chouthenekoarmyveteran The Iron Magus chouthenekoarmyveteran >.> Xmas? -_- Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that started by someone who decided Christ had nothing to do with Christmas? Wuyabi You guys do realize that they've always made a point of calling it X-mas instead of Christmas, right? Gaia's always tried to be PC. It just hasn't always been noticeable. Okay, you're wrong. So is Wuyabi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XmasXmas is properly pronounced Christmas. And means... Christmas. It has nothing to do with being politically correct. chouthenekoarmyveteran Sorry Tim but I don't think I agree with the dechristanisation of Christmas. Seeing as it was started by the Catholic Church for that reason. (The fat man was remade as a way to keep children nice all year long. As apposed to his more vulgar past.) They chose the day for two reasons. One to abolish the Peagan religion, Which still has a following to this day. And two Because it seemed like a good day being so close to the end of the year. But the holiday was meant for the "Celebration of Christ's birth" Thats why it's called Christmas, Christ's Mass. Like a church comes to mass. See it now? I'm open for debate on this if you wish it. Truly though Christ's birth was more likely in early fall. But the holiday was started before people looked back in history deeply. So the church chose Christmas. Back on subject: I don't like the PC-ness but what are we gonna do about it? Gaia will be Gaia. And on this they probably won't budge. See it now? I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be seeing. I know what Christmas is about. I just don't believe in any of it, any more than I believe in Santa Clause. It's still a great holiday, though! biggrin I enjoy the secular aspects of it... holiday cheer, family togetherness, gift-giving, good food, candy canes, the shiny decorations... So, I'm losing nothing if the entire holiday is secularized. >.> Wikipedia article....... xD Theres just no way to go into a debate with you is there? I enjoy the niceties of the holiday myself as well. The tree thing still ticks me off though. Why do they have to be so politically correct here? I mean come on! Even WALMART sells CHRISTMAS trees......you'd think the gaia staff wouldn't have to lick the boot heels of some arrogant upper in order to bring in more users but.....I guess thats what they've decided to do. As was the anti tobacco movement so comes the anti affiliational holiday movement. Wikipedia! *thumbs up* There's always a way to go into a debate. Do you really want to? I don't think this is anywhere near the magnitude of the tobacco ban, though. Not like they're banning the entire holiday, and all its trappings.

I'm cool with being at least somewhat inteligable in your eyes. Rather not come off as some redundant overbearing p***k. Probably not. But who knows what will be next? the removal of the cross? I should hope not but it may come off as a "symbol of religion" and be removed. Even though the crucifixtion of a human was made as a punishment.

Well, me being a devoted christian, I'm totally against the de-christianizing thing. The Christmas tree thing doesn't bother me though since it really doesn't have anything to do w/ Christ being born. Yeah, sure ill debate things w/ anyone, but yeah... I thinks it wierd how some people love the christmas season but are atheists.

I get even more pissed off that it's on Gaia too. RESPECT SOME OF THE OTHER RELIGIONS FOR ******** SAKE! Just some gelt or a menorah or a dreidel, those aren't that hard to draw! D:

The largest group after that is the 15% who identify as non-religious, followed by Jews, at only 1.4%. Then you have all the other religions, which are even tinier populations. Looking at the numbers that way, is it really any surprise that they're focusing on Christmas? Er, I'm sorry... I mean, "X-mas?"

personally, I don't care either way. I don't like christmas trees either way, regardless of what you call them. they're a pain to set up, and the real ones make a mess toward the end. ninja
As to the PC movement, I agree. It's stupid. I've actually seen more people offended by a "politically correct" term than the "offensive" term. (example: most black people I know call themselves "black", not "African American"), and this whole "christmas" thing is just one of the situations. Call it what you want, I don't care. But don't get mad at me if I call it something different.
