Umi took one of the rocks and took a quick taste of it. Wasn't much taste wise but... if cooked right they might just add a nice flavor.
She went back to where she saw the rocks and started to bag more rocks.
She looked down at the at the list of ingredients seeing that it was a short list and adding the same ingredient wouldn't hurt.

With one ingredient down off of the list, Alex was feeling fairly confident that this was going to be the easiest task he had been set to yet. Who knew more about finding food then a zombie, after all? Setting the jar of murky water down at his feet, Alex reached back to dig the rumpled and dirty list from his back poket, pulling it out and smoothing it down to squint at the barely legible scrawl.

Something on the list stuck out to him more then anything else. Edible rocks? What the jack was an edible rock? How on Halloween could a rock possibly be edible?? Shaking his head, his mop of soft white and black hair tousling even more so, he shoved the paper back into his pocket and peered around, forhead wrinkled in a frown.

Well, there were some rocks just over there, but they certainly didn't look like something Alex would ever consider food. He shuffled off towards them in any case, bending down once he was near enough to do so and lifting one up. Some long, strange insect with what looked to be a million legs darted down a hole beneath the rock when Alex exposed it to the light of day, and the zomboil shuddered a little.

So many legs. So unnatural.

The rock itself felt like a normal rock. It wasn't soft or squishy in any way, and it was colored no differently then any other rock he could see lying around. Were all rocks in famine edible? Possibly. How was the zomboil to know? Lifting it up to his nose, he took a small sniff, breathing in it's aroma and testing it's scent to see if it might at least smell edible.

It...actually smelt quite a bit like he imagined a rock aught to smell like. Earthy and damp, and possibly faintly metallic. Well, whatever, a rock was a rock and if this one was edible, so be it. He gathered up several, depositing whatever he could fit into his front pockets.

Ingrediant: Murky Water, Edible Rocks.

Umi moved on in her searching. She already had enough Edible rocks and wanted to find another ingredient that was just right. Looking around the area she saw that there was a lot of sand rats running around. Umi wasn't the sort of person who would kill an innocent animal. But truth be told she didn't like rodents at all and didn't see why the world needed them.

She screamed when one ran across her foot. Shaking she took her umberlla and started to whack at the rat until it died. Picking it up she threw it in the bag.

With rocks acquired, Alexander suddenly realized that he had left his jar of water still sitting near the bank of the oasis, and was forced to turn back to go and get it. His feet squelched in the muddy sand of the bank, leaving the imprint of both regular and skeletal foot prints behind him as he trudged his way back to the glass jar. Upon his arrival, there were suddenly several strange looking creatures walking along the shore towards him. They looked almost reptile like, and he raised his eyebrows, wondering what they might be doing and of course, instantly worried that they might breathe fire.

With this thought firmly in mind, Alex hurriedly bent down to retrieve his glass jar, then straightening up to begin backing away from the creatures that were glaring towards him balefully, as though he had just done something to piss them all off.

Suddenly a thought struck him. Were these the Salamanders that were listed on the piece of paper that was handed to him? It was highly possible, and not improbable, so he stopped his backing away, and watched them curiously as they continued to waddle towards him. He was still feeling fairly apprehensive, but at least they were moving at a ridiculously slow pace, one that even the zomboil could out maneuver (or at least, that's what he told himself). But what could he use to try and capture them with? That was the real question of the moment, and only one thing popped into Alex's mind, though he could almost hear the lecture he might be getting from Yin if the weremantis were here to witness what he was about to do.

Bending down, Alex unsnapped one of the bones from his lower left leg, which really rendered the entire thing quite useless but he was confident he could hop/drag it behind him and possibly still get away from the salamanders if things turned dangerous. Again, he was reminded of Yin, and the promise he had made to the other boil about how he would not take any unnecessary risks, or put himself in any dangerous situations that he could avoid.

Well....Yin wasn't here, and what he didn't know, couldn't hurt him! With a grim smile, Alex awaited the oncoming swarm, armed and ready to take them down. Well, at least, take two of them down, since he figured that would be enough to meet his quota.

Luckily enough, they only came at him one at a time, and it was a simple matter of bashing each one on the head before it could get too close. Scooping them up, he quickly reattached the bone in his leg and began to back away, a sense of elation at managing to get three of the items on his list so easily filling the zomboil as he made his way back towards the pit.

Once he had managed to hobble towards the edge, he sat down, this time opting to slide to the bottom on his own terms. The sand flew up into his face as he skidded to a halt near the bottom, and he was forced to put down his things to shake out his hair and wipe down his clothes before gathering them up to place in the storage area.

With his task completed, Alex saluted the teacher, who once again appeared to be nothing more then a pile of rags on the ground. Positive that she likely did not even see him, he made his slow and arduous climb back up the pit, eager to get back inside and out of the jack blasted heat.

The last piece was not as impressive. Flowers? Really? Well she supposed ti had to be done. She shoved the flowers in the bag with the rest ofher stuff, then left it in the cave in the crater wall.

Well then. There. She'd come to the first day on time this time! Yahoo!

Hamika told the teacher goodbye and skipped off back to the dorms.

Sheridan eyed the rat he had caught with a snort of distaste. It wasn't that he minded killed for food, or that he had any objections to eating animals or those that were whole and/or raw (he ate fish that way often), it was the fact that it had fur. He really didn't like eating things with fur. Maybe he wouldn't have to eat whatever it was he was meant to cook with this...

Shoving the rat in his bag (what you thought he was going to put it in his -pocket-? Jack no), he walked onward, searching the desert sands for the next ingredient on the list. He scanned down the list as he walked, stopping in his steps as his eyes fell on the unexpected ingredient of rocks. Rocks? Really? Who ate rocks? He supposed they may have contained certain minerals, but how on earth did one get the minerals -out- of the rocks?

Shaking his head, he bent down to get a closer look at the sands under his feet. He spotted several rocks a few paces away, they didn't seem especially unusual, not much different from the surrounding sands. Maybe he just didn't see it

He had picked up several of the rocks, placing them in his bag along with the sand rat. He still wasn't sure about this, what were they meant to do with these ingredients? It was more like a list for a witch's brew than one for a recipe.

Wait, were those tracks? He recognized those tracks, he had seen them only a few moments before. Again he crouched, one hand resting on the ground, his tail twitching lightly as he sniffed the air around the tracks. Hmm, where are you little rat?

A step forward, ah, there you are. He froze, perfectly still save for the twitch of his tail. A silent growl, then he lunged, reaching out to catch the rat in one hand, diving, then a single roll over the sands before landing on his feet again. Gotcha!

The second rat (and third ingredient) secured, Sheridan returned to the crater, shooting a quizzical glance at the instructor as he walked past. So, they were to leave the items they found here in this little cavern? Judging from the others left there he gathered as much was the case.

A shrug, he took the bag containing the rocks and both rats from his shoulder and set it in the shelter of the cavern. He supposed he'd have to wait to find out just what they were going to do with those...

This was indeed different from War, very different. Holly waited and stood as the rest of the other students gathered. The ghoul scoffed softly as the teacher spoke. Cooking with famine, um what? That had to be some kind of joke. What would they be cooking exactly. She spoke soundly though, never trust others, especially if you lived in a desolate place like this.

So they just had to collect ingredients? Shouldn't be terribly hard at all. Holly studied the paper before going off.

So off she went to wander around a desert to find ingredients to make food. Sure she didn't need to eat like the teacher had mentioned but it was good to know this kind of stuff. After a few minutes she came across a small oasis. There seemed to be a small group of salamanders there. Holly approached them, they snapped angrily at her. So she waited and studied them for a moment. Eventually she was able to pick off one of the slower ones. Holly received a very angry salamander.

After gathering her first ingredient Holly studied the paper. What next? Hm. She decided to start heading east. What else does food need, she had a meat so maybe something green to go with it. Green stuff was healthy right? Okay, things here weren't really the green she was thinking of but it was close enough. Soon she found herself upon some forked spiky plant. Carefully she plucked off some of the creeping spines. Sure, that worked.

The Isle of Conquest was an oddity. But believable, and she could relate to it. She was used to the buildings, how arrogant and puffed-up the clansmen were. But here? Qlue craned her head around, trying to make sense of the lack of civilization around her. It was so dry, so dusty and barren that it reminded her strongly of home.

Except then the teacher spoke and handed them a paper. Qlue stared blankly at it. "Did she just say craft a meal?" She muttered, more to herself than anyone nearby.

Upon being dismissed, Qlue shook her head and lashed her tail, sulking before departing to forage.

Quote:

3:
Sand Rats
Did you just see something moving out of the corner of your eye? It was probably a sand rat. If you're quick, smart, or both, you can easily find a way to catch one.

The warmth and barren landscape soon settled Qlue's nerves, placing her into a pleased state of mind. She was even more pleased when she noticed a sand rat that had not yet noticed her.

One pounced and a quick bash later, and Qlue acquired her first ingredient.

Cooking on the Isle of Famine? There was a certain appealing balance to that. Luidaeg was glad to find anything appealing in this dry place. He'd been hopeful when they'd entered through a damp cavern, but he supposed he shouldn't be surprised that famine would turn out to be a desert island.
He took his ingredients list, peering at the unsheltered area outside the small crater with distaste. It was windy. Dry wind. It was wrecking havoc with his skin, adapted for aquatic life. He would have to moisturize like mad when he got back to the dorm...
With a sigh, he went to look for his first ingredient. He walked to a small oasis, grateful for what little shelter the stunted trees offered from the stinging winds. Here he planned to gather his first ingredient: water. In the middle of the oasis was a small spring of water so clear he could almost count the rocks beneath it. He could also count the salamanders - lots of salamanders - that were scattered around the oasis, as if guarding the spring. Deciding caution was the better option, Luidaeg took some of the murky water from the edge of the oasis rather than braving the hoard of salamanders for the cleaner stuff. He was used to less-than-pure water, and presumably they'd be heating it at some point, so it should be fine, right?

And then Holly decided to wander for a bit. She couldn't find any of the other things listed on the list. Well she didn't want to get more salamanders because the entire balance of her eventual dish would be off. She needed one more thing. So the ghoul wandered around and eventually came upon a grouping of rocks. Now rocks she couldn't use at all for the dish. Ew. That would seriously be disgusting. Nor not very edible.

Luckily near the rocks she found a cluster of wasteland flowers and decided that was a decent enough ingredient. Holly took her three items back to where the teacher was and stored them for the following day. Now to explore some more.

One down, two to go. Qlue absently twirled her sand rat by the tail, oblivious to any glances of disgust thrown her way as she did so. She began to whistle to herself as she twirled it around and around in one hand, keeping a tight grip.

Quote:
4:
Edible Rocks
They might not be the tastiest items, but these rocks leach essential nutrients when soaked in liquid.

And then she slipped and fell on her tail. Qlue uttered a yowl of protest and proceeded to curse at the top of her lungs, coming very close to drop-kicking the sand-rat she acquired in protest before settling for kicking some rocks instead. After she felt satisfied with taking her anger out on the surrounding area, Qlue pocketed some rocks for later. Maybe she could find something to throw them at.

Having gathered the water, even if it was a bit... less than pristine, Luidaeg headed to a promising location for his second ingredient. Creeping spines... supposedly they could be found on the large succulents, of which he could see a cluster slightly to the east of the oasis where he'd gotten his water. They were actually the most edible looking thing around, other than a few odd animals, and he plucked a few particularly ripe looking spines; or at least the ones that looked what he thought ripe spines might look like. He was really more of a seaweed kind of guy.

Angenora was ready for the her second week of classes with the four clans. she had signed up with the Death clan the week before, but now it was time for Famine. It seemed fitting since she was already dead and didn't require to eat much at all. She entered the class area only to see that the pile of debris was really their professor, a horseman of Famine. "Cooking?" She questioned then realized that horseman must be living or have to eat when they can. She took the sheet of paper with a list of items that could be brought back to the professor. She nodded then headed off to find something close by. "Wasteland flowers? Wonder what they look like?" She said as she stopped in a little spot to dig up some. "Got one!" she said as she held it in her free hand.
