"Yes, I've tried. Maybe I'm just bad at reading other foxes, but I've never known someone as well as they know themselves. Just the same as no one really knows me, or you."
This was very against Ith's nature, but she'd play the calm one so Arian wouldn't throw another fit. Ith had been calm before, right? Sure, plenty of times. She wasn't overly prone to temper tantrums. This was just being calm again.

"Daddy knows me."
Well, maybe not as well as Arian knew herself--but that was because she had been stuck with Mommy and Caolan and Dervla and the entire lame side of her family, so she hadn't even gotten to see Daddy that much.
But she was grown up now, and on her own, and could see him whenever she wanted to, so now they could get to know one another!
Once she found him, anyway...
"And ya can't get to know anyone without ever speaking to them." Her tone added the 'duh' she hadn't said out loud.
And she hadn't added that last to take her mind off of not seeing daddy since forever. Nope, not at all.

"Mm. I'm glad you have him, then. I don't know my...parents." The word itself was strange to her. What was a parent? She knew the definition, but not how parents actually were.
"I know, Arianrhod. But what we are...well. It didn't exactly lend to ocnversations." She snorted; others were so cowardly and stupid. "Others have always edged away from me." She was a loner because it was easier. Easier than trying to find someone to talk to, anyways.

"Good, they saved you the trouble of having to beat their worthless asses into the ground. I haven't ever met a modifox worth talking to besides Daddy."
Arian was blissfully unaware of how hypocritical that statement was, considering the fox she was talking to right now was not Daddy.
"Not all parents are great. Mom is just ******** weird."
Ask Arian to describe her mother, the parent she'd grown up with, and Arian didn't think she even could. Her mom was a first class freak, in ways Arian couldn't even begin to comprehend.

Time skip because these two are le fail at getting along. XD
Ithaca sat at the mouth of the cave she called home, the other vixen asleep somewhere behind her. A slushy mixture of ice and rain had been falling for hours now, and even the volatile purple and black Daeva hadn't been able to try and venture out in it.
As much as Ithaca didn't really enjoy the other's presence in her cave--it was unsettling, sharing something after being alone all her life-- it was nice to have her asleep; it meant Ithaca wasn't being yelled at a crazy and immature fox. Arianrhod's voice was incredibly loud, especially for Ithaca, who raised her self in relative silence.
The weather worsened, and Ithaca created more flames to warm herself. She enjoyed waching storms from the relative safety of the cave opening, and it was far better than trying to sleep while a practical stranger snored quietly against the warm back wall of her home.
If the other stuck around for much longer, Ithaca had a feeling she'd fly the coop. Arian was just so...piercing. The idea of company wasn't as horrendous as Ithaca had thought it might be, and she didn't truly mind the chance to talk to another Modidaeva...but Arianrhod stormed and complained and made idle threats too much. Hopefully she could just ******** settle down already.
Or if not, hopefully she'd at least stay asleep for a good long while.

What Ith didn't seem to know was that, for all her posturing and bluster, Arian had come to...well, perhaps not like, but at least trust Ithaca somewhat. The fact that she lowered he guard enough around the other female to sleep around her was proof enough of this.
And Arian didn't care that it was the middle of the day--the storm meant she was stuck in the cave. Where it was boring. And so the only thing to do was either harass Ith (which was rapidly losing its appeal) or sleep, and so, she opted for the latter.
But, being a diurnal fox, her nap could only last so long, and so Arian found herself waking up, even while the storm was still going on.
She didn't say anything to Ith when she woke up--she had nothing to say to her--as she padded over towards the cave entrance to stare at the weather, and hope the stupid storm went away soon.

Ithaca looked over as Arian sat next to her. The fact that the other wasn't yelling or glaring or being dramatic at all was still strange to her, but Ith felt like maybe she was slowly learning that the other's anger was some sort of defensive front.
A defense against what, Ithaca didn't know, but she wasn't going to poke into that today.
The storm increased in its intensity, and Ith squinted into the cold gray scene in front of them. Would Arian leave as soon as the storm let up? As strange as it was to admit it, Ithaca thought she could maybe enjoy her company if she stayed around.
Maybe. But there was only one way to see if the other had truly calmed down, or if she'd just been tired before: talking.
"Did you sleep well?"

Arian was suspicious of Ith's question--the other 'deava had seemed more than ready to try to be rid of Arian as soon as she could, after all, and so what could possibly pass as conversational small talk threw her for a bit of a loop.
"Yes. Fine." There was a bit of an edge to her voice, but it was not from anger, but rather suspicion. What was Ith up to...?
She realized that beating around the bush like this wasn't going to get her anywhere. Being direct was always more her style, anyway.
"Why are you asking?" and now her voice had less of an edge still, but rather a note of something that was somewhere between caution and curiosity.

"Well that's good." Ithaca was content to let the silence hang until Arian spoke up again.
Why had she asked? Ith herself wasn't sure. It wasn't like it would ruin her day if the other vixen had slept poorly, and it wouldn't make her day that she had slept well. It was a meaningless question.
But she had a feeling Arian was slightly suspicious.
"I don't know. I thought small talk was normal," Ith eventually said with a shrug--it was clear she had no malicious intent.

That seemed to calm Arian some, although she was still a bit on edge. Then again, it seemed the only time she was wholly relaxed was when she was asleep, so that should hardly come as a surprise to Ith.
"It is," Arian admitted, although didn't do much to contribute to it herself.
At least, for a while.
Some time later, for reasons known only to herself, Arian spoke up again: "you think it'll be over soon?"

"The storm?" Ithaca looked over at the other Modidaeva. "Probably. It tends to get worse for awhile and then lighten up pretty soon."
Undoubtedly, Arian would be gone as soon as her wings could handle the weather. But thw weather wasn't in her favor at the moment--a hard gust blasted right at them, spraying both females in icy water.
Ithaca chuffed and moved out of the cave entrance, vigorously shaking water out of her pelt. "The winds and the rain should calm down in no more than an hour or so."
She conjured up the flamed around her paws again in a weak attempt to stay warm.

Arian hissed as she was hit with the water, and moved back to her corner in the back of the cave.
Like Ith, she tried to warm herself with her flames, and also like Ith, that could only do so much.
She hesitated for a few minutes, but as suppressed shivers started to move through her body, she had to give in: she moved back next to Ith, and pressed against her, in an obvious attempt to share her body heat.
"An hour, you said," Arian spoke to the cave wall, apparently pretending like she was not pressed up close against the other female.

Ith tensed in surprise when the other vixen rpessed up against her. She couldn't decide what was worse--how awkward this was, or how much she didn't mind it at all.
Well. That apparently answered the question of "males or females?"
"An hour." Ith decided the roof of the cave was exceptionally fascianting.

"An hour isn't too long," Arian told the cave wall.
She'd known for some time that males did nothing for her, but up until this moment, she was thinking that Ith didn't do anything for her either, and now...
Arian was doing her best to ignore the feeling of the warm body of the other female pressed up close to her side, so close that she could feel Ith's heart beat as if it were her own.

"No, not too long at all." Ith shifted her weight as they sat there awkwardly.
"So. Are you warm enough yet?" Because Ithaca was beginning to think she had other ideas for keeping warm.
