We get letters for marching band. Since it's TECHNICALLY a sport butnotrly. (I'm upset because the letters do not say 'band' on them anymore...they're just letters. But the sports ones say the sport and the chorus ones say 'chorus'. D< )
Freshman year, you get lettered. Sophomore year, you get a bar (barred lol). Junior year you get barred, and senior year...idk what we get. We also get medals for States and concert Festival.
We have to buy our own jackets with a company though, the band doesn't provide them.
EDIT: Sophomore, percussionist. */provides info you asked for lol*

Um....I don't think our band gets letters ._O If we do, I don't know about it and didn't get one.
We do get awards though at our Band Awards Night. I myself received the 4 Year Senior award, Spirit Award, and colorguard got Best Section ^_^. Plus all seniors were given a large plaque with this year's band picture and the names of all the seniors.

My high school Marching Band awarded letters automatically to anyone who'd completed two years. It basically goes like this:
One Year Completetion--certificate Two years--letter Three--a gold pin that says "Marching" (I got up to this pin) Four--a gold pin that says "Band" Five or more--a gold bar At the end of senior year--a gold pin for whatever section you were in. (I got a xylo for mallets!)
We never got jackets, only hoodies.

We geot a pin for each year we're in band (we are small so it was required you be in both in concert and marching band). You got the ability to buy your band jacket at the end of your sophomore year (we're poor so we had to buy the jackets) and you got your letter at the end of your junior year.

At my school, band is counted as a varsity sport, so after one complete year (both marching and concert seasons), the student earns their letter. Also, for each year you are in the band, you get a cheveron (I think that's how it's spelled. ^^; )
Besides the letters, we can earn pins if you participate in the Orchestra for the musical or the pep band. I'm not so sure about Jazz band. Then there is the typical pins for solo & ensemble and orchestra festival, the patch for states for marching band, plus the pins for if you become section leader/captain or drum major.
This is the end of my sophmore year, and so far: I lettered by the end of freshman year, got my marching band states patch this year, two pep band pins, two cheverons, two gold bars and a star (star for section captain and bars for the number of years), and three orchestra competion pins.

I lettered, all four years.
Except the athletic store wouldn't sell me the letter jacket since "band isn't a sport..." I threw a fit and complained to the manager but nothing ever came of it. So my letter and pins are sitting on my bookcase right now.

at my school, you letter in band after your second year. It's a "G" with MUSIC down the side (everyone who's been in music two years gets one).
The way we work it, is for anyone in music... 1st year- numbers (the year you graduate) 2nd year- letter with MUSIC down the side 3rd year- pokeball (it's not really a pokeball, it just looks like one, it's a patch that says G.E. Music boosters on it) Senior year (no matter how long you've been in music)- you get a plaque with your name, your ensemble (band/orchestra/choir), and how long you've been in it.
We don't get jackets, we have to buy them, but they're nice winter jackets. Anyone can buy the jackets though, even if they're not in anything. (which is lame, I still don't understand why people who aren't even in anything would buy a letterman's jacket) I personally am running out of room on my jacket from all the patches I have. xDDD...

I double-lettered at two different schools.
My first letter took me 2 years at my Texas high school. My second letter took me 1 year at a California high school.
100 pts for each. Yeah... my senior year schedule was 4 band classes, 1 free class (which I used for practicing), and 2 academics. And I'm studying music education.
^^ Letters are fun!!
Haha, I got that pin at the end of senior year. I have a shiny little trombone pin on my backpack now. 3nodding
