Actually, I live on top of a small hill in Southeastern Louisiana. Since the hill is surrounded by woodlands, many people often have forest edges in their back yards, and at the very least almost every yard usually has one tree. I believe that this kind of environment is wonderful for attracting the critters you love to observe-just make sure you do so a good bit quietly, since usually wild creatures are very shy and ready to flee at the first sign of what they consider danger. You may only be watching them for fun and enjoyment, but because you're so much bigger than them I wouldn't be surprised if they saw us as big hairy monsters who feed them just to fatten them up and one day plan to hunt them down. crying
And, another interesting thing is that DOWN the hill ((it's walking distance)) is the beginning canals of a great swamp, so we have a HUGE variety of birds to see, both in our yards and on our pleasant nature hikes! 4laugh heart
Upon the hill's top and in our yard's we're very used to seeing cardinals, sparrows, black-capped chickadees and black-tufted titmice at this time of year. Since I'm VERY used to seeing the brilliant red cardinals, I absolutely adore the only three since I've only recently been able to identify them ever since I took up collecting field guides. I have a family friend who rents out a camper down the hill that's a few hundred feet from the shoreline of the swamp, so I'll have to ask him, known as Mr. Jim, what kind of birds they get to see in the swamps at this time of year!
If you guys want, I'll update this post regularly so you can get a year-round guide to what birds to look for, and when they fly in for their annual visit. I'll even go according to what can be seen on the hill-tops, and what can in most cases, only be viewed at the hill-bottom where the swamp banks begin, so that way, if you decide to visit the area, you'll know WHERE to go to seea certain elusive, feathered friend if you want! Since people in this thread love birds, it's the least I can do! whee

We have one parakeet who's about 8-9 years old now. ^-^ She's very boisterous, stubborn, and blunt. It's cute to hear her start squawking in the next room because we're having a conversation without her. She also squawks if we forget to open the curtain of "her window" in the morning (she has a window next to her that she loves to look out of).
Bird watching here isn't so great, but we lived out in the country several years ago, and there were some incredible species out there. Anytime you can stand around a bird feeder long enough to get within 4 feet of a red-bellied woodpecker.... it's just awesome. We had one really sweet male one that would always call out a few times before going to the feeder, so the smaller birds knew he was coming in.
Cowbirds are neat to watch during breeding season. The males puff their tails and wings out and make a neat sound that resembled a drop of water falling into a puddle.
Our first bird was actually a wild one. She'd been attacked by a bluejay and was too injured to return to the wild, so we kept her and consulted with a small animal specialist the few months she lived after that.

Hi, i was bored so i found this and it caught my attention so yea and about birds there are beautiful creatures that don't deserve to be hunted and killed like all the other animals and almost extinct animals needing to be cared and yes i love animals but i love birds but i read in a book that a certain humming birt is being hunted and when i saw the pic it was the most beautiful thing i saw even the arctic foxes the zebras and even the pygmy bunny my fav too but i care alot and try to donate money to charities for animal extinction.
