She had started off very early, so when she wasn't far from the meeting place and there was still plenty of time left, she eased her pace further and her mind began to wander as she became less focused on her path as the most complex part was behind her now.

She bit her lip lightly for a moment and inwardly pouted since she still hadn't figured out what she could give to Huang-Fu as she wanted to express her gratitude to him with a gift. The mandarins she brought for him were snug in the backpack she was carrying on her back. It only really sunk into her mind about his offering to lend fishing gear to her when she recalled the events of the day that night. She had been more preoccupied with worry about Huang-Fu before they parted. That stiff expression was one she was not at all fond of witnessing and was quick to click in her mind as dreadful due to past memories.

Not only was he letting her watch him, he had offered to teach her as well, and so she felt her gift was lacking.

And then another thought crossed her mind. About giving a gift with her appreciation and gratitude, she repeated to herself about what was on her mind, feeling insecure of her motives all of a sudden. It was not that she was coming on to Huang-Fu because of his good looks that the matter of gift-giving was on her mind, she reminded herself. I would like to give him gifts with my gratitude, because I appreciate his kindness, she thought inwardly smiling with a gentle thankfulness followed next by a soft sigh brought on by her lingering guilt as she recalled his patience with her when she was rude to him.

Ah, it was a dead end as she had apparently taken an early and thus wrong turn. She turned back, her thoughts redirected to her path again as her pace became brisk.

It was a good thing she had allotted herself a generous amount of time in her excitement since by the time she had reached her destination despite having to remedy the wrong turn, she made it just on time.

"Sir Huang-Fu, hello," she approached him with a beaming smile and waved, as she had the habit of not differentiating between new and old acquaintances when offering her cheerful greetings. She bowed in addition to her hello upon having stopped before him.

Huang stiffened as she came upon him, She was cheerful, something most people lacked at such an early hour like now. Eager and alert, Huang added as he noticed her and her brisk pace, steady eyes and calm aura. Huang relaxed slowly, even in the morning he was meant to be ready for battle and Though Kotone was a Legionnaire like himself, it didn't stop him from keeping alert around her. Her who was still undefined by Huang himself.

"Good morning Lady Kotone." He bowed his head respectively before checking over her attire and any extra gear she had, "It is good to see you dressed and more prepared for the day, too often have i met fisherman's with the wrong clothing attire and lack of supplies." Huang shifted and brought forward the gear he brought for her, "This shall be your for the time we are fishing together, should you get tired of the activity you may return this gear to me..." Huang looked away as he held the gear out, over the sunshine that was starting its slow rise into the their world.

"For now we shall settle on coves, lagoons and Creeks until we are ready for the bigger of game in the river and seas."
Huang left the gear in front of her before turning on his heel, looking over his shoulder as he waited for her. Today in particular they we're heading to a small cove that he was fond of.

Huang-Fu looked impressive and formidable against the scene of the sun that was gradually rising, which prompted the question again to run across her mind of whether she was correct or not to assume he was a fighter. She thought herself poor at guessing ages actually. However, she still made the guess that he could be a student like her, one or two years older than her maybe. She wasn't confident to guess his academy. She herself had only recently transferred into the institute she was now enrolled in, but if they were both aspiring for the same path, perhaps they may be attending the same place if he was indeed a student as well that is. Since she was new in the academy, she had yet to really be able to familiarize herself with a lot more students such as herself. She liked to head out of the class like a speeding arrow when some free time was declared, excitedly preferring to explore the outdoors of the academy's premises. At this point, she had yet to redirect much of her focus from inanimate aspects of the new school grounds unless they were a weapon attached to their living, breathing owner. And thus, she also hadn't really presented opportunities for fellow student to really approach and get to know her.

"Good morning," Kotone replied in kind to Huang-Fu. When he checked on her attire, she felt like when she as in the academy training class and checked that she was standing up straight and at focused, alert and yet positive attention for the inspection. She listened intently again to his words so as to remember them as fishing guidelines: such attire she had on today was satisfactory for fishing.

When Huang-Fu presented her with the fishing gear he would lend to her for their lessons, she remembered what he had said yesterday. Was this his friend's gear, she wondered. Regardless whether or not this was so, she felt honored that he was giving her a chance to be trusted by him with them. She picked up the gear, her eyes' gaze looking at them in awe and slight shyness. Then she raised her eyes' vision to Huang-Fu, smiling with her words of thankfulness, holding the items he had entrusted to her for the time being securely, "Thank you very much, Sir Huang-Fu. I shall treat these with care."

Coves, lagoons, and creeks are for starting off in fishing. Rivers and seas come when one is more experienced. Kotone took mental notes as she listened more to his words with spirited determination steadily aflame in her eyes as a manifestation of her affirmative of having understood what her teacher had said.

She then moved beside Huang-Fu on his right side to follow him to the fishing spot.

"Sir Huang-Fu, the mandarins I've brought for you are in my backpack," she spoke with him and then also offered, both done so with a bright demeanor, "Shall I peel one for you to snack on as we head to our destination?"

Huang almost cracked a smile at the Kotone. She was by far the more interesting of the characters he had met, with her politeness and overwhelming curiosity. Even though his back was turned to her, he could tell she was politely watching his every move and absorbing every word he said, Like a baby learning of life its few days in.

It would be fun, Huang thought to himself, not that he knew what the word fun was really. A experience, Huang thought to himself again. His thoughts meant a lapse of silence while he tried to align everything in his head. As so, He missed her question and stopped, turning to stare at her again.

His stomach growled in a request of the sweet fruit and Huang gingerly fought with the thought of Kotone doing something for him, regardless of it being offered. He was not quite use to people doing stuff for him and yet he had met many individuals that had done numerous things for him, and he to for them.

"If you are hungry as well Lady Kotone," Huang resumed walking again, "Then i do not mind sharing a morning....snack." Huang said the last word like a hesitant child testing a word out for the first time. He did not know what snacks meant. He had meals and that was it.

He lapsed back in silence as the veered off the docks and onto sandy yet forestry trail of the coastline of the continent. Coves were small or big inlets of water, usually in a circular or oval shape and we're more common off of rivers or the ocean. While he was use to the large sea that the docks we're jutted into, Coves were where small game of fish mingled. Huang frowned.

"The reason to start with coves, Lagoons and Springs is because they have enough water and land to allow fish to mingle or school without being overwhelmed by currents and other predators. Such as they are usually a place for fish from the ocean's and rivers to come in and lay their eggs for young." Huang recited the basic knowledge he had learned from Yuan, the original owner of the gear that Kotone carried now. He was a bit embarrassed to recite her all the information, but she had come to learn and he would do his best to fulfill her expectation of him.

"In the same way, inexperienced fisherman, such as yourself Lady Kotone will have a easier time to catching fish that are not constantly on the move, like when traveling in schools through running rivers, and also as such, smaller fish can be found in Coves rather than in the Ocean." Huang paused again, "Ah...." He rubbed his hand on the back of his neck, they we're reaching the destination soon, and though it was early in the morning, Huang was talking more than he thought he should.

"When you have built up Endurance in your arms and Patience, we will move to Oceans and Rivers, so you can be prepared to handle if you catch the larger game of fish."

As she awaited Huang-Fu’s reply regarding peeling a mandarin for him, she heard a sound. Unknown to her, it was the sound of the growl from Huang-Fu’s stomach. She wondered what it was and if she was just imagining it but placed more focus on listening well to her teacher’s words. She didn’t end up discovering what it was as then, Huang-Fu’s reply and mention of sharing a morning snack reminded Kotone of her own hunger, that today was one of the days she had skipped breakfast.

Kotone smiled widely in response, very grateful again. “Yes, I’m hungry as well. Thank you very much, Sir Huang-Fu, I’ll peel a mandarin for us to share,” she replied happily. And so, she went about this as she followed Huang-Fu’s lead on their way, giving him most of her attention in terms of the path he was showing her and so as not to miss any of his words as a healthy amount of the rest was directed in her motions.

She gave the gear she held securely a bright, reassuring look despite the meaningful gaze only taking a swift instant that implied ‘I’ve got you. Don’t you worry a thing, okay?’ before she shifted them to be managed in the entirety of her left arm’s holds. She freed her right arm from one of her backpack’s straps, which was the start of her process of obtaining a mandarin and her pocket-knife from her backpack. Eventually after doing more shifting and while having managed not to interrupt her following her teacher‘s steps as she traveled with him, she had both arms secured again in shouldering her backpack‘s load, the gear tucked snug with her left arm safely supporting them, and her hands were peeling the mandarin with the pocket-knife as they traversed onward.

She took pauses in her peeling as she admired the scenic view of the trail they were on, of the sand, the forestry, the coastline that entered her field of vision as she kept up with Huang-Fu.

And then when Huang-Fu spoke words of fishing, Kotone had finished peeling the fruit in her hands only a few moments before he had began and listened carefully to everything he said.

At the pause, Kotone gave an enthusiastic and enlightened nod. Huang-Fu’s explanations were clear and easy to comprehend for her as a beginner being taught and Kotone thought highly of him for this. Kotone then proceeded to respond as though called upon by an academy instructor to reiterate what was just lectured upon, “I-I understand, Sir Huang-Fu. Patience and endurance in one’s arms need to be built up in order for a beginner such as myself to be able to advance to butting heads with river and ocean game. Speed is also a factor in determining what the caliber of a fisherman can handle. Not only are fish in coves, lagoons, and springs smaller than those in the rivers and seas, but they also are not as fast as for example the fish that are constantly on the move in schools with the rush of the river. Thus, fish in coves, lagoons, and springs are easier to catch and these places are where they are not overwhelmed by predators and strong currents and so where they come to mingle or school more slowly and from the oceans and rivers to lay their eggs.” Given her insecure nature in such circumstances as speaking up in class, Kotone gave her answer with an overall soft just passable in clear audibility but avid, engaged tone, having started out with some shakiness in the beginning.

“Oh, here you go, Sir Huang-Fu. I’m sorry it took so long for me to peel the mandarin,” Kotone remembered the fruit she was holding and offered half to Huang-Fu. The half of the fruit was sliced completely in three parts with the peel sliced only 3/4ths of the way, having it resemble a fork’s end as the peel remained just one piece since one end kept it together. At the three separated tips, the three fruit slices were separated 1/4th of the way from the peel so that each of the three slices could be more easily ripped cleanly from the peel to be eaten.

In this, Kotone also felt self-doubt in as her mother was far more adept than she was and had given her many sharp corrections during her slowness in learning this peel over the years for when serving her elders.

As her hand was out-stretch with the half-mandarin she offered toward Huang-Fu, it was her stomach’s turn to growl matching the audibility of her voice when she had spoken her reply about fishing. “Wah,” came Kotone’s own gentle-sounding exclamation and then her apology for the noise her tummy made, “I’m sorry for my tummy growling, Sir Huang-Fu, I-I skipped breakfast this morning.” Her hand offering the half-mandarin to Huang-Fu remained secure in its hold on the fruit for him to take as she refrained from trembling in embarrassment and instead blushed and hoped the redness of her cheeks would subside quickly as she inwardly pleaded that her tummy make no more noise.

Huang made a small chuckle at the sound of Kotone's stomach, it was a mirror sound to his and had him thinking of exactly how far they had traveled today, maybe it was a time for a break? He usually didn't but with Kotone along and without really knowing how to abide by other people's endurance and self being, he stopped in the path and let his head swivel before turning back to Kotone.

"We shall break here then, since neither I or yourself have eaten."
He frowned again before heading over to the spot he had chosen, a few rocks jutted out of the ground and we're wide enough for seating, "It is important to eat in the morning, since fishing can take all day." Huang nodded setting down his own pack and gear beside him and took the offered Manadrian Kotonoe held out, biting into the succulent fruit. It was delicious.

He waited patiently for her to sit, her face was covered in a blush and it made him chuckle again. how easily she was to be shy about her stomach.

"It is good to eat through out the day,"
Huang began pausing only to take a bite of the fruit before speaking again, "During lunch, if we are fortunate enough to catch something before then, we shall clean, gut and cook the fish for lunch, to keep energy and spirits high. Fishing takes time, so you must be able to sit and be quiet for hours on end." Huang looked over the path and noticed they we're only another ten minutes of walking away from his cove of choice. "A good thing to practice while fishing is breathing excersises, to help even out your breathing like many do during spiritual training. Also, you must be aware of everything around you, while we are fishing, potentially dangerous animals...or people will sneak upon us." Huang nodded to that, it was often that he found himself with a angry forest animal or more recently angry noble fishermen.

He had chuckled. Twice even. And it was like his doing so had some influence on her as well as she smiled a light, shy but bright smile. Kotone liked seeing good-natured chuckling, smiling, laughing, and so forth. Knowing that life was far from filled only with such degrees of happiness, she was of the mentality to always aim to keep in mind to cherish all the various amounts of gladness she’s blessed to come across. Said mentality in her had been aided by the teachings and encouragements of her grandfather.

She took a seat as well after carefully setting down the gear she was lent and her backpack on a space beside her. She was still hoping for her blush to subside quickly when she had taken her seat, but after she had thought her inward thanks and had taken a bite of her half of the mandarin, her blush had gone and was replaced by a widening of her light, closed smile that indicated the commencement of her delight in enjoying her snack while she had angled herself in her seat to continually listen carefully to Huang-Fu.

“Being able to sit and keep quiet for hours on end, breathing exercises, awareness of surroundings,” the tone of this response which repeated words was filled with amazement.

“Um, that means I shouldn’t move so much while I’m seated during fishing, doesn’t it?” Kotone asked curiously. She bit her bottom lip lightly for a moment right after she had asked the question, suddenly feeling it was a silly inquiry. She took a moment to next look at her feet as she began swinging her legs gently alternating them being synced and not synced in their swings. And when she looked back up to Huang-Fu she made a somewhat hesitant confession, which was then followed by a transition to a strong-willed, determined facial expression and delivery of words, “The longer I sit, the harder it is for me to refrain from moving. But, I’ll do my best at improving in keeping still for longer and longer periods of time.” She continued to admit while lowering her chin and raising her shoulders at the same time momentarily in recognizing her oddity right before she began to rock her upper body back and forth and resume swinging her legs, “I’m trying to get movements out of my system, but I’m not sure this will really help at all later.”

She stopped her motions before saying her next words with a happy, toothy smile, "Really, thank you very much, Sir Huang-Fu, I'm learning so much more about fishing from the words you're imparting to me. I knew only before that fishing skill could help me in terms of bettering my chances of aquiring a meal while staying in the wilderness for great lengths of time. But now I also realize that fishing also can help me in my training to keep improving to become a skilled fighter."
PostPosted: Sat Aug 07, 2010 10:41 pm

Huang stared at Kotone now with a very bland but thoughtful gaze. He didn't know how well Kotone would handle sitting still for so long, but for everyone there first time was hard. Even Huang had trouble his first time actually fishing, he had been jumpy at every sound or crack of a twig the whole day, he had been a nervous wreck. Yuan had even told him that he would have to practice his breathing and stillness skills, it was good for relaxation and for preparation for the brain in battles.

"Ah, I had trouble my first time sitting still as well,"
Huang said his thoughts out loud to comfort the girl, she would learn that it takes time for the skill to be perfected and if so continues with her fishing lessons then she would master it, "I was too aware of my surroundings and twitched or jumped when i heard large noises. Not only that but my legs fell asleep and i got tired of staying still for so long." Huang shook his head, "Its any wonder i still fish, Yuan who was my friend and taught me to fish, also had a problem with his first few days of fishing. But because your body gets use to the actions, then you are able to do it for longer amount of times up until you have mastered it for the longest amount of time, usually a full day of fishing."

Huang started to peel into another mandarin to ease his hunger, taking a bite, he enjoyed the fruit the same as Kotone did.

"For the first hour, you will be allowed one break to get up to walk, for the second, you will get to stretch in your spot and for the third hour you must stay still the whole time. Then we will break for lunch if we are lucky enough to catch anything and return to fishing with the same method. If you have no other plans that is. I plan a day dedicated just to fishing." Huang nodded his head before standing up and tossing the peels into the forest, "Come we shall make the rest of our way to the cove and set up, then we begin the fishing. I will tell you then how to practice your breathing so that you get into a easy rhythm." Huang picked up his gear and headed down the path, sure that Kotone would be right behind him.

By this time, according to their interactions since meeting to now, it had been imprinted in her mind that Huang-Fu had so much wisdom. All the words of wisdom he had been imparting to her thoroughly fascinated her. Thus, when Huang-Fu spoke of his fishing experiences, she listened with great eagerness to learn that was compressed with calmness. Kotone subconsciously carried an eccentric air to her whenever she was in an outgoing state in that her already exuding a great amount of liveliness in a docile appearance, her being still implies an even fuller extent of this liveliness being restrained and that this liveliness chooses unexpected times to show higher doses of itself.

When she heard and thought about the possiblity of one's legs falling asleep while fishing, Kotone inhaled a light, soft, nearly inaudible gasp from her slightly parted mouth, her eyes taking a brief instant to look down and up at her own legs where her hands were laying on her lap. She was striving to embed details of Huang-Fu's teachings in her memory to keep in mind, such as that with practice one's body gets used to actions and thus in turn, improves at them further along the line of performance, more practice, of them.

A bright, closed smile of determination and excitement curled her lips and she continued to listen. When Huang-Fu stood after speaking, she stood as well and drew her right hand up against her head in an enthusiastic salute, her soft voice responding with alertness, "I understand. I have no other plans today and shall dedicate today for fishing." Then, upon his next words she replied with a nod accompanying her voice. "Okay," Kotone promptly picked up her things as well and followed Huang-Fu.

Then, as she was looking around her and remembering where they passed, Kotone noticed the tattoo on Huang-Fu's arm. "You have a dragon on your arm," she soft voice came again, commenting with amazement. Realizing in the next moment that she had said that out loud and not just in her head, she looked from the dragon up to Huang-Fu and gave a small explanation with an embarrassed smile, "Dragons are my favorite creatures." She then moved her gaze back to observing their path around them and finding herself still seemingly endlessly in awe at all the places she's seen today, her mouth often closing and then slightly opening again in wonder at the scenery.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 11:42 am

Huang looked over his shoulder to see Kotone admiring his tattoo and smiled at her. She was one of the many who seemed to be fascinated by the design of the dragon that encircled his arm.

"Ah, it was a gift and training segment from my master. He thought by teaching me to sit down and deal with the pain of tattooing, that i would become stronger in the face of torture if i was ever captured."
Huang rubbed his hand over the tattoo in memory, "It took him three months to finish the design and coloring of it, and even afterwards because of the pain and ink, i had to deal with an infection." Huang looked at that time fondly, Yuan and Kade had been worried sick over their treatment of him as he had laid in bed withering in pain from the infection. But it didn't kill him, for here he stood, much stronger afterwards. Mentally and physically.

"Ah, Dragons stand for strength and beauty." Huang smiled softly at her again, she was like a child with her fascination. "And i do not question why it should be your favorites of creatures, even our goddess has has designed us based of our dragon brethren." Huang pointed to the fins on his head. Since he was a child, it was often said our Lunarians came from the fish and Dragons of the sea that surrounded them.

"We are here." Huang turned from Kotone now as they walked into a small cove, the sun had started its rise in the sky as the orange tinted the blue. The cove sparkled with the new sunlight, the sand looked far cleaner then any of the beaches, not a soul treaded here like Kotone and Huang did now.

"We must make our camp for the day and set up our gear."
Huang set down his packs before going around the small cove beach collecting rocks and driftwood to set up a safe fire. He dug a small groove in the sand and placed rocks around it, before setting up the driftwood. Everything he did was precise and with calculated movements, in the quickest method possible. Within minutes he had a fire going and had begun unpacking his gear.

"Watch as I do Kotone, to set up your gear." Huang pulled out all the pieces of his fishing rod and put it together, stringing the line through the wooden pole, adding a hook and then a little bob of his own design. He pulled out a box of bait and set it out for her to reach before taking some for himself and putting it on his line.

Satisfied that his rod was ready, he waited for Kotone to finish hers.

Kotone’s gaze was drawn back to Huang when he spoke. Indeed like a child, she subconsciously imitated her teacher, rubbing her sleeve like he rubbed his arm, as she replied, eyes having widened slightly, “I see.”

It amazed her to learn how tattooing was cleverly utilized as another means of training. At the disclosing of an infection, concerned appeared hinted on her features. However, when she saw that his expression seemed to imply a fond recollection, the concern was replaced with a light smile.

From his expression, she interpreted that he’d grown from it and was glad for the experience. More and more, Kotone was seeing Huang as a great role model.

As he began to speak of dragons, her face lit up in a smile of agreement. And when he pointed to his fins, she responded childishly again as her own hand went up and touched the tip of one of her own fins between her fingers.

The sky with its brilliant coloring drew her attention next. “Waahh,” her expression of awe and fascination was soft and drawn out.

“It’s so beautiful here,” she commented as her steps slowed but still followed after Huang. She twirled twice with vibrant steps forward as she proceed, her gaze to the sky. Then all of a sudden after the moment of daydreaming, she remembered she was not alone and had briefly forgotten the lesson. And at this realization, her form stiffened abruptly to attention, which caused her to lose balance in that instance and fall forward. She had caught herself quickly, righting herself with a little spring into a hurried walk, catching up to Huang.

“Okay,” Kotone replied, as she then swiftly transitioned to trying to keep up with Huang setting up camp. He was fast, she was amazed again as she observed and followed him. He collected materials at record speed and she could only add a bit of extra rocks and driftwood. It seemed like he spotted what was needed instantly and she needed to look around before rushing to a spotted object and bringing to the camp.

Seemingly like before she knew it, they were working on setting up their gear. “Okay, Huang-Fu,” she replied in like affirmative to Huang. Continually she was in awe of her teacher. This was what he meant by practice leading to great skill, she thought as she tried hard to watch and imitate his motions with the fishing rod‘s pieces as he put it together, fumbling with the fishing rod he’d given her as she got it ready. Her expression actively moved between concentration and worry as she worked and then to a small glad sigh of relief when she’d finished a bit after Huang.

“U-um, did I do this correctly?” she asked her teacher. Her eyes roamed the fishing rod’s length to check her work with an apologetic expression, as though giving her nonverbal apology to the fishing rod that her unskilled hands were giving it hard time getting set up. She seemed to continue her nonverbal conversation with it as her expression changed to say to it that she promised to do her best with a look of determination that was then softened as if asking for its patience with her.

The bait caught her attention soon after. She only had a closer look of it now, since she was more concentrated on not keeping her teacher waiting too long for her to finish setting up her gear. She then asked curiously, “Um, don’t the fish see the hook with the bait? Why do they still bite?”
PostPosted: Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:46 am

Huang continued to watch his fishing student as she watched him. It was an odd feeling knowing that he was sharing his own training methods and techniques much like Kade and Yuan had taught him and in his mind he chuckled because of the famlierness. He laughed as she touched her own fins when he told her about the similarity of dragons to Lunarians. It was her reactions that surprised and caught Huang's attention the most though. For a person who had sealed his emotions away, and where even if he did have some semblance of a emotion, it never showed on his face or in his movements. The more he thought on it though, He realized that just in the morning alone, he had laughed and smiled with her. Was this all because of Jianyu's moments together?

"It is quite beautiful here." Huang turned his head to the vast ocean, it was a monstrous beauty, sun reflected off the surface, dancing on the pale blue water, like fire over ice. If he didn't know better, he would be tempted to let himself go into the water, but beauty was like a double edge sword, while the ocean was gorgeous and tempting, it was dangerous. If the sea beast wasn't enough to fear the waters, The ships of unknown invaders that had been spotted were enough to keep him grounded. Especially after what happened to his best Friend. "Do not be fooled and entranced though Kotone, Beauty only last a moment in time, absorb it, remember it and then remind yourself that even Beauty has its thorns. One cannot have the other without being complete."

As she set up her pole, Huang was half tempted to help her as she fumbled around. Though he was more pleasantly pleased when she figured it out by herself and nodded in praise as her pole was set up well enough for fishing. A little rough but he expected nothing less from a newbie.

"Yes Kotone, You did it fairly well, with time will come the masteration of putting the pole together. You will find a way more suited for your comfortableness." Huang patted her on the head before holding the bait out. "Ah that is a good question actually." Huang smiled secretly as he pulled out a bob with a hook and no bait attached. "Watch as I do Kotone." He smiled again as his hand dipped into the small bucket of worms and leftover fish meat, rolling into a ball before sliding the hook through the middle of it. Satisfied, he showed her how the hook could barely bee seen with the amount of bait. "I am not sure if the fish actually see it." Huang said truthfully, "I think that they are more enticed by the smell of food. When fishing, you have to be careful, some fish will bite the right spot of the bait and pull it all away with the hook catching. Some will just nibble at it and then...." Huang paused, "Some will just take the bite. Once they do, it is their doom. The hook catches in the cheek of their mouth. They can still escape Kotone." Huang stressed that point very much, using his hands to show her what happens to the hook and fish. "When you feel a violent tug, you start to reel in your line." Huang demonstrated by showing her the reel on the pole, spinning the little mechanical device. "You have to keep pulling, you can't stop. Sometimes, the hook will come undone, or slice through the fishes mouth and they escape."

"Yes Kotone, You did it fairly well, with time will come the masteration of putting the pole together. You will find a way more suited for your comfortableness."

“Thank you. I understand,“ Kotone replied as she stored more of his teachings to keep in mind and smiled thankfully as she had heard Huang’s words and received a pat on her head. Again, she has lost track of how many times it has now been that she has thought of him as a great teacher. Her determined gaze eyed the pole in her hands that she had managed to put together as she ran through the steps of how she had done so to review and eagerly work on further solidifying what she was being taught.

"Ah that is a good question actually."

His words were like a magnet to her. As soon as he began sounding a syllable, her eyes and ears sharply checked her focus on learning and paying attention to the instructor she looks up to.

"Watch as I do Kotone."

And she did so. She looked in amazement at the ball of worms and meat he was shaping in his hands. “Wow..“ she breathed the word in awe in just above a whisper, when he showed it to her. Her head would move in a nod of understanding after almost each sentence of his explanation and her eyes followed his hands carefully as he gave demonstrations.

"You have to keep pulling, you can't stop. Sometimes, the hook will come undone, or slice through the fishes mouth and they escape."

Again, all the new information was fascinating her. She moved her hands to replicate and go over how he demonstrated what happens to the hook and fish and then tried her hand at spinning the device, too, aiming to drill everything into her memory.

“Fishing is in its own way an art of battle, too?” her alacrity toward this day of lessons was reflected in her eyes as she spoke. Kotone was reminded of the art of battle during Huang’s explanation of fishing and the similarities between them that she interpreted.

"Do not be fooled and entranced though Kotone, Beauty only last a moment in time, absorb it, remember it and then remind yourself that even Beauty has its thorns. One cannot have the other without being complete."

These words of Huang suddenly replayed in her mind. When he had said these words, she didn’t know what exactly he was thinking or reminded of when he said them. She thought of many dangers of the beautiful ocean such as of drowning and predators and other possibilities, but these she knew and experienced only as warnings. His words reminded her of something else apart from the ocean, but she felt they had similar thoughts on beauty.

“Remembering your words earlier, I’m prompted to thinking this: That fishing is party of the beauty of the ocean. There is beauty in so many things. For the art of battle, sportsmanship is one of the things I find beautiful about it. The turmoil caused by bloody warfare are thorns. I’m very glad that there are happy moments to be had such as fishing like now,” she smiled after saying the last sentence. “Moments like this give me strength and hope to continue forward and grow,” she added.

Huang noticed her competence and rewarded it with a grin before sighing peacefully.

"It is good you have learned the lesson today then. We shall finish our fishing and head home. Perhaps I will ask you to help me again."
He smiled at her before reeling in more fish. All together they sat for another couple of hours, quietly fishing until Huang told them it was time to pack up and leave.

Once back at the docks, He waved her a goodbye and headed home. Quite pleased that he had helped a student reach her potential and even more so that he had caught a huge load. Today had been odd and yet still satisfying. He hoped to see more of Kotone around after all.
