Technique and musicality complaints aside, I disliked the movie because it glorifies having a shitty, arrogant attitude which in a real line would completely destroy the chemistry. And I can't imagine that there's ever any real life situation where one single instrumentalist is irreplaceable, especially a snare drummer.

I know, I mean if he couldn't read music in the first place, i think they would've figured that out a long time ago. It doesn't really make any sense @-@

I think the movie is okay. I realize that the main actors probably weren't all that good, but they had actual marching bands play the main part of the band and I'd assume the non-main characters of the drum line.
As for the guards... GAH! The dancers were technically auxiliary, I know, but the rival band had an actual guard, and they made me want to vomit. They were in... what? Two shots? And in neither of them were they doing anything except not spinning together at all or just running around holding their flags in the air and not even spinning them. That was really annoying.

Kokihi ...fail.(i was referring to you.) the actors don't play the instrument perfectly, thats ok. Find me an actor who can play snare flawlessly(hint: theres a really good chance you wont. like 1000 to 1). Your being overly critical. If it was DCI that we were watching, i would agree with you, because thats what they do! Music isn't what these people do, they act. you don't have to be a tight a** about it. its a good, entertaining movie. I heart the movie drumline. hell, so does everyone else on my line. we play a cadence from the movie for gods sake. . . . fail (i am now referring to you referring to her) I thought the movie was AWFUL. And yeah, it was too ghetto-ee for me as well neutral The acting was okay, but the characters they played I just wanted to slap. Last year and band we had a kid who was new to band and didn't know how to read music. We didn't make him learn snare music, we just taught it to him and he memorized it surprised and then when concert band came we let him learn naturally. He's really good now biggrin and yeah, the whole guard in the movie . . . .URGH

Wow I never noticed the flats and sharps. But yeah, the storyline is pretty sucky.
I watch it whenever it's on because I just like the cadences they do (I'm not a percussionist but I freak out over marching snares)

I don't like the movie Drumline at all. But not because anything about they way they play drums, Actually I relate to Nick Cannon's character beacuse I have a terrible time attepmting to read music. I just don't like how it's all ghettofied. Not racists, I just don't like movies that are all about being a stereotypical black man.

I don't think the movie was made to appeal specifically to band kids no matter how much we want the movie to. All I can say is that it's reality and at the end of the day they're out to make money and they accomplished that. We will get a movie that represents us in a good way one day, we just have to wait. And how many actors are even talented enough to get rhythms and drill right? Not many...

someone should make a movie that is about a drumline trying to win DCI or something like that instead of that piece of crap

OMG SHINY PIDGEY Technique and musicality complaints aside, I disliked the movie because it glorifies having a shitty, arrogant attitude which in a real line would completely destroy the chemistry. Hear hear! If any drummer in our corp or band had an attitude like that. they would be running til they are 87.

I think it's a fine movie to watch for entertainment purposes, but I dislike that it ungolrified band as a whole. He had a shitty attitude, the guard was horrible, and there flat out was no band beyond the drumline. It makes you embarrassed when you mention being in band and someone says "Like that movie drumline?"
