I would rather they axed some of the features, rather than the staff. It must cost Gaia a decent amount of cash to aquire and run the movie theaters, and I'm sure they have to pay some sort of fee for the celebrity items in the MTV store. Personally I could do without those two locals and have the staff back. But then again I don't know how much money they recieve from advertising films and MTV so it's not a very informed opinion. sad

I wonder if some of it has to do with the fact that Obama got elected. I am pretty sure that Gaia makes more than $250,00. a year.

No, the raised taxes apply to individuals that earn more than 250,000 dollars a year. Also, according to either Fin or Lanzer (I forget which), Gaia is not making a profit right now as a company anyways. It's losing money.

Obama isn't even in office yet, so his policies haven't been enacted at this moment. That will soon change. But I think everybody is hurting no matter what political affiliation. Even if Gaia was based in Canada, China, or some other country they'd still be hurting in some way. Unfortunatly this thing is global.

This really is terrible, but considering the economy, not unexpected. They should start removing unneeded site features, but that might not cut enough costs for them. Now they might start looking at removing those, but they needed something that would help right away. Plus, all the money from those site features would just go into something else so no money would really be saved.
I wish that this never happened, but we just have to do our best to support everyone right now.

It is a sad time when I heard that they laid off people.
I really like DJ Helsing. I was glad that I met him in person.
I got to hold his jacket. XD

The Iron Magus Yeata Zi Welcome to the New Depression, TIM. So much of my family has been laid off recently it's terrible. I'm really sorry to hear that... I guess that sucks a lot more than whatever's happening on Gaia. It's just it isn't really anybody's fault. An internet site with no real baring in the world is of course going to suffer during an economic crash of this magnitude. Just like my family's landscaping company. I'd cut landscaping before I cut telephone lines, you know? Just like I'd stop buying stuff on Gaia before I'd stop buying food. There's really no way to avoid it. Life sucks.

Christmas for me is always ruined. It sucks for me every year. If something doesn't happen on Christmas day it happens on Christmas break. I ******** hate Christmas. Edit: Just thinking about that makes me want to cry (but that is for more than one reason though).
