with you, always watching over you and listening to your words even if you cannot see nor hear them. Remember that, and do not mourn their death, but rather celebrate their life. That is all they ask for, my Lady." [ [ O O C : ] ] ✖ ❤

Yunigoni trembled when the stallion touched her, realizing she was in a more stronger presence. She took a few steps back, her head bowed not in only in sadness but in shame. A god was before, telling her her loved ones were with her, and that one that he called his father, never forgot her. "I-I'm s-sorry, m-my lord..." she stammered sniffing softly. "I...I w-was n-never w-worthy o-of your father's p-presence... y-you...you remind m-me of him...." she felt ashamed for saying that, and then realized he probably listened to her words and she became even more ashamed. "I-I-I'm s-sorry f-for tr-troubling you, m-my lord, Prince" Prince being the title she gave Val, though mostly to herself. Half heartily believing in the human fairytales and he was her Prince Charming.

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ x The tall stallion tilted his head to the side, clearly worried about her stammering distress. He gaze her a reassuring brush with the primary feathers of his large wing before bumping his shoulder gently against her own, in what he knew from his father's memories to be a comforting gesture. "Walk with me for a while, if you would." Without waiting for a response, something deep within him knowing she would keep pace beside him, the stallion began walking through the light birch woods, moonlight filtering down through the branches to speckle him in striped patterns. His antlers seemed to glow with an otherworldly light, though because the moon was so bright, it could've only been a reflection instead of an otherworldly glow. "Please, you need not apologize to me. You've not offended nor inconvenienced, so please try to just take some deep breaths and enjoy the cool night." He glanced down at her with bright blue eyes, though he looked away quickly, not wanting to initiate a Soulgaze. That was something that neither of them could handle right now. "And everyone was on equal terms with my father, Yuni. He was just the same as any of us Azrein, only he was the first to set hooves on the Isle for three span of centuries. And he felt his Call, as I feel now, to the boy King, and he decided to Choose young Azreth." The stallion hardly made a sound walking through the leaves and detritus littering the ground in the small copse, due to the pads on the bottoms of his cloven hooves. He partly extended a wing so that just the tips of his primaries rested on the curve of the mare's back, giving her what solace he could. "And you don't need to refer to me with a title. It would please me if you would be at ease around me, my lady, and call me by the name the Good Spirits and my father gave me." He turned his neck to glance down at her, bells chiming, and when he caught her eyes he smiled, though once again, he looked away after only a few seconds passed. [ [ O O C : ] ] ✖ ❤

Indeed she did follow, and listened to his words, and when he put her wing on her, she couldn't help but shudder a little. It wasn't from uneasiness, it was from the memories of how Val use to do so to her when they walked together. She couldn't help but watch him from the corner of her eye, afraid to look at him directly, even though he said she was no inconvenience to him. "Yes...I'm sorry Varian..." she murmured softly. She then caught his gaze before he looked away, and never saw eyes like his before. It was almost like looking into the clear skies as had often done, watching Val from afar. She too looked away, continuing on in silence, though a slight warmth touched her cheeks.

He allowed his arched neck to relax, hoping seeing him less...noble-looking, looking less like his father, might put her at ease. "If my memory serves me correctly. It's perhaps five minutes to the north of us, my Lady, and I'm sure we would both enjoy a long drink." Once again, he glanced down at her, offering a slight smile before returning his gaze to the meandering path before them. "A cool drink would be nice," Yuni replied softly. She looked at the stallion, watching him relax a little more, and that made her feel more at ease, though she didn't know why. But when asked to tell more about his father, she blushed a little. "There isn't much I can really say....Only his voice had a way to calm whatever tension was in the room, and when he flew.... it was as if he flew with little effort..." She looked up at the sky, half expecting to see him glide over head. "sometimes it seemed like he had no wings at all, and he was galloping upon some magic pathway made of clouds, sunshine, or even stars...In every way, when I had a chance to be around him, he spoke to me with gentle words, though I'm sure he spoke to many mares like that," she sighed. "Even if I had the courage to tell him everything in my heart, it wouldn't have mattered... I've seen more beautiful mares walk and talk with him, even better looking stallions, though I'm sure he was not that way...." When they reached the stream she bent down and took a good long drink, before lifting her head a little and looking at her reflection. "Your father was kind enough to make me believe, even for a short moment in his presence, that I was just as beautiful, as the other mares... and forgive me, but I would then think of him as mine for that short time, even though it was never true..."

He savored the freshness of the river, felt the life swirling and dancing in its currents. He Felt the lives of all the creatures within it, happy in the path Lady Fate had chosen for them. He felt the energies course through him and back out him once again as he lifted his head from the running water, giving his ears a shake.
"My father believed not on the aesthetic beauty, Yunigoni, but of the beauty of the soul. He looked past the flesh and into the very heart of those he knew, just as I have been tasked with doing. Valdien knew that even the prettiest mare could be filled with bitterness, and so he chose not to base his opinions by mere looks alone," The stallion flicked his tail, feathers within it gliding down gently. "I know he found your soul more beautiful than he could put words to."

She listened to the stallions words, though she was surprised she believed them she still doubted the last part. "He probably thought that about a lot of mares..." she said softly "though I appreciate the gesture..." she sighed. "As the fates would have it, it just was not meant to be..." She started to walk away a little bit before stopping again "I doubt there is someone for me, just like my chosen, she was mated and happy, but when they both lost their chosen, her mate left her... and she too doubts she will find another." she sighed again shaking her head a little "and it pains me to see her suffering, and feel it at the same time... she has been through so much...I wish there was something I could do for her. I have noticed that the foals that are in our village makes her smile, but I can't give her any of my own..." she bowed her head "so many things, aside from most and when it comes down to it, I'm useless in every sense"

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ x Varian frowned slightly at the mare's words. No one was useless, no matter who they were. And everyone was torn up with grief and guilt from the death of the Fallen, and each person -- or Azrein -- dealt with it in their own way.
"Yuni, everyone deals with grief differently. And do not ever call yourself useless in my presence again. The Gods made us who we are for a reason, and the Good Spirits gave us faults and merits to excel at what we do. You are young yet, and you will find someone who was meant for you, my lady. My father knew that he had come to this earth for two reasons." Varian paused, closing his eyes at the pain he felt for Valdien. "To save a young King from throwing himself off the edge of the Isle due to his father's death, and then to die for that same King and all the souls on this Isle, so that they might live to win this war. Valdien knew that he was going to leave this world before he had a chance to grow old, which is why though he longed to have a lifemate and have children, he never allowed himself to do so."
The stallion sighed, extending a wing to brush the mare's cheek with the tips of his primaries. "You will find one you love, and your Chosen's life is not as dreary as it may seem right now. When the scars of the heart are given time, things will work out"

Again she couldn't help but shudder when he touched her, feeling yet again like a scullery maid before a king, except, it wasn't a king now... now was a god. She watched him with wondering eyes, just looking at him made her miss Valdian even more. And it didn't make her feel any better being told that even if he did feel the same way, there would have been no chance with him all.
"And what about you, Varian? Are your goals the same as your fathers?" She asked, unable to contain the question any further.

He lowered his head once more to the water, taking another long drink of both the cool liquid and the life within. He closed blue eyes, framing his response.
"There is a mare that I have found for whom I long for nothing more than to protect. However, as my father before me, I have a duty. I cannot allow myself to love, for fear that she might be used against me by my soon-to-be enemies." It was only a matter of time until the Six learned of him. He tried not to wince at the thought. The pain they had inflicted upon his father, the torture he had gone through . . .
The Torment within him flared to life as his mental walls crumbled. The stallion fell to his knees, gasping in a breath, smelling iron and feeling a wetness on his nostrils. The acrid tang of blood assaulted his senses, and with a wrench of his Will, Varian flung his mental barriers back up, panting as he knelt on the ground. "I would not wish on anyone what my father went through."

Yunigoni's heart sank a little when she heard that, though she really didn't know why, she had just met him, and the only slightest thing they had in common was the fact she knew his father, and she understood duty and sacrifice, because her chosen did those in her service for the King. She now felt out of place again and was about to say goodnight when he fell to his knees. "Varian!" She said going over to and kneeling next to him, she was full of concern and worry seeing the torment in his expression, even though he squeezed his eyes shut. Hesitantly she put her head under his, letting him lean on her as he knelt. "Here, lean on me..."
