adoption day
"You picked without me," Aara said. Her intonation was calm enough, but ever since she had died, her voice had the tendency to take on an otherworldly screeching quality when she was upset. It was doing so right now. For everyone's sake, she hoped she learned to control it soon. Aara enjoyed winning arguments through reason and soul-crushing wit, not because her opponents were surreptitiously deafened.
"Honey..." Sam took a second to find the right words. "Clearly you picked without me as well." Sam glanced over at the two children sitting on the floor nearby and his lips quirked upward in a wan, brief grin. What must they think of these strangers who had brought them home, all smiles, only to start an argument about them once they got there?
Aara's somewhat transparent arms crossed over her chest as she took in a breath she no longer needed. "Yes." But I brought home an adorable little girl who I can tell stories to and whose hair I can braid and you brought home a child with knives growing out of his head. The words weren't said aloud, but they were there, as clear as day as far as Sam was concerned.
"Don't worry," he said, trying to sound calm. He might have been the ghost whisperer, but the only spirit who needed his help was hovering right in front of him. And that whispering? It didn't seem to be working on her. "Everything will be all right."

anything you can do, i can do... wait a minute
"No."
"Rhys..." The warning in Aara's voice was clear, but the spawn wasn't falling for it today. There were only so many times an adult could threaten a kid before the child realized those threats were empty.
"I wanna play! Yanya! Play!"
The yeti girl shook her head, all of her concentration centered on the sketchbook in her lap. "Later," she said.
"Rhys, it's time to learn."
The boy crossed his arms and did a horrible job ignoring his ghostly mother.
"The alphabet is important."
"Nuh uh." Rhys poked his sister with a toe, one of his ankle blades digging into the couch as he did so.
"Well then I guess you'll just never be able to read the secret messages I'll be writing to Yanya."
The girl looked up. "Secret messages?" She brightened at the prospect, her long canines visible when she grinned. She stood, bringing her tablet over to Aara. The woman wrapped her spectral hands around paper and pen with visible difficulty and began to write. Yanya giggled.
"No! No no! I wan' messages too!"
"Here," Yanya said, bringing the sketchpad over to the sofa so Rhys could see it. Printed in simple blocky handwriting was a short, easy sentence, but it was gibberish to the spawn.
"NO!" he screeched. Rhys hopped off of the couch and dragged a hand across Yanya's pad, ripping the offending page in half. "I learn alph'bet myself!" he said as he stormed into his room.

sam's journal
On Sam's desk there lies a notebook. It is worn and yellowed, resembling an ancient magical tome, but its contents are much less interesting. It contains personal musings about Sam's family and day-to-day life, usually arranged in list form, a suitable organizational system for his analytical mind.Quote: It sounds vaguely wrong of me to say, but I'm confident I made a good choice in adopting little Rhys. I don't want to one day make it seem as though they paraded a selection of children in front of me and I chose the best one, but, well, the facility is what it is. Rhys has his faults - understandable considering his sin - but all in all, he's a good boy. He's shaping up to be quite the athletic child as well. Aara and I will have to discuss signing him up for sports or karate, something to make use of his energy.Quote: Equally fortunate is Yanya's presence in our lives. She's a charming girl, all smiles and helpfulness. In fact, I've never met such an amiable child. She fights with Rhys occasionally, but that's to be expected. She's shaping up to be a fine artist, through no prompting from her parents.Quote: Teaching melee fighting at the facility I recently took a job at the facility where Rhys was created. So many interesting children to meet - Rhys' spiritual siblings, I suppose. I'm not certain how good of a job I am doing since I applied to be a magic instructor and am now tasked with punching and kicking children, but hopefully the kids are learning something.Quote: And that brings me to Ford. Seemingly just as intriguing as my own children is this Sloth/Abstinence spawn I met recently. He's hopelessly lost in melee class, but has quite the aptitude for spells and innate magic. I find myself wondering whether I'm doing him a disservice by slacking off on his fighting training, but he seems much happier for it. Who knows, one day he might be good enough with magic that he can defend himself using that skill instead?

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:
Letter Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following: Guardians Name: Child's Name: Sin: Virtue: Gender: Current Attitude: Likes: Dislikes: Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars ) Current hair style: Current clothing preferences: Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue) Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them? As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs. Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc. Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up. Thank you.
You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.
(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)
