I have a question - how challenged do you want to be? You're a very good writer and plotter and it sounds like sci-fi is something you're comfortable with; do you want to continue inside of your comfort zone, or would you be more interested moving outside of it?
I think something ninja-esque or historical might be interesting and challenging, especially with a satirical bent. I'd imagine once you got into the swing of things you'd have an excellent satirical wit that could be carried through an entire story.

You should reference the current story in your next one xp Open the new story up with the final paragraph or so, and then have it be a passage from a book or something.
I voted sci-fi, tho' certain fantasy elements would be nice. Or vice versa, a fantasy placed in a sci-fi setting.

Bigger, less mobile, less versatile 'Mechs, a larger and more fleshed-out universe, and better physics. Although, to be fair, I wasn't counting the SDF-1 as a combat mechanoid, and it's hard to flesh out a universe when most of the human race has been wiped out. Superheroes gives you a lot of room to play around in. Go for it.
