"Chan? That is not my last name."

Pasayo seemed honestly confused as Fumei addressed her as 'Pasayo-chan', since it was a suffix she had never heard attached to her name. There had been other things closed in on it, like 'darling' or 'little' (as a prefix), so this was new, alien, and maybe even a bit frightening.

"Do not call me things that I do not know."

"I believe she is using a Japanese term of endearment, is that not correct? I am not that familiar with the Japanese language despite having my name be from that type."

Piero fluffed Pasayo's head at her little outburst, making the girl curl into him even more. He was frowning slightly, as he disapproved of the curt manner in which she had responded, but the frown slowly turned back into a smile. He could not stay upset for very long.

"As for spending a lot of time with this child here, I have to admit my younger brother is more of her caretaker than I am. I am often at my job and unable to be at her side like she needs, so Houkan fulfills that role for me without much complaint, to which I am very grateful."

Pasayo's face seemed to lighten up at the mention of Houkan's name, a small pink blush creeping across her dark cheeks. One could see her joy more or less from the expression in her eyes instead of the color of her skin, since they seemed to be sparkling with interest.

A most peculiar expression had cortorted the pretty Pasayo's face when Fumei had given her the endearment of -chan. Maybe she didn't like anime, or maybe she just hated fangirls. D: Fumei could understand that, but the expression that Pasayo wore seemed rather frightening on a girl her age.

Fumei continued to smile the smile she had always worn, observing the interesting exchange that had happened between Piero and Pasayo. Any parent or caretaker would give that stern look when their child had made a mistake. Of course Pasayo had made a mistake. Fumei meant no harm. But it sure was cute to wonder why Pasayo seemed so possessive of her name.

There must be some sort of special reason.

And with that look that Piero gave Pasayo, Fumei decided to no longer comment on the -chan anymore, and put up her hands, waving away anymore withcoming uncomfortableness she seemed to feel thereafter. "Ah, yeah, sorry about that Pasayo~ I didn't mean any offense. You're just so cute, and I miss being in Japan." She gave an apologetic, sheepish look to Piero, as if to apologize for any inconvenience he would have to suffer for Pasayo's other moods for later.

For now, it would be best to make amends, and learn what she could from this family for the sake of her own for later. "So it's pretty much being a parent again, ya hear that B'Elanna?" Fumei pat her egg, and felt it hum and vibrate in her arms. Whether that was in protest or not, time would tell.

But B'Elanna seemed to be turning her face (her rather, her circlet) to the blushing Pasayo. That in turn, turned Fumei ever so slightly to look back at Pasayo, and wondered whether to touch upon a girl's most secretive subject. (Blushing meant one thing: embarassment, fever, some skin ailment, or a matter of the heart. Girls were good at this stuff. Or probably invented the word 'blush.' Or probably were attuned to anything related on the subject and took the blush for a heart. Same difference, right?)

And with that, Fumei hoped the girl would uncurl out of Piero. She seemed so painfully withdrawn. "Hm, you okay Pasayo? Did the sun give you sunburn or somethin'?"

"Do not worry, she is fine. Pasayo has quite a fondness for my younger brother and tends to act this way whenever his name is mentioned."

Piero's voice held a teasing tone as he chuckled softly towards the little girl in his arms who looked flabbergasted at what he said about her feelings towards Houkan. At the stage those emotions were in now in certain was admiration and perhaps even a dependent type of love, but in the future one could be very uncertain.

"However when someone mentions my name is makes this little pouting face and puckers her lips-"

"I most certainly do not! Please do not smile when you are telling your lies, Master!"

Pasayo's little voice squeaked with indignation at Piero's little jokes, and the older man could not but actually laugh loudly this time. It drew the attention of what few people still remained with the group of four out on the street, but the older man did not seem to mind. they were close to where they needed to be anyway.

"You are confusing our company, please try not to do so..."

"Quite a 'fondness' huh?" Fumei grinned, giggling to herself as she pet her egg.

As Fumei let her face rest from the smiling, she could still feel a comfortable sort of happiness in her face as she followed Piero and Pasayo around. "Pasayo really is cute, Mr. Piero." Still, she wondered how far she could follow them without imposing. After all, Pasayo was sensitive to the light for some reason. "I mean, look at those cheeks, soooo *giggle* red! And *laugh* that face she makes *tee hee* when you tease her so, how could you be so cruel?" Fumei mock-teased Piero, having quite a struggle on trying not to laugh anymore at poor Pasayo's plight.

It was good to have a happy family every once in a while.

When her laughter fit was over, Fumei wiped away a tear and took a breath. "So~ that means Mr. Piero would be brother in law... hmm hmm! What do you think B'Elanna?"

Bzz bzz.

"She says Pasayo has good taste. And B'Elanna is a fan of good taste."

"Please do not mock me...."

Pasayo's complaint was weak as indeed her cheeks were growing redder by the moment, the color actually showing despite the darkened nature of her skin. Her eyes seemed to be watering too, be if from pain or embarrassment, and she rubbed away the droplets with the back of her right hand glove.

Piero seemed to frown as she cried softly, or at least did her best not to cry, and he used the tips of his own fingers to clear away what little tears the girl missed.

"Calm down little one, no need to fret. What we say is purely in jest, as we both know your feelings for my younger brother are what you feel they are. So no need for tears, alright?"

The older man stopped in front of a door as they were suddenly walking, having finally reached their destination. He pushed the door inward with his free hand and turned to look a Fumei, a smile on his face.

"Are you coming in as well? There may be something here that suits your taste."

"I can't help it, but you're so cute Pasayo. But I'll really try to stop teasing you now, I'm sorry." Fumei said as her giggles subsided, the egg in her arms still happily buzzing in merriment. Teasing other girls were so much more fun, especially shy ones like Pasayo. She seemed like a real sweetheart.

B'Elanna buzzed in Fumei's arms even more when Piero stopped to welcome them in. Excitement was an understatement for the dark red egg as its clouds seemed to expand and swirl at an increasing rate.

Fumei obediently followed Piero to their destination, smiling at Pasayo (or rather, at Piero's back to Pasayo) the entire way. "You handle Pasayo so well, and she seems like such a good child. I can only hope I can learn, and not only appreciate your good taste." Fumei said, nodding to Piero's question.

"See B'Elanna? We get to see something that may suit us! Thanks Mr. Piero!"

And in she stepped.

"It is more or less a balance of punishment and praise, the same way one would raise any child. I just happen to think that Pasayo is a very smart young girl who learns to imitate rather quickly and then catches on to what seems to be the best course of action."

The shop the set of four had entered as a vintage shop of sorts that carried Victorian era clothing - though obviously not ones made in that time. Instead they were all made from the current materials that fashion had allowed but in the manner and styles of the past, so in a way more or less a set fashion boutique. There were many different closets set full with full era outfits, down to the shoes and proper types of underwear, and to the back stood the rest of the fashion accessories one would need to dress properly.

The store even sold furniture, several large grandfather clocks and chairs testament to this. Almost as if summoned on cue a young man rounded the corner at the sound of the bell that had been tied above the door as a signal, and at the sight of everyone he smiled before ushering them inwards.

"Hello Scott, we are here today to buy a parasol. If you could kindly direct me to where I need to go I will make my way there, though this young woman may need some help."

Piero smiled at Fumei and motioned for her to speak up, should she have any questions.

"Oh... I see." Fumei said, somewhat deflated. "So it's like being a parent." She fiddled with B'Elanna's egg, before giggling at Pasayo. "So I can only hope it's just as nice as you, Pasayo."

B'Elanna hummed, although whether it was in protest or in sync with Fumei's giggles were another matter that could not be told. So when Fumei finally entered the shop, B'Elanna stopped humming, her clouds spinning in curiousity.

Fumei shared the same feelings, as she looked about the shop in wonder. It seemed so... so old. Well not OLD per se, but more like it was ancient, or an antique environment on its own. When Fumei looked to Piero, and then Pasayo's clothes, she smiled. "I see this shop matches your taste, Piero." She commented, looking at the shop full of non-digital clocks, chairs that did not share the modern 'shaped' chairs that decorated Gaia, nor the clothes that people seemed to wear nearly a century past. Or at least, Fumei thought, because she swears she's seen an outfit like that in her textbook in history class...

"Since you guys are looking for parasols... um... hmm..." Fumei frowned in thought. She didn't know what she would want or need. "...I don't know what I want or need just yet..."

B'Elanna vibrated and flapped her wings. Apparently, she liked this place.

"Take your time, there is no need to rush. I myself am not in a hurry to go anywhere and since I have a feeling that Pasayo and I will be in here until it grows dark out we are in no rush."

Piero set Pasayo down and allowed the child to totter on ahead of the pair, his own legs carrying him to a destination he probably knew well. This shop was liek a second home to him since he did indeed get almost everything he owned in terms of clothing and accessories from here, though one would wonder why he simply did not make a room in his house for all these items. It would be within the contract for him to do so, but seeing as Piero had some morals in his body he felt spending money on things was the way to go.

"Though if you do need anything at all Scott can help you with whatever it may be, and I am sure that something will come up to match your tastes. Young ladies like fancy things."

Fumei let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks. I feel pretty bad, taking up your time and all..." She pet B'Elanna's egg for comfort. An old vintage, antique shop wasn't exactly a place for a teenage girl. In fact, it was the last place Fumei thought she'd find herself in. However, when looking at Piero's sharp clothing and Pasayo's... fluffles... it seemed strangely fitting that they would be shopping for a parasol together.

But what would she get? Everything just seemed so out of place for a girl who used something modern. Not that retro or vintage was out.... it just wasn't the environment she was used to. "Well... alright. I hope I can... um... pay ya back for yer time an' all." She said, looking to Pasayo first and then Piero.

B'Elanna buzzed quietly, as if her silent hum would charge the fragile air with something dangerous. There must be something in here that she would want.

"Hmm..." Fumei looked around, and clutched the locket underneath her shirt. For when she did, she thought of him, and she grinned to Piero. "Would Pasayo have any suggestions for someone as oblivious as me-- oooooh...."

And midsentence, the teen stopped, looking at a jewelry box. Or at least, an ornately decorated box with small jewels nad sparkles that her fingers couldn't stop touching. "Ooooh, a jewelry box..."

B'Elanna buzzed violently.

"Oh, I mean a music box! But it's not playing anything.... hmmm...." With that the girl tried to fiddle with the lid, opening and closing it, and searching for a small wind up toy ... or something. MUST MAKE NEW DISCOVERY WORK. "Ah... I can't find how to make it work..."

For let's face it, teenage girls have the attention span of a fly when interested.

"I believe that music box needs a key in order to operate it. You will probably find it underneath the velvet cushion on the top, but let me give you a hand with it."

Piero had come up behind the girl as she was looking at the box and he reached over her shoulder, the motion light and very polite as he flipped up the cushion to reveal a small silver key.

"You place it into the slot on the back, near the bottom, and turn it twice. It should be able to properly play the music for you, as nothing sold here would ever be put onto the shelves if it did not work."

Meanwhile Pasayo had made a beeline for what she wanted and was digging it out, her tiny hands sorting through the parasols like an urchin through fresh trash.

"Oh..." Fumei laughed nervously, seeming a bit embarrassed about her obliviousness to such a simple thing. When Piero went over her shoulder like so, B'Elanna seemed to titter in her arms. Strange.

"Sweet!" The teenager exclaimed, trying to keep her excited egg in her arms. "I've always wanted a music box. And it's good to know you have good taste in stores with customer service too. Thanks so much Mr. Piero!"

The eggu seemed to sigh in contentment with Piero's close quarters encounter.

The teenager seemed even more oblivious to the egg's reaction, grinning and hugging the new music box that would be hers. She turned, before watching Pasayo look through parasols. "She seems to know what she wants. Haha, I wonder what she'll be like when she grows up." Fumei wondered, knowing the ways of shopping was very telling of what a girl was like. Most of the time.

"Ah, well it's getting rather late and I've taken up enough of your time. Perhaps we can do this again?"

The eggu in her arms seemed to buzz violently. "Whoa whoa, B'Elanna, don't worry.."

"You are more than welcome to it, consider it a thank you gift from me."

Piero smiled at the young girl and the egg in her arms, thinking of them as quite charming. While Fumei may have been bouncy and loud it was a little reassuring and reminded him often of times spent with his cousin before she had gone off the deep end (his words, not her actions). It made him wonder how Rown was doing and perhaps he would call her later, but for now he would enjoy his time with Fumei and this young B'Elanna.

"And for you Pasayo, did you find what you wanted to use?"

He turned his head and called to the child who had stopped rifling through items long enough to find a pure white parasol with lace and small charms about the ends. It was frilly and matched her small figure perfectly, and as she opened and closed it with delight a happy grin streaked across her lips.

"That settles it then. Shall we proceed to paying, Ms. Fumei?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 11, 2008 11:14 pm

With a look little more than a shocked stare, Fumei shook her head. "Mr. Piero! That's too much! It's very kind of you, but I don't think we could accept such a gift!"

While not exactly the most polished gem, Fumei knew better than to take advantage of kindness. Besides, Mr. Piero and Pasayo were such good people, she'd hate to impose on them. Especially after finding a new store to explore.

The egg in her arms seemed to have a different idea. More and more the egg vibrated.

But Fumei would not translate such lines. "Aah..." Fumei gave a nervous laugh before patting her egg. "Hmm... unless you don't mind buying a new friend a new music box so she can work off such a debt in a way that can be appreciated? Perhaps I can get Pasayo a new gift next time?" She said, indicating the cute child with a new grin on her face.

The egg seemed to calm down.

"...Well, B'Elanna really seems to not let you pay, let me pay, and let her have it as a gift from you, Piero."

And the egg gave protest once more.

"Ah, if you see it that way then by all means please consider it a gift from me to you in celebration instead of thanks. As a way of making a fond memory of our meeting today and a chance for meetings in the future. Does that sound better?"

Piero was going to get that music box for her regardless of how she wanted to see it being presented, mostly because he did not want Pasayo to think she was being spoiled by getting a new parasol while their guest received nothing but idle chatter. He did not want her growing up thinking such actions were acceptable in society.

"I will go ahead and pay now if you would like to look around here much longer, but know that the music box is now yours whether you take it or not."

The older man smiled as he handed the youth named Scott a small wad of bills, their amount exact for the cost of the parasol and the box, and he motioned for the change to be kept as either a tip or a store credit for his next purchase. He shopped here often enough anyway that such an action no longer caused much of a reaction.

"We must be going, but I do hope to see you again sometime once your child has hatched. I would like to see how lovely she will turn out and am interested to see how much you two will interact with one another."

And with that Pasayo scampered over to Piero's side and up into his arms, the parasol cradled in her arms like a treasured child, and the pair bowed their heads together before exiting the building.
