Since two heads were better than one, and it was in the same direction, Nolan came up on the rendezvous spot he had planned with Kiera. And was plesantly surprised to see that she was already there with all of her pokemon, plus one new one, and Nolan's Nincada to boot. (Not knowing that Nincada probably has had enough already of boots.) He breathed a sigh of relief. Considering all the bad things that had been happening within the past day and a half, he was having a wonderful streak of luck following right in disaster's wake.

He's caught a new pokemon, met a trainer that told him of the Academy, and now had no problem at all meeting up with his too-optimistic friend who had already found his Nincada. And lunch had been served. Yes, Nolan breathed deep and found that relief, plopping down on the grass near Kiera.
"Sorry that I'm late. It's a ... long story, but how did things go for you? I see you caught ... err, something."
What a weird looking pokemon Whismur was.

Wincing from the noise, Nolan clapped his palms over his ears a second after that Whismur started to make such a dreadful racket. Honor and Valor buried their heads under their paws, whining, and for that matter, none of Nolan's pokemon liked the noise. He could only imagine how bad it would be if Whismur was aimed at them. Nolan shuddered at the thought. He was about to reach for the pokeballs to recall the poor cubs, the poor bug, and the poor snake, but then Whismur ran out of juice, going silent again.
"That was ... uh, you don't have to do that again. All I really did was run into some pokemon, and um, another trainer. He gave me some advice, and then I came back here looking for Nincada."

The Uproar, although, did knock a weak little Sunkern out of its tree. Dazed, it floated down a little too quickly and bounced on the ground, already knocked out from Whismur's assault on its eardrums. Or on whatever passed for ears on the little seed. Snivy, seeing a fellow Grass pokemon in need, slid out from the bag and trotted up to Sunkern. Nolan just watched for the time, curious, and ate a few bites from his sandwich. Snivy couldn't do too much but she did offer the Sunkern a safe place to recover, the Grass Snake guarding over it.

While Kiera was talking about shiny pokemon, yet another dazed Sunkern dropped from the tree, floating downwards. Nolan hoped there wasn't an entire army of Seed pokemon hidden behind those leaves, because that was going to be a lot of knocked out pokemon. Snivy went over to the new Seed and rolled it over where the first already lay. Before when Nolan had beaten Kiera in a battle and without too much trouble, yet now he was beginning to doubt the re-match would swing in his favor. That Whismur was a monster in a tiny pink body. Who would have thought it was packing such a powerful move?

Considering what that Uproar would do to his pokemon, Nolan lost his appetite, looking a little pale. After the sandwich he didn't want anything else to eat, and now just waited while the pokemon finished their lunches. Trying not to make things suddenly awkward, Nolan just said the first thing that popped into his head,
"Yeah, she really is a great pokemon."
Snivy heard that one, and her brown eyes snapped onto Nolan, that attempt not to make things weird backfiring horribly. It was just that he had left that statement so vague that none of the pokemon really knew which one Nolan was talking about - Snivy or Eevee. Nolan switched to another subject rather quickly after that leer from Snivy,
"Are you sure that blue Yanma even exist? I've never heard of one being a different color than red."
Yanma was just one of those few rare pokemon from the regions outsides of Kanto that Nolan had come across once. Now that was a big bug.

(( Well ... I rolled a 97. BUT FOR THE ABILITY. If I catch the shiny Yanma, I'll just trade it to you, okay?

I'll PM you too once I figure out what you can catch for me in exchange. Unless you want to trade your ... Eeeeeeeevee? Just kidding, but no really, Eevee? But no. ))



It was becoming very, very worrisome when yet another Sunkern bounced against the ground, yet at least this one still had some energy left in it. It teetered a little bit before it got its bearings, however, seeing its fellows all in a dazed heap, it leaped over to join them. Both Snivy and Nolan sighed in what was exasperation, and yet neither of them looked at each other once they realized that sigh had been in tandem. They would just pretend that didn't happen. Right.
"Kiera, let's not let your Whismur randomly use an attack anymore? Just to be safe."

Putting down his bag and taking off his long coat, Nolan sized up the tree that all the Sunkern were falling out of. Reaching for a low hanging branch, he pulled himself up once he got purchase on the rough bark, and he started to climb. And what did he see? The tree was infested with the Seed pokemon, and Nolan couldn't readily tell the difference between the knocked out ones and those that were just hiding. Moving up higher in the tree, he disturbed a few Sunkern and they bounced up to the crown of the leaves. Yet that didn't make his chore any easier either.

Getting an idea, Nolan climbed back down and studied all the pokemon gathered there with the two trainers.
"Well ... we don't really have any heavy hitters yet. Nincada has the most armor, although he scratches. But if you time your pokemon's tackles with mine, we can just shake the whole tree. When the Sunkern fall out, we can sort them by which ones are dazed, and the healthy ones will just jump off. Sounds good?"

Still a lot of Sunkern. Raining Sunkern! Kiera laughed and dodged the falling pokemon. It was a good thing they were all really little and light or it could hurt if one landed on anybody. Kiera caught one and put it down on the ground. "I'm sorry Sunkern. I didn't mean for anyone to get hurt. A Sunflora would make a very cute pokemon. I hope you all evolve soon someday."

Kiera stood up and bumped her head on something blue. "Ouchies." Her poor head was getting all kinds of bruises but she forgot all about it when she saw what she had bumped into. "A shiny Yanma! Look Nolan! I can't believe it!" She shrieked. The Yanma sweatdropped and was sorry for getting too close that she bonked her head on it. "Yanma would you please join my team? Pretty please?"

Nolan stood in stunned silence after Kiera had headbutted the tree right along with the rest of the pokemon. This girl was a special kind of crazy. Trying to cover up the weird look he was giving the other trainer, Nolan glanced away while he scratched the back of his head. But all the Sunkern provided a horrible distraction as they kept piling up. This could be bad, and Nolan became more and more worried with each Seed that didn't bounce away feeling fine. 'I hope we don't need to take all of these to a pokemon center ...'

Snivy yanked on the hem of Nolan's pants, making him scramble to hold his belt to keep his pants from being pulled right down. The Grass Snake snickered to herself, but she also pointed to get Nolan's attention - pointing right at the blue-colored Yanma that Kiera was just then talking to.
"Oh wow ... that's amazing. I thought pokemon only came in their original colors."
But now that he was thinking about it, Nolan did remember that strange all-green Hoppip he came across before. Should he have caught it or something? It was too late now to kick himself for passing up such a great opportunity.

Nolan hurriedly got to one side when the battle began, calling his pokemon out of the area as well, and taking as many Sunkern as he could carry with him. However, by the time he was just about at what he judged to be a safe distance, Kiera had already captured the shiny Yanma, ... and she was dancing. Now it was Nolan's turn to try to stifle his laughter. Clearing his throat, instead he wanted to congratulate her as well,
"You made that look really easy. And ... well, I'm glad it didn't take too long. We'll probably just have barely enough time to get to Blyse before it starts to get dark. I really, really don't want to spend another night outside, so let's get going?"

From the long journey of newbiehood

Back on route three then. Or at least on the western side if the map he kept was correct. He looked around the area. He'd have to fan out the area he guessed. So that's what he did. Walking around he met ...
