Brightly coloured things.

Xaisholimikoki visits the curio shop for the first time and meets Switch and Kay. After leaving a very interesting impression on Switch she finds a pair of gloves with LED lights on the fingers! Awesome! She gives Switch her ice cream in return for the gloves. YAY!

Coming home!

These gloves were amazing! And all she had to do was sacrifice her ice cream cone to get them! Oh well, this was worth much more than the ice cream had been...so she came out victorious in the end! Ha! Xai wore the gloves the entire walk home, turning on the lights on each finger and waving them around with a gleeful giggle. She could only imagine how these would be in the dark!

When she finally reached her home she hurried through the door as fast as possible, not bothering to turn on the lights or opening the curtains for the windows, she needed it dark if she was going to get the full effect of this amazing lightshow. She was stuck with a dull glow coming from the fixtures in the walls, but they weren't too bad since she hadn't actually turned them on all the way. They just did that whenever she walked in a room so she wouldn't hit anything. Locking the door behind her, Xai made her way through the neat house, waving her hands around the entire time with squeals of delight. These were amazing! But she needed music if she was to dance; dancing wasn't as fun without it! So she headed over to an odd looking machine that was built into the wall, pressing a few buttons until she found the song she wanted to play. It was an odd choice, at least to anyone but her; it was reminiscent of techno...only odder. But it must have been one of her favorite songs because she immediately broke out into dance, waving her hands and fingers and watching the lightshow she created in the reflective surfaces all around her home. This was definitely a shopping trip she didn't regret.

Xai danced for hours and hours until suddenly a growling sound made her freeze in place. What was that? It happened again and she snapped her fingers, making the music pause so she could listen again. Was there something in here? No way. Impossible. The lights would be shining brighter to accommodate the extra life form in the room. She heard the growling again and laughed with relief. It was only her stomach! She was hungry! Guess it was time to cook herself something to eat, but she couldn't do that with these gloves on so she took them off and set them down on a chair, walking away and heading into another room. As she left the lights shut off in the living room and the lights in the kitchen turned on, flicking a switch to make those lights shine bright enough to actually see what she was doing. Let's see, what should she have this time! So many options so little room in her stomach!

Oh no my gloves!

Mmm these chicken fingers smelled absolutely delicious. Although this was another Gaian dish that had a deceptive name! How odd. Chickens didn't have fingers; it was an anatomical fact, so why would they call these pieces of chicken breast chicken fingers when chickens did not, in fact, have fingers at all? Xai would have to ponder this during another couple minutes of dancing while she waited for her food to finish baking in the oven, walking out of the kitchen to return to the living room.

...Wait a second...what was that glowing over there? She could've sworn she'd turned off the fingerlights...but that was a human form. And the lights were brighter to accommodate the second life form in the room. How...odd...she hadn't let anyone in. And no one had forced their way in, she was sure the door was still closed with no signs that it had ever been opened since she locked it after first coming home. This mystery had to be solved. Xai turned on the lights so they were on at full brightness, finally seeing what it was that was glowing in one of her chairs. It was a little glowing girl! She had bright blue hair, and bicolored eyes, and she was wearing so many brightly colored things...she even looked like she could actually be Xai's daughter. The little girl was staring up at her, and Xai stared right back.

That's pretty much all they did for what seemed like ages. They stared at each other while trying to think of what to do to break the ice. Were there a grandfather clock it would be ticking in the background, but as it was Xai lacked that little decorative piece, so they just stared at each other in total, awkward silence. It didn't look like it was going to end anytime soon either until realization suddenly struck Xai. Oh no! It...it couldn't be...that little girl...

She was sitting was sitting on her gloves!

Xai gasped and rushed forward to check on her gloves, seeing both of them sitting safely on the little girl's lap and not under her bottom. She sighed with relief and picked them up off the girl's lap, about to set them down elsewhere when she noticed something was odd about one of the gloves. The color in the lights was gone. Xai blinked and held a glove in each hand to compare them...no...she hadn't gone colorblind, the color on one of the gloves really was gone. If the color was gone did that mean..? No! Please say it isn't so! Xai was whimpering as she started pressing all the buttons on all the lights. Sure enough the colored lights shined bright and nothing happened with the dulled ones, not a single light. No, no, no! Something was wrong with her glove! The glowing girl just sat there blinking and staring at the woman who was clearly not paying attention to her. Oh, no, this just would not do. Not at all. She pouted and climbed off the chair, wobbling a few steps before falling forward on her hands and knees and crawling up to the older woman to tug on her skirt. Xai, still whimpering, looked down at the girl who was now at her feet. She had to go see Switch about her broken glove...but...she couldn't just leave this little girl here. She didn't know who the little girl was but she couldn't just leave her alone! That was irresponsible!

So Xaisholimikoki did the most responsible thing she could think of, she ran into the kitchen, turned off the oven, came back to hoist the girl up by her abdomen in her arm at her side and hurried out of the house with the a glowing child under one arm and a pair of gloves in her other hand. Quite an odd sight to see, but Xai didn't care she just wanted to get to the curio shop and talk to Switch the first chance she got.

Mess Makers Inc.

Oh no! Xai's glove is broken! Because of this she takes Evari with her to the curio shop she 'bought' the glove at to ask Switch what is happening. Switch informs her the glove wanted to live and so became the child she was holding hands with. Evari gets to meet Kay, Switch's son with a really, really cool headpet that she wishes she could have too. She's eventually released after asking Xai what her own name is so she could introduce herself to Kay and the two wander off to play.

This is stupid!

Evari was getting older by the day, she seemed to be maturing much faster than Xai had. How odd! She wasn't sure what to do! Perhaps...teach her? She was growing, so she needed to learn. But where to start? Xai asked around, asking other parents and other random people she met on the street.

The Alphabet? And numbers? Hm...but Evari already knew how to talk! Why would she need to know the alphabet? Shouldn't she already know the alphabet if she was speaking it? It didn't make much sense to her, but whatever, if the alphabet and numbers were things she needed to be taught then okay. She'd try it! She had found a place that offered books and dvds that helped teach a child, and she had crayons and papers. Time to get to work! This wasn't how she learned at home but this wasn't Ursontaea, this was Gaia, things worked differently on Gaia.

"Evari?" Xai called as she walked into the house, the door sliding shut behind her and the lights shining on as she walked through the house. Oh, there she was! She could see the girl giggling gleefully as she waved her glowing red arms around, music playing somewhere in the room as she danced oddly. It wasn't really dancing so much as it was her flailing her arms, moving her legs and turning her body this way and that. To Evari? This was dancing. Xai smiled as she watched her daughter dance happily, just standing there waiting for whatever song was playing to end. That particular song lasted all of five minutes, and Evari flopped backwards onto a nearby pillow that'd been thrown on the floor when she was done. "That was very good, Evari!" She complimented the proud girl who raised a fist in victory, panting tiredly as she dropped her hand and sat up. Huh? How weird! Mommy was carrying stuff! Lots of stuff!

"'Sat?" Evari asked, tilting her head and staring curiously at Xai who got down on her knees and put everything on the floor. DVDs? Ohoh! Were they going to watch movies? And crayons! She liked crayons a lot! Paint was better though, it was messier and you could do more with it. "Gimme!" She said excitedly and reached out with grabby hands, Xai picked up the stuff and hugged it to her chest.

"You forgot something." Evari blinked, staring dumbfounded. She forgot something? What did she forget?

"Gimme...now?"

"Nooooo. Try again." Evari's cheeks puffed out in frustration as she stared at her mother. What was she forgetting?! Just give her the crayons so she could play! They were hers! She wanted them! She wanted them now!

"Gimme now...please?!" Xai sighed. That would have to do. She put the crayons and paper down between the two of them and Evari immediately made a happy noise, grabbing the box of crayons and unceremoniously tearing the lid clean off. Oops! Oh well! They had a box for these anyway these crayons could go in! Since they were just going to get cleaned up later she went ahead and took the honor of being the one to dump the crayons out all over the floor between them, sifting through the rainbow of colors for the best one today. What was today's color of the day? Green? No. Orange? Bleh! Oooh! Purple! Xai sighed and pressed the heel of her hand to her forehead. Great, more mess to clean up. This child was just made of messes! But at least Evari had a crayon now! She herself picked a bright blue crayon and a piece of paper, staring curiously at the crayon. How...how did one hold these? On Ursontaea everything was done digitally, if they needed to handwrite something they literally used their hands and drew their fingers over the surface that they were writing on. This wasn't Ursontaea though, outside of her home she was going to need to write things. Ugh, guess now was as good a time as any to do it. Evari already had the crayon held in her fist and was drawing random scribble drawings that made no sense to anyone except herself. That wasn't how one held a writing utensil, she had seen it...

"Evari, I need you to pay attention." Xai said as sternly as she could manage. Evari blinked and stopped drawing, lying on her stomach with her legs kicking in the air and her cheek in her free hand. Huh? Why was Mommy acting all funny? Oh! Did she want to color too? ...Well she supposed she could share just this once, this was something Mommy had bought after all. Sharing was the least Evari could do. "You're getting older, and so you need to learn things. Like the alphabet, numbers, how to...write." They could learn that part together! Eh heh. Evari's brow furrowed and her eyes narrowed.

"...What?" The alphabet? What was that? Xai held the crayon, mimicking the Gaians she had seen as best as she could, and wrote on her paper. Evari watched, curious to see what her mommy was doing. Huh? Those weren't pictures! What was going on?! After a few minutes Xai was done; she had written the entire alphabet, Evari's name and her own. She turned the paper so Evari could read it properly. Evari blinked and merely started at it.

User Image

"Dat picchur's ugly." Xai rolled her eyes.

"That's not a picture. It's the alphabet, and that's your name, and that's mine. Try copying it." Evari made a face.

"No. S'stupid."

"You have to."

"No." Evari said a bit more firmly, her lips pressing together to form a thin line as her jaw clenched defiantly. Xai wasn't going to just quit, though.

"Evari, you have to--"

"NO! I don'wanna!" And she couldn't make her! Xai merely stood up and put her hands on her hips.

"There will be no dinner until you copy that." Evari gasped, whining and slamming her fists down on the floor. No! No! Nonono! She didn't want to! She wanted her dinner though! This wasn't fair! The Ursontaean didn't seem to pay her crying fit any mind, walking quietly to the kitchen instead. Evari grumbled angrily and raised one of her hands to rest her cheek against her fist, muttering nonsense as she copied the stupid picture. Eventually she got bored halfway through, however, and added in her own drawings. She made it better.

After about an hour Xai came out with two plates of food, stopping beside Evari to look down at her work. It...it was so messy! Ugh, this was going to be a long night. This girl had the attention span of a stoned cat. She set the food down for Evari and sat down beside her. Now that she'd practiced some writing the lesson on what she'd written could begin! After dinner.

And his name will be...Ted!

The back yard was interesting. Compared to the rest of the house it was very plain, there wasn't much out here because Xai didn't spend any time back here. There were no plants, except the trees that were here before her guardian landed on Gaia. Rocks, lots and lots of rocks. But this was boring. Evari had bubbles though! And a huge wand with a hole at the top shaped like a butterfly! Unfortunately the bubbles were not shaped like butterflies when she ran around and let the bubbles float to freedom.

The wand was a lie!

Evari sighed with disappointment and sat down near some rocks with her wand in hand, staring at it with a frown. Maybe Xai could make it better, maybe she could do something with all her techanopopsicalnessness so that the bubbles would really look like butterflies. Yeah! Xai could do anything! She was Xai! And so that meant she could do anything merely by default, because it was her job to keep Evari happy, and if Evari wasn't happy then Xai couldn't be happy. She'd make sure of that. She was about to get up and ask her guardian for help when she spotted something nearby. It was round, it was fat, it was kind of tall and it had two indents beside each other on the front like a pair of eyes. She gasped and tossed the wand carelessly over her shoulder like a piece of trash, because really this wand was totally last week's news, as she crawled over to the rock and picked it up. It had a face! That was so cool! It'd probably look even cooler with her paints. Eyes, new colors...wings...yes! This was going to be genius! But what could she make wings out of? Wings, wings, wings for her Rock Beetle. Wings. Evari held the rock in her hands and looked around for something that could be made into wings; this rock was going to be her pet. She was going to feed it, train it, take care of it, name it, love it, and call it George.

Okay, so maybe not George but she'd seen that in a cartoon. Maybe if she was mad at it she'd call it George.

Ah ha! Leaves! Evari grabbed a few leaves and found some mud at the very back of the yard, walking on over to where she saw a very thick patch of mud. She had played in the mud once, it stuck to her skin and she had to take a really long bath to get it off her skin and out of her hair; Xai also had to scrub the floors she had walked on as well as wash the walls she had decided to throw herself against when creating art for her guardian to enjoy, and then her clothes also had needed a good washing in the weird machine thinger that Xai put clothes in and then they later came out clean. Weird thing. But if the stuff worked that well then surely it would be able to make the wings stick to her new rock beetle! She sat down in the mud patch, not caring that she managed to cover her lower half almost completely in mud as she just fell back on her butt and caused it to splash every which way. She put the leaves on her knees and held the rock beetle in one hand; with her other she grabbed a handful of mud and slapped it onto the top of the rock. The splatter went everywhere and she was forced to close her eyes lest she blind herself with the dirt, but she opened the right back up and wiped her face with her arm. Alright! Phase one complete! Now she just needed to figure out how to get the wings on without tearing them. Evari picked up one of the leaves and tilted her head to the side, staring very seriously at the rock in one hand and the wing in the other. This was her masterpiece, her pet, it had to be perfect. But if she wasn't quick enough the mud would try too soon. She closed one eye and puckered her lips much like she had seen an artist do on television; if the artist did it and created amazing looking stuff then surely if she did it her pet rock beetle would look amazing as well. That was how it worked. There was no other way! Maybe if she added more mud? No, no. Too much mud would make it ugly and dirty! Evari put the rock on her lap and picked up another leaf, placing that on top of the other one. Four wings!

(Not finished)

LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!

Bored...

Bored...

Boooooooooored...

Still boooooored!

Evari grumped about the house, and she grumped outside. In her bedroom, in the living room, playing with Ted, in the back yard, in the front yard. Everywhere! Xai tried to find a way to entertain the girl, and at one point had actually gotten so frustrated by her constant rejections she started to develop a strangely painful sensation in her head and merely turned on the television screen in the living room for her to watch while she researched on the source of this strange pain. So now Evari sat inches from the screen, staring at it with wide eyes and a huge grin. Teeeeeeveeeeee! Colors and sounds and awesome stuff! At one point she'd run away to grab Ted off her bed, his nap time was over, and sat him on the couch cushion beside her. Now she and Ted could be entertained together!

The glowing girl and the 'rock beetle' were watching Dora the Explorer. It had everything Evari liked: Colors, talking stuff that really shouldn’t be talking, and the best. villain. ever. Swiper! But mean, nasty Dora was always telling Swiper not to swipe anything and making everyone clap and scare him away! Those fiends! She never clapped when she was told to; instead she pouted and crossed her arms. Unfortunately someone must have been clapping somewhere, because he always ran off in fear without taking anything. Man! Those jerks! This episode, however, was different. Swiper actually took something! He made off with Dora's umbrella! Ha, take that you doodie head! It made Evari laugh and clap with joy. That was awesome! She had closed her eyes as she clapped, but a strange sound made her open them again. That sounded like a spark. Huh? Evari blinked, staring at her hands as she clapped again. Colorful sparks of light glittered around her hands. What the...! Whoooa! Evari did it again, clapping several times instead of just once. One spark shot up into the air, twirling as it did and leaving a trail of light, making a loud, ear piercing cry that echoed through the house. Whooooooa! Xai came running into the room then with wide eyes, looking frantically around until she spotted Evari grinning proudly at her from the couch.

"E-Evari?"

"Checkit!" Evari clapped her hands more furiously this time, staring up toward the ceiling as sparks and fireworks shot out and up into the air. Xai cried out with surprise and fell back against the wall behind her, instinctively shielding her face from anything that could harm her. Wh-what was that?! The girl stood up on the couch and jumped around from cushion to cushion, giggling and cheering with glee as she clapped her hands together and made more fireworks fly all around her. Occasionally they could explode like glittering willow trees or flower blossoms, other times they would just sparkle all around her and leave a trail of glittering dust in their wake, but Evari's favorite seemed to be the ones that shot high into the air with their ear piercing screams. The way Xai reacted every time was so funny! She always cringed and tried to cover her ears. How could she not want to listen to this?! It was so cool!

"Could you...stop, please?" Xai asked with a wince. This wasn't helping the mysterious pain in her head; in fact it was making it worse! Evari grinned and shook her head.

"Nope!" Not because she couldn’t, because she probably could if she wanted to, but she didn't want to! Simple as that! She wasn't bored anymore, wasn’t that all that mattered? Xai whined for a moment, speaking in long words that Evari didn't understand. Sounded like when she went crazy with equations when she was making something better. She clapped some more, even trying different methods such as slapping her hands on the couch, on Ted, on her arms and face. Eventually Xai just couldn't take it anymore and shooed her outside where she could make as much noise as she wanted. Evari blinked. Huh...oh well~!

[Meta 1] The Gift to Evari and Xai

While preparing dinner Xai and Evari hear a knock at the door. Upon investigation there appears to only be a simple tiny little box on their doorstep. Weird? Who cares! Evari eagerly opens it and releases the strangest little ball of energy ever. It makes her look like a sloth! It...convinces Xai to go to Balcombe Curiosities, eats dinner with them (With horrible table manners), gets caught and terrified by Evari and then escorts the pair to the shop.

[Meta 1] In Which Something Happens! Oh mai.

The strange smoky critter leads Xai and Evari to the curio shop where several other children and their guardians seem to have gathered as well! 'Switch', or rather someone pretending to be her, informs the guardians that they need to become delivery boys and girls. And so Xai does just that, leaving Evari behind as requested with the other children.

Evari and Xai arrived at this point!

So Xai dutifully stumbles upon a coffee shop named Java Joe's, giving it a try expecting to meet a man named Java Joe. Instead she is met by what she assumes is a small child, probably his daughter, and gives her the box with...she has no idea what inside.

Read it here!

Meanwhile, Evari and the other children have helped the real Switch by collecting the smoky critters. But something has happened! Their powers have apparently been traded with each other?! Ryan begins to create fireworks, and when Evari realizes she can't...oh boy. Hell hath no fury like an Evari scorned? Poor Ryan...poor Switch, too!

Oh, and poor smoke thing. It's kinda screwed too.

Growth Prompt:

Evari is bright (colourful), loud (obnoxiously), and a complete and utter brat. She likes what she likes and that's that! Anything or Anyone else gets ignored. It's always the way she's been, and there probably isn't much that could change that. But...something suddenly caught her attention! And I mean REALLY caught her attention! For once, this thing kept her quiet, but completely enthralled. What was it that mellowed out this saucy little brat? How did she find it? How does Xai react to this?

JUST SHUT UP!

Xai liked Switch, she really did. The lady was very nice and very helpful. She herself was also a very lovely lady as well, very pretty; she especially liked the blue hair but she may have been biased. However, despite all these obviously redeeming qualities the owner of the Curiosities shop she had bought that pair of gloves from...Xai couldn’t help but occasionally wish to strangle the woman on some days. Today was one of them. Evari was running around with her paints, but at least she wasn’t bored. Quite frankly Xai might have preferred it if her daughter was bored, she loved the girl and all but there were a lot of times where she just drove the poor Ursontaean completely bonkers, and lately she was getting these 'headache' things more and more often. It was starting to really get to her.

Evari was singing at the top of her lungs along with a television show, which was all well and dandy or it would be if she wasn't splashing paint everywhere. "Evari..." Xai put a hand on her face, her blue and pink eyes closed and just waiting. She wanted to go make lunch but she needed to know what Evari wanted. Evari ignored her, or didn't hear her, whatever the case she just kept twirling and dancing around the coffee table with paint all over her hands and occasionally slapping them down on the paper covering the whole table. She was making...art. It was something alright. "Evari, what do you want for lunch?" The word lunch got the glowing child's attention. She stopped everything she was doing to stare at Xai with wide eyes, looking almost thoughtful. What did she want for lunch? Hm...

"Whadda you want Ted?" Evari picked up her pet rock to look him in the 'eye', and Xai opened one eye to watch the girl pretend to have a silent conversation with the rock. She honestly hoped her daughter wasn't quite that insane, but she was quiet that was all that mattered. Suddenly Evari grinned and turned her head to her guardian, she had made her decision. "We want CHEESEBURGERS~!" Oh, crap. They'd just used the last of the ground beef for last night's dinner and Xai hadn't had the chance to get more yet. This would not fare well for the young Ursontaean, who slid her hand down her face until both her arms were across her stomach, holding her elbows and sighing down at Evari.

"Evari, I'm sorry. We can't have cheeseb--"

"WHAT?!" Evari's eyes were wide with what could only be described as a look of pure horror. They...they couldn't have cheeseburgers?! But why?! Why! Why! WHY!? They could always have cheeseburgers! Always! Always! Always! Xai visibly flinched and shrunk away a bit, just bracing herself for the oncoming onslaught of screams and cries and yells and possibly getting paint thrown at her. But...it didn't come? Evari's bottom lip began to quiver and her eyes started to water. Oh...oh god...

"Eva--"

"I. WANT. CHEESEBURGERS!" The little glowing girl wailed, screeching at the top of her lungs. Xai winced and covered her ears but it did nothing to stop her from hearing Evari cry, scream and yell. That was it! She couldn’t take it anymore! Xai groaned and fled into her bedroom, closing the door and trying her best to block out the noise. Evari's tantrum didn't let up. It was when Xai thought she was going to go insane that she spotted it: There was a roll of strange tape she had bought called 'Duck tape'...oh wait, no. Duct tape. It wasn't a duck at all. It was used when you wanted to fix something, bind something...close something...

Were it possible her lightbulb of an idea would have been visible enough to light up the entire room. A shame it was just a metaphorical thing. That was her answer! She wanted to close Evari's mouth if only for a little while! Grabbing the tape, Xai opened the door and walked back out into the living room where Evari was on her stomach kicking and screaming and slamming her hands on the floor. Xai frowned and picked her up by her flailing arm, sitting her down on the couch and unpeeling the tape. She ripped off a nicely sized piece and slapped it onto the girl's mouth before she even knew what hit her. Literally. Evari shut right up, tears still streaming down her face and colorful eyes fluttering madly. Wh-what was this!? She sniffled and got up off the couch to go into the bathroom, pushing her stepping stool to the sink and climbing onto it to stare at herself. She blinked, tilting her head and poking at the strange plastic thing on her mouth. She tried talking but her mouth wouldn’t move; all that came out was a loud 'MMMMMMMM!' sound.

Whoa...this...this was kinda cool! Evari giggled and did it again, recreating the loud 'MMMMMMMM!' noise followed by a muffled laugh. This was awesome! Xai had been expecting some kind of escalation in her temper and for her to remove it immediately, but she wasn't going to lie if asked how relieved she was that Evari seemed to be pleasantly distracted by this new situation. It wasn't much of a punishment but if it made Evari stop screaming she would take it. Evari was still making noise but the point was that she was quiet about it, and she seemed to be rather happy...odd. Xai wasn't going to complain. She let out a relieved sigh and rubbed at her face with her hand, closing her eyes as she made her way into the kitchen. She could make lunch in peace now since Evari seemed to be very happily distracted. This was good; she could only hope it would work in the future. Evari hopped off the stool and skipped out of the bathroom, her hands on the duct tape shutting her mouth and humming a happy little tune. It wasn't anything in particular in fact she was making it up as she went along. It felt really cool! She hopped around to the other side of the couch and picked up Ted, grinning as best as she could behind the duct tape and pointing at it. "Mmmm! Mmmm~!" She mumbled against the tape, staring at the rock for a minute with wide eyes and suddenly giggling. She had to go thank Xai!

Ted was put back down on the couch and Evari ran into the kitchen where a surprisingly content Xai was making them lunch, she didn't know what it was but she didn't actually care right now, instead she tugged at the bottom of Xai's dress until she had her guardian's attention. Xai blinked and looked down half expecting to find her throwing another tantrum, but Evari was...smiling? That was a smile, right? It was hard to tell with the tape in the way but the rest of her face looked pretty happy! "Yes?" She asked warily, watching the girl with every bit of cautiousness as a gazelle standing before a sleeping lion. However, Evari did something she did not expect her to do; she threw her arms around Xai's legs in a big, tight hug, humming happily and nuzzling her cheek against the Ursontaean. Xai blinked again and just...stared. What? She...she was hugging? She'd never done that before! Not to Xai anyway. She put the knife she had been cutting with down on the counter and nudged Evari away from her with her knee, throwing the girl off until she got down on her knees and hugged her back. It was Evari's turn to be confused and wary, eventually humming again and hugging around her guardian's neck. The two blue-haired girls sat quiet for a few minutes, swaying gently and just hugging.

Evari eventually let go and sniffed around. She smelled food. Delicious food...but she couldn't eat with this tape on her mouth! She stared at Xai and pointed at the tape, her head canting to the side and humming again. "Mm?" Mm? What did mm mea--oh! She wanted it off? Okay. Xai held a corner of the strip between her thumb and index finger, counting to three in her head and then just ripping it off. Evari screeched, her hands flying to her mouth and staring at Xai with wide eyes. What the heck?! That hurt! Xai flashed her an apologetic smile.

"I'm sorry that hurt. Come on, lunch is almost ready. Wash your hands." She stood then and pat Evari's head. The girl nodded and ran off, still covering her mouth with both hands. Xai chuckled and turned back to the counter with a shake of her head, chopping up a few more vegetables so they could finally have lunch in peace.

CHECK IT!

Evari had been acting weird, well weirder than usual anyway. She was lethargic and moody...er...and even the red glow that emanated from her skin had dulled until it was almost gone completely. The poor girl looked a wreck! "Evari? Are you sick?" Xai leaned over the back of the couch with a look of concern, reaching down to rest one hand on Evari's forehead while the other pressed against her own, comparing the warmth of the two. This was, however, a useless action because it was something she had seen someone on tv do and had no idea what she was even looking for. But it was the thought that counted, right? Evari's skin felt fine. The girl shrugged and stared blankly at the show that was playing right now, lying across the couch and hugging Ted against her chest. She felt fine...? Sort of. She just felt so uncomfortable all of a sudden. She wasn't sick, she wasn't tired. It was like she was wearing clothes that were too tight for her. This brought a frown to Xai's lips, reaching down to carefully scoop up the girl (Rock and all) and rest her on her hip. "Come on, you're going to bed. Maybe you'll feel better after a good night's sleep." Evari nodded and buried her face into the girl's shoulder, hugging Ted against her chest and letting Xai take her to her room with no complaint, no fuss, not fighting. It was...incredible. Worrisome, but incredible. The lights in Evari's room lit when the conscious life-form sensors caught Xai's presence, allowing the Ursontaean to walk around the toys that were scattered throughout Evari's room without stepping on one or slipping or hurting herself and possibly even Evari. They made it to the girl's bed without issue and Xai tucked her in, leaving Ted on the nightstand beside her and leaning in to leave a little kiss on her dull forehead. "Sleep well, Evari." The girl was already unconscious by then, and she figured it was just her falling asleep rather quickly. It was too bright in the room for her to realize that her glow had vanished completely. She left the room and closed the door, the lights in Evari's room dimming until they were off when Evari was left on her own.

The rest of the night was relatively quiet, Xai sat in the living room tinkering with a strange looking piece of technology, her floating data ring spinning rapidly as she did like a cd processing in a computer. She appeared to be in her own little world of concentration when a loud popping noise startled her and made her jump, dropping the object and watching it bounce across the floor like a ball. What was that? There was another series of loud pops, similar to the sounds of...fireworks? Since there was only one explanation she could think of behind this strange sound she stood and wandered down the hall toward Evari's room, looking down at the floor to see strange bright lights shining through the space between the door and the floor. Red, blue, green, yellow, purple...all the colors flashing over and over again for what felt like ages, it was only a few seconds though. As suddenly as they had started the popping, whistling and shrieking of the fireworks stopped.

...What just happened?

"E...Evari?" What should she do? Should she open the door? She should check on her, right? But what if Evari did this then she'd just be giving the girl what she wanted. She was supposed to be sleeping not causing more chaos. No answer came. "Evari are you al--" The door flew open before she had the chance to move closer and do it herself. There stood...Evari? Wait was that really Evari? The girl that stood before her was taller, thinner, her hair was longer too. She still glowed, she her eyes were the right color, but she looked so different all the same! Evari's eyes were huge and the look on her face was one of pure pride and joy, one hand on the door and the other on the doorframe as if holding herself up with their support. She wasn't used to being this height, she probably needed it.

"CHECK IT!" She finally said with a huge grin. She was BIGGER! Xai's eyes widened and she stepped back a little bit, a hand resting on her chest and looking Evari up and down. She looked...so different, but the same? It was...

...

Crap. She was bigger which made her older. Xai dragged a hand down her face and just stared. Being older meant she had to give her a smidgen more freedom, even if she still appeared to be a teeny little girl. Ugh...no this wasn't happening. Evari still looked proud, excitedly looking down at herself until she noticed something. She was naked! Oh no! Her clothes! "My clothes won' fit!" Noooo! This was horrible! Xai sighed.

"I will look for things to fit you. Come along." She waited for Evari to push herself off the doorframe and lead the glowing girl to her own room. Surely something in her closet would at least cover her.

Ugh. This was going to be both a blessing and a curse, she could tell already.
