Musewars-Solo Quote: I can still see it when I close my eyes. The bleached wood, crusted thickly with salt in drifts and scuffs, as though one were becoming the other. I can still taste it, the copper of blood from my mouth, and the roaring bite of so much salt that it sucked the moisture from my skin even as it made an mock of seasoning my own wounds, like a well tended cut of meat. I can even feel it under my hands, thicker than sand, sharp and forming delicate glassy jags where crystals fuse together. The Salt fields that ground me through their jagged teeth. A man might think himself strong, and world wise, but I can think of no man who, at least in my mind, is strong enough to emerge from the other side of such an place unchanged. He leaned back in his chair with an irritated grimace, running his fingers through his hair with annoyance. He'd been falling off his writing lately, and as a result, whenever he did manage to get online, he was finding requests, (and demands) for more writing from "Kitsunetrick", his online alter ego. One problem was that "Kitsunetrick" was mostly his ID for writing fan fiction... and he really wasn't in the mood these days... and the other was that he wasn't sure what to do with what he DID write. No that wasn't true, he liked the little piece he'd just completed, but he wasn't sure where to go with it. He'd gotten the idea from one of his exhausted dreams, but it hadn't been much more clear than what he had. Really frustrating. Parker would probably think it was a spectacular piece of writing just because it was @(#&@3ing depressing at the moment. He blamed that on the nagging frustration of trying to balance his 'two lives', and on the continued bad rep that Senshi in general had. Still, meeting up with some others had helped... or helped a bit anyway. He still had school to deal with, and really, seriously, he was about ready to punch out that little a** kisser who everyone seemed to favor. (He suspected mob ties.) And also his own grades, in spite of his own usual ability to just cruise, had been taking a bit of a hit. That's what you got when you kept spending more time trying not to doze off in class than listening. "This sucks." He sighed heavily, pinching his nose and scowling, then leaned forward again to turn off the computer. "How the hell am I supposed to keep up with everything." ((430 words)) ((This includes the quote part which I also wrote.))

[Twisted Tran-sister]- Solo 738 words
The small speaker in the phone made a soft 'BRRRRRRR' sound as it rang the other line, a continent away, and he listened to it thoughtfully, eyes distant.
The line about being under the hospitality of the earth court nagging at him as he listened to the phone ring once ... twice more. Being a twin had always made him feel a little alien. Something exotic and strange, compared to most people, who didn't come with that 'second half'.
Being Senshi had made it stronger. So had Hillworth... and that meeting, and it left him feeling around in the dark rooms of his mind for any sense of familiarity.
So he was trying to reach her.
He thought she wasn't going to pick up, and sucked in a breath, preparing to leave a message on her machine when there was a small 'click'.
"Celeste Leontyne. Speak." Her alto voice was smooth, faintly dismissive, and distracted, with the muted roar of voices in the background.
"Cee. It's Jaimie!" He brightened at the sound of her voice, and his grin crept into his own tone. "Thought I'd try and catch you. Sounds like you're having fun. Where are you?"
"Jay?" He could almost hear her eyebrows raise, reflecting her surprised tone, and then she smoothed it out as though she were petting the wrinkles out of a skirt. "I'm getting coffee with Ariane and Ciel."
The names were unfamiliar but she didn't offer any introductions of them. "There's no class today." She sighs faintly, and he suspected she was examining her nails for chipped paint. "So we're doing some shopping."
"Sounds like fun." He leaned back, crossing his feet at the ankles. "Get anything good?"
"Some new dresses, and some really pretty jewelry. Should i pick you up anything or are they just going to confiscate it?"
"I'd ask you to send some of those chocolates you were talking about but I know the shipping is a pain in the a**. And then I'd have to explain to dad."
"You don't -like- those chocolates." He was familiar enough he could almost see her lean forward, the faintest frown creasing her forehead. "So explain to me."
"Well they're not FOR me." He shrugged, broadly, as though she could see the gesture, and in her own minds eye, maybe she could, as he continued, feeling unexpectedly defensive, as though he'd done something wrong. "They're for a girl here."
"... It's a trap Jay. There are no girls at Hillworth." Her tone smirked, wryly amused, and he rolled his eyes.
"Har de Har. She's from Meadowview. She's on the swim team. Smart kid."
"How... athletic." Her tone became forced boredom, with a side of delicate indifference. "What's your new puppy's name? And is she training well?"
"It's Tallulah. Tallulah C..."
"Tal-LU-lah? Really Jaimie? You're buying chocolate for a girl named Tallulah? Does she give a damn? Make dresses from the curtains?"
Neither of them had ever actually seen Gone with the Wind, but she referenced what she'd heard of it. "Honestly Jaimie. I don't know much about her but are you that hard up for entertainment?
"Cee..." He let out a thin sigh through his breath, feeling his shoulders tighten. "Cee it's not Gone with the Wind. She's on the swim team and she works at the animal shelter."
"Oh thats SO cute. What else? Do you two date by chaining yourselves to a tree? Am I going to have to break it to father that you'll be requiring a soy burger instead of a fillet minion?"
"She hasn't converted me to vegetarianism, Cee." He sighed again, rolling his eyes.
"Oh so she is?" The young woman on the other end of the line pounced on this tidbit with the voracity of a starving fighting dog, and the honeyed voice of a politician. "Oh Jay, thats So... quaint!"
"Cee..." He surprised himself by noticing the flush of anger flaring up from his gut to the back of his throat. He couldn't remember the last time Cee had evoked a reaction other than laughing and joking. Had she changed? Or... surreal as the thought seemed... was it just a matter of perspective. "Cee I've gotta go. Enjoy your shopping."
"Aw, Sorry Jay. I was really starting to enjoy hearing about Tallulah-does-the-Hula."
"Bye, Cee." He clamped his jaws firmly, shutting his eyes in frustration as he put down the phone, not waiting for her reply.
