I believe in Evolution. Why?

Because there are millions upon millions upon millions of pieces of evidence supporting it. We see it happening. Take for a example, a horse.

A couple million years ago, the first horse was very small (under four feet), had a shorter snout, and it toes, not just hooves. We know this from skeletal remains that were found and dated using carbon dating.

Where are those horses now? If we say that they were created by God, then where are the remains from way back when of today's current horses?

Animals evolve constantly, right before our eyes. If they do not adapt to a changing environment, they die. Those animals that do adapt carry their adaptions onto offspring, who carry it down to their own.

Evolution is only seldom taught properly in schools, especially on a State by State basis.

I had a professor last semester who did an amazing job explaining the whole debate, and how much of it is real science.... ect.... as well as the evidence for evolution that is usually misconstrued to mean various things having to do with eugenics.
On a separate not that is the exact reason why we need to nationalize teaching standards. So what a child is learning in an inner city school is exact same (teaching styles, examples, material ect) as a what a kid in Podunk Iowa is being taught.

I had a teacher who did a horrible job. She spent two minutes on the subject and said she isn't going to further discuss it due to religion. In that school district as long as you bring it up, that's teaching enough =M=

Hell yes we do, I want education to be declared a fundamental constitutional right scream

on a second note, in order to debunk evolution you have to say
All of modern geology is false
all of modern biology is false

Because Evolution is the unified theory of Biology, you cannot have it without evolution.
And there are catholic priests who are evolutionary biologists, so it's not like believing in it automatically excludes religion.
Mendel, the guy who discovered particulate inheritance was a German monk and Darwin is buried in some sacred church, I forget where.

The pope conceded on the evolutionary debate and he has cardinals that work on advancing our understanding. One of them (forget his name) said Catholics who don't believe in evolution are "cafeteria" Catholics and should be ignored.

Yar, and I am glad they are trying to dispel the cloud of ignorance most of us end up being under on the subject.

seriously, I am really glad I had that professor last semester, the guy was a genius, I shall take another class of his.

I think that the theory of evolution should be actually taught in all schools. We're supposed to be SEPERATE from church, which means that we can mention god, maybe maybe not he kicked started things, but not creationalism. Some people don't really care about evolution, but its values help push modern life forward. It is used in technology, and helps us use DNA evidence to catch criminals or other things.

To discredit evolution as blasphemous is blasphemous.
Education is, in my opinion, THE MOST IMPORTANT constitutional right. It helps us speak correctly, act correctly, and choose informed decisions. Without education, we'd be cavemen, maybe criminals, and not part of society.

Another note: Democracy does not work without education. That's why it works so well now, because so many people know more.

As of the supreme court case Rodriguez vrs San Antonio School district, it has been ruled a non fundamental right....
which I am sure that education should be considered one in modern America, you are pretty much screwed over if you do not at least graduate high school.
As of now, we do not have a constitutional right to education, let alone equal education until something is changed.

I believe freedom of speech and religion as well as a couple of the other fundamental rights are more important, but education is high enough to qualify in my ideals.

the problem with this is
even if you go to a s**t school and get a second class education, some kids can still do well in college, and in rich schools some kids still do bad and don't graduate from high school. So it is hard for older people to accept that school quality reflects on your education.
Even if your school looks like a ghetto, they make the argument it doesn't condemn you to not getting an education.
Which I guess is partially true.

Soul: It is required by law to teach evolution, but you will notice some teachers will start off their lessons with "so the state says I have to teach you this...." and they will half a** the lesson, or give you partial evidence, ect.
my biology teacher in HS believed in evolution, but I have to admit her text book and lessons were....... well.... pretty much unhelpful in explaining the theories and evidence.

OH HAI DUR. Does this count as thread necro'ing if the thread is still on the first page, even if no one has replied in over a week?
Not sure how you guys do things here.

Anyways, the process of evolution is undeniable. However, the THEORY of evolution is obviously wrong. There is a gaping hole in the fossil record that spans a very long time, and I really doubt you'll find anything to fit that place.
