I only like the music to 'em, it makes for pretty good "easy listening".
Of course, i often listen to GONG at almost full blast, so you can see why i call them "easy listening". xD

Some of the "Test" vids i like, others i don't, only Sound Test and Final Test have any real point in having as listening, the others are just for actually watching.

Personally I like the light hearted Gensokyo that is in the games. Now on the other hand I do love J-horror and actual monster and demon myths. I enjoy the sound test videos alot because the show that sort of thing.. now things like the infamous "BAD END" comic.. that's complete crap. Period. The artist didn't even try to stay close to the characters personality and went out of there way to make things beyond grimdark, and really for no logical reason. That sort of thing really is no good. Like for instance.. why would Yuyuko eat Chen, who serves Yukari her long time friend? Even in a grim dark world that makes no seance at all. Its there for shock value only. I think grimdark touhou can be good, like the sound test videos, but only if they are done logically and responsible.

Indeed... technically the touhou characters are Japanese monsters, so having a setting where they act more like monsters makes seance, but I think things like that (and its not the only one) take it too far. Like the comment about Yuuka earlier... I think people make her out to be too murderous.. Really in canon works they talk about how really, she doesn't even feel the need to fight or kill things weaker then her unless they foolishly wander too close or provoke her. she even goes to the human village to buy agricultural supplies from the flower shop. A lot of Japanese monsters are that way.. they only get you when your foolish and wander alone and the like.
