.::>The First Night<::.
Salem hadn't been this nervous in a very long time. He had applied to become the gardian of a half-elf half-spider baby named Cato. He didn't know who was actually gonig to be getting him yet. It had been two days sense he was supposed to be informed who won. The suspence was killing him. He had Duke poking fun at him, Catherine trying to calm him down, the kids at the adoption home giggling behind his back, and Gairbith was starting to worry Salem was going to lose his hair and if he didn't Salem himself might be remiding that himself soon enough. Gods if he had to wait any longer he didn't know what he was going to---"ACK!"
There was a knock on the door.
Salem shakily got up from the floor from where he had fallen to when the sudden light knock had come. He made his way to the door and took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. Now that he had gathered himself he opened the door that lead into Aphrodite's room. As odd as that sounded thats what happened. He had already set up the magical door to connect the two rooms so he had been waiting in the apatrment he had given Catherine at his adoption home with Catherine's permission so that Jabir and Maggie would only have to go to Catherine's room in the Mishaps HQ.
Either way... He opened the door. He blinked as he saw Jabir standing there, but... It wasn't just him... He was holding the very baby that he was waiting for. Did... Did that mean...? He stared dully as Jabir congratulated him and read out the infermary notes he had taken. Slowly he looked down at the baby that was gently handed over into his arms. The familiar warmth of holding a baby was nothing new to him, however... This time it was so different... He smiled down at the baby quietly as it stired a little from it's sleep before cuddling up against him and dozing right back off again. Quietly he thanked Jabir and carefully took everything else into the room before closing the door. This... This was just beyond anything he had ever imagined. It was something he hadn't expected. He was used to handling children or all ages all the time! Why was this so... He decided it had to be the fact he was allowing himself to accept the fact that Cato wasn't going to go anywhere...
He didn't have a room set up for him yet sense he hadn't wanted to get himself too hyped. He made his way all the way up to his room and gently put the sleeping babe into the crib he had moved into his room. He may not have gotten a room ready, but he knew he should at least have a few things ready right?
For the first time in a long time he left Duke in charge while he watched the little spider-baby. He hoped Duke would be alright for the evening... He quickly set to work setting up everything he would need for the baby. Once he was done he looked over the note he was given. Wait... Live food...? He hadn't heard that... Then again he really hadn't heard much anything when Jabir was here. This would be a little more complicated then he thought. Well, he was already handling a couple of babies like this, but he hadn't expected to have another one. He shrugged lightly, not really minding this fact much. "Huh?"
He looked over at the crib as he heard quiet whining. The baby must be waking up! He came over quickly and gently lifted the baby. "You hungry, Cato...?" He left his room with the baby who has slowly started to grow louder, heading down to the kitchen. He got many curious looks from all the kids as he made his way to the kitchen. In the back of the kitchen there were small animals used to feed some of the more unusual creatures that he had to raise. Picking up a net he fished up a... Well... Fish. He left it in the net, fliping and flopping which caught the babies attention.
Cato blinked his many odd 'double-eyes' down at the fish riggling in the net. What was that...? He leaned down and reached out his little arms to the fish. He reached into the net and tried to catch it, but... It was so slippery! "Ahhh!!" He whined softly as he tried to catch it. Finally the fish slowed down and he finally got a good grip on it and pulled out the fish. Clinging to it with all four little hands he made sure that it didn't go anywere as he pulled it up to himself. Without hesitating he bit down into the fish and started to suck.
Salem smiled slighty. "Well, that worked out easily enough. You like that Cato? Hmmm... You're a bloody mess now though..." He shook his head slightly at the blood that was dripping all over the little one. He looked around the kitchen for a moment and decided this would be the best place for his bath anyway. With that he craddled Cato in the crook of one arm and when over to a drawer, pulling out a soft wash cloth and a towel. Spreading out the towel with a little trouble in the sink, he turned on the water and carefully ran it warm, filling the sink about half way.
The spider baby suckled on the fish till his tummy was happy with him then let it go, the fish sliding down Cato's belly to rest in his lap. What was the funny looking man doing now...? He blinked his odd double-eyes down at the sink, wondering what the noise was. What was this guy planning...?
Taking the fish from the baby's lap he dropped it into the nearest trash can then came back to the sink. Very gently he lifted the baby out of his arms and placed him onto his back on the counter. Carefully he striped the many armed baby then sat him in the water, making it a point to support the baby's back so he'd stay sitting up.
Cato gasped whinned softly at the contact of water. It wasn't cold, but... He was tired... He wanted to go back to sleep. Looking up at his adoptive father he whimpered softly before yawning.
Salem couldn't help the smile that came to his lips. The child had been napping before he ate so it was no surprise that's what he wanted to go back to doing. Still he had to get him cleaned up first, he'd just have to do a quick job of it. And so he pulled out another towel and left it on the counter before picking up the wash cloth again. Dripping a little soap into the cloth he wet it and set to work. Hopfully Cato wouldn't put up a struggle against the gentle scrubbing.
Lucky for Salem he didn't struggle, just whine softly the entire time. The soft rubbing of the cloth felt nice and the water was so warm... It was all very relaxing, but he couldn't go to sleep sitting up! So the whines sleepily continued...
Salem smiled as he washed the blood off the little one. That was just too cute... Still, he got the hint and finished quickly, draining the bloody water before gently laying the baby onto his back on the soft towel and wrapped him in it. Gently he rubbed the baby dry then picked him up, holding the little cutie close to his chest to keep him warm. Leaving the kitchen he went all the way back up to his room. Upon getting there he put the spider baby into a new diaper and laid him back into the crib, tucking him in.
Cato cooed softly as he was put to bed. That's beter. Cuddling into his pillow he closed all four of his odd eyes and slowly started to drift off. He didn't really understand what was going on, but... This didn't seem so bad...

Jabir was pacing around the corridors again, this time trying to find Cato and Salem's room. Despite being him behind the recent change of the HQ, he still needed to figured out where he placed most of the rooms
After a while he finally found the right door. Quickly he entered the room and left a note on top of the bedThe quest Dear Salem, I'm sure you've noticed a few odd things happening around Cato lately. Everything he grabs remains stuck to him, from his toys and treasures to his crib bars and walls As his guardian it's your job to avoid him becoming a walking sticker and teach him how to control this ability - The Mishap Staff

[ A present from Catherine! ]
Garreth and Nariko were at Daycare and Aphrodite was having her lessons with Bax, being all alone Catherine decided to pay her favorite theif a visit. Carrying a small wrapped box in her arms, she knocked idly on the door. "Hellooo?" Pressing against the door, it opened. Looking inside the dark room it seemed they weren't home. Sighing, the plump witch furthered her way into the room, leaving the wrapped gift inside Cato's crib, on the gift it was a note. Seeing that there wasn't much point to stay, she decided to leave, closing the door behind her. Catherine Dear Salem and my favorite little theif,
Inside this package is something very special. When Cato is old enough I'll help him do the ritual to hatch him. Though despite my choice, I don't regret picking out this familiar for Cato.

Salem came into his appartment, Cato in his arms. Dropping the baby bag on the couch he headed into his baby's room, blinking as he saw something new in the crib. "Hm...? What's that?" He looked down into the crib at the package that had made it's way into the room while he was out. Gently he picked up the note on it and read it aloud for him and Cato. "Well there ya go Cato! Another present! Not that you need any more... Cato you really gotta stop taking people's things. You've only gotten worse!" With some trouble he pried the spider baby off and put him down on the floor of his bedroom, unwrapping the package for him and handing over the egg inside. That was odd Cato usually didn't cling like that... "Well, here ya go kiddo. You stay here and play, alright?" With that he left the room to see if anything else had shown up.
Cato whined softly as he was pulled off his adoptive father, that kinda hurt! He pouted as his butt met the floor, but was instantly better the moment he was handed the egg. "Mine!" That had turned out to be his first word... God help Salem when that was the only word Cato felt was important enough to pronounce right... He looked at the egg oddly, shaking it for a moment before trying to chew on it. Well... It didn't seem good to eat either... What a stupid gift! He tried to throw it away, but found he couldn't quite get himself to let go. "Ah!" He flailed as hard as he could until the egg finally came loose and flew across the room, thumping onto the floor. Stupid, funny lookin' ball... He started to crawl around his room, whining softly as his clothes started to cling to him uncomfortably. And why were his hands suddenly so hard to pull up off the floor?!
Salem smiled as he spotted the letter on his bed. This one must have been from Cath to him! She was always so good to hi... Oh... It's not from her. He blinked as he looked down at the letter now in his hand before reading it. Oh... s**t... He remembered when Cath had to go through this with little Aph... "Cato...?" He dropped the letter and ran to the room. Crap...
Cato now looked more like a Katamari then a baby. He'd started gathering up things from all over the room! He was even rolling himself around on the floor, giggling as things stuck to him. This was kinda fun!
"Oh, no..." He sighed and started to gently pull all of Cato's toys off of the little spider baby, ignoring all the whining it was causing. How in the name of all that's good is he going to fix this...?

Gullien and Thylassa The soft quiet of the night is broken by the small squeak of a stroller wheel and the crinkle of a piece of paper as it slides under your door. It appears to be similar to a small postcard and has writing on the front and back.   Looks like someone is wishing you a happy year of the dog!

[ A note.]Catherine walked the length of the hallway, all the way to Cato's room. Peering inside she found it empty like most times she'd visisted. Leaving a note on the door that lead to Salem's room, she left as quietly as she came. Catherine Salem, ... As you know, Valentines day is comming up. I wanted to know if you weren't busy that day and like to spend time with me. love, Catherine

Cato stared vacantly at the brown egg Catherine had given to him. He stared at the sparkles and glimmers it made in the light, he especially liked the gold coin. It was his. His shiny! Clasping his two pairs of arms around the egg he held it protectively all the while he was sitting on the floor of his room.
Salem laughed, "Cato, no one's gonna take your egg." The tall catfolk was sitting on the floor, his back resting against the door to his room. Unaware of the note hanging above his head.
"Yuh-huh, it's Cato's shine-ee. Cato won't let no one take his shine-ee!" The spidermishap beamed, rolling his prized possesion across the floor, his two smaller arms on his back were holding onto his dear Teddy bear, a gift from Garreth.
Salem laughed again, Cato amazed him sometimes. Looking up he noticed a piece of paper taped to his door. How come he didn't notice before? Reaching up from where he sat he easily plucked off the note, opening it up he gasped as his other hand slapped his forhead. "I forgot!"
Cato blinked as he used the bars of his cradle to stand, still not used to this whole walking on your own thing, his new larger feet were making it a bit difficult. "Da-dee, what did yoo forget?"
"Valentines Day! I almost forgot about it!" The catfolk shook his head as he pushed himself from the ground.
"Wazzat?" The puzzled mishap flomped back onto the floor, catching his egg as it bagen to roll away on it's own. "Bah shine-ee." He scolded, as he picked up the egg from the floor placing it in his lowered cradle.
Salem blinked, taking a moment to think of a way to explain this holiday. "It's a holiday where you give cards and candies to people you like. I'm gonna give Auntie Cat a nice ring."
"Is Cato gonna get somethin'?" He stared up at his father with his four sets of double eyes.
Salem smiled a bit. "Yep, we'll just have to see how much."
Cato grinned as he pushed up the bars of his cradle, entrapping his rolling egg. More shinies? He couldn't wait.
