I love your idea for the Whack a Pixie game...and maybe the prize(s?) could be either a pixie-related item or ice/snow item, if they're not too expensive.

As for the scavenger hunt, the only thing I can think of right now is that I think we're probably going to have to predetermine where in the palace grounds each item will be, and guide the guests in those directions (like maybe make a rule that the guests need to stay with a cohost because going off alone, with the castle being in such a volatile state, would be dangerous). Like, we as the actors know where the items are, but our characters don't know. The hard part is going to be keeping the more eager guests from godmodding themselves finding all the objects in one place. The riddle game would be the part where we actually give out prizes to the guests for figuring out the clues and discovering what particular objects need to be found, but the scavenger hunt would be just part of the regular roleplay, not a contest. Like I said, the hard part would be keeping the guests from godmodding "finding" the items, while at the same time making it clear when they actually DO find something. Has there ever been a scavenger hunt-type event in past balls? And if so, how did it work? If there's a reference for how it's been done in the past, maybe it will be easier to figure out the logistics. (And I fully admit that I am crap with logistics. sweatdrop )

The process of the final moment would maybe just be us putting all the items into a big cauldron, and then when the "heart" items (just those belonging to the palace's inhabitants, since this is our kingdom) are put in the pot, there's some kind of sparkly explosion and then the kingdom is magically healed (sort of along the lines of the restoration scene at the end of Disney's Beauty and the Beast). Again, this is probably more of a springboard for further thought/discussion rather than a final idea, but it's what Chibi and I have been able to come up with so far. I'll probably try to ponder it some more between now and tomorrow night when I can be online again (I'm working this evening until closing and then all day tomorrow, so I won't be back on the computer again until tomorrow night).

Thank you and great idea on the prizes...I will go check that out.

What if we made a map of the castle and grounds? Ok so we give them clues (riddles) and they have to find the location on the map that matches the clue(riddle), THEN they get to that location they have to roll a certain number on the dice to see if they get the item....Maybe they would have to ask a character to help them or they could just figure out the riddle and get credit for the item. Maybe PM whoever is running the hunt so they don't blab it all over the place.

how many items do we want to have? What would be the (or should there be?) prize for finding an item? Can you find multiple items? Should every person have to find out all the riddles for all the items and turn in a completed scavenger hunt for a prize/victory?

What if they had to figure out the riddle for both the location and the item? So each answer is a two-parter...we could make it easy and give them a list of the items and they would just have to match it to the riddle and location??

Here are some of the prizes I have come up with for the Whack a Pixie game.... Black ice weaponry, selection fairy, snow deer companion, frigid sprite, scarlet sprite.
What do you all think? Should I find an even lower priced item or are most of these okay?

We'd need some solid ground rules for "whack-a-pixie" if we do it for prizes. For starters, we'd have to explicitly say in the rules that any "win" that they get only counts if they were RPing in the post. Otherwise, we'd be dealing with a ton of spam. If we used a time limit and top three scorers as you suggested, that would make it easier in distributing prizes. We wouldn't have to keep up with as much, and make as many trades as we'd have to do otherwise.

The riddle/scavenger hunt is going to be the tricky part. You make a great point, Alv, in mentioning god-modding to find the treasure. It would be super easy to do a traditional riddle game for the spell ingredients on day one. The day two one... confused I keep thinking about it. Maybe we need more structure to it to keep god-modding out. For example, we could try to figure out the ingredients from the list one at a time, and then go after them together. That'd be a great time to get lost in the labyrinth looking for one or two of the items. Then, we could have some mini-games mixed in as we're searching for the item. If we have a mule doing NPC duty, we could have a guardian of some sort as a question that the guests have to answer. The first guest to correctly answer the question wins a prize, and recovers the item. The method also has the advantage of being able to add to the number of items or take away from the number of items depending on how we're doing on time. What do you think?

Also, I propose that we get everything BUT the last item on the night of the second. We can have a random subplot or other going on, like the romance between Giselle and Caliban during the first part of day three. If we heal the room in the middle of the third day, that will leave the evening for our little crossover/crossdressing fun, and still give us time for the wrap up party in towns. We could also send Sammanus to the school dream with someone else randomly during the plot instead of doing it on day three. Maybe we could even do it on the night of the second day while we're doing our scavenger hunt. He's come back all prettified, and just so happen to have something we needed anyway. XD

Game List:

1. Ok so far we have the Scavenger hunt (day 1?) Do we have a second scavenger hunt for day 2? Will this be a riddle answering contest?

2. Whack-a-pixie

What about some kind of game involving collecting dream sand or something like that...what about something helping find Caliban's misplaced magic tricks or helping the king gather flowers for the queen...I know I am just saying random stuff....I suck at games. XD

There will be riddles on day one, and a scavenger hunt on day two. I have a list of what we have so far on that "plot and characters for reference" or something like that thread. I'm trying to keep it updated with all of our new ideas. Honestly, some of the best games we have are spur of the moment, unplanned, fillers for whenever things get dull. As long as we have a little in reserve, we should be able to throw in some fun little mini-games every so often. 3nodding

Last year, I had a random number game that took place in our planning guild (everything else was in a crew subforum that was locked to the public), and that was a hit. However, the people playing the games tended not to RP with us much, so I'm wondering if that might be counter productive. I'd kind of like Broken's opinion on that one. If she's fine with it, I can whip something up in a jiffy! I'm pretty good at pulling random games out of my butt. xd

So...what did you think of my idea of using riddles for the scavenger hunt? OR rather I should ask how do you plan on running the scavenger hunt? We should probably start deciding how many items they will be looking for. How exactly will they "find" them? (wouldn't it be awesome if gaia could do one of their actual scavenger hunts?!?) Of course those are severely limited.

Hey, I have 166 "joke/cheap" items that we can use for prizes if we want. I can make up a list if you want. They range from 1g to 3000g...I can go through them and weed out the cheaper items and just leave the ones that range from 100g to 3000g.

Just let me know if you want to use them. smile

Okay, since no one showed up to the meeting tonight, let's see if we can knock this out in a hurry in here. You throw out ideas, and I'll throw out some too! heart

Also, for the scavenger hunt, I was thinking that we could limit our search to three items that personify dreams: memories, inspiration, and freedom. Each item would represent one of these things. The catch is that each item can only be obtained by the guests, or else the whole idea breaks down. So, how to do that... This is where I'm thinking that we use special masks that they need to find. We can tell them that there are special masks all over that hold the dream together, but that we can't touch them. We can give them a list of about thirty masks, and the guests will have to guess which ones we're looking for based on the clues in the spell. We'll make a wrong guess on the final one, but we'll go find the final one on Sunday.

We also need some type of mini-game for each of these items to be obtained. We'll need to think on that.

I want to have some other type of on-going game or contest that the guests can do. We could do a random number game like I've done before, but the people who do those don't usually RP. That's the problem. Remember how we had the "punch the clock" thing last year? Something like that. Any ideas?

Guess the Mythical Creature!

Gizelle's books are full of interesting information but it seems some ink spilled over the pages and has made the pictures and names of some of the monsters and beings in it undecipherable. With all the chaos going on she doesn't have time to figure out what monster is being described.

Based on descriptions its up to players to figure out the creature. There will be a couple of them and some sections might need to be filled in regarding information.
For example

....dwell in isolated rocks, mountains, or caves, live together in small family units, and are rarely helpful to human beings
Depending on the region from which accounts of they stem, their appearance varies greatly; may be ugly and slow-witted or look and behave exactly like human beings, with no particularly grotesque characteristic about them. Sometimes associated with particular landmarks, which at times may be explained as formed from one of theese creatures being exposed to sunlight.
The equivalent being in Shetland and Orkney folklore is known as a "trow".

The anwser would be a troll.
I figured likely ten creatures/beings. All would need to be guessed correctly in order to win the game.

Finish the Fairy Tale

All good Fairy Tales need an equally good ending, right? Help finish the story of the crafty peddler and the old wizard. Will the wishes be granted of the peddler or will he be turned into a toad? Only you can tell.

Players continue on the story through posts. Last person to post when the game closes or who writes the ending essentially wins a prize.

This game would be mostly participant driven and simple to manage.

Potion Problems

In exploring the Castle you come across a storage room of various bottles filled with different liquids and objects, nearby is a spell book. Unable to resist you proced to add ingredients together. Will you prove to be a potions whizz or blow yourself to smitherenes?

Using series of dice rolls certain number combos yield certain outcomes. More or less a yahtzee like approach.

Yahtzee! -potion explodes- Cough...Cough...Or not.

How many words make a journey

A lot happened during the Ball this year. But just how many words were said during it all? You may be asking what is the significance of how many words were said...Well there may be no point but there is a prize.

Players must count all the words that were SPOKEN by cast members.

...yeah I'm really stretching now. I think its time for bed.

Inky, I think those are fantastic! heart Well, the word-counting one would be kind of impossible, but the others are so fun and creative and perfect for our theme! emotion_kirakira
