Main Ingredient(s): Spider
Original Spell: A Locate/Detect scroll casted by a rouge to locate any object or being he wished in a room along with detecting any magic, secret doors, or secret passage ways
What went wrong: The scroll was activated by a small amount of blood, he'd been told, so he pressed a tiny wound on his thumb down onto the parchment and squished a spider that had scuttled onto the scroll. A loud bang and puff of smoke later the rouge was no more and there was now a wailing baby in his place
Full Story:
A handsome young man stepped into the magic shop, smiling slightly as he looked around. The most common form of elf is the high elf, but this particular customer was a Wood Elf. He was very typical for his kind, nicely tanned skin, bright red hair, emerald green eyes, slim, and quite good looking. Unlike most elves however he wasn't into the whole whimsical stuff... It just wasn't his thing... His thing was wine, women (or men for that matter...), and song... And other people's walets... Yeah... Getting back to the story! This young elf was here for a special commission.
"Hey there ol' man. How've you been?" He leaned against the front counter, smiling at the younger human in his usual chipper way. His many silver earrings tinkles softly as he watched the man climb down the ladder he was perched upon.
"Ah! Cato! What brings you back to my shop? Another Spider Climb scroll? Or perhaps an Invisability scroll this time?" The man was sure enough an older wizard with quite a good humor, but the graying man had not seen as many years as the young elven man before him. They had known each other for many years now and had long been good friends.
"Heh... You know me far too well old timer. Wrong you are though, I'm here for something a little more special... I need you to enchant a scroll that will locate objects, find passages, and detect magic all at once. Do you think you can do that for me?" He had leaned in closer and lowered his voice as he explained what he needed even though there was no one around to hear. It was an old habit of his and you never know...
"Ahhh... I see..." This was what the old wizard always would say when he was worried about Cato's well being. However he'd learned the elf was also as stubborn as a mule so there was no point in bringing up the subject. "I can have it ready by tomorrow evening. Is that alright?"
"Yes. Perfect. Thank you old friend. Here's you pay." He knew his friend never wanted pay from him, but a man needed to make a living and so he always insisted. Gently he deposited the bag of gold into the wizard's hands. "I'll see you tomorrow eve then. By the way, do you need anything? I could get it for you on the way."
"Hmm...? Let's see... I'm running low on Graveyard Dust. Get me some of that. See you tomorrow." Smiling he waved lightly before getting to work.
"G'bye old man." He gave a light nod before leaving to meet up with his party to make the final arangments. The next evening he showed up in the shop as he had had promised with a bag of Mullein. Tossing the bag onto the front desk he lightly called into the shop. "I'm back with that mullein you wanted! That scroll ready?"
His old friend came to the front of the shop baring the scroll he had finished half an hour before. "Thank you for the graveyard dust, Cato. Here's the scroll you asked for." Taking the bag of mullein and put it away and handed over the rolled up scroll. "The scroll is activated with a small amount of elven blood. A few drops should do it. Much luck to you Cato. And Cato... Be safe."
He couldn't help but smile at that, the human always had been fatherly towards him. "I will. See you later, old friend." Another nod in goodbye and off he went, slipping the scroll into his bag.
Joining his rouge friends they set off to the fallen Gambino Tower, Cato was sure they could find something valueable in the ruins. Sneaking silently into what remained of the tower, the small group kept an eye out while Cato got everything ready, opening the scroll and setting it down in the center of the ruined room. Kneeling down, he pulled out a dagger, and cut a tiny wound into his thumb. Gently he pressed his thumb down on the parchment with a small crunch. Crunch? He frowned as he looked down knowing in an instant something was wrong. The scroll started to glow brightly, enveloping him in light. A loud crack shattered the silence followed by wailing. When the light fades and the smoke clears, the scroll and elf are gone and have been replaced by... Well, they couldn't tell exactly what it was!
Not knowing what else to do they paniced and ran away, leaving the baby to it's own echoing wails. They banged on the old wizard's door rousing him from his bed. Startled and confused, the graying human opened the door and listened to the panic stricken gang. Cursing under his breath he told them all to go home before he turned them all into chickens for abandoning their friend like that before slamming the door in their faces and locking it. Quickly he dressed and gathered his things, using a scroll to teleport there.
Sure enough the odd baby still lay there crying at the top of his lungs. The man knelt down and scooped up the baby, wrapping his little naked body up in his own cloak. "Shhhh... I'm here now Cato... Everything will be alright now..."
Sure enough the many armed baby did quiet down at the man's gentle words though he still looked very frightend. He didn't understand what was happenng. He was scared!
Standing up, another teleport spell took them where the kind old wizard knew he had to go. He was simply too old to care for such a small child and he knew that he would find a good life here. Knocking on the door he patienty waited for an answer though he couldn't quite bring himself to return the sweet smile that greeted him. "Hello, Jabir..."he started quietly,"I'm here to bring you another result of one of my scrolls being miss used. Sadly... Sadly he was a very close friend of mine. It seems he accidentally crushed a spider while activating one of my scrolls and it seems to have fused the two. I'm far too old to care for him... Please... Find him a good family to care for him...?" Tears in his eyes he handed the half spider baby over to the very tall and thin Mishap, emerald cloak and all, as well as a necklace with a pendant that showed all the phases of the moon. "These are a gift from me. The pendant will allow him to summon up many of his old memories when he is ready for them. As for the cloak, that is mine and has many pockets I used for components for my spells. I'm sure he'll like it. Take good care of my rougish friend, would you Jabir?" With one last weak smile the wizard turned and left, wondering if he'd ever get to see his old friend again...

Gairbith my best friend. He's a dragon of considerable age. He helps me run my adoption home best he can, but he's so big he really can only help when the kids are outside. His room is on the roof. Gairbith and I used to participate in dragon rider turnaments together which is the reason the two of us are so banged up now. Nothing compares to the rush of the old days, but I wouldn't give up what I have now for the world. I think Gairbith feels the same and is more then happy to enjoy his retirement.
