The Security Forces are our security. The protect the base and act as our police force. They are great! They've also had to deal with a whole lot of unauthorized attempts to enter the base out here. What is it about drunk drivers trying to get through the gate when they don't belong here? rolleyes

when they get drunk they get the idea that you guys are hiding aliens on base.

I've lived on an Air Force Base for about 12 years and the SF's never drove around the neighborhood except maybe once a month. I have never seen them do that much unless some called for them. And at the gates they aren't active duty people, they are like a "rent a cop" thing.

Let me tell you about my job......

1.Overseas SF's do man the gates, checking ID cards..doing the gate guard dance of when it rains people tell you to stay dry.
2. SF's sit on the flight lines watching planes for 12hrs a day.
3. There are two different jobs...either being on a police patrol, doing normal police business ie. shoplifting, speeding, loud noise complaints..or being on a base security job where you are either guarding resources, patroling the fenceline or sitting in a post ie a little box checking ID cards.

and the biggest thing an SF does is deploy...alot. Security Forces is a completely different then the rest of the Air Force. When everyone else spends 4 months downrange aka deploys, SFs spend 6 to 7 months. When everyone else has a 9 to 5 job, cops spend at least 14s hours a day on the job.

burning_eyes typed too much...im getting off my soapbox now........ ninja

When I was at Keesler AFB, MS, two guys in my squadron jumped out of a second story window, drunk, so they could break phase.
Also there, a girl got dragged back to the dorms while she was wasted by security forces... with her pants and underwear in hand. She was a major b***h the rest of the time she was there.

no offense, but my cousin said MPs dont do much. what do you guys do?

MP's are in the Army...so far as I know that's the only branch that calls us such. Being an MP in the Army suck...I ain't gonna lie. Airforce has it made period. In the rear we do the same thing that the SF does. On a deployment it's a totally different matter. We deploy for 12 to 18 months. And gate-guard....totally out the window. We do patrols, cordon and search, detainee ops, training, and esteblish defences. I've yet to do a day of force pro. since I've been downrange, because we're too busy doing other things. And yeah, MP's or SF's won't ever only work a 9 to 5 day...ever.

I think the Air Force MIGHT have used the term MP, or something like it, before they merged the AFSC (Air Force Specilaty Code), or the job, essentially, with the base security (The gate guards, etc). Now they're just one big happy family. wink At least, that's what I've been told.... they were merged before I joined up in 2000.

To razor_vampire: Haha great layout, thanks for sharing, that was enjoyable. I remember the days living on base. The standing at every movie, and the still silence in the rain. I can't wait to get stationed somewhere!

I want to go to either, Maryland, Florida, Hawaii, or Idaho. The odds of this happening are almost none, I know that. But I've lived in all those places and there are AF bases in those places too, not to mention friends.

Back when the Air Force was still under the Army, they were called Army Air Corps MPs. When the Air Force was formed, they were called Air Police, then Security Police, now Security Forces.

I'm currently waiting to ship out sometime soon. Can anyone here tell me what to expect as far as BMT?

When I'm 18, I'm going to join either the Navy or the Airforce. I'm leaning torwords the airforce. I want to train and be a pilot... especailly for the F 15 and I've always wanted to pilot one. I also know a few of the basic rules of dogfighting.
1. Always stay on the enemy's six or it's behind.
2. Always attack from the sun.
3. Try to attack above the enemy if possible.
4. Always follow the enemy's stance and path when behind.
5. When in pursuit, pick up as much speed as possible and dive down then imediatly climb up and stay straight until enemy stalls then follow.

Nooooooooo! dont!! go to college first so you will go in as an officer (1st Lt.)
(Pilots are RARELY Enlisted.)
