A child is expected to know certain things at certain ages.
In order to obtain rights to their Dragon(egg), they must prove they can meet these requirements.

The following sheet is for your child to fill out, with mild help from their guardian, then sent back to D-corp. (PM ot the mule)

Also any changes, even minor such as haircuts, should be reported to the D-corp to be logged and filed.

Thankyou,
The Boss.

March 19th

Oliver blinked lightly as his mother handed him the tannish colored piece of paper. They had returned to the apartment after a weekend at Kami's home, and now she was presenting him with a funny piece of paper. He squinted, trying to read the words. He could read a few things, but wasn't so good at it yet. He improved with each day though. "Momma, what's this?"

Kami smiled. She had got the paper at the doorstep, incredibly pleased. It meant that Oliver would get to look after his dragon egg soon, or so she thought. "It's very special. Remember when I told you about the dragon egg?" she said, ushering over to the table and handing him a pencil.

Oliver smiled widely, looking excited. He knew about the eggs, and he wanted badly one for himself. He'd never seen one before though...only in his mother's dragon book. He peered down at the paper. "Momma, what do they say?" he asked curiously. He could read the letters, but had a hard time reading the words.

"The first says name. Write it down on the line." she instructed, sitting nearby.

Oliver smiled, and carefully wrote out the long version of it(as his mother said that that was the one to be used in formal writing, whatever that was). He tapped the next one carefully. "A....ag-e?"

"Age."

"Four years old!" he giggled as he wrote the word out, tail flickering.

"Now, the next one might be a bit difficult for you." sshe chuckled softly. "What's your favourite color?"

Oliver's eyes widened for a split second. That was a hard question! There were so many pretty colors. Blues, purples, yellow...then again, another color had become rather special to him lately. "I like green!" he said, nodding. There was lots of green outside, at Kami's house, and he'd come to love the outdoors very much. He started to write the word down, figuring that there was a g, and an r. Kami helped him with the last part, and he smiled.

"Alright, the last one. Who's your best friend?" she asked, sitting back to let him answer.

"Ooooh...." Oliver looked down thoughtfully. He didn't know too many people...he did like Sahra very much, but he'd only met her once, though he did see her as a friend. Then, he thought of it. "You, momma!" he cried, giggling. His mother, who had always been there so far. That's what a friend was, wasn't it? He liked her very much.

Kami blushed softly, and hugged her little one. "I guess that can count." she said softly and playfully, and let him know how to spell it. She ruffled his hair, and took the letter as he handed it to her, touched he should say herself. It made her feel rather guilty, it felt as if he should know more people to be best friends with. "Good job, Olly." she patted him, and stood to return the paper, quite eager herself to see what kind of dragon egg her little boy would recieve.

Kami glared softly at the door, as she began to lose her temper for the first time in a long while. "Oliver, if you don't come out this instant...." she paused to think of an appropriate threat. "You won't get dessert for a month!" she cried, tapping her foot. Once again, Oliver was refusing his evening bath. It was starting to get ridiculous, especially over the amount Oliver went outside.

The door swung open to reveal the young camel wrapped in a large bath towel, a very sad look on his face. "But momma, I don't need a bath!" he cried, giving his best sad look. He knew, of course, that this wasn't true. He hated baths though...his fur, which was quite thick, took forever to rinse and dry. nd no matter how hard he tried, he always seemed to get soap in his eyes or mouth. It was enough to drive a kid crazy!

Kami smiled gently, forcing her temper away. "Look Olly, you're filthy!" she explained, eyeing the dirt on his ankles and knees. She figured she understood part of the reason he hated bathing. "Listen, I got this new stuff that won't hurt your eyes as much. Besides...if you don't take a bath, you'll get stinky." she said, smirking herself as she saw a smile creep onto the camel's face. "You wouldn't want that, would you?"

Olly couldn't help but smile. That was a funny word. Heaving a defeated sigh, he wandered forward, figuring he'd give the new shampoo a try. "I guess not..." he said, and entered the bathroom for the dreaded bath.

~~~~~~Later~~~~~
Oliver snoozed quietly on the couch next to his mother, who was scribbling in a quick journal entry before bed.
Journal entry
Hey Journal!
Oliver sure is growing to be a big boy. Tonight I didn't have to chase him down for his bath, he's been getting much better about it. I think I might even be able to get him to take his own baths soon! He's a good listener as well, and almost always listens when he argues, instead of just running away, like he used to.
In other news, Olly's going to be able to see his egg soon(I think). He absolutely can't wait, and he's been reading his dragon book a lot. He asks a lot, and I think he's going to make a very responsible...owner? I'm still not so sure about a child's relationship with their dragon, but I'm sure we'll find out soon.
More news soon!
Oliver smiled as he sat down with his brand new journal. His mother had given it to him recently, and since he'd had plenty of practice and knew how to write, for the most part, it had been decided that he would keep his very own journal. It was a pretty green, and decorated with stickers Kami had provided. Taking up a pencil, he thought quietly, trying to think of what he would put down.
His Very First Entry
Dear Journal,
Hi! This is my very first jurnal entry...momma said that I should write about my experiences in here, so I'll do my best. It's mostly for fun, she said, but I think it's mostly a good idea.
I want to see my dragon! I think I make momma crazy when I ask to much...but she said I'd get to a while ago, and I still haven't! She says that I get to see the egg when we go to a place called...a inkubashun fasility. I do not know how to spell that word. Anyway, that's what she said, since tha eggs are special and can't stay at home in regular places. It makes sense, I guess. Like how I can't take brefast eggs out of the frigerator. I hope I get to see mine soon...
I wonder what kinda dragon it will be. I sorta hope its a boy...then we can play outside more. I don't think girls really like that sorta thing, none that I met yet have. But they do like bord games, wich is also good as playing out doors. Oh well. Only a matter of time!
Speaking of girls, I got to meet another one recently. Sahra was my first friend ever, sorta, but it seems like a very long time since I saw her. The girl I met was named Liang. She's really pretty...a bird, or something. She had red and blue feathers, and really big pretty wings. Sometimes I wish I could be colorful, like her, and some of the other kids.
Pretty soon I'm gonna be learning my skill, and I've been reading a lot in my camel book so I'll be ready. I'll write about it more after I learn...I hope it goes okay....
Oliver was busy filling in a new form Kami had given him. It reminded him a lot of the last one he'd got a while ago, except it had more questions...and he even got to color on it. He was so excited...seeing his egg had been great fun. And now, Kami had told him that the egg would have soon enough, to reveal his dragon. That would be even better...hopefully he'd be able to touch it, unlike his egg. He filled the form out carefully, doing his best to check spelling. It all seemed good to him...
Kami was busy as well, scribbling down a quick entry into her journal.
Our Trip to the Incubation Facility
Hello Journal!
We finally got a turn to visit the incubation facility in D-corp. We went only a few days ago, and, needless to say, I think we both found it quite amazing. It's astounding how those scientists find ways to sort so many different kinds of eggs, and it was interesting to see each different type. Of course, Olly was ecstatic to finally see his. I think he was a little disappointed at not being able to touch it, but he'll get to meet his dragon soon enough, after it hatches. I rather wish he'd asked when exactly it was going to hatch, so we'd know when to expect it.
Oliver's dragon sounds as if it will match him rather nicely, in species preferences, at least. The instructor said that Brass dragons liked arid, desert-like places, just like camels do. She also said they're talkative...and in the past I might have been a little concerned, but I'm sure Olly will have no problem with it, or at least I hope. It sounds like it could be quite the handful, since they're apparently quite intelligent, and can have minds of their own. I guess we shall see, when the time comes.
Another update soon. Bye for now!
September 2nd
Oliver rubbed his eyes as the sun shone softly through his window. From he moment he'd become conscious of the new day, something had told him that it would be no ordinary day. Mostly because of the funny noises that seemed to come from downstairs on occasion. He'd been fighting to sleep over them for some time, and he finally sat up and slid out of bed, yawning and rubbing his eyes. The little camel mumbled and whimper when he saw the time--8am. He liked to sleep in on Saturdays...but oh well. Might as well go find out what the commotion downstairs was about.
"Mmm...mom? What's all that...AAH!" He jumped as the creature leapt out at him and let out a myriad of funny noises, clicks and chirps. "Wh-what the heck!?" he cried. Still a bit sleepy, it didn't hit his mind that something very special was standing before him. Kami normally didn't let her pets come in through to the apartment. "Did someone get through the closet on accident?" he asked, watching the reptile for a moment as it sat back to look up at him, giving an eager trill.
Kami looked up, and laughed softly. It had all started much earlier for her...around five in the morning, when a subtle knocking at the apartment door had woken her. Quite disgruntled, she opened the door only to be greeted by a strange man...one of the D-corp employees. And what had he shoved into her hands? A hyperactive young dragon. The perfect addition to anyone's early morning experience. He'd instructed her lightly and then left. "Why Olly...I'm surprised. Don't you recognise it?" she asked, smiling tiredly.
Olly's tired brown eyes widened a little. "A dragon!! Is it....is it from the egg we saw a long time ago!!??" he cried, looking down at the little brown thing in astonishment. It had seemed like forever since that had been. He was speechless for a moment, and the dragon clicked eagerly, tail swaying behind him. Olly practically pounced the creature, needing no confirmation. Hugging the little dragon around it's neck, he laughed happily as it clicked into his ear.
He only pulled back a short few moments later, when questions began to swarm his mind. "Is it a boy or girl dragon? Does it have a name?" he asked, looking over to his mother, and petting the creature, who didn't seem to mind the contact at all. In fact, it merely let out another squawk at the menton of a name, moving to n** at the corner of Oliver's shirt.
"The D-corp employee who brought him this morning said that he was a boy. And...no. I think you're supposed to name him. Or at least help him find a name." she chuckled, and yawned, thoroughly ready to go back to bed. "Try to give him a good one, okay? I'm gonna go back to sleep..." she said, and wandered out of the kitchen yawning, a light smile on her countenance. Things were certainly going to be more interesting with this new addition to their apartment.
Oliver nodded vigorously, and simply sat back after his mother left, looking at his new friend. He considered him a friend of course,,,and certainly not a pet. Dragon's were too intelligent for that! "So...a name." he looked thoughtful. "If I'd thought we got to help name you then I'd have looked for a good name ages ago." he smiled lightly as the dragon chirred after he was done talking, as if in reply to his comments. "Don't worry, we'll find you a real good one....let's go up to my room." he said, and hopped up, giving the dragon a little tug before darting off.
Olly closed the door to his room and glanced back as the earth-colored reptile explored the new space, sniffing, and clicking, before finally turning back to look at Olly in question. The camel boy giggled. "Alright, let's see..." he looked to his bookshelf, and pulled one of them down, revealing it to be a namebook.
"This should help us out. There are plenty of cool names in here!" he said, and opened it up randomly. "Let's see...what kind of name would be good..." he looked back to the table of contents. It was a very nice name book, because it listed names from other languages instead of just english. "How about something exotic?" he said, chuckling as the dragon cocked his head, finding the Hawaiian section of the book. He'd seen pictures of the place, and it looked pretty. "How about I read the names out, and you tell me which ones you like?"
The dragon smiled, tongue lolling a bit, and he trilled loudly, wings unsettling and settling again, making a soft rustle. Olly wasn't entirely sure if he understood, but went on. "Okay...how about...Kaila? Mm...no. That's too girly sounding. Keahi, Nahele, Bane..." he glanced up at the dragon, who was blinking a little, making a face at the last couple of names. "Hah, I get you..." he said, and continued to look. "Loana, Mikil, Kiele?"
The dragon shook his head. None of those sounded...fitting, to his dragon-ish ears. He squeaked, and pawed Oliver's knee, urging him on to find more.
"Maybe we should try a different section..." he said, and turned the pages, looking for something interested. English, too boring, French...maybe. Ooh...here was a section called 'Romani'. "Hanzi? Emilian?" The dragon shook his frilled head. "Ooh...Trace? That means brave!" Olly smiled widely. That one had struck a positive chord in him.
The dragon lifted his head a little, and squawked, intrigued by the way Olly had raised his voice. It sounded good! So he nodded vigorously, raising up on his hind legs and resting his hands against his chest and belly, tail thumping on the floor.
Olly laughed. "Trace it is, then." he put the book aside, and slid to the floor to hug his new companion again. "We'll be great pals, I hope!" he said, and laughed as Trace growled into his ear, a soft, unmenacing sound. "I bet you're hungry...let's go get some breakfast!"
And with that, Olly lead Trace down again to eat and show him around the apartment, the talkative little brass dragon chirping in reply all the while.
October 26th
The invitation had come in the mail earlier that afternoon, and Oliver had only just returned from a class when Kami had given it to him. The little camel knew well what hallooween was, even though this would be his very first one. The other kids in the family had told him plenty of their own exciting stories to give him a good idea. He raced up to his room, where Trace was lounging, in order to show and read his friends the exciting news. Kami, of course, would let him go to the party. It was going to be great!
"We get to go in costumes! And there'll be candy and yummy food. Kami even said she'd take us trick-or-treating afterwards!" Oliver's voice was raised in his excitement. But one problem posed itself...what would he dress up as? There were so many good choices to choose from...he sat back and looked thoughtful, reaching up to pet Trace as he crawled up onto the bed.
The brown dragon blinked, and chirred in slight confusion. The boy spoke of such silly things sometimes! But he understood...and he especially understood the words 'candy', and 'food'. Olly had long since found out that Trace could be a very naughty creature, and the dragon often went after foods that weren't exactly meant for him. Humans were so lucky! They got to eat all the sweets and yummy things. He snorted softly, and pushed up under Olly's arm, wanting to see the pictures on the invitation.
"What should I be for halloween?" he asked aloud, and poked at the dragon's side, causing a rather shrill chirp as Trace shuffled to shove the camel's hand away. He squawked at him, as if to say 'How should I know?' and went back to observing the invitation, wishing he could read what was on the paper. He didn't quite understand what 'dressing up' was anyway...Olly already wore clothes, didn't he?
"Maybe pirate....but I bet everyone will dress up as that." he huffed lightly, and drummed his fingers in thought. What would a camel look good as? He could go as a camel...but that would be silly. He perked up for a moment. "I know...how about a desert-like costume?" he smirked at the thought. Colorful robes...and those hats that covered your neck so that the sun couldn't burn. But what was that called? He'd have to ask Kami later. "And you...you can be a mummy." Olly laughed softly to himself as Trace looked back, seeming just as oblivious as before.
He hopped off of the bed and skittered over to his desk, and the laptop Kami had set up in his room, to help with homework and such. It would be easier trying to explain the idea to her if he had a picture in his mind of what he wanted. Trace watched with limited interest, and began to nibble on the edge of the paper, bored now.
"Aha! Like...a sultan!" he said, and giggled. "That's what I wanna be." He hopped down and went over to flop onto the bed and run a hand down his dragon's side, amused over the thought of him as a mummy. "I hope she says yes. This is going to be really great!"
Trace yawned, and flopped over onto his companion to gnaw on his shirt, wondering how 'fun' this was actually going to be. He slicked and chirred to Olly, a long dragon sentence. He had better get something good out of this, and he licked his chops at the thought of candy.
((Sorry to Ara about the fact I haven't made any posts in here since October...I have been RPing however, though I really should have made a follow-up to the Halloween post. Now that the semester is almost over I have the summer to be more active.))
November 4th (2006)
The week before and after Halloween had been a blast for the youngster and his dragon friend. He had gotten to dress up as what he wanted, and Trace had even gone with his little plan. They had made a cute little duo. The plans had been somewhat changed, though. Archard definitely hadn't spent as much time as he'd wanted at the Halloween party as he'd wanted. Kami had made it up to him, however, and they had gone out trick-or-treating the entire evening on Halloween, and he'd even been allowed to stay up a bit later than he was usually allowed.
And of course, when they'd gotten back home he'd had a grocery back filled to the brim with candy. He'd been forced by his mother to eat it in moderation, though he'd managed to sneak a good amount into his room, to hoard in appropriate places, snickering softly to himself, and tossing Trace a piece every once in a while. He had to be careful about it, kami scolded, because dragons could probably get sick if they ate too much candy too. He wouldn't want to have to explain that to the doctors at D-corp, would he?
Trace himself had been quite amused over the whole trick-or-treating process, despite his rather silly mummy costume. He'd accompanied his boy to each and every house, and had managed to keep himself out of trouble at the same time, chirrupping, squeaking, and trilling each step of the way, and asking an endless trail of questions in his native dragon language. Even though Olly didn't understand he always seemed to be able to answer most of them.
The whole night went without a hitch, save for one spot of trouble. The night had indeed been full of tricks, and, as expected, the older crowds always tended to be more rowdy, with their prankster ways and much more sinister costumes. Rounding a bend in the sidewalk the young dragon had taken the lead, but was halted dead in his racks at the sight of a rather icky looking bloody skull mask. The young dragon had balked, and fled, darting across a dark street into the bushes on the other side.
Things could have been much worse, but there hadn't been any traffic. After scolding the kids, Kami had escorted her young charge across the street to recover the startled Trace, and they had proceeded, Olly having made sure Trace stayed at his side, which the dragon then seemed very keen to do, after his little scare.
The two snuggled down into the boy's bed that night, absolutely tuckered out, but very happy. It had been a wonderful first Halloween for both, and neither could wait for next year to come....
Oliver meets Medusa and Azoc in a clothing store. [x]
Oliver
Heya Journal.
I met some new friends at the clothing shop today! They were really weird animals, but really neat too. One was named Medusa, and she was a jellyfish...it was so so weird, because you could see right through her. She was super nice though. I'm gonna bug mom to see if she can come over sometime. I was kinda scared at first, cause jellyfish sting(right?), but she didn't sting me.
I wonder why I keep running into girls. Not that I'm complaining. They're nice and all...I miss Donat. I haven't seen him in forever...I oughta call him sometime.
Anyway! The other girl was named Azoc, and she's Medusa's sister. She's...a crab...or a lobster. Yeah, lobster I think. It's funny cause she has claws.. I shouldn't laugh, but I can't imagine how she handles things. Or writes. Or plays video games!
But yeah...that was my day at the mall. Mom didn't want Trace to come because she thought he'd slow us down. I won't let that happen again. This is it for now. I just wanted to get their names down, before I forgot!
Journal Entry; Kami
Well, my little guy finally got his vaccinations. It seems like things have really begun to pick up for Oliver now. I'm so proud of him, and he's been attending classes much more regularly now, part because of the shots issue, and also because they have made it easier to schedule things, which is wonderful for me.
He seems very excited about it all, if not a little apprehensive. He doesn't seem to want to learn to fight, but told me that he's more excited about magic classes. It's nice to see him actually eager over school...a rare trait in a child, really. Then again, nothing is really that boring living at D-corp, so I guess he has a good reason to be excited! It warms my heart to see him become so eager and outgoing, unlike the shy little thing he used to be.
Speaking of outgoing, Trace is just as much so, and seems to be growing bigger with each passing day. He knows several words and phrases in english now...I'm not sure how fast these things are able to learn english, but it's pretty amazing, considering it hasn't really been that long since he hatched. Oliver has hours of fun teaching him, and they've become incredibly close. I ought to try and find more people for those two to meet up with, really. I don't think Trace has met a single dragon yet. I keep relying on classes for them to make friends but so far they have just been single teacher-student classes. But, enough rambling...I'm sure they'll find friends in time.
