++ [ Entry 1 - self roleplay ] ++

It was raining...

Kaze sat at the desk, a small book unopened in her lap as she watched the tiny water droplets splash down, forming glistening trails against the slightly grimy glass of Kori's window panes.

Had it already been a month?

It was desperation that had led the half-sprite to seek out the fallen angel. Desperation and the wish, if only for a little while to stop running - to stop hiding.

Come to think about it, it had been raining like this the day she had knocked on the door to Kori's appartment, the feathers in her head wings as beddraggled as she in most probably had looked and puddles of water marking her trail from outside to door.

Kori had been at home, the first words out of the fallen angel's mouth being characteristically
"Oh it's you. You do realise that you look like a drowned rat."

And she had burst into tears.

The memory made her smile ruefully imagining the picture she must have made, beddraggled and shivering as she cried on the doorstep of the fallen angel, but she'd been desperate at the time and despite Kori's (many) faults she'd always been able to rely on him.

Not that he'd been too happy about having her crying on his doorstep.

Kaze sighed the smile fading.

Kori had naturally been unsympathetic and had pointed out that reason why she was in such a state was in essence all her own fault anyway. The fallen angel had seen fit to loan her some of his clothes and some towels so she could exchange her wet clothes for dry ones and offered her a cup of hot chocolate too though.

Kori had also sat and listened as Kaze had told him about everything that had been going on since she'd last seen him.. Including her argument and split with Kirith as well the fact that she'd been summoned by the Air Court to present herself and that she'd ignored the summons.

Kori hadn't offered any sympathy, but he'd kept the sarcastic comments down to a minimum and had afterwards offered to let her stay in his spare room for as long as she needed.

He'd also told her that she couldn't keep running away for ever.

Kaze half-closed her eyes her book completely forgotten now, the pitter-patter of rain strangely soothing, her thoughts still drifting back to that day.

Kori had pointed out that she was a sprite - that no amount of running away would change that.. that half her heritage came from it and with it came things both good in bad, although Kaze still couldn't see why she should present herself to the Air Court so she could be married off to some sprite she'd never met. Didn't see why she should present herself to the ridicule that she was too human for them, too tall and lacking the wings all full-blooded sprites had.

Besides she didn't want to get married, much less to some stranger that the Air Court had picked out because of her magic.

Kaze's stomach rumbled, reminding the half-sprite that she hadn't eaten anything for breakfast and she stood her right hand automatically reaching out to catch the book as it slid off her lap, the simple silver bracelets adorning her arm clinking lightly together.

There were cookies in the kitchen - cookies that she'd baked fresh that morning shortly after waking up. Not that there was anything else there.. At least not anything else edible - Kori didn't really bother with food unless his boyfriend Mitsukune was coming over and he tended to spend more of his time over at Mitsukune's place which was something that suited Kaze just fine - Mitsukune made her nervous.

Kaze shook her head slightly, the action dislodging her glasses slightly - something she quickly rectified with an exasperated sound and a rueful smile.

At least she had cookies and a place to stay... And friends, even if she hadn't seen said friends for a while, not since this whole mess in fact.

Maybe Kori was right - maybe it was time she stopped running.

The shop drew her, fed her curiousity, the pretty glowing lanterns of all shapes and sizes so tempting.

Kori had booted her out of his appartment for the day, muttering something about Mitsukune coming over and that she could come back around three.

Kaze wasn't too sure what the two would be doing that would take so long but figured whatever it was she probably wouldn't want to know anyway. Besides Kori's boyfriend gave her the creeps sometimes and she still didn't know what Kori saw in the tall, whatever Mitsukune was although she'd bet her headwings that it wasn't human.

Still it was none of her business and Mitsukune seemed to make Kori happy which meant she supposed she was happy with it, or more like happy for Kori.

The lanterns were pretty though and Kaze wondered if maybe she should get one and if so Kori would mind.

He hadn't minded her dragons after all - or at least she figured he didn't since the only comment he'd made was that she'd better make sure she kept them in her room - Kori speech for 'I'm ok with it as long as you keep it in your space'.

~ o ~ o ~ o ~

Mind made up Kaze had impulsively pushed opened the shop door, the inside of the shop looking as entrancing as the outside if currently empty.

Empty..

The emptiness of the shop deflated her enthusiasm a little, the half sprite not sure she really wanted to wait - after all what if the owner didn't come back for a long time - what then?

For once she didn't even have cookies on her, or a book.

And yet...

Yet still the lanterns drew her, made her want to own one for her own, made her...

"You're thinking crazy things again" Kaze told herself wistfully, a wry smile tilting it's way across her lips.

And still she hesitated, looking back at the lanterns.

Then a sound from outside, a cat meowing broke the spell, made Kaze shake her head in bemusement and head towards the door.

She'd go pick up some groceries and more chocolate chips, goddess knew that by the time she'd finished Kori and Mitsukune would have finished whatever it was they'd apparently needed the whole day to do and at least for once there'd be real food around.

Back outside she gave the shop one final look, already making the mental note (if only subconsciously) to come back.

For now however came groceries, the making of cookies and a promise for the future.

"Mummy?"

Kaze awoke with a gasp, emerald eyes still lingering in her mind.

She'd been having weird dreams ever since the day that she'd found that odd little lantern shop.

Sighing the half sprite reached for her glasses awkwardly and then for a comb before starting the dailiy ritual of unbraiding and combing out long blue hair that had become tangled up during the night.

All her dreams had been off a pair of emerald green eyes, eyes that had been full of curiousity although she hadn't been able to see the face and he - Well at least she thought he was a 'he' - He had called her mummy as if he'd had every right to do so.

Kaze winced as the comb hit a stubborn snarl, tugging the comb a little more gently through the soft blue strands.

There was no point in telling Kori about her dreams - the fallen angel would probably only give her a flat look and tell her she was going crazy and that he hoped that she wasn't expecting him to do anything about it. Kaze grinned amused, almost able to hear her friend's flat and slightly irritated voice.

The grin faded quickly though. No she wouldn't tell Kori, not that he was around anyway - he'd said something about spending a few days with Mitsukune and that she'd better make sure not to break anything or burn the place down while he was gone. He'd also told her to pay the landlady and to stay out of his room - all in all typical Kori responses really.

At least there was food though and not the instant coffee and air that Kori seemed to exist on left to his own devices.

Not that Kaze wasn't grateful for her friend letting her stay in his spare room, but from what she'd seen Kori really didn't know how to look after himself.

Her hair finished, Kaze set to rebraiding it before tying off each end carefully with a silver ribbon.

Impulsively the half-sprite reached for her harp before heading towards Kori's kitchen.

Today she'd head for the park and maybe play a few tunes in the rock garden. It was nice in the park with the sound of the breeze in her ears almost accompanying her... And more to the point the rock garden was deserted enough that she needn't fear being disturbed.

And if the park was en route past the strange little lantern shop, tis was nothing but co-incidence...

And should she be tempted into another look.. Well that too would be nothing but more co-incidence.

"What's that?"

Kaze looked up startled at the voice, then relaxed as she caught sight of Kori. "You startled me Kori. I thought you were staying over with Mitsukune for the rest of the week"

The fallen angel shrugged unpeturbed. "Changed my mind" he said. "Wasn't sure I wanted to let you loose in here on your own for that long" he added flatly.

Kaze shrugged back "This coming from the person who thinks that air and instant coffee is all that one needs to live on?"

"It's food isn't it?" Came the calm response. "And you still haven't answered my question." A pale hand pointed to the jade lantern that Kaze had bought earlier. "What's that?"

"It's a lantern" Kaze said. "There was this little shop near the park and I..."

"And you couldn't resist buying one" Kori finished for her dryly. "Just like you couldn't resist buying all those little dragons or the fact that my fridge is unnaturally full." He didn't sound angry about any of it though, in fact the fallen angel almost sounded.. Amused.

Kaze told herself she was imagining things - Kori and she might be friends - well to her he was one off her friends, even if she wasn't always sure if he considered her one back. Although since he was still letting her stay in the spare room, maybe he did consider her more of a friend and not someone who did the odd job with him. Maybe...

"...Away from Mitsu."

"Huh?" Grey eyes peered curiously at Kori.

"I said keep it away from Mitsukune, that is if you want to keep it in one piece."

Kori walked to the door of his bedroom, an indication that the conversation for now was over, but hesitated before opening the door. "One more thing" he didn't bother to turn round.

"Yes?" The curiousity Kaze felt was reflected in her voice - this was probably the longest conversation Kaze'd had with Kori since she'd started living in his spare room.

"Next time you want to indulge yourself in harp playing, you might want to choose somewhere more public. If I can feel the magic from it, then I'm pretty sure the Air Court can too and sprites has long memories."

Kaze blinked. Had that been.. Concern she'd heard? The snick of a key turning in the lock told her Kori had retreated into his room and was thus beyond her reach of asking since goddess only knew how long he'd be in there... Besides knowing the fallen angel, he probably wouldn't give her an answer anyway.

Sighing she found herself looking at the lantern in her hand, a lantern that had been slightly out of the way of the other lanterns and yet had drawn her towards it to the point where she had known that she wouldn't be leaving the shop without it.

That said Kori was right about keeping the lantern away from Mitsukune - Kori's red-haired boyfriend would probably only break it or at least try to break it - especially if he thought it might be precious to her.

Pushing open the door to her room she impulsively used her powers to clear the small bedside table, tiny dragons of all hues hovering absently in the air.

Into the newly vacated space she gently placed the lantern, taking a step back to admire her handiwork.

Perfect.

kaze1981
Small hands moved competently over the strings of a small harp, a slow somewhat sad melody pulled from the strings as the owner - a short, bespectacled, blue-haired woman with slightly pointed ears sat quietly on a stool.

On a table nearby was a medium-sized paper bag tipped onto its side and the smell of freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies emanated from it... Not that the woman seemed to notice though, as she sat grey eyes lost in thought - or maybe the song she was playing.

Enikil
Small green hands held tightly onto fuzzy soft white bunny ears, little green legs swaying about. Aikori was sitting atop of Enikils shoulders, they were out for a walk around. The werebunny had noticed his little lanturn had been a little under the weather, so he was taking extra time out for him.

"Whats the pretty sound comming from?" The little green lanturn asked softly, looking around with a small smile. The green eyed male stopped and headed in the direction of the sound. Also the smell of freashly baked cookies wafted into his nose, Enikil knowing who it was before they saw the blue haired lef playing the harp.

kaze1981
Kaze played the final notes of the melody and let her fingers still on the harp, the melody drifting on the air for a moment before slowly fading.

She let it, not making any move to start a new song as yet, a wistful smile on her lips - music always cheered her up - had always done ever since she'd mysteriously received the harp as a gift one day back when she'd been a small child...

Well music and cookies, some times there was nothing better than freshly baked...

Grey eyes blinked as Kaze heard what she thought were voices, the voice sounding somewhat familiar.

"Hello?" she called out.

Enikil
Hearing the call out, Enikil poped his head intot he room, Aikori still holding onto his white ears. " Ah, hello Kaze, I thought it was your beautiful music I was hearing" The red head smiled, stepping more into her line of view. HIs were tail swished a bit as his little lanturn looked over at the blue haired women with a smile.

"Hi" Aikori waved, letting go of the others ears as not to hurt him. The little lanturn had looked troubled as of late, but was happy to have Enikil all to himself.

"How have you been Kaze?" He asked softly, a smile on his face.

kaze1981
Kaze smiled back "Hi Enikil, hi Aikori I'm glad you liked the song. It's been a while since I've seen the both of you hasn't it" her smile turned a shade rueful. "I've been" she hesitated a little not wanting to talk about her problems as it wouldn't be fair to burden them on to anyone. "Not unwell" she settled on at last. "I've been wandering a lot recently."

Which was true - she had been wandering a lot - more than normal actually, although her wandering footsteps had finally called her back however briefly it might be.

"And how have the two of you been keeping?" Setting her harp carefully down she reached for the bag of cookies. "And would either of you like a cookie? Or maybe I can play a tune for you if you like - I'm in the mood for playing songs.

Enikil
Enikil looked at the sprite in worry, seeing something hand changed but it wasn't in his place to ask. He lifted Aikori off of his shoulder and set the little lanturn on the ground. "Wandering alot? Must be fun to be able to do stuff like that" He said softly, watching the lanturn carefully.

Aikori smelt the cookie and was wondering if he could have one, but he wouldn't take one. He stood next to the other and smiled softly, looking up at Kaze. " Thanks!" He took the offered cookie and started to munch on it.

"Ah, no thanks, I've got to watch what I eat" He smiled softly, giving AIkori a questioning look when the lanturn snorted softly.

" He's wanting to watch his 'girlish figure' for that guy" AIkori seemed upset, munching moodily on his cookie.

"Aikori!" Enikil exclaimed, his cheeks turning pink.

kaze1981
Kaze gave a rueful smile "Well it keeps me busy and it lets me see new places.. And new people which is always fun."

She raised an eyebrow at Aikori's moody comment her grey eyes curious behind her glasses, but chose not to say anything not wanting to interfere. Instead she gestured to her harp "Do either of you want a song? Or maybe a particular sort of song?"

Enikil
"Oh I do I do!! Any song is fine!" Aikori seemed to brighten up as he moved over to stand beside Kaze. He seemed all fine with the blue haired women, though he seemed a bit moody with the red headed male. There seemed a bit of tention between the two, but the werebunny seemed to be confused about why the lanturn was mad at him.

"A song would be really nice Kaze" Enikil smiled, grabbing a near by seat and sat down on it. He loved all kinds of music, except for a few genres of course.

kaze1981
Kaze smiled, "Then I shall play something more cheerful" for a moment there's a mischievous glint to her eye. "Something I learnt in an old guest house." Her small fingers reached for her harp and stroked the strings experimentally before lauching into the the merry little ditty she had learnt a few months back.

++ [ Entry 6 - self roleplay ] ++

Kaze carefully poured out brownie mixture into a ready greased tin, having abandonned her usual cookies for baking brownies instead.

The lantern sat on the counter near by, the glowing jade lantern having been carefully placed out of reach of any potential splashes of brownie mixture.

The brownies was an impulsive thing - a sort of thank you if you will to Kori - although Kaze had no idea if the fallen angel even liked brownies. He wasn't a fan of cookies much - that much Kaze had found out the hard way after she had caught Kori dumping said cookies in the hallway outside his appartment along with a note saying 'help yourself!'

After that she'd stopped making cookies for the fallen angel.

Kaze found her thoughts drifting towards the other day when she'd met both Enikil and his little lantern spirit Aikori.

Aikori had seemed moody about something, although she'd tried distracting the green spirit with the offer with a song. Come to think of it he'd looked a little troubled too hadn't he.. Hadn't he?

It was hard for Kaze to tell and besides being away wandering as she had been for all those months meant that the half sprite hadn't seen friends like Enikil in months.

"I guess that's the trouble with running" she said ruefully and if the words were spoken in the direction of a certain lantern - well no one was there to sneer or laugh, or make some sarcastic comment... And it felt strangely.. Comforting, being able to talk to something, even if said something was a lantern flickering mysteriously.

"I just hope Aikori's all right" Kaze told the lantern. "Well him and Enikil, although to be honest Enikil looked all right to me."

The lantern flickered.

Kaze didn't find it strange to be talking to the lantern, it was comforting somehow to be able to voice her thoughts out and to be honest although Kori was her friend - even she knew better than to get sympathy from the fallen angel.

"Pity that Kirith never learnt that" she told the lantern. "Kirith's my mother's cousin" she explained. "So I guess that makes him my cousin too, but I'm not talking to him right now."

The brownies were placed in the oven and the timer set.

Next the mixing bowl was washed up and carefully put away. "I miss him sometimes" Kaze told the lantern abruptly. "Or at least I miss what I thought he was," the half sprite looked sad. "Turns out I never knew him at all and that hurts."

Kaze forced a smile, scooping up the lantern carefully "Ah but you don't want to hear about my woes" her voice was rueful. "Although it's not like you can answer back to tell me."

The half sprite gave a quick glance over the kitchen to make sure it was tidy, before heading towards her room.

As she walked she looked down at the lantern in her hands, making a mental note to check back on the brownies after half an hour.

"Tell you what, I'll play you a song to make up for boring you." She smiled at the lantern, for a moment imagining that it glowed a little brighter at the mention of a song.

But it was only imagination wasn't it? Wasn't it...

++ [ Entry 7 - self roleplay ] ++

The knocking at her room door made Kaze raise her head sleepily from the table, her body feeling stiff and uncomfortable and - oh... The lantern.

The blue-haired half-sprite shook her head slightly - she'd fallen asleep at the desk again, something that had been happening quite a lot that week and..

And ever since she'd bought that jade lantern from that strange little lantern shop she'd been having more and more dreams about a boy with green eyes. A green eyed boy'd called her mummy...

Kaze shook her head, the voice had sounded almost.. Familiar... As if she should know him, although she still didn't know what he looked like - just the fact that he had emerald green eyes alight with what looked like...

With if she didn't know better was curiousity.

...She'd known a child like that once before, once almost in another life. Had known him before the disaster and the mess with Kirith and her mother had changed things.

Before she had found out the truth to her magic and the strange, butterfly-like markings on her back.

Before she had found out that some truths were left unsaid... Unknown.

Someone was still knocking at her door, was..

"Kaze I know you're in there! Get up and get out, Mitsu's coming over today."

Oh right. Kori, although the fallen angel seemed more peeved than usual. "In a minute" she called back, wondering why Mitsukune was coming over. This'll make the third time this week...

"I hope so" came the irritated response. "I've been knocking for a good 20 minutes and I know you're awake."

Kaze made a face "I fell asleep at the desk".

"So?" came the unsympathetic response. "There's a pefectly good bed in there. You've got 5 minutes and make sure you take that lantern with you."

Kaze blinked. Now that had been.. Odd... Even for Kori and he could be a little odd sometimes. Personally Kaze blamed it with too much time spent in Mitsukune's company - after all their whole relationship was odd.

Kori hadn't exactly been forthcoming with how they had gotten together and Kaze wasn't sure she wanted to ask.. Come to think about it there was a lot of things she didn't know about Kori.

Yes she knew he'd once been an angel and had fallen from grace, but not why or how.

She'd also once seen a picture of a messy-haired angel in one of Kori's sketchbooks when she'd come in one time, but when she'd asked about it she'd received a chilly glare for her troubles and Kori had locked himself in his room for the rest of the night.

The flickering of the lantern caught her attention and she smiled ruefully at it. "He's got so many secrets," she told the jade lantern. "Like who that messy-haired man in his sketchbook was and how he hooked up with Mitsukune in the first place." Her smile saddened, "I kind of understand that he wants to keep it a secret though, after all there's a lot of secrets he probably doesn't know about me either."

Like Karura.. For instant, the spirit bird with whom she shared a soul bond - something that should have only happened to full bloodied sprites and probably the crux of most of her problems with the Air Court.

Not that Karura was active in her mind much, since the elegant spirit bird spent most of her time sleeping and Kaze wasn't powerful enough to summon her deliberately.

It was probably for the best though as the half-sprite wasn't sure she wanted Karura to be awake more, to have the bird have access to all her thoughts, to her memories...

"You've got a minute left."

Kori's voice made her blink, than shake her head again as she reached for the handle of the lantern with her right hand.

Too many memories...

With a rueful smile she unlocked and opened the door, the lantern in her right hand and a couple of books tucked under the other arm. Maybe she'd try the lantern shop again, strange though it might be it was also interesting to look at and maybe that way she could find out a little more about the lanterns.

kaze1981
Kaze muched absently on a cookie as she wandered into the shop, her grey eyes distracted behind her small oval glasses.

Tucked under her left arm was a small harp, the silverish-white, silver inscribed wood looking old if carefully cared for.

The blue-haired woman wondered if there would be anyone around - last time she had seen Enikil and Aikori.. but...

It's not like I pass by this way very often... Her lips quirked ruefully at the thought.

Mizu_Taji
This place felt so odd to Tayne. It was almost like a picture out of a fairy tale.

Almost.

But of course, any place where one wakes up after being revived from hypothermic shock would feel strange to anyone.

Blue eyes gazing about, she saw someone she hadn't seen before. Her ears receded to a point. An elf perhaps?

No, she was much to short to be an elf...

Brushing her dark violet hair out of her eyes she watched as the woman munched on a cookie, keeping to the shadows. She didn't mix well with people. They never seemed to take notice of her anyway.

A grey-hued paper lanturn swung on her arm, keeping it's light dim. Tayne was glad. She didn't want any attention drawn to her

Not yet anyway

Getsurei

A young girl stumbled into the shop. She looked around slowly and a large smile came to her face. Everything was so beautiful, it didn't seem real. The girl didn't get out much, except to get groceries or the odd supplies.

She then noticed a girl with blue hair. She hadn't seen anyone like her. She was aleast a foot or so shorter then the the pretty lady. She alowly walked up to her. "Hello."

kaze1981

Kaze blinked, her grey eyes startled as she turned to look in the direction of the voice.

A friendly smile crossed her lips though "Hello." The girl was an unfamiliar face - one Kaze didn't recognise.. Although considering how infrequently the half-sprite was around that was hardly surprising. The girl was also about a foot shorter than her, something Kaze privately thought was unfair - height.. Or more importantly her lack of height being a sore issue with the blue-haired woman and something she wished she hadn't inherited from Iarina.

The cookie Kaze was eating dangled in her hand and she looked at it before munching on it again.

"Would you like a cookie?" She asked the girl.

To some the statement might seem a little odd, but to those who knew the half-sprite it was typically Kaze question.

Mizu_Taji
Tayne watched as the short raven haired girl walked in, even shorter than the grey-eyed woman that continued to munch idely on her cookie. She blinked and then took notice of the taller one's harp for the first time.

Or at least she thought it was a harp. She'd actually had never seen one in real lifebefore, so she could have been wrong. Still, she found it a pont of interest. She looked down at her lanturn.

Yup. The light was still dim.

Tayne smiled in amazment at the little paper light, and quickly pondered how it stayed lit.

She then brushed off the thought and turned her gaze back to the two.

Getsurei
"Oh my goodness! Are you serious?" No one had ever given her anything. Her family didn't have alot of money, usually just enough to keep them alive. Her family was also very traditional.

The girls eyes wandered until they reached the harp. "Oh, its so shiny and pretty!" You could obviously tell she was amused by anything, it also didn't help that she was so young. "By the way, my name is Sana. Nice to meet you." The little girl bowed.

kaze1981
Kaze blinked again, the girl's response not quite what she was expecting before she nodded. "Sure, I tend to make a lot of cookies since I really like them" she smiled ruefully. "There's just something about fresh, just out of the oven cookies."

The smile faded slightly as the girl's eyes caught sight of the harp. "Thank you Sana, it was a..." She hesitated. "A gift." She shifted it slightly. "Something from someone who knew my mother."

The smile returned "And my name is Kaze, pretty much just Kaze."

"Hello Kaze."

Kaze squeaked slightly, fighting the urge to jump in surprise at the slighlty bored voice.

The owner, a tall red haired man stared at her in amusement, his blue eyes slightly mocking.

"Oh hello Mitsukune" Kaze gave him a polite smile that didn't meet her eyes. "Kori didn't tell me that you were staying late." She tried to half hide the lantern behind her back.

A crimson eyebrow lifted in amusement "I wasn't aware Kori told you anything. A smirk traced it's face across his face "And trying to hide whatever you're trying to stuff behind your back won't work. Why don't you show it here."

"Why don't I not" Kaze countered as she tried to sidle to her room door, remembering one time she had forgotten Kori's warnings and left one of her precious dragons in the kitchen... She never did find all the pieces...

Mitsukune moved to intercept her, easily towering over her one hand reaching out to grab at the lantern...

"What are you doing?"

Kori was back! If Kori had been anyone else but Kori, Kaze might have hugged him she was so relieved, though since this was Kori, maybe hugging wasn't a good idea, especially since from what she gathered Mitsukune was the jealous type.

Mitsukune shrugged moving away from her room door "Nothing of importance." He smirked crooking a finger at Kori. "Waiting for you to get back."

Kori ignored him, disappearing into the kitchen and Kaze decided it was better to escape into her room, taking the opportunity to both do so and lock the door behind her.

The lantern was placed carefully in its usual space on the bedside table and a packet of cookies sneaked out from its usual hiding place behind her elemental books.

On a whim the blue-haired half sprite found her hand closing on one of the books, bemusement flitting across her face when she realised that it was the ice book and then fading as a box fell out the contents spilling over Kori's grey carpet in a flash of silver and emerald...

It was a pale faced Kaze that scooped up the pendant, the silver and emerald necklace evoking memories that the half sprite would rather rather not face.

Especially since its owner had died a few years ago, the pendant the only momento she had.

Dear Ronfy.

Hiyas Ron-Ron how are you doing. It's been a while since we saw each other hasn't it?

Mayhaps we should meet up some time, I know you're busy but it'd be nice to see you.

I'm currently staying in the spare room of a friend, not sure for how long but not forever. I guess just long enough to get back on my feet or until he gets fed up and kicks me out *smiles ruefully*

And don't say that I'm too nice to be kicked out - I think Kori wants his spare room back.

Oh and what I wanted to write and tell you.. Well ok show you:-

Isn't it pretty?! I came across a weird little lantern shop and couldn't resist buying it, it's almost as if I was drawn to it somehow.. And it's beautiful, although it's always glowing.

The person at the shop told me to make sure the light never goes out, although he didn't tell me why. Maybe I can find out on my own (hopefully).

Oh and I'm sending you cookies, some of my homemade batch, no point in giving them to Kori as last time he gave them to the neighbours with a note for them to help themselves.

Hope this letter finds you well and hope you enjoy the cookies
~ Kaze heart

Kaze smiled to herself as she carefully placed the wrapped up cookies in the package.

It had been too long since she'd talked or written to Ronfy and she missed the taller red-haired girl.

Grey eyes flickered to the lantern and she gave it a smile. "How about I play you a tune later? You seem to like my playing and Kori's going back to Mitsukune's place so he won't complain."

The lantern flickered, the almost bright flickering that Kaze fancied meant yes and to which Kori would have told her that she was going crazy - well that is if Kori could read her mind.

Carefully slipping the letter into the package Kaze carefully sealed it and wrote the words 'F R A G I L E, ship with care' on it along with Ronfy's address before tucking it carefully under her arm.

Reaching out with her free hand Kaze picked up the lantern. "Come on lets get this posted, the sooner we do that and I cook - the sooner you'll get your song."

Quote:
Kaze,
Going to be out of town.
Back in 3 days.
Don't trash the place.

- Kori
P.S. If you lock yourself out, tough luck - either that or you can ask Mitsu to let you in - he owns a key.

Kaze blinked as she came across the note tucked in the door's letterbox.

Well that was to the point, though not really surprising...

Kaze looked bemused at the 'don't trash the place' line. "You'd think by now he'd figure out that I'm not the sort of person to trash anything" she told the lantern conversationally as she placed it carefully on the table. "And he knows there's no way I'm going to trek out to Mitsukune's place to ask him if I can borrow his key if by some chance, perish the thought that I get locked out."

Much as she was grateful to Kori for letting her stay, the fact that the fallen angel had disappeared out of town for reasons she suspected she would never know was something of a relief to the half sprite - for a start it meant that at least it meant that she could talk to the lantern without being subjected to a raised eyebrow from the fallen angel.. Even if on the flip side it meant that the fridge was now overly full.

Although truth be told Kori doesn't really eat anything much... Her mind pointed out.

Although Mitsukune does make up for it whenever he's around. Not that she was going to ring up Kori's red haired boyfriend - she'd have to be well desperate for that to happen and besides she'd have the place to herself for 3 days.

Kaze found herself grinning, even as a part of her pointed out that since Mitsukune had a key he might turn up at some point looking for Kori... Unless of course Kori had told him that he was going out of town for a bit.

Leaving the lantern glowing away on the table she disappeared into her room and emerged with her elemental book of ice and her stash of cookies, before disappearing into the kitchen and returning with a bowl of water.

It felt like an age since she'd done any magic proper, an age since she'd reached for the well of innate magic in that place deep inside of her. A place that in her mind's eye sparkled with ice crystals and sang with the different melodies of the wind.

It was her place - a place she'd always had, the rush she felt when accessing her gift like nothing else - not even cookies.

And something she shouldn't really be doing.. Not at the moment when the Air Court was looking for her.

Just a little wouldn't hurt though. She justified to herself. Nothing complicated and no air magic. A little ice magic, nothing big - nothing that will need more than this little bowl of water.

For a moment Kaze could almost sense the lantern flickering more slowly than usual, as if in anxiety.. But no, no that was only her mind playing tricks on her wasn't it?

Freezing the water with a small tendril of her magic, the half sprite couldn't help but feel a small flicker of forboding, but after a pause and no sudden knocks on the door she laughed a bit at her own stupidity.

"It's just a little bit of magic, nothing showy - No grand displays of power - It's not even the same type of elemental magic."

Carefully she used her magic to mould the now frozen water into a sculpture of the lantern, grey eyes half-closed in concentration beneath her glasses as she focused on getting every curve and every pattern etched onto the ice in front of her.

Around her she could feel rather than hear her magic sing, the feeling comforting, a presence she'd missed and not realised she'd missed.

And in front of her the lantern glowed, the now familiar light strangely comforting as she continued to capture it in ice.

"You're an idiot."

Kaze blinked awake slowly, grey eyes peering owlishly at the room. "Wha.." Her mind was sleep-fogged and if the half sprite didn't know any better she would have sworn that the voice sounded like Mitsukune.

"I said you're an idiot" the voice said conversationally, although there was an edge to it. "Which is funny since I could have sworn Kori said there was a brain beneath that pretty blue hair of yours."

That didn't just sound like Mitsukune it was Mitsukune. Slow to process the information, Kaze scrambled for her glasses, her hands closing on them just as she heard the shattering noise of ceramic meeting wood.

Glasses on she was faced with five feet eleven of pure seething Mitsukune, Kori's boyfriend managing to look quite intimidating.

Kaze's glance flickered to the table briefly, noticing that the lantern was ok and then looked away hoping that Mitsukune wouldn't notice it.

"Kori's not here" she finally managed.

"I know" was the cold response. "I came to see you."

Kaze stiffened, her grey eyes turning wary. She wasn't sure that Mitsukune coming to see her was a good thing. "About?" her voice was neutral.

"About why I was able to sense elemental magic clear across town."

Kaze stiffened even more, "I don't think that it's..."

"You don't need to play stupid, I know that you're supposed to be hiding from the Air Court although I don't know the reasons why. Kori is being surprisingly closed mouth on it." Mitsukune smirked in lazy amusment at the shock on Kaze's face. "And to be honest I don't really care, though I rather you weren't here since it means Kori feels that he actually has to be around to keep an eye on you and that's less time he spends with me."

Kaze gaped "Erm I doubt it - Kori's not exactly the nursemaiding type" she tried to get over the fact that she was having a somewhat normal conversation with Kori's creepy boyfriend, but it wasn't computing. "And I doubt he considers me a friend."

Mitsukune chuckled "Kori doesn't consider anyone his friend, hasn't done for longer than you've been around kid." He smirked as he noticed Kaze bristling at the word 'kid' and then the smile faded. "But for some reason he seems to like you - he certainly puts up with you better than the pointy eared, purple haired idiot he also works with."

Kaze blinked "Are you talking about.. Kirith." Her voice faltered on the last word, the memories brought up by her mother's cousin's name still painful.

Mitsukune's voice was dry "Does Kori know any other pointy eared, purple haired idiots?"

"Well.."

"Though you're just as bad, using elemental magic as casually as that - a sure fire way to say 'hey look at me, I'm here'." Mitsukune's voice was sarcastic.

"I.."

"I don't care about you and couldn't care less if the Air Court catches up with you" Mitsukune's voice was cold. "In fact I'd welcome it as it'd mean Kori would have to stop wasting time on you." Blue eyes gone pale with anger peered down at her "But I will not have Kori hurt because of your stupidity do you understand?"

Kaze blinked startled.

"Do you understand." There was a warning there, a warning she didn't quite get although the message was clear - hurt Kori and Mitsukune would hurt her back.

"I.. I understand" she said softly at last. "It is not my intention to hurt Kori, I consider him one of my friends even if he doesn't do the the same for me."

Mitsukune snorted "You're a sentimental idiot and it's sickening me" he sneered, before abruptly turning and heading for the door. "Tell Kori to call me when he gets back."

Kaze waited for the door to slam behind Mitsukune before surveying the damage.

Shards of broken ceramic bowl as well as chips of ice and dribbles of water lay on the floor, the water alreading seeping into the cheap wooden flooring that seemed to have come with the appartment.

For a moment - a brief moment - Kaze considered using magic to freeze the ice.

Then she thought better of it.

Catching sight of the slowly glowing lantern, Kaze gave it a rueful smile. "Well I guess that went better than expected." Moving it carefully away on to the sofa she disappeared into the kitchen and came up with some cleaning up materials. "Lets get this cleaned up and then I'll see if Kori owns any music" she told the lantern. "Goddess knows by now you must be sick of my harp playing."

The lantern was glowing brighter than usual, bathing the simple room in a pale jade colour. The occupant, a blue haired woman with white feathered headwings stirred slightly and sighed, but did not wake up, shifting instead into a deeper sleep.

The light continued to glow brighter in strength, the light pooling, finding it's way under the crack under the door until at last the occupant in the living room - one purple haired fallen angel irritably shifted his sketch pad to one side.

"Just what are you doing in there Kaze?" his voice was irritable, the light interrupting his concentration, making him unable to focus. Besides he'd warned Kaze about using magic - he didn't particularly want the Air Court descending on his doorstep especially since angels and sprites generally did not get on at the best of times.

Kaze was.. Well she was ok he guessed, certainly not as irritating as that purple haired brat of a cousin of hers, though she was too optimistic. Too nice - too much like him.

Hyacinthe...

Hyacinthe - his best friend from another life time and fellow angel. He was dead now though... Had died a while ago. Had...

And that stupid light was still glowing from Kaze's room.

Beyond irritated now the fallen angel moved to go get the spare key to the lock - that light had to go.

~ o ~ o ~ o ~

The light had faded somewhat from the lantern and if Kaze had been awake she would have noticed a figure standing next to it - a jade haired figure to be precise - light glinting off a solitary silver horn peeking out through the messy jade hair.

The figure peered round the room in interest, noting the many tiny dragons scattered round the room as well as the books, finally it noted the blue haired woman asleep on the bed and a bright smile crept across its face. "Mummy!"

~ o ~ o ~ o ~

"Trust Kaze to do something stupid like muck around with her magic" Kori muttered as he unlocked the door. "Kaze I'm coming in" he snapped irritably. "So you can just..."

"Mummy!"

"What the..." The fallen angel stared stupidly at the door - that hadn't been Kaze's voice... And besides - unless she was better at concealing things than he'd previously thought - then she didn't have a child - Any child... Well not since that time when she'd disappeared for a bit - something about her adopting a boy or something, although that seemed to have gone funny. Safe to say currently Kaze did not have a child.

Pushing at the door therefore he could only stare and then look on in growing dismay as he took in the young, unicorn-like boy in the room "Who the heck are you and what the hell are you doing here?"

Emerald green eyes looked curiously at the purpled haired man "I'm Arian" he said answering the first question and ignoring the second. "Can you help me wake Mummy up?"

Kori looked coldly at the unicorn boy "No, you're leaving."

Emerald green eyes stared puzzled at the purpled haired man "But I don't wanna, it's boring in there." He pointed to the lantern. "You can't see anything, all you can do is hear." He glared at the purple haired man. "And you're a meanie."

Kori shrugged "Whatever" he said. "Either way you're not staying and you can take that" he pointed to the lantern "With you".

"No! I want..."

"What's going on?" Grey eyes blinked sleepily from one to the other.

"What's going on?" Kaze asked again.

"Mummy!"

Kaze blinked as she found herself being tackled by a jade blurr, trying to fumble awkwardly for her glasses even as the boy spoke to her.

"..Going to make me go back.. Meanie.. You won't let him will you Mummy?"

Kaze blinked as the jade haired unicorn boy suddenly came into focus, then blinked again as she noticed that his messy hair was secured in a simple braid which looked rather familiar. "Arian?" Her voice was slightly shaky. "Are you Arian?"

There was a snort of disgust from Kori's direction but she ignored him her attention fully on the unicorn boy who was still hugging her.

"Yep that's my name" came the bright response, then he looked back at Kori anxiously "You won't let the meanie make me go back will you?" He trembled slightly. "Please don't let him make me go back."

Ten minutes later and Kaze had finally managed to convince Arian that no Kori wasn't going to make him go back into his lantern and no she was not going to let the fallen angel kick him out, although she wasn't sure Arian was convinced if the dubious looks he kept shooting in Kori's direction were any indicator.

The unicorn boy was sitting on Kori's sofa, thin arms clutching onto the lantern - well his lantern really, although she was still having trouble believing that he had popped out of it.

With a sigh she handed Arian a cookie, trying not to smile as the unicorn boy let go of his lantern with one hand so he could peer at the biscuit in interest.

"What's that?"

"It's a cookie."

"Cook-ie." Bright green eyes examined the biscuit "What's it for?"

Kaze smiled at the boy, ignoring Kori's snort. "It's for eating - it tastes really good why don't you give it a try - I'm sure you'll like it."

Arian eyed the cookie for a moment longer and then took a small experimental bite and chewed. His face brightened "It's good." Grinning he took a much larger bite out of the cookie. "Do you have any more?"

"Sure" Kaze said, rummaging for the packet. "I..."

"As touching as this is" said Kori in a voice that reeked of sarcasm. "Don't you figure we'd better figure out what to do with the brat?"

Kaze blinked. "He's not a brat" she said automatically.

"Whatever" came the cold response. "Then he's your latest stray and he can't stay here."

Kaze shrugged "Ok, then I'll find a hotel for the two of us" she told Kori calmly ignoring the look of shock that flickered across the fallen angel's face. "I've been imposing on you long enough as it is."

"That's not what I meant Kaze" Kori sounded almost - awkward. "If I didn't want you here I'd have told you."

Kaze smiled sadly "But you don't want Arian here and I won't leave him." She didn't know why she was feeling so protective of the unicorn boy, but she meant it - she wouldn't let her friend put him out on the streets - if Arian went she would go with him.

Kori glared at her "Be reasonable you idiot, my place's barely big enough for the two of us - where would he sleep? Does he even sleep?" he sighed "And then there's Mitsu - I mean he doesn't particularly like you and I doubt he'd like it either."

"He has got a name you know Kori" Kaze said, her grey eyes flashing as she finally started getting irritated at the fallen angel. "And it's not 'it' or 'brat' - it's Arian. He..." A tug at her sash cut her off mid-rant, her grey eyes softening as she peered at the unicorn boy.

"Are you going to leave me?" Emerald green eyes looked anxiously at her.

"No." Kaze smiled softly at Arian.

"Promise?" The now hopeful-looking green eyes looked earnestly at her.

"Do you want me to?" She asked.

Arian gave her a nod of his head in response, the simple movement causing his braid to whip.

"Then I promise Arian" she refused to look away from the unicorn boy as she spoke. "I Kaze promise that I will never leave you, not unless that's what you one day should want." She looked back at Kori, suddenly finding it hard to say anything eventually forcing out "We'll find a hotel in the morning. It won't take me long to pack and I..."

"One of you will have to take the couch" Kori's cold voice cut through her rambling.

Kaze found herself blinking. Did that mean..? "Are you.. Does that mean..."

Kori glared at her "That the brat can stay. Yes. Just keep him out of Mitsu's way and don't expect me to give up my room for him." He stalked towards his room, turning once to add "And keep him out of my stuff!" And then his room door was slamming and she and Arian were alone.

"Why is he such a meanie?" Arian asked at last interrupting the silence.

Impulsively Kaze gave the unicorn boy a hug, a sense of happiness unfolding when Arian returned it. "Don't worry, he's not that bad and he's like that to every one."

"Even you?" Arian's voice was small.

Kaze found herself laughing "Yes. Even me."
