Take it, we don't want it!
A message for you, sir!
A message for you, sir!

It had been a sunny day when the letter from Lab came. An unexpected letter proclaiming that she had the ’honor’ to receive a child of unusual caliber to raise and care for. Riulve on that day had been dubious about the ’honor’ part. She already had a son and after this odd letter Riulve had begun to feel like a woman marked by the devil, fates, or other forces she could not see and it was becoming rather annoying. Still she had resolved to go and see what this was about and had arranged for her son, Mana, to be left with the elderly neighbor who usually watched the boy.
With everything arranged all that remained was that the next day the boy was to be dropped off and then Riulve made her way to the establishment. This day, oddly enough, was different from the other one. It was cloudy and occasionally the sky would open to spit upon the world below it, or at least that was how Riulve viewed this weather behavior. The sky opened up just to spit upon her in mockery.
The tall woman knew how this day would end, because she could not say ‘no’ to a child once she sees them and they are offered to her. She would come home with the child no matter how much she would try to get out of it. It would be somehow forced upon her and she would take the child because she was soft. Soft like a large puffy marshmallow. At least where children were concerned. Deep inside she had nurtured the seed that was reserved the desire for motherhood, to have children of her own blood. A child she won’t be able to have unless she figured out how to asexually reproduce or find herself a mate (for a night or for life).
Upon coming to the entrance of the establishment that had sent her the letter she let out a gust of breath before placing her hand against the door only to have someone yank it open from under her hand and to her amazement and the lab-tech’s shock there was someone standing there. The lab-tech was trying to go out and about his business and had not foreseen to see a woman of Amazonian proportions to be standing at the threshold of the Labs.
“M..May I help you Miss…” The lab-tech quickly took a step back as the tall woman made her way in. He was startled by the icy stare she had greeted him with.
“Riulve Drunhild. I am here for the child.” She had done whatever hoopla they had forced her to do to get to this point, she was in no mood for fussing about.
“Oh! We weren’t expecting you so soon. Let me go check on the subject’s status.” His plans forgotten the lab technician disappeared from sight and into the inner workings of the building. While Riulve moved off to sit in one of the chairs in the lobby.
It didn’t take long until a soft sniffling was heard and the click of talon-nails against the floor echoed through out the room followed by the decisive tap of clean hard soled work shoes right after it. Riulve looked over at the sounds only to see a oddly shaped child with tears pouring down her chubby little cheeks that had a tail dragging against the ground.
“I..I…I DON’T WANT TO GO SHE LOOKS SCARY.” The child wailed and began a fresh wave of sobs.
The lab technician sighed softly, this one was different from the one that had greeted her at the door, it was female. “Girlie, we all have to do whatever we don’t want. I am sure she is nice…” The tech looked up toward Riulve and a brief second a look of certainty passed over the other female’s face before she turned her attention to the child again. “Well, I don’t think she’ll hurt you in any case.”
Riulve wasn’t sure if she should be amused or insulted, either way she stood up and approached them. “If the girl does not wish to go -- She is a girl right? -- Then don’t make her.”
The girl sniffled a bit looking wide eyed at being given the option to stay. Perhaps the lady wasn’t that scary.
The lab technician sighed loudly as she looked back up at the tall woman. “We do not the capability to care for her here the way she needs to be cared for. Plus if we kept all the children we would be overrun…”
Riulve’s eyebrow shot up at that, “What kind of place do you run here?”
“You do not need to know.” The tech said briskly suddenly becoming cold, “Now take the child and be on your way.” Somehow the tall outlandish woman had pricked the female technician’s carefully set up professional wall. She just wanted to be rid of the brat and get back to work.
Now it was Riulve’s turn to bristle, “I think I do just in case something goes wrong.”
The girl sniffed a bit and began to move toward the tall woman out of her own curiosity. The small girl seemed to now become shyly fascinated with the large woman.
“Then you will call us and we will come see you or you bring her here. Beyond that we just need you to act as her guardian.” The woman turned and stormed off dark faced. The child was no longer clinging to her. She paused a moment to add, “Someone will be up to give you some paperwork to sign.”
Riulve was about to retort when she felt a small hand grasp her pinky finger which made her look down only to gaze down at the pale eyes of the small teary eyed child. The tall woman softened a bit and sighed. Somehow she would have to make room for the girl and think of a name for her for certainly none was mentioned in the letter or otherwise.
Soon the technician from earlier popped up with a wide smile, “Congratulations! What you gonna name her?”
The white haired woman looked up and sighed a bit, “I don’t know yet, just hand me the forms and stuff I need to fill.”
The technician continued to smile while he handed over the forms and gave the girl a pat on the head before turning to walk of, “Just leave it at the desk. One of the secretaries will get to it when they are off of break.” and with that they were left alone.
Riulve, with the girl still hanging onto her pinky, went to the chairs and sat down again. The girl stood in front of the woman not wanting to sit apart from her. Riulve sighed and lifted the girl onto her lap and positioned her so she could still write on the sheets.
She filled all of the required fields except for one. Riulve had saved it for last:
‘Name of Child: Wynnifred Majorie Drunhild’
The small girl peered at the unfamiliar characters that filled the page. More the once she had tried to help, “What’s that mean?” she asked in a soft voice.
“Your name, you are Wynnifred Majorie Drunhild.” Riulve said with an amazing amount of patience as she clipped the pen back onto the clipboard.
“My name sounds long…” There was a pause for a moment, “I like it! I bet my name is longer than the other kids’ names.” A small ounce of pride filled the girl’s voice.
Riulve laughed a bit and nodded, “Possibly. Though I think I’ll just call you Wynni.”
“Kay! Can we go to my new home now?”
“Yeah, let me just drop this off…”
The form dropped off the pair went home, toward the end of the journey Riulve ended up having to carry the odd hybrid child in her arms the rest of the way...
