Short Prologue: Silence is Golden
Loud noises, conversely must be Silver...
--------------------------------------------------------------

An old vampire bat stirred in the cage of Mama Vivisali's shoppe of oddities. He was amongst the many familiars on display that was for sale. Just earlier today a woman with fiery red hair and mischievous eyes seemed rather interested in him but only reached between the cage's bars and scritched him upon the head between his ears (where he liked it best) before she simply turned and left him to continue sleeping. The bat wasn't bothered by the lack of interest, he liked it here. The old woman made sure he was fed and cared for. Every now and again he was released to the outside and he always came back because this was the only home and place of comfort he knew. If he had ever lived amongst other bats of his own kind he could not remember, he was too damned old to care.

Several hours passed as they always do and soon a commotion was felt and heard from somewhere within the shop. The bat stirred and unfolded his wings to peer about the darkened interior before he just settled his delicate wings back around himself with a sleepy sigh. For whatever reason he was sleepier than usual and he only hunched down further as if hoping to avoid the racket that way. Whatever was going on he'd deal with it later, much later. Damned humanoids...

No Rest for the Elderly nor the Wicked
Newer, younger, better improved.
--------------------------------------------------------------

While the bat itself could be described as 'old' in age and mentality it wasn't exactly 'old' in body thanks to the magic that it was infused with. A familiar suited little purpose if it had the lifespan and limited mental capability of a normal animal. It was the woman's first time using an animal of such caliber. Mixing magics was a dangerous proposition but still she wanted to see what would happen. What fun was magic when you couldn't explore every little cranny of it?

Almost a week later, it had seemed, nothing had happened. The strange woman had snuck back in but this time in guise of a small curious girl following around an adult at random pretending that they were her parent, without the adult being aware they were followed by someone small and seemingly innocent looking. The 'little girl' peered toward where the bat was kept and was delighted to see that it hadn't been sold off. She had intended this little tidbit for the kind little old woman that had run this shop, much like the pretty little Nightshade girl.

Yet, there was something different about the shop, the 'little girl' noted with a bit of a tilt to her head as she watched a strange woman with white hair and golden skin, and feathered tail wander toward the familiars as if to check on them. Despite the change of form there was no doubt about it, it was the old woman that owned the shop. The 'girl' grinned happily. So she wasn't the only one that liked to experiment it seemed! She wasn't surprised as much as she was gleeful that the woman was now younger looking and seemed to move about easier, good. She'd be around a lot longer to raise the little darlings! The 'girl' had been worried after the incident with the Nightshade girl. The woman had aged greatly soon after. With a feel of relief the shaman in small girl sighed and suddenly the seemingly old Vampire Bat seemed to explode into flame with a wild screech of mild dismay.

Mama 'Nym' Vivisali gave a gasp as she stepped hastily from the cage she had just opened in order to give the Bat his food. The 'Familiar' gave another wild screech as he zoomed from out of the cage and began to flap about the shop in a pattern that was chaotic and worrisome to Mama, staff, and customers. Finally the bat crash landed at the golden skinned woman's feet and laid there twitching and before her very eyes turned into a small pale and crimsoned eye boy with wings, bat ears, and toes. There were other features of note but they were the main ones that were immediately noticed. The small batboy was thankfully dressed instead of being (re)born into the world nude and without cover. The boy lay there for a moment, coiled up but his eyes opened.

The small boy felt as if something was trying to beat and flutter its way out of his chest. Small hands and wing-talons went to his chest clutching at the cloth there trying to calm the fluttering creature in his chest. This moment, whatever it was, felt exhilarating he'd do anything, anything to feel this way again. He slowly sat up feeling woozy and stared at the wide amethyst gaze of the golden woman before him. The small boy stood up and reached up toward her without realizing the reason for it. He just knew that she was his.

"Mom," he said simply as he continued to reach for her.

Nym held her hands over her stomach for a moment as if trying to hold onto it for a center of gravity. This was the second time this had happened to her over the past few months. She leaned down and picked up the boy feeling momentarily numb before she finally gave the boy a gentle smile and ruffled his tousled dark hair, "Yes, dear." She murmured with much the same automatic acceptance that she had given the small Nightshade girl that was asleep up in the apartments. "You are my Nosferatu." Nym said affectionately, naming him in much the same automatic way she had named Magdalena before him.

The golden woman held him against her hip as the customers now went back to their business of browsing. The 'little girl' had slipped out once more unnoticed. Mama shifted her shoulders as she moved to the counter to show the small boy off to anyone that cared to see him. The young succubus shop-attendant was still in a bit of a shock (as was evident by her coloration of hair and tail), but soon got over it and began to coo at the boy.

Nosferatu ate up the attention soon enough. It was as it should be, all eyes on him!

Old friends and new additions...
Backdated to: December
--------------------------------------------------------------

Nym quietly lingered over the small bed where the two children slept. One child had features of a vampire bat the other one had features of the nightshade plant that she grew and cultivated. The golden skinned woman sighed but smiled as she rubbed the side of her neck. It was odd how two children just suddenly appeared to her out of seemingly no where. Why was she suddenly so blessed? Usually she waited until she was 'young' again and formed a family and maybe had one or two of her own, this time she didn't even have to wait.

...Now she was probably young forever and it was possible that she wouldn't even be able to have one or two of her own. She still felt a lot of anxiety about having forgotten much of her craft during her 'transition' from old to young through the new method that she had devised using an old friend's blood. A hand went up to rub the side of her golden skinned face. Right now she'd settle for being able to change back to a 'normal' skin tone.

The hand went to her face to brush against the hair of the small batboy and then caress the side of the face of the nightshade girl. They were so precious so she'd count her blessings for now, while they are young; because she had a feeling she'd need this new found youth to keep up with them. When they get older they might not seem much of a blessing for all that it may entail.

Humming softly she began to wander back to her room here another young woman laid on her bed. She was glad that the succubus had lent her blood to the purpose even if it seemed to have come at a heavy price. Nym settled on the bed next to her best friend and closed her eyes with a small sigh. She was glad that Desdemona had come to her aid when she needed her dearest, oldest friend the most. Maybe she could talk the succubus into staying and helping out until she got to her full strength. With that thought hanging in her mind she fell into another deep dreamless sleep.

Dear Journal...
Nym's Journal Entry
--------------------------------------------------------------

A 'new' body...Though it isn't new as much as it is my old one just made younger and various other things. I have a damned tail now, how do I deal with that? The powers that be thought it would be real hilarious to give me 'odd' features. It isn't like Gaia doesn't have oddities of its own; no one is exactly 'the same'. That isn't counting those who copy others and what not...

I digress.

It seems that I also lost the memory of a lot of my spells. I am a little unnerved by this. I can't even do a simple cantrip. If I can't do spells then I cannot renew the protections around my shop and home, this could get dangerous if people sense that I am defenseless. What will happen to my little family then? Especially the two small ones I now have?

Magdalena and Nosferatu fight like cats and dogs every now and again it drives everyone up the wall. Yet there is something affectionate in the way Nos picks on Maggie so I suppose we shouldn't complain too much about it. It just seems to get the poor little girl up into such a lather. I have to calm her if it gets too out of control. Then of course I have to scold him and then he wanders off to play by himself and pout. He keeps asking for more toys of his own, he seems attracted to musical things, mayhap I'll get him some sort of equivalent at some point but what?

Bah, speak of the devil; I think he's made Maggie cry again...

He wanted a guitar but I couldn't bring myself to just buy him a straight out guitar with how young he is. Though Magdalena has her very own lap harp but she is so much gentler than Nosferatu is. It is one of those things where I just have to think of a compromise and hope it doesn't bite me in the tail feathers in the end. It took a lot of arguing and sulking but I think this is for the best. My dear friend Desdemona helped me look for options and even chipped in on the toy. She wanted to get him a real guitar but I advised against it and I believe my point was proven when he broke a row of my vials because he decided to horseplay in my shop with Daedalus.

Of course this particular toy required that some additional things were purchased on top of it, like the game and the game system. By far Nosferatu is probably my more expensive child as far as his needs and wants go. Magdalena is often pleased with simple things here and there, just give her the harp and she is good to go. Nosferatu, however, wants things, a lot of them. Which is not a bad thing, mind you, but it also seems as if he is hard to please. He will often play with what he has and not really ask for anything so long as it keeps his interest, which is very fickle indeed at times.

Sometimes I think he delights in giving me a heart attack by climbing things and leaping off of them. He also has a fairly active imagination as well. The things he comes up with are fairly odd and sometimes a little ... disturbing. I think it is because he sneaks into the parlor where the television is and watches late night horror movies, the little brat. I wish I never showed him how to work the television; he is far too smart for his own good.

Thus far he is taking care of that 'toy' guitar which is a good thing, he treats it like it is his first born child so perhaps soon we can invest in a real guitar for him to play and actually learn on if he keeps behaving so well. He spends a good amount of time playing with it so I suppose it means that he approves of the guitar or he is doing it just to spite me. I think I'm leaning toward spite.

Dear Journal...
Nym's Journal Entry
--------------------------------------------------------------

Nosferatu enjoys terrorizing others it seems. It isn't like he does it out of ill spirit or anything but some of the things he comes up with sometimes. I am amazed sometimes that he doesn't give himself nightmares with some of the things he says, does, and watches. It is like he thrives off of the excitement and energy of the whole thing or something. He has started to sing and write his own songs here recently just out of boredom he will come up with some sort of strange diddy and sing it on varying octaves. His favorite octave, unfortunately, is screaming and yelling at the top of his lungs. Though in general, if he sings nicely, it is a rather pleasant tone. I do not want to discourage his natural talent but the screaming and yelling is somewhat unsettling, especially for gentle Magdalena who likes her quiet times.

I am not sure if I will ever be able to compromise with him on this but I suppose I will just have think about it for a while. Right now he's being quiet and playing his guitar game ... At the loudest possible volume that he can.

..Sigh.

Also he's been sprouting some rather foul language...Do I punish him or do I just let it go on like I don't notice it? If I punish him it'll just make it seem that much more enticing to say such things. Maybe I can curb some of that language a bit or try to.

To rock out and not pay attention...
Nosferatu's Entry

Translation: Momma sed I had to write stupid journul ehntree so hre it iz. Byes

Getting Nosferatu to sit still and learn to read and write was a little, no a lot, like pulling teeth. He didn't hold any interest at all and his mind often would wander as he lazily scribbled out the letters with a sort of half-hearted glazed over look in his eyes. Every now and again he would try to get out of it or sneak away only to have his Mother drag him back to the table where Magdalena was quite happily writing out her lessons with a neat and exact hand for anything less seemed to bother the small nightshade girl.

After a few moments of this back and forth Nym had dropped the batboy onto Desdemona's lap. The succubus had been laughing at the whole thing with great amusement and mirth but now she found it less than amusing as the small boy looked up at her with a mischievous grin upon his lips.

The succubus let out a deep sigh, pleading out of it wasn't going to help. Nym was going to ignore her if she tried. "Tell you what, if you behave and do this lesson I'll get you one gift of your choice. It can be anything you want." Desdemona grinned as she offered her bribe and Nosferatu seemed to light up considerably.

"Alright!" He replied as he scuttled off of her lap and took her hand pulling at it to drag her back at the table for the lesson. Nosferatu knew exactly what he wanted! He'd get Auntie Dessie to buy it for him right after the lesson.

Tea parties and Vampires...
Sibling Time...
--------------------------------------------------------------

He wasn't sure how or even why this happened but he was sitting at the small table with a tea set in front of him wearing the frilliest and most flowery hat ever in existence. The brim was somewhat floppy and fell into his crimson gaze making him all that much more irritable. Across from him sat Magdalena pouring imaginary tea into his cup and the cup of their other playmates which consisted of various stuffed animals. Nosferatu tugged at his apron which he sloppily put on after talking his sister down from a dress, which was what she originally wanted him to wear.

"We done yet?" He asked in a surly tone as he sat there with his wings folded at his collar bone and his arms moved to cross over his chest.

Magdalena peered over her brother with an arched eyebrow for a moment or two as she gently set down the teapot and shook her head, "Not until you've eaten all of your cakes, drank some tea, and told me how delightful it was to walk down to the lake with your husband, Lady Vandermere."

He started and peered toward the door and witnessed the retreating tail of a certain succubus and he narrowed his eyes sharply. He knew he heard someone trying to hold back a chuckle. Nosferatu vowed to himself to get back at her and at his sister later. Oh he'd get them both.

"Fine," he grabbed the small cake their mother had made for them and uncouthly shoved it in his mouth, chewed sourly, and then grabbed the tea (which in reality was just water) and gulped down the small cupful and set the empty cup down and announced firmly, "it was great. Can I go now?" The hat was starting to annoy him severely as was the perfume that his sister had sprayed on the animals and him. The cloying scent was making him feel dizzy, the truth be told.

Magdalena sighed lightly and shrugged her shoulders, "Fine we'll play what you wanted to play," she now gave up, besides she had enough to blackmail him with for days. The shy young flower was becoming more assertive and sneakier as the days went on. While he sat there she had gotten pictures of him greeting the stuffed animals (on her command) in greeting while he was dressed as a 'proper lady' amongst other images with her toy camera (that worked and produced images as a real camera should). It was hard being 'sneaky' like that but she thought she managed it, though he did stare at her suspiciously after a couple of clicks....

Nosferatu gleefully stripped away the hat and apron and put his hands on his hips as he stared at her. What game should he get her to play that would make up for the demeaning moment that he had gone through here?

"We're gonna play pretend, and we are gonna play a game I call 'Vampire'. You are the damsel and I'm gonna bite'choo and drink your blood." Nosferatu announced. Sure the game wasn't a stretch of the imagination but if he got to bite his sister in vengeance he wasn't going to quibble with details.

Magdalena made an odd face at the proposal but allowed it, "Just don't bite so hard and let me hide!" she whined faintly wringing at her fingertips.

"Fair 'nough," the small batboy allowed as he turned, closed his eyes and ducked his head covering it with his wings and began to count. "Onnnnnnne. Twoooooooo...."

The nightshade girl fretted a moment before she made a strange hurried gait out of the room and to a hiding spot while her brother counted time away. It wouldn't take him long to find her, but she wasn't going to make it easy, either.

On Our Playroom Wall...
Nos, Maggie, and Luc's Art Fair Collaboration
--------------------------------------------------------------

User Image

Left: Nosferatu | Right: Magdalena | Bottom: Lucien

"Finally, took you long enough!" Nos drawled as he sat in the playroom and observed as their mother finally hung their copy of the art collaboration from the Children's Art Fair that had taken place some months ago. Nosferatu and Magdalena had been bugging Nym about framing and hanging it for some time.

Magdalena was more patient than her brother, obviously, and simply shook her head, "Mommy's busy! She has stuff to do," she retorted quietly defending Nym, "thank you mama~." The small nightshade girl chimed happily.

Nym looked from one toddler to the other and gave a small laugh, "You're both welcome. You two can resume play, dinner will be done soon."

"...Hopefully dinner will be done quicker than the time it took ya to hang our picture," Nosferatu quipped back at Nym only to have her flick one of his pointed ears as she wandered past him. The batboy yelped a bit and covered his head to defend himself from further attacks. "No fair!"

"Very fair, now be good to each other," Nym chuckled and left the room leaving the two to their games.
