Character: Genevieve Ame
Link to Character's Journal: Linky
Part the Character is Auditioning for: Queen Guinevere (duhn duhn duhhhnnn)
A short 100-250 word solo about their audition:
A younger Genevieve would have auditioned for a smaller part. A younger Genevieve would have been content with the ever important, mysterious, and least speaking Lady Nineve. A younger Genevieve would have been content with that- But not this time. This time she had every intent of going for the lead, the gold, for going after Guinevere. It would be the defining moment in her high school career and she was not going to let it go without a mother of a fight.
Checking herself in a backstage mirror, she smiled confidently to herself. She looked perfect. Her hair was piled on top of her head, her natural curls framing her face; and for her chosen monologue she'd chosen a dress in royal jewel tones and gold. She was ready and it was her turn.
Stepping off onto the stage she waggled her fingers at Ms. Rosen and without any further introduction started; her hands clenched at her chest in agony:

Am I so weak that every random word
Can shake my heart? When Arthur said but now
"It is some cause of love bids Lancelot go,"
I trembled like a thief that's trapped at night.
For, in his god-like gaze, I thought I saw
The searching eyes of God; piercing my soul
Where lurks the shameful secret of my love
That none must know. Ah me, if Lancelot knew!
How he would spurn me! But he shall not know,
Wherefore 'twere better he should go away;
For while he was away, within my heart
His image dwelt securely, like a star
Hung high above me in a stainless sky--
A lamp illumined with a fireless flame
That wrought no ill,--but now, when he is by,
The light grows blinding, and its fiercer rays
Consume my very soul.

Her voice rose and fell as though she were talking to herself and lost in thought. At the end of her the last line Genevieve's head was bent and her arms wrapped about her waist as though hugging herself to keep the emotion in. It wasn't the longest of Carr's Guinevere scenes but it was perfect.
If this didn't win her the role then she was positive nothing would.

Part the Character is Auditioning for: Sir Gawain
A short 100-250 word solo about their audition:

It was in English class that a flyer was reviewed for the students as a (for many involuntary) community service. Most likely, from Hillworth, they would be stage hands. He liked the idea. Pulling around set pieces, hauling ropes, moving heavy things were his entire specialty.

It seemed silly not to at least try for a part. He was tall, long haired, broad enough for real armor, and felt he looked handsome enough for a set-piece role. Like The 13th Warrior! He'd spent all week at the library, to find an appropriate manuscript, one with rhyming so he could memorize it easier. One with meter, so that his natural accent would make it sound really awesome.

Once his turn came, he mounted the stage with no fear. An audience of judges was pretty normal to any aspect of his extracurricular life. A week for 11 lines of text, but with roommate’s help he’d done it!
“My name is Björn Guildson, from Hillworth. I try for Sir Gawain, but if you can use me somewhere else, you know best.”

He held up a large hand, as if beseeching quiet of others unseen,
"Of my deede I was never feard,
Nor yett I am nothing adread,
I swere by Saint Michaell!”

"For when draweth toward my day,
I will dresse me in mine array
My promise to fulfill.”

“Sir, as I have blis,
I wott not where the Greene Chappell is:
Therfore, seeke itt I will!"

Character: Johnathan Miller

Part the Character is Auditioning for: Sir Galahad!
A short 100-250 word solo about their audition:

Johnny had seen the flier. He'd heard kids talking about it - drama! Excitement! Time on the stage! THE SPOTLIGHT! The blue haired boy recalled his parents telling him he was entirely too dramatic (and for some reason, this was a bad thing). He did not understand why they didn't simply accept him the way he was! But now, look, HARK says he, there was a place for him! Johnny had ripped the flier from the post and ran himself home to gather up the one costume that wasn't ninja themed - a monk!

Okay, so, a monk wasn't exactly what King Arthur was looking for, but in Johnny's mind, it was close enough. A few other props he'd stolen from his mother completed the look. Once his name was called, the boy shuffled on stage in his brown monk's robe, nearly fell three times, and stopped a little off center. Oh yes, he had to introduce himself!

"HI! I'm Johnathan Miller but please call me Johnny I go to Azure Valley and I'm auditionating to be Sir Galahad!" Hand in the air, serious face, dramatic pose! Johnny cleared his throat and recited what he'd managed to memorize, which wasn't much.

"My good blade carves the casques of men,
My tough lance thrusteth sure,
My strength is as the strength of ten,
Because my heart is pure!"

He slipped a hand up into his robe and turned on his mother's pink, heart-shaped keychain, which shone through the thin fabric of the robe. Johnny thought it was dramatic! It was dramatic, right? Shuffling on, he spat out what was left of his short monologue, little pink glowing light swaying around in his robe.

"The shattering trumpet shrilleth high,
The hard brands shiver on the steel,
The splinter'd spear-shafts crack and fly,
The horse and rider reel!"

Lots of overly dramatic points and poses and sighs later, Johnny bowed, thanked the audience and fell down as he exited the stage. "I'M OKAY!" he shouted back.

Character: Flannery Spicer

Part the Character is Auditioning for: King Arthur
A short 100-250 word solo about their audition:

Flannery had immediately decided, upon spotting the flyer for open auditions for "King Arthur" at Crystal Academy that the Arthurian mythos was in desperate need of a piratical retelling. She also decided that she was just the person for this job. And what better way to display her well polished Pirate King act than developing the role of Pirate King Arthur? It was a perfect opportunity.

"My name is Flannery Spicer," she told the person with a clipboard. "I'm 17, and I go to HITS. For my audition for King Arthur, I'll be performing a section from The Pirates of Penzance." She didn't need to go over her audition piece; she already knew it by heart.

"Well, it's the top of the tide, and we must be off. Farewell, Frederic. When your process of extermination begins, let our deaths be as swift and painless as you can conveniently make them." It was important to deliver this with good humor. She even gave the judges a little wave, like she really was leaving.

"I will! By the love I have for you, I swear it! Would that you could render this extermination unnecessary by accompanying me back to civilization!" Frederic's one line was performed by her tape recorder; she'd recorded herself saying it the night before.

"No, Frederic, it cannot be," Flannery told her tape recorder firmly. "I don't think much of our profession, but, contrasted with respectability, it is comparatively honest. No, Frederic, I shall live and die a Pirate King."

And then she sang a verse of the song just to show off her singing voice. Her ability to sing was an asset, after all.

Character: Ainsley McMahon
Link to Character's Journal: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=20698427
Part the Character is Auditioning for: As I assume all of the characters listed are big roles I will just leave this up in the air and let ZaiaFantasy work it out.
A short 100-250 word solo about their audition:

Ainsley had tagged along with her sister Bell and after watching her and several other people audition so wonderfully even the child felt compelled to follow suite. She didn't know much about acting through and unlike everyone else who had lines rehearsed for their audition, Ainsley was left in the dark. She was at her end's length at what to do so she did the only thing she could think of. She walked right up onto the stage, curtsied to everyone and then folded her hands over her lap.

"My name is Ainsley McMahon! Thank you for your time!"

The child wasn't sure what part she could play, but she wanted to try. The child looked around anxiously before a soft sound began to flow from her lips. It was hard to hear at first but slowly, as if the sound was being turned up, her voice got louder:

Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast

Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast

She'd remembered the entire song but many parts had been hard to hear. It was a nice voice, but even though she'd gotten louder it still wasn't very loud overall. The more she felt people looking at her, the lower her voice would get and then when she felt more comfortable it would get louder again. It was generally a soft song but perhaps that had been too much. Stagestruck, she lingered on the stage much like she'd been in a daze after she'd finished before finally fleeing off the stage, blush quite prominent on her face.

(( Without the cut and paste lyrics it is under 250 so I hope that's fine. n_n If not, we can just say she sang a song. ))

Part the Character is Auditioning for: Peter really wants to be King Arthur.
A short 100-250 word solo about their audition:

A child pushed back one of the curtains, striding confidently on stage. He had a plastic sword in one hand, a black cape and Darth Vader mask hiding his identity, and a set of fluffy white angel wings on his back. He’d used them just a few weeks ago as the angel Gabriel in his church’s nativity play. His voice, when he spoke, was spirited, his words carefully annunciated to make sure he was heard effectively through the mask.

He paused for a beat at center-stage, and then launched into the monologue of his own devising:

“The Lady of the Lake held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. That is why I am your king! And I say to you: A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’ve made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! This day we fight! And I will make them pay for what they’ve done! Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy!”

When Peter finished, his free hand lifted triumphantly into the air. Then he bowed dramatically, his too-big mask sliding off onto the stage with a clatter as he did so. He quickly scrambled to pick it up, and dashed off with a laugh.

Part the Character is Auditioning for: Merlin (edited to just one sorry but I'm still flexible) <3

“I’m Zac, I just got a scholarship to go to DCU, I’ve never done acting before but I had a ‘friend’ convince me that I should try out for a part.” He hesitated a moment glancing from the faces waiting to audition to those whom he was auditioning to. I’m auditioning for Merlin, but I’m alright playing someone else if you need.”

He took a deep breath and shifted his feet, lifting his head up to a studious and watchful poise. “The best thing for being sad, is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honor trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing, which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, and never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.”

He hesitated realizing he’d spoken overlong for the short quote then had been intended to give, his shoulders settled and glanced again at the others auditioning the confidence being boxed away at the end of the quotation before he nodded his thanks and slipped off stage.

Character: Daphne Proudmoore

Part the Character is Auditioning for: Queen Guenivere

A short 100-250 word solo about their audition: Daphne could not believe she was doing this again. Hadn't she said she wasn't ever going to do something this absolutely stupid again? That ridiculous play that Nealite had written, then cast her as the embodiment of Beryl in against Hematite...well. Mistakes were made that was very clear from the beginning.

But this wasn't Barren Pines. Tony was involved, had urged her towards it, and he was as noble towards the cause as they came. Then she'd found out that both Kess and Zac were throwing themselves at it like kids in a candy store. Oh God she must have been out of her mind to make that comparison! She hated kids in candy stores. Nonetheless she was there, hair brushed, part memorized, in a white skirt sweeping her ankles and a soft cashmere cowled sweater in lavender. All in all looking quite the innocent lady...though she wasn't.

Somehow she thought the symbolism was fitting.

Flexing her hands at her sides the bluenette stood proudly front and center. "Hello, I'm Daphne Proudmoore and I'm auditioning for the part of Guenivere. I'm not sure if you care but I figure I should say why this part. I guess it always pulled at me that she was forced to marry a man she didn't love, then was vilified for being with the one she did." Oh yeah, she could identify with that one.

Calmly, almost defiantly, she read a scene where the queen declared her love for the noblest knight on Earth. Smiling at the end she thanked the people in the shadowy auditorium, whose faces she couldn't see, resisting barely the urge to run offstage.

Daphne didn't think she would get the part but hey. Now she could at least tell all her friends she tried.

Character: Alexandre Evans
Link to Character's Journal: X
Part the Character is Auditioning for: Mordred
A short 100-250 word solo about their audition: How was it that he came to be here? Oh right, Gently and Kyndall tag teamed him. He should have hid, somewhere at home, after the Gala and hearing Kyndall mention the play. He hadn't known that Kyndall was friends with Gently, who'd already once gotten him on stage, or he would have hidden. It was that duo which had gotten him here and onto the stage, even as he wondered how much of an idiot he'd look like soon enough. He was no actor, he knew it and Gently surely knew it! She'd seen him on stage, he didn't know what made her or Kyndall think he was or would be any good on stage.

To add to it he'd had little time to get an idea for who to try for, the idea had come by watching everyone else really. Not to mention he thought it might be a shock who he'd picked to go for, he was even hoping it'd be a shock.

Finally it seemed to be his turn, he'd been stalling as long as he could, and finally took to the stage. Blond hair was swept from his face, tucked behind his ears, as he spoke. "I'm Alexandre Evans, I'll be the first to admit to not being an actor but I've been persuaded to try for a part." The sarcasm just dripped from his words as he spoke. The script he had in his hand, he hadn't time to memorize a thing, was looked at as he read from it with as much drama as he could - not too shabby really.

"I fear, yet know not what--his loyal love
Twines around Arthur like a coil of steel
That turns the keenest edge. Yea, well I know
That while Sir Lancelot stays, the King is safe."

He had tried his best, glad that he at least knew the legends of Aurthur, he knew the story well enough to know about the character he'd picked so tried to work the personality and voice just right even as a voice inside his head screamed at him that he was making a fool of himself. When he finished the short few lines he looked out to the audience, of which he couldn't see much, and spoke once more.

"I'm trying for the part of Mordread."

That said Alexandre hurried back stage, hoping to hide there for a while before he joined the audience and more importantly Gently and Kyndall.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 22, 2012 4:16 pm

Kyndall thought long and hard about her decisions. She'd debated time and again about who did what strongly and how it should be reflected. She also took into account age and seriousness and in the end came up with a cast list she thought would bring out the best in her actors and be the best thing for the show. Telling people they hadn't gotten the parts they wanted was never easy but she'd done it often enough to know it was necessary.

She gathered them all in the drama room attached to the main stage. It was normally her classroom but now it was full of young, hopeful faces. She held the cast list in her hands and tried not to let it show.

Some of you didn’t get what you auditioned for and I’m hoping that’s alright. I had to consider not only what you wanted but what you’d be good at as well. When I read your name I’ll explain why I chose the way I did and if you have additional questions please see me privately once the list is posted.

She took a deep breath, steeling herself against getting too personally emotional with this. Casting was a part of life and she’d felt her share of disappointments. My part’s too small. I wanted another role. The list went on and on. She’d heard it all and had to be calm and impartial.

For our lead role of King Arthur I chose Alexandre Evans.” She knew he’d be surprised for this, about as surprised as she and Gently were that he auditioned for Mordred. “I think you could bring a sense of humanity to the part which is what I really want to do. A good man making bad decisions and trying to hold true to an ideal and come out best for it.

If only she knew how true that really was.

For Lady Guinevere I chose Genevieve Ame. It was a tough decision, ladies, and I did not make it lightly. I think Miss Ame will reflect how hard it was for Guinevere to betray her husband for love of another man. I personally do not think it was an easy decision for her.

She looked at Genevieve and smiled, hoping she made the right choice. The reoccurring theme here seemed to be humanity in all its forms played out for the public to see.

For the Wizard Merlin I chose Zac Bantock.” She hoped Micah wasn’t too disappointed. She liked the girl, she really did. “It was a long debate and I feel Zac would bring a mortal shell to the magical man.

It wasn’t like she didn’t have faith in Micah’s abilities. She did. She had cast Micah for something she felt would suit her as well.

Kess auditioned an amazing Lancelot so I think we’ll keep her there.

Even heroes had their downfall and she felt Kess was up to the challenge of making Lancelot a hero personified and human as well.

I gave the Lady Morgan Le Fey to Daphne Proudmore. You play innocent well, my dear, but what you said about fairness makes me think you can make Morgan sympathetic even as she plots to bring down Arthur.

She neglected to mention, of course, that Arthur and Morgan were step siblings and their incest begot Mordred to overthrow his father. As Tony said – best not to mention it.

To the role of Mordred I cast Miss Flannery Spicer. Pirates are all wonderful and good but I think you can bring the darkness to this part that it needs. Mordred hates his father and I needed someone I trust to portray that and still make Mordred seem real as a victim of his mother’s plotting and circumstance.

To her Mordred needed to be played with delicacy and though it wasn’t the lead she felt confident Flannery could take this on in a way that made him real. She hoped the girl understood that and wasn’t too disappointed.

Jonathan Miller was cast for Sir Galahad on the strict instruction that he come talk to me once I post the lists so we can discuss a few things before we start rehearsals.

But at least he made her laugh. He was enthusiastic and over the top and Galahad was very much an enthusiastic knight. However, she needed to have him tone it down if he hoped to be on her stage. No shining hearts or monk’s robes. Knights wore armor.

Talia Chu will play handmaiden to the Queen and her confidante, Lady Rosalind.

No explanation necessary, really. She knew it wasn’t what Talia had gone for originally but she also knew not everyone could be the star. There were a lot of parts and from here on in it was just a matter of convenience.

The Lady of the Lake will be played by Miss Bell McMahon. Sir Gawain by Mr. Bjorn Guildson though do see our costumer Laney when first rehearsal begins for fitting.

The boy was huge and that was her only concern. It would be impossible to find armor to fit him. It would have to be made. She didn’t envy Laney’s job at that moment.

Micah, I want you to bring your wisdom and subtlety to Sir Gareth. He helped guide the knights the way Merlin guided Arthur. I think you’ll do well there.

She smiled at the girl.

Mr. Darrow will be playing the aged King Uther.

She knew this was a student’s play but his age worked to her advantage. And she liked seeing him squirm and had all but twisted his arm to get him to do it. It was a small part in the beginning of the play and he would do nothing but give a small speech about being a king and nobility before dying with dignity. He could handle that, she was sure of it.

To our youngest actors, Peter and Ainsley, I assigned the Lady Nineve and her husband, Sir Leon. I’m sure you two will be wonderful for these parts.

They were smaller parts but had a few lines each and she hoped the children wouldn’t be too disappointed. Ainsley’s audition nearly had her falling to pieces with cuteness and Peter had tried for the very loft position of Arthur. As much as she wanted to give it to him the part was simply too mature for someone his age. Leon was stalwart and heroic so she thought he’d like the fit.

The cast list will be posted on the board and rehearsal starts Monday afternoon at four PM. It runs every day after school from four to seven. If you have questions please see me.

She moved to the board and pinned the list in place with the crew members listed beneath the cast. Then she moved to her desk in case anyone needed to see her.
