Hero fought off a grimace by turning it into a strained smile. Doing nothing all day appealed to him on a superficial level, but he knew he would eventually grow bored of it, probably sooner rather than later. Then there was the issue of living with other males all the time. What did they do without women? Oh sure, when you’re a cub you think, ‘No girls, sounds great!’ Then you wake up one morning with a little extra fur on your chest and all you can think about is girls, girls, girls, girls.
Well, he didn’t want to ruin it for the kid. He was bound to figure it out sooner or later. On the other hand, maybe the only reason the males stayed in this pride was because they never learned of anything better. The poor dopes. Maybe he should say something.
“Sort of.” His ears swiveled, listening for the cub’s sister. “But you know, there’s a whole world out there. A great, big, wonderful world. I’d much rather live out there than here. I think I’ll just leave.”
He wasn’t going to take the kid with him. Hero disproved of cub napping and, though he liked kids, he didn’t want to raise any. Too much effort for too little reward, he always said. He just hoped he put some ideas in the kid’s head.

Kohaku tilted his head. What was out there? He didn't know, nor did he want to know. His mother had told him about some good and bad things. His father lived out in the "World" the other was talking about but was sure he'd come back to live with him and his sister and mother. He didn't understand this male in front of him. This place was too good to be true, and yet he seemed to not think so. Kohaku didn't ask him why.
"Bye then!" Kohaku said not really interested in following the male. It seemed he didn't belong in this pride. Instead, Kohaku turned around and continued on with what he was doing. Exploring the land in which he lived. He wanted to know where the other males were so he could at least see how far it was from his sisters and mother.

Hero was a little surprised, and a little disappointed, that his words had so little affect on the cub. He had hoped the cub would have at least asked why he wanted to leave. It would have made him feel like he made a difference. Well, Hero thought, I guess he just likes it here. Dopey kid.
Turning his back on the cub, Hero made his way toward the boarders of the pride. The females he had been looking for clearly weren’t his type.
