. razz lease allow me to introduce myself:.
Mara stared at the woman kneeling in front of her. She had pretty blond hair and a nice, smiling face. Mara glared as the grown-ups talked over her head, explaining to this nice-looking lady that the angry little fanged girl would be going home with her.
"Mara, my name is Naomi." The woman said, her voice trembling a little. Mara wasn't sure the lady necessarily wanted to take her home and she wasn't sure she necessarily wanted to go with her. Nevertheless, it was going to happen so she might as well try to be nice. Being nice wasn't something Mara was particularly skilled at.
"Mi." Mara said, eyeing the lady. The whole name was too much to pronounce. Raising her arms, she demanded "Up!" Imperiously. Naomi rose and lifted the little girl in her arms. She was stronger than she looked. Mara grinned, her fangs lending her a certain look of malice. "Up!" She exclaimed again, pleased that the lady had done as she bid. To show her pleasure, she bit the lady on the shoulder.
"Ow!" Naomi startled, dropping Mara onto the ground.
"Ow!" Mara echoed, glaring back. It wasn't so much in her nature to cry as it was to get pissed. Why did everyone get so upset when she showed them that she liked them? "OwOwOw!" Mara howled in rage.
"oh yeah... she bites." There was amusement in the grown-up-white-coat's voice as he mentioned that little tidbit to Naomi.
"So I see..." Naomi responded wryly, rubbing her shoulder. She was lucky Mara hadn't broken the skin, she was also informed.
"Owowowowow!" Mara continued to howl from the floor until Naomi bent down and picked her up again. "Mi!" Having displayed her possible affection for the woman, Mara didn't feel the need to bite her again and instead wrapped her arms around the lady's neck, burrowing against her as if seeking a hiding place. The grownups kept talking like she wasn't even there. Mara was used to that enough by now that it didn't bother her. She was content to snuggle up against the lady and her nice soft sweater.
Eventually the lady took her to a car and drove a long way. Mara fell asleep in the car, her winged ears twitching fitfully, her features peaceful in sleep as they never were when she was awake. She felt the car stop, felt the lady's arms around her as she was carried into the house and up the stairs.
"This is your room..." Naomi said, setting Mara down on the bed. The little girl surveyed her new domain. There was the bed and a window and a little toybox in the corner. The room was painted a soft cream color and the carpet was a warm light brown. It was a friendly, unassuming room. Mara hated it. But she was too sleepy at the moment to do anything about it. As the lady tucked her into bed, Mara gave her hand a soft n**. The lady made a noise but really, Mara thought, she'd barely even caught the skin. It's not like she'd hurt the lady. With her mind full of rebellious thoughts, the little girl drifted back to sleep.
Naomi went downstairs and spread antiseptic cream on her shoulder and her fingers, then poured herself a glass of wine. Good lord... what had she ever done to deserve this? She wondered idly to herself. Now she was going to have to leave her job again. At least for awhile. Mara was not a kid one could trust to be alone.

.:The Angry Alphabet:.
"Eh. Beh. Seee. Dee. Eeee. Eff. Gee." Mara hummed tunelessly to herself, dipping her hand into the bright red water-soluble fingerpaint Naomi had provided her with. She liked the bright colors that filled up the trays. She didn't so much like the butcher paper that had been set down for her to practice her alphabet on. She remembered the song and she had a page with the letters painted on it by Naomi. But she'd stubbornly refused to practice her letters downstairs in the living room, opting to do it all by herself in her bedroom. Her softly colored restful bedroom.
"Ech. Eye. Jay. Kay. Ellomenopee." Mara admired her paint-covered palm with a wicked little smile before placing it squarely on the wall just below her eye-line, leaving a perfect handprint. That was better. Much, much better. Mara took a wobbly step backwards and admired the vivid imperfection marring her wall. "Cue arrr ess..." She dipped her hand into the blue paint without bothering to wash the red off and smeared a weird purplish line above the handprint. Yes. That was nice.
"Tee Yooou Veee..." She added some green handprints for good measure before turning back to the red paint. Red was definitely her preferred color, she had decided. "Dub'yooou ex...." With an almost painful deliberation, Mara wiped her paint-colored hands on her dress and then stepped in the paint, one clawed foot in the blue and one in the yellow. "Whyyyy an' zeee!" She finished singing triumphantly, before a movement caught the corner of her eye. Turning, she saw something that made her eyes widen.
It was bright green and red and looked like a kitty with a beak and wings. "Kitty!" Mara exclaimed, her face breaking into a rather wicked looking grin of delight. With those fangs, though, almost every smile made her look rather vicious. She ran across the floor leaving three-toed footprints behind her. "Kitty!" The gryphkit's eyes got wide and it fled swiftly. It was fast. Mara, unsteady as she was on her feet, was not fast enough. "Kitty..." She said mournfully, her eyes narrowing. It had slipped into Naomi's bedroom. Trailing a pattern of paint-prints in her wake, Mara went a-hunting.
"Eh. Beh. See. Dee. C'mon kitty... play with meee..." Chuckling at her cleverness, Mara slipped into Naomi's room. It was spotless and perfect. And there, peeking out from under the bed, was a colorful twitching tail. Letting out a whoop of triumph, Mara leapt on the tail and yanked.
The gryphkit hissed, turning it's claws and beak angrily on the little girl. Mara hissed back with a mixture of fury and glee, biting and clawing back. It was a smallish animal, but it was fierce and left a good number of bleeding scratches on the little girl's face. But it couldn't fight forever. Not against a child whose parentage was partially wrath. Eventually Mara prevailed and she dragged the moaning creature back to her room.
"Kitty!" She crooned, holding it firmly in her arms as it twisted and turned in a desperate attempt to escape. Dipping a finger in the blue paint, she began to doodle awkwardly shaped letters on the poor thing. "Eee Eff Gee!" Mara admired her handiwork. The cat-thing hissed. She didn't even mind it's continued attempts at molestation. She understood biting and clawing. She figured the thing liked her.
"Mi! Miii!!" Mara called finally, shouting loudly for her guardian. "Mii! I practiced my Alpa-bits! Come see!"

.:Sisterly Love:.
Kaimi parked her bike in the backyard and opened the sliding door. The sound of wailing and shouting assaulted her ears and she reeled a little. Was everything okay? What was going on? "Naomi?" She called out, cautiously stepping into the living room. Kanunu streaked down the stairs, every hair on his body standing up straight and vaulted into the relative safety of Kaimi's arms, chittering and grumbling.
"What..." Kaimi frowned. The shouts seemed to be coming from upstairs. "Naomi?" She called out again.
"Upstairs, sweetie! Come on up, please!" Naomi's voice was tinged with frustration and what was very likely apprehension.
Kaimi began climbing the stairs and as soon as she did Kanunu leapt from her arms and flew to the top of the bookshelf in the living room. He seemed to think it was the safest place from whatever was causing the noise upstairs.
The bathroom door was cracked open and with a cautious little poke Kaimi pushed the door open a little wider. Her guardian was kneeling on the floor by the bathtub with her sleeves rolled up. The source of the howling appeared to be a very small blond girl with unfortunate looking fangs and wings settled on her head. Kaimi knew at least one other person with such wings, though Bishop was much nicer than this small person seemed to be.
The blond girl in the tub did not appear to want to be there. And by the volume of water on the floor and soaking Naomi's clothes, it looked like she had made her desires perfectly clear.
"Mom?" Kaimi ventured. She didn't call her guardian 'mom' very often. But the situation was terribly confusing. "What's going on?"
"Oh, Kaimi, thank god. Here, hand me that towel."
Kaimi did so obediently and watched as Naomi wrestled the kid out of the tub and wrapped her so tightly in the towel that the little girl seemed unable to move. Poisonous green eyes glared at Naomi and at Kaimi as well.
"Kaimi. This is Mara. Mara, this is Kaimi."
"WHAT is going on?" Kaimi asked again. Knowing the little monster's name didn't explain her presence.
"I got a letter. Compelling me to adopt her. Kaimi, Mara is going to live with us from now on. She's your new sister."
"Sister?" Weren't sisters supposed to be cool? This Mara character looked like she wanted to take an axe to everyone else in the room.
"Mara, you be nice now." Naomi muttered as the little bundle struggled violently. But Mara was just trying to reach out to Kaimi. "Here." Naomi said, handing the toddler off.
Kaimi, being a smallish girl, struggled to find a comfortable way to hold Mara. "Hi." She said, a bit bewildered. "So you're my sister, huh?"
Mara grinned, a rather menacing looking sight given her nasty fangs. "Sister! Ka!" And, having accepted her as a family member and given her a nickname that was easy to pronounce, Mara decided to seal the deal by biting Kaimi hard on the shoulder.

.:Maturing. Sort of. :.
"Vrooom! Vrooomvrooom!" Mara drove her toy cars cheerfully along the backyard porch. She was bundled up in a coat and scarf and snowpants and mittens. The little cars made little tracks in the snow, nonsense squiggles. Kaimi didn't like the snow, but Mara did! She especially liked making snowballs and throwing them at the school-aged children when they walked home from their bus stop.
From inside, Naomi kept an eye on the girl as she chopped veggies for the giant pot of vegetarian chilli she was preparing. It was huge, it would feed the three of them for several days and she could freeze any leftovers for later. Naomi was a practical woman, she liked to have food prepared for a lazy day and she didn't believe in eating out.
Life was a funny ol' thing, Naomi mused to herself as she watched Mara skulk around, trying to catch the neighbor's cat. The little girl had come a long, long way. She no longer blindly attacked everyone she came in contact with, as much as she probably wanted to. She was even using silverware and sometimes remembering to say please and thank you.
The small girl who Naomi had seen as such a trial was proving to be a real joy. Sure, she thrived on chaos and the house was never quiet anymore. But she was definitely a part of the family.
"Mom! I'm home!" Naomi turned and smiled as Kaimi clambered into the house, dropping her backpack on the floor and knocking the snow off her boots. Still in her winter gear (Which Naomi thought she wore more of than was necessary) her older daughter came into the kitchen. "Mmmm... that smells so good! Wheres Mara?"
"She's out playing in the yard. Maybe you could go show her how to build a snowman?"
Kaimi balked a little bit. She wasn't big on this weather. In fact, the sunshine loving child was more or less miserable in the wintertime. But then she took a deep breath and smiled. "Sure. Sure!" She repeated herself. "Why not?" It wasn't like there was much else to do. And Mara was rubbing off on Kaimi too, now that they'd gotten past the worst of the physical assaults.
Naomi watched through the window as Kaimi made her way into the back yard, being bombarded with snowballs. She watched the two girls talk and then Kaimi started showing Mara how to roll a huge snow-man base. Yes, this little mismatched family was really coming together. The woman's heart twinged briefly as she remembered her own family growing up. Then she shook it off and turned back to the chilli. Mara had mentioned wanting a puppy. Kaimi had two pets, it would be fair for the little girl to have a dog to romp with. It might be good for her. Yes... a puppy might be kind of fun.

.:Merry Christmas!:.
The tree glimmered softly in the dark, lightless morning. It was too early for the sun to be up, after all. Two sets of slippered feet crept down the stairs. Two fluffy robes, one blue with pictures of cups of cocoa and marshmallows and one purple with yellow ducks on it trailed down the stairs. Outside, a light snow fell in fat, indolent flakes. Two girls, one dark and exotic, one petite and blonde, snuck into the living room as silently as possible.
"Santa camed!" Mara whispered loudly, grinning broadly at her sister. There was an expanse of presents under the tree, ribbons and bows glistening.
"Shh!" Kaimi hissed, though she was grinning hugely. "Lets see whats in our stockings! Naomi wont mind if we look in our stockings before she wakes up."
The girls had been strictly forbidden to wake Naomi before six. They had managed to wait until about five-thirty before excitement drove them downstairs. Two brand-new stockings hung on the mantel. They'd been a gift from grandma, a woman the girls still hadn't met. But they were beautiful, hand-embroidered. Kaimi's had a manger scene with calm looking donkeys and sheep. Mara's had an angel, hands outspread in a benediction. Both were bulging with goodies. Carefully, Kaimi took the stockings down from the mantle and the two girls sat in front of the tree.
Toothbrushes, oranges with cloves stuck in them, candies... Mara got a couple of small toy cars and a tiny water-gun. Kaimi got unusually colored nail-polish and body wash that smelled like coconuts. The two girls were giggling under their breath, running the little toy cars around on the floor (though Mara was inclined to try and crash them) when they heard footsteps on the stairs.
Naomi joined her two daughters, smiling. She hadn't been able to sleep either. It had been years and years since she'd been excited about christmas. After Holly had dissapeared, so had christmas. None of them had the motivation or spirit to give gifts. They had all been plunged into mourning. But this year, she had two little girls all her own and it was their first christmas together! She couldn't help but be excited by it. She remembered, a little painfully, the joy and excitement she'd felt as a child. The jolt in the stomach when you looked at the empty cookie plate, proof positive that Santa had stopped by. "Merry christmas, girls." She said, smiling. "Are you ready to open your presents?"
"Yes!" "Yes!"
Came the replies. The rest of the morning was a blur of wrapping paper, homemade cinnamon rolls, laughter and intrumental carols playing in the background. Kaimi had squealed over new tassles and a bell for her bicycle and had recieved a set of zils and a huge silk scarf spangled with gold for her dancing. Mara had gotten a teddy bear and lots of new clothes. She seemed pleased, but there was something a little subdued as the last gift was given and the tree lay empty.
"I think theres one more thing we're missing here..." Naomi said, winking at her oldest daughter.
"Oh! Yes!" Kaimi exclaimed. "I definitely think something is missing here." She got to her feet and left the room, a skip in her step. Mara frowned as she watched her sister dissapear. She regarded Naomi suspiciously too. She didn't like it when people winked... it always meant she was being left out of something. Soon, though, Kaimi was back with a long rope.
"Here, Mara!" Kaimi grinned, giving her sister the rope that stretched all the way out of the living room in the direction of the kitchen. "Give it a nice little tug. Be gentle, now!"
The spawn took the rope and pulled on it. There was a bit of resistance, so she pulled a little harder. Then, all of the sudden, the rope gave and a small ball of fur burst into the room, barrelling straight to Mara and leaping on the little girl.
"Puppy!" Mara shrieked joyfully around the licking tongue. "Puppy! Really?"
"Really." Naomi said. "Since you really wanted one so much. You'll have to take good care of her, you know."
"I helped pick her out!" Kaimi was quick to add. She'd been the one to choose the furball that had the brightest eyes and the sharpest teeth. The one that seemed the most full of mischief, thinking it would be a good fit for her little sister.
"What are you going to call her, Mara?" Naomi asked with a smile.
"Gift." Mara beamed as the puppy chewed on her fingers. She could always chew back later. "Her name is Gift."

.:Lost:.
Gift had gotten out of the yard. Mara wasn't sure how it had happened, one minute they'd been wrestling, and then she'd gotten distracted by trying to see if she could dent a metal trashcan with her knee and when she'd turned around... Gift was gone.
"Giiift!" The little spawn shouted, peering over the fence. The puppy was nowhere to be seen. Mara knew she wasn't supposed to leave the yard, and the gate was baby-proofed anyways so that she couldn't open it. But Gift was gone! It would be okay if Kaimi or Naomi dissapeared. They could always come back. But Gift was HERS. Mara's responsibility. Her sister had three pets all of her own, and Mara just had Gift. Who was, in her opinion, way better than the little puffballs Kaimi kept around, or that snooty gryphkit who fled in terror when he heard the little spawn's footsteps.
There was really nothing else to do. She couldn't go through the gate, so she'd simply have to go over the fence and find her puppy. Her dress tore on the way over and she scraped her elbow when she landed. That was a good start, at least. Usually she had to make a concerted effort to ruin her clothes. This adventure promised to do it for her. "Giiiiift!" Mara shouted again, looking both ways down the sleepy residential street. Which way had her dog gone?
Arbitrarily, she turned right and made her way down the sidewalk, calling for the dog. Once in awhile a car drove by, splashing muddy half-melted snow on Mara. Which really only made the excursion more fun, the girl mused as she trudged along. She'd be really and truly filthy when she got home. "GIIIIFT!" Mara yelled again. Where was that dog? She was starting to get angry. Dogs were supposed to come when they were called. She turned left onto a random street where she'd never been before.
"GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFT! C'mere right now!"
She didn't hear the footsteps behind her, she was too preoccupied with finding her dog and getting as dirty as she could in the process. She was also preoccupied with her building fury that Gift wouldn't come when she was called.
"Does this belong to you?" Asked a smooth male voice, like knives dipped in honey. Mara turned. The man was wearing a hood and a cloak, and he was holding her puppy.
"Give!" Mara demanded, stretching her arms out.
"Tsk tsk, little girl. Don't you know who I am?"
Mara glared at him. What did it matter who he was? He had her puppy and she wanted it back. NOW. "Dun' care." She muttered, her eyes gleaming ferally. He clearly didn't know who she was, either.
"My name is Leeward, sweetie. I'm your uncle."
Leeward. That name rung a bell. Hadn't that been the name of the man who had tried to break into their house while Kaimi was babysitting? He'd scared the s**t out of her sister, that was for sure. Mara eyed the tall man. He didn't look that scary to her. "Give." She said again, imperiously.
"Why don't you let me walk you home, sweetie? The puppy is awful heavy. I'll carry her for you. I need to talk to your mama anyways."
Mara snarled. "M'a big girl." She said angrily. "Dun need a walk. Just gimme Gift."
Leeward's eyes narrowed. "Thats not very polite, young..."
But that was as far as he got. Mara dashed forward and sank her teeth deeply into the man's thigh. The feeling of cloth tearing, of fangs sliding effortlessly through skin was heady enough to make her almost woozy. She'd been such a good girl lately, and hadn't really bitten or kicked or scratched anyone. She'd forgotten how nice it was to have a live target.
Leeward, though not really hurt, was startled enough to drop the puppy. Mara hesitated for the briefest second before deciding that a drawn out fight with him really wasn't worth it. He'd win for sure. Instead, she snatched up her pet and started running back toward her house. Kaimi might be afraid of him, but Mara wasn't. He was just a stupid old man who didn't even have to good sense to bleed when someone bit him. Next time he came to the house and tried to break in she'd show him a thing or two, that was for sure.
For his part, Leeward stared down the street at the fleeing spawn, a faint amused smile tugging at his lips as the flesh on his leg knit back together from where her teeth had punctured it. She was a mighty hellion, that was for sure. He hoped she was making Naomi's life miserable. He hoped she was enough to distract her guardian for awhile longer. He came to the conclusion that she probably was up to the task.

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:
Letter Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following: Guardians Name: Child's Name: Sin: Virtue: Gender: Current Attitude: Likes: Dislikes: Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars ) Current hair style: Current clothing preferences: Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue) Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them? As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs. Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc. Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up. Thank you.
You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.
(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)

.:Growth Spurt:.
It was not a typical morning. Instead of the isidious aroma of coffee from the automatic coffee maker wafting temptingly upstairs to wake the household, the sound of suprised and maybe evel alarmed shouting coming from Mara's room jarred Naomi and Kaimi awake. Kaimi was the first to make it to her sister's room and jerked the door open uninvited, a question dying abruptly on her lips. Naomi wasn't far behind and she peered into the room over Kaimi's head.
"WHAT HAPPENED?!" Mara shrieked, standing in front of her full-length closet mirror which was now cracked near the top where it was clear something had been thrown at it. "MY CLOTHES DONT FIT!" She added in an earsplitting screech. Her dog, Gift, used to this kind of random behaviour continued to sleep peacefully on the bed.
"Oh, honey..." Naomi slid past Kaimi and into the room, taking Mara in her arms in what was meant to be a comforting gesture. Mara, however, was having none of it. She jerked roughly away from Naomi and glared at her guardian, her sister, her dog... it was as if the whole world had betrayed her. "Honey, you just grew up a little bit in the night." Naomi struggled to explain. "It happened to Kaimi, too, you know."
From the safety of the hallway, Kaimi nodded seriously. "Yep! I just woke up bigger one day!" The dark haired girl said. Mara was taller and had a different kind of figure, but Kaimi was not the sort to be jealous of what appeared to be a very early bloomer.
For her part, Mara merely scowled at all of them. "I dont like it." She said stubbornly, crossing her arms and looking like she was getting ready to settle into a nice long sulk.
"Well," began Naomi, who was now practiced at dealing with Mara and not inclined to walk on eggshells when it came to her youngest. "Thats too bad, because you can't go back. We'll have to go shopping, you know. For clothes. You can pick out the ones you like..." She added, temptingly.
"I can?" Mara's scowl transformed to an interested expression. She'd never got to pick out her own clothes, that might be fun! "Okay." She added in what could almost, to someone who didn't know the little spawn, be mistaken for obedience. "I guess it's okay if I get to pick out my own clothes."
***
As the little family of three wandered the mall, Naomi began to wonder just what she'd gotten herself into. Kaimi barely wore any clothes, it was true. Tiny skirts and tube-tops and yet the way she dressed didn't seem provocative. At least not yet. It seemed impossible for the dark haired tropical girl to even be provocative, she was just so sweet and innocent. But Mara, on the other hand...
"I like this one too." Said the spawn, holding up a collar with bit spikes on it. "Isn't it cool?" She was, admittedly, on her best behavior. That being said, her tastes were... well...
"Honey, you already picked out a collar necklace. Why not something" More girly? More age-appropriate? Less spiky and dangerous looking? Naomi discarded all of these answers as tantrum inducers. "The spikes are too long, Mara. You'll poke your eye out." Or someone else's eye, more likely. "If you want something like that, get one with the little nubs. It's just as..." Naomi searched for the word. "Cool."
For once, the little spawn agreed and selected another collar necklace before turning to a rack of pleated red and black plaid skirts. The schoolgirl kind you'd see in a porno that had chains and big black buckles on them to make them more fashionable. She selected a few off the rack and grabbed a couple t-shirts as well. This shopping and picking out clothes thing was fun!
Naomi sighed. "Mara, don't forget our rule about skirts." She'd had to make a rule about skirts. It pained her that the subject would even come up. Mara, in her new growth, was provocative enough as it is. "They have to touch the floor when you kneel down."
"I know, mom." Mara answered irritably.
"And no tube tops."
"Kaimi wears tube tops!"
It was true, but still. "Mara, just bear with me. No tube tops. Tank tops are okay, though you'll freeze your butt off in this weather."
The girl grinned her sweetly malicious fanged grin at her mother. "'Kay, Mi." She said obediently. Mara was learning. If you wanted to get your way with a grownup, you acted nice and good. She slipped into the dressing room to try on this new bundle of clothes. The growth thing wasn't all that bad, now that she'd gotten the hang of it.

. razz art Two:. (reference Kaimi's journal for more of the story)The house looked as if it had been ransacked, though a lot of that was Mara's doing. Naomi had arrived home from work as usual, expecting her girls to be snacking or watching television or bickering as they so often did. Instead, she found all the doors open, papers and books strewn everywhere, furniture overturned... it was a nightmare. And standing in the middle of it was a fuming, crying Mara. A chill went straight through Naomi's bones. Mara simply didn't cry. There was something very, very wrong here. "Mara! Whats wrong? What on earth happened? Wheres Kaimi?" Kaimi was supposed to have been babysitting. "Ka!" Mara wailed, running to Naomi and clinging to her. "She's g-gone!" "Gone?" Everything went cold. "Gone where?" "H-he took her!" Mara gulped. "The ba-bad man took her!" "What man?" Panic was racing inside of the women as she struggled to keep herself calm. She didn't really need to ask who it had been that had taken her daughter. She already knew. "L-L-Leeward!" Mara wailed, hiccuping. Naomi gritted her teeth. Leeward had finally made his move. She simply didn't understand it, she'd left the trail for her sister cold. She hadn't been doing anything that obviously constituted searching. Why had he stolen her daughter? Fear and anger washed over the woman. She didn't know if he'd come back for Mara or not, but she wasn't willing to risk it. Someone had to stay at the house, though, in case by some miracle Kaimi returned. "Come on, darling." Even though she was much bigger and rather spiny, Naomi lifted Mara into her arms and carried her into the kitchen where she proceeded to warm some milk in an attempt to find the girl. "Where did you get all these scratches?" "I t-tried to stop him, Mi. I really did, but he was stronger and his teeth were sharper than mine." Mara gulped for air, anxiety and fear making it hard for her to breath. "Kaimi had fainted and the other girl w-was j-just standing there. And he pi-picked up K-Kaimi and then I tried to get her b-back. B-but he was t-too strong!" "Oh, darling, it's okay. You tried very hard to protect your sister, though it was a dangerous thing to do." Naomi paused, then. "What other girl?" "K-Kaimi had a friend over." Mara took the warmed milk and sipped, starting to calm now that Naomi was home and she wasn't all alone and frightened anymore. Now, anger was starting to boil slowly under the little spawn's skin. Not the quick, fiery burst of passion that she was accustomed to, but a slow simmering fury that would last and last and last until justice was served. "Who was this friend?" Naomi asked, brow wrinkling. But Mara only shook her head. She didn't know. "Alright, sweetie. You just stay here, I'm going to make a few phone calls, okay? Then we're going to pack a little bag and you're going to go and visit a friend of mommy's for a couple of days while the police look for Kaimi." "I wanna stay with YOOOU!" Mara wailed, starting up again. "I know, darling. But it may not be safe. I promise you, it will only be a few days. You can go stay with Granny and Pop-Pop. You'll like them very much, I'm sure. And your grandma has been wanting very much to meet you. You'll even get to go to earth!" "E-earth?" It was a small consolation, but it was enough to quiet Mara. "Okay, Mi." She said in an uncharacteristically subdued voice. Five minutes later, Mara was asleep on the couch and Naomi was frantically calling everyone she could think of to see if anyone had seen Kaimi. She knew that nobody would have, but still. She had to try.

.:Home again:.
Mara hitched her duffel bag over her shoulder and stared at her house as the taxi sped off. Life had been... eventful, lately. Very very eventful. Like the fact that she had grown, although that was kind of old news by now. But there was the fact that her sister had gotten kidnapped. Mara had walked in on the scene just as that nasty vampire had grabbed Kaimi. She'd tried to fight him, but she was just a little girl and Leeward was so very, very big. And strong. The spawn growled low in her throat, remembering the way he'd effortlessly tossed her across the room and hadn't even seemed to notice the blows and bites she'd rained upon him. He'd taken Kaimi anyways and there was nothing Mara had been able to do. She hated that, not being able to take care of things. Especially with violence. She should have won that fight.
Naomi had sent Mara off to her grandparent's house on earth until Kaimi came back. Gran and Pop were... not what Mara had expected and spending time on their small farm had been both fun and infuriating. Jumping out of the hayloft, for example, had been fun despite the fact that there was no hay in the middle of winter. Chasing after the chickens had been fun, and it had been really fun when Gran had let her cut the head off of one! Except Mara had also had to learn how to pluck it and that had most definitely not been fun. It had been smelly and gross. There had been a lot of chores at Gran and Pop's house, and while Mara was not a very tidy person she liked the harder outside stuff. She'd rather help Pop with the animals than help Gran indoors. Inside stuff was boring. Who said all girls were good for was cooking?
"Mooom!" Mara bellowed, shoving the door open. "I'm Hooome!" She tossed her bag onto the couch and shuffled into the kitchen to see if there was anything good to eat.
"Mara! Love, I'm glad you're back!" Naomi gave her daughter a warm hug and was suprised at how politely it was returned. She should have sent Mara off to her parent's house sooner. They were good about instilling manners and whatnot.
"Kaimi's back, then?" Mara asked, digging around in the pantry and coming up with a bag of barbeque chips which she tore into enthusiastically.
"Yes." There was something quiet and a little sad about Naomi's voice. "Kaimi's back. She's out right now, but I'm sure she'll be happy to see you when she gets home."
"It was bad, wasn't it?" Mara asked, gnashing her teeth together. Oh, that filthy vampire would pay. She was strong, she could take kidnapping and s**t. But her sister was a more delicate sort. She wasn't cut out for torture.
"Yes, it seems that it was pretty bad for her."
Mara's eyes narrowed. Revenge. Yes... revenge was something sweet to be planned and savored. She'd spent a lot of her time on earth thinking up terrible things she could do to get back at her sister's kidnappers. Now she just had to organize her thoughts. Yes... she'd get them. And this time, she would kick his a**.
