Harvested Sorrow I have a difficult time naming people who steal songs from others (Dazed and Confused among them) as the best band, so Led Zeppelin is already out. I'd have to draw the line somewhere between Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, The Allman Brothers Band, the Grateful Dead, and King Crimson. The Beatles only released one album in the '70s, which was considered one of the low points of their later career, so I couldn't include them. That's not 100% true. That was the low point in their career relationship wise with their disagreements about the band, leading to their break up. But their music never declined, it just seemed to get better as they got older. True, Sgt. Pepper was better than a later album like Abbey Road, but they're both quality works. But I still can't say The Beatles, because they're not 70s. So I'd have to go with maybe The Grateful Dead (although they were alot of the 60s too), The Who (Although their songs were declining), or The Clash, which basically formed in the late 70s, so they count too. Ok, maybe I don't like 70s rock too much. The 60s were better. (see sig)

I'd have to say Led Zeppelin as well. With the amount of talent each player had/has, I don't think there's another band that could but that much impact on its fans. Long live Bonham.

sorry to break it to ya, Bonham's already dead.
anyway, I think that Led Zeppelin was a bit overrated. john paul jones was an amazing all around musician, Bonham an amazing drummer, plant an amazing singer, and page an amazing songwriter, but mediocre player.
To be completely honest, I don't know what the best band of the 70's was, because in my opinion, that's the era of the best bands
I think hendrix died sometime after 1970, so I'm going to say:
Jimi hendrix and the sun and rainbows band/band of gypsies

my favorite 70's album is the 1971 Doors album L.A. Woman, considered to be their best album after their "decline," if you can call it that.....
I don't see why people say The Soft Parade sucked, it's one of my favorites, but that's neither here nor there
