Last day of the Summer Break (Ellie Spectre)
Word Count: 595

(OOC Note: This RP is meant to be linked with the two regular RPs that follow. Meant to be "slice of life.")

Ah, summer break. A time for the students to relax and indulge themselves a bit more in that thing called life. A time when most of the students procrastinate with their summer homework and rush to do it the day before class resumes. However, this isn’t the story for everyone. Occasionally, a rare student will have all their summer homework finished well before the end of summer, and get the chance to spend that last glorious day relaxing.

Despite finishing her homework quite early, the last day of summer break was not going to be a day to relax for Ellie.

The day had started off normal enough for a lazy summer day. She woke up early and scrambled out of her pajamas to sloppily replace her sleeping clothes with a work jumpsuit. On her way out the door, she grabbed a microwaveable burrito from the freezer for her breakfast. The blonde could care less if her parents didn’t like the fact she ate these without heating them. Microwaveable food was already pre-cooked, so that meant it was fine for consumption.

She went around towards the back of the house where the garage was. With a rather chipper smile, she hoisted the large garage door open and looked at her prized work proudly. Anybody else would have realized it was really just a heap of junk, but for Ellie, it was a masterpiece waiting to happen. She meandered over to the back corner of the garage where she had a mirror and a table set up. Squeezing onto the packet she had in her hand, she popped open the burrito pack and chowed down. Tossing out her trash when she finished, the girl then took up a spare cloth and tied her hair up.

"Alright! Time t'get t'work!" she told herself in a determined fashion. With that, she shoved herself under the partially completed vehicle. She'd spent about half the day working and tinkering with her project before taking a break. By then, the girl's skin was dotted with splotches of oil. Wiping her brow, she exited the garage and went back to the kitchen. It was as she was about to open the freezer again for a second microwaveable burrito when she spotted a small yellow square of paper stuck to the fridge. She plucked the post-it note off the door and read it silently to herself:

Ellie – Don't forget to do your back to school shopping today. Love, Mom

It was only thanks to this small little piece of paper that Ellie suddenly realized something. School was starting back up TOMORROW!! Having been thrown into a panic, the blonde ran back to her room and began to get ready to go out. She wasn’t a particularly vain, but as a teenage girl, she did have her limits as to what was acceptable to wear for an outing. She once again quickly tossed off her jumpsuit and replaced it with a shirt with the sleeves torn off and black pants that were ripped along the kneecaps. Haphazardly, she attempted to wipe off the oil spots on her skin, but there was always at least one that managed to avoid getting cleaned.

Grabbing a backpack from the floor of her room, she then raced down the stairs and quickly fled the house. She remembered to lock the door and lock up the garage, but she forgot to get herself lunch. Oh well, there were more important matters to tend to, like her last minute shopping. So much for the last day of summer being "relaxing."

The End of Sanity (Ellie Spectre)
Word Count: 908

The school year had been in session for about a week, and life seemed to be settling down into the predictable pattern it usually took around this time of year. Ellie’s day still started off early, promptly waking up at 5 am just for the sake of waking up early. She couldn’t help it if she got plenty of sleep all the time and never felt that weight of exhaustion upon her shoulders.

Despite being early to rise, she still didn’t beat her parents up. By the time she got up, her parents were both long out of the house. Their jobs were on the other side of the large city. Her mother was a secretary for a very important executive. Her father was a used car salesman. It was partially her father’s fault she came to love cars so much. She strolled down to the kitchen in her Thursday School uniform. As she went down the stairs one by one, she couldn’t help but think about her life slightly. She had always heard of families that saw each other everyday in the morning and had a nutritious breakfast together. Such an idea was a myth in Ellie’s life. The blonde smirked a bit, contemplating if she’d even appreciate such a thing, or if it would just be “weird.”

Walking into the kitchen, she opened up the freezer and pulled out her favorite breakfast food, the infamous microwaveable burrito. Tossing it into the microwave, she leaned back lazily against a counter and glanced down to her deep orange uniform. At times, she wished she could have the optional shorts that went under the Meadowview uniform, but her mother always insisted she wear the outfits as they were intended. A puff of a sigh escaped Ellie as she heard the microwave beep at her, letting her know the meal was ready.

“Oh, food’s ready!” she exclaimed as she opened the microwave door and popped out the burrito. It was a little hot for her hands, but she wasn’t a wuss! A little heat wouldn’t kill a person.

With meal in hand, she left the house to walk to school. Most normal students left just barely on time or late to head to school, however, that wasn’t Ellie’s style. She left way earlier than she needed to and took her time heading to school. There was plenty of time for her to stop at the park and to occasionally play on the equipment, or to stop at the supermarket to buy a snack or two. As she walked, she puffed some air at the burrito to try and cool it off, but it was still way too hot to eat. “Sheesh, by the time it cools off, I’ll probably be at school. Damn!” she muttered as her feet carried her from her house to her favorite shortcut through the park.

It seemed like the usual morning, where the sun was starting to lighten the sky to a slightly orangey color, and the birds were gently chirping in the trees. The streets were relatively quiet and the park was practically empty. By the time she reached the playground, Ellie’s breakfast was finally cool enough to be eaten.

“Finally!” With a grin on her face, she went to take a seat on one of her favorite toys in the sandbox: the Merry-Go-Round. As she sat down along the edge of the ride, she took one bite, then pushed her foot against the ground slightly to get the metal platform moving very slowly. As she watched the world move around her at this very mellow pace, Ellie slowly polished off her meal. However, something seemed to bug her. There was something rattling against the metal of the platform. At first, it wasn’t too big a deal, however, after the gentle sound of metal clinking against metal continued for about 2 minutes, enough was enough. Crinkling the plastic wrap in her hands, she turned towards the center of the Merry-Go-Round and found something strange between the center spoke.

“What is that?” she asked as she reached out with her left hand to pick up what looked like a strange pen. Casually flipping it between her fingers, she brought it closer to her eyes. It actually was a pen. The top looked like it was made of bronze and shaped like Saturn. It had a little rainbow and star carved into the metal. The pen’s body was pastel rainbow, fading from pink at the top through all the colors of the rainbow, ending with light lavender at the bottom.

Out loud, Ellie wouldn’t dare to mention it, but she couldn’t help but mentally squeal about how cute this pen was. Rainbows were one of the few girly things she still approved of, though publicly she’d never admit to such. Figuring the owner of the pen was long gone, she adjusted her backpack so she could open up the pocket’s zipper and toss the pen in.

“Eh,” she sighed out as she pushed herself off the ride. “Maybe today is my lucky day!” Zipping her backpack shut, she walked up to the nearest trashcan and tossed her burrito wrapper in. Glancing in the direction of Meadowview, she shrugged her shoulders and decided to continue on her way.

That pen would probably remain buried in her bag for a while, but it would definitely be the start of something much more complicated than Ellie could ever guess.

Aftermath - The Investigation (Ellie Spectre)
Word Count: 737

"So, did ya hear about the 'bomb threat,' Ellie?"

The blonde girl merely rolled her shoulders into a shrug at the two boys in front of her. One was also quite blonde, like her, only his hair was cut in a bowl shape. The other had a deep tan and dark black hair that was cut nice and short and wore a soccer team jacket. Ellie had ditched that assembly, because it was the same thing every year. So her buddies, Jared and Zuniga (called such because of his last name), were filling her in on what happened. Rather daringly, Ellie pointed out "I heard it was a university prank."

"No man! It was totally real!" Zuniga exclaimed, slamming his tanned hand on the desk in front of him.

Jared nodded in earnest, piping in with "Yeah! Totally saw the carnage! It was wicked!"

Ellie’s eyebrow perked up. Now, if this had been the mere "University Prank" which they were plastering all over the news, there would not have been any sort of "carnage" as her friends had described. It was obvious that the tomboy’s interest had been caught, giving her friends the opportunity to continue to describe what had happened.

"Yeah, that west wing of the school. Totally blown to bits! A couple of classrooms that haven’t been used in a while, totally destroyed!"

This was all it took, for the girl stood up and declared "Anyone up fer investigatin’ the carnage?"

Both of the guys shook their heads and waved their hands at her. Jared led off with "Sorry dude. That place is all covered in tape, and I already got detention." Zuniga also pointed the common flaw in nearly any plan: "I’ve got soccer practice, can’t check it out."

Shrugging her shoulders again, Ellie began to walk of. "Whatevs. I can do it on my own." She could use the time away from the classroom. Making certain to pick up every teenager’s alibi, the bathroom pass, she strolled out of the classroom, ready to investigate the rubble which her friends had been too scared to check out.

--

It took some maneuvering, but the tomboy had managed to make it past the school officials that had been casually looming around the police tape of the West Wing. Sliding into the area carefully, she made certain to watch her steps. Her heart was beating furiously in her chest, adrenaline making each small step an adventure in its own. She had to make certain to keep an eye on her feet, the school officials, and where she was going, all at one time. Nonetheless to say she was a bit jumpy when a piece of rubble shifted in such a fashion she’d normally consider “too loud.” However, the nearby official didn’t even seem to notice.

It was only when she rounded a corner where a classroom used to be, that she was able to relax a bit more. She was out of sight, and fully able to analyze her surroundings. It looked like ground zero, since nearly everything had been blown to bits or torn to shreds. Obviously there used to be desks, but one could hardly tell that the splinters buried under the concrete rubble had once been desks. The only word that could escape her as she took in the sight was a single curse: “…s***…”

She sat there for a moment, still looking on. However, a strange feeling came across her. Somehow, some way, she felt responsible. Logically, Ellie was able to tell herself it wasn’t her fault, but she still couldn’t get this sudden new burden to lift itself off her shoulders. She leaned forward, pressing her forehead against her knees and scratched the back of her head. I bet guys don’t ever feel this guilty over something they had no control over, she mused silently.

She stood up once more and began to head back to class. Perhaps it was that heavy burden’s fault, but on her way back to class, her steps seemed a little less light. While attempting to sneak back, the blonde tripped on a large chunk of concrete and fell rather loudly into the scrap pile. The officials turned and discovered Ellie, attempting to push herself off the ground while wiping her uniform off of any dirt. She was definitely in trouble.

She reminded herself silently as she stood up, At least I’ll have company in detention tonight.

Reflecting on High Heeled Shoes (Ellie Spectre)
Word Count: 559

There was one pair of shoes that Ellie's mother had bought for her earlier that year. A pair of shoes that Ellie had decided she was never going to wear.

Until the other night.

The other night, Ellie had learned she was apparently Sailor Iris, the Senshi of Rainbows. All the crap on the television and in the newspapers were flat out wrong. The sailor-suited girls were not terrorists, but instead they were defenders of justice. Or at least, a cat had told her this.

Sitting in her room, the blonde sat on a beanbag chair and held a pair of boots in her hands. Her mother had purchased them because they were "punk," but her mother had failed to get the pair without heels. As she stared at the black boots decorated with black belts all over it, she thought about that talking cat. It was a bit difficult to believe a cat that was talking to you, or to take anything she was saying seriously. However, this cat had been pretty serious with her when telling her about her duties.

"Man... this is lame... how the hell did that cat even know about any of this?" Ellie had never really liked cats. So the fact her informant had been a cat did not exactly fly too well for the girl. And the cat had the personality to match any of the snooty girls from the Crystal Academy. Her hands smoothed over the black leather shoes on her lap as if she was trying to calm herself down.

She mused momentarily over her transformation, the outfit she had been wearing when she finished transforming, and those dreaded boots. Ellie had never been one for walking around in high heeled shoes, but when she finished transforming, she had found herself helpless in the line of battle just because she couldn’t stand up on her own. She had fallen on her face and wobbled around rather than being remotely helpful. She apparently had magical abilities as well, but the tomboy wasn't exactly fond of what fate had in store for her.

"Seriously, rainbows, of all things?!"

The girl threw her boots across the room at the wall, as if she was trying to vent out her frustrations. It wasn't like anybody was going to get angry at her for making noise. Nobody was home.

That girl who had been with her that night had the power of the stars, and from what she saw, they looked pretty destructive. That was awesome! And then Ellie had used her powers and got a wussy little rainbow. Ellie enjoyed pastel rainbows on occasion, but she was not relishing the idea of her magical powers being based off such. It was too girly.

"I could have had anything! Earthquakes, floods, f*ckin' a** kickin'!!! Yet I got mother f*ckin' rainbows!" She beat her fist into the beanbag chair, which caused a gentle "shhhhh" sound.

It took several minutes of silence before Ellie got up and picked up the boots her mom got her. "Damn it, I don't like it one bit," she grumbled as she put the boots away. One of these days she’d wear them. Maybe. However, today just wasn’t that day.

With that, the girl left her room, closing her bedroom door. There was nothing that some time in the garage wouldn't fix.

Project: Motorcycle Dissection (Ellie Spectre)
Word Count: 596

With a wrench in hand, Ellie stood there and looked over the '97 BMW. Yet again, she had managed to take up Phil's workload just so he didn’t have to work. Sometimes the blonde couldn’t help but wonder how her red-headed friend could even maintain a job with Hank as the manager. Especially if you considered Phil's lack in work ethic and Hank's overly sensitive work ethic. The only logical reason Ellie could come up with was maybe Hank pitied her friend because of his lack of a high school education.

Shrugging it off, she set to work. It was not exactly a super easy task, but Ellie was always up for a challenge. That, and it wasn’t the first time she had to do something similar. As she began to unscrew parts, loosen wires, and otherwise take apart the vehicle, she couldn’t help but subconsciously think of a conversation from earlier that day.

"Seriously, you need to stop workin' so hard!" Jared had harassed.

Ellie had told him she didn’t have time to play videogames that afternoon because she had her new project. In all honesty, she didn't mind videogames, but it really wasn't her cup of tea. She'd rather be up and doing something instead of sitting on her butt and pretending she was shooting zombies or fighting important battles in a mystical land. Yet her refusal had caused an onslaught of questions.

"You doin' this fer Phil again? Aren't ya?!"

Ellie had stated she was doing it because she wanted to, and whether or not Phil wanted to work on it didn't really matter to her.

Her blonde friend rolled his eyes. "Yer full of sh*t. Ya can't resist the lure of an older guy!"

She was a bit used to such wild accusations. She considered Phil to be a friend, and that was it. Yet Jared was convinced that she liked him as more than a friend. How could it be Ellie's fault that Phil actually knew a few things about vehicle repair and tended to be a good mentor?

Either way, she changed the subject slightly and pointed out how she felt bad for the two boys who brought in the bike. To Ellie, it had been pretty obvious it was a botched attempt at hot wiring the vehicle.

"Didn't you say they were from Hillworth? As in the school for delinquent boys?" Jared stared at her hard, as if expecting it to make the girl crack at the seams.

She had pointed out it shouldn't have mattered.

"I bet they stole that bike! And now their gettin' ya t'repair it so that they can sell it! I bet you fell for it 'cause one of the boys was good lookin'!"

It was about here that Ellie stopped caring. The rest turned into a shouting match, because all of these accusations were completely unfair. She couldn't remember any of the things she said, or anything else that he accused her of at this point. There'd be no tears, only steam being blown on both ends. The conversation ended with Ellie kicking Jared in the shins (and only because he deserved it).

By the time this whole scenario had flashed through her mind, the girl had finished up with what she had been working on for that day. With a heavy sigh, she stood up and dusted herself off.

"S'pose I'll talk to him on AIM tonight..." she uttered under her breath as she closed up her garage for the evening. Stupid Jared. He was so transparent at times, it was obnoxious.

Get over it! (Ellie Spectre)
Word Count: 529

"Why are you avoiding me?"

It would seem that Jared had decided enough was enough and hunted down his blonde friend, much to her chagrin. It was after school while the two walked home. Ellie had walked ahead and gone on a different route than usual. She had skipped hanging out at lunch and had been ignoring him. She had tried talking to him on AIM at one point, but that turned into a bloody mess (stupid text not coming out right!). Enough was enough, and the boy had decided to take care of all this by going to her house.

Ellie turned to her friend with furious golden eyes. She didn't answer his question at all, but she did get something off her chest she had been meaning to.

"They got put in Hillworth cuz they fought some guy over a girl! Okay?!"

Her guy friend blinked, not even really certain how to respond initially. To him, it came out of nowhere. Yet given a few minutes to blink and look at Ellie's "pissed off face," he finally remembered where that outburst had come from.

"Oh!" he exclaimed, before adding "You're still going on about that?"

Ellie didn’t even dignify such with a response. She just continued to glare at him.

"What the hell? Seriously! Get over it! I did, so why can't you?" He lifted up his hand and ruffled his hair slightly out of mild frustration. No matter how boyish Ellie was, he half the time forgot she was still a girl. And forgetting such a simple thing always bit him in the butt later on.

Turning away with her arms crossed, she began to walk towards her garage.

"No you don't!" he grunted out as he reached out, grabbing onto her arm.

With a pout, she sulked "Yer overprotective, y'*sshole." She was now avoiding eye contact, making things even more difficult.

Jared knew better than to raise his tone at this point. Instead, he used his free hand to move the girl's face to face him. "No," he said in a neutral tone. "Yer the *sshole, holdin' a grudge like that. Like a..."

Ellie interjected "Don't you dare say it!" but it was too late.

"...girl!"

If one knew Ellie well enough, they knew that you did not want to accuse her of being a girl at any time. It was strictly for your own safety. When Jared ignored the safety precaution, he knew what was in store. For the girl balled up her free hand into a fist, and promptly punched her friend in the solar plexus. It wasn’t a soft girly punch, but a relatively boyish one that was going straight to the point.

Jared doubled over, letting go of Ellie and clutching onto his stomach. Yet, ironically, he grunted out "You okay?"

With her fist, she lightly bonked him on the head. "Yeah... whatever..." she began to walk away, but then paused and turned to face her ailing friend.

"Git yer a** in the house. Yer goin' t'play videogames while you recover, *sshole."

Perhaps it wasn’t a storybook ending, but all was forgiven at the end of this chapter of Ellie's story.
