I’m using both prompts~
Name of foal: n/a

The blue eyes sparkled seeing the mud. Oh, what glorious mud it was too! The young foal had been feeling a little sad lately having heard the news of its parents separating. Its two siblings were going to go with their mother. She had her good points like everyone, but this foal, this foal wanted freedom. Freedom, like right now to go and run into that mud and roll around and have fun. The father was so busy with himself that it’d get to do a lot more, and experience a lot more then their would with its mother, who might end up being over protective. Her ears twitched and eyed the mud again and slowly slunk away from the group.

From the corner of its blue eye, it saw one of its siblings looking at her. She smirked some, to the others dismay; jaw dropping. She trotted up the little side path, her hooves sliding into the mud. Oh what a feeling this was. Cool and smooth… So luxurious. While doing this another though popped into her head. Her father only liked clean… But she loved exploring, and had no issue getting dirty. Her tail swished behind her as she moved further into the mud. Wasn’t a hopeless task, if she went with her father, she knew how to bath. It was just controlling the impulses like this that was the problem. She moved further in. Her wings folded in against her dark color striped body.

Her mother caught the jaw dropped look of one of her babies, and followed the gaze over to the muddy foal, as she rolled around in the mud, and played happily. She shook her head, not really wanting to Dorian to see. They haven’t been getting along to well and already two of their foals have picked her. ‘lani was hopeful that he would change his mind after spending time with them… Though the foal in the mud…

Dorian was oblivious to the happening around him. He was too busy trying to keep himself from getting dirty to even notice. But soon his ears twitched to the sound of trotting from behind. He didn’t bother to look, but soon his facial expression showed a look of horror.

The young undecided foal grinned at her parents and she shook off, the mud on her body flying off and splattering everyone. “I want to live with Daddy!”

Foal Prompt
It was another one of those afternoon get-togethers with the family. Your siblings were off romping around ahead of the parents, and you...were idly looking at a barely noticeable trail heading the opposite direction that everyone else was going. It had just rained, so the trail looked very muddy, but...still, it was enticing. Looking forward, you see that 'Lani and Dorian are completely engrossed in other things, so the chance at exploring is definitely there!

What would do you do? Do you brave the dirty and the unknown, or do you stick by the safety of your parents? If you went, how would you deal with being covered in mud and potentially ruining a perfect hair-do? Dorian is QUITE the stickler when it comes to physical beauty and cleanliness - would you avoid your father?

She glanced back to her parents for one split second and then bounded on towards the muddy unknown path, giggling at the fact that she slipped away from their watchful eye. Sometimes you can only learn when you're on your own. She bounded and leaped along the path, trying her best to avoid the worse of the mud, but causing it to splash and spray everywhere!

Her ear flicked at the croaking sound of a frog that jumped in front of her. She tilted her head unsure of what it was, as she'd never seen a frog before. Slowly, she lowered her head to try and sniff if, but it jumped away! She laughed again and sprung after it. There was no way she'd have seen something like this if she'd stuck by her parents' side.

Finally, she heard the frantic calls of her mother. She glanced back the way she had come, completely forgetting about the strange creature that moved on out of sight.
"Comin' mama!" She sighed heavily and made her way back.

She trotted over to her parents, completely unaware of how caked she was in the mud.
"Guess what I saw?! I saw this weird green thing that jumped really far and made this weird sound. I chased after it, but--"

She was cut off by her father, Dorian. "And got yourself covered in dirt," he stated at the appearance of her. When she moved to go nuzzle against his leg, he took a few careful steps back to avoid getting on him.

"That was a frog and you need a bath," said her mother. She made a face in complaint. Baths. Yuck. She looked up at her father and batted her eyes as innocently as possible. "I didn't mean to get dirty. I tried really hard," she said with a pretty pout.

"Oh Dorian," her mother said with a giggle. "It'll wash off. Right sweety?" She beamed brilliantly up at her mother with a nod. "Then we'd better get to it." She whined loudly when she felt a n** on her rump and scurried on ahead.

OTHER Foal Prompt
Your father and your mother decide its within your best interest to part and go their separate ways. Your two siblings have chosen to go with your nurturing mother, and now it is your turn to decide whether to join your mother and siblings or tag along with your self-absorbed father. What choice do you make and why? Please RP out the child's response to the scenario~

Tears started to form in his eyes but didn't fall. After all, boys didn't cry. But his brilliant blue eyes sparkled even more at the words his parents were explaining to him. They were splitting up and didn't understand why. And even worse, he might be separated from his siblings! He stomped his little hoof in frustration.

No, no. They were giving him a choice. Stay with mom or go with dad. How was this in their best interest? How was breaking the family apart for the better?

He glanced between his parents and then at his two siblings. He moved closer to them. His siblings and mother were all he knew ever since he was in the basket. He looked up at his dad, Dorian.
"I'm gonna stay with mom."

Again those tears tried to leak out but he remained as strong as he could in the face of his father. And he watched as his father turned his back to them and started to walk away from the family he helped create.

Prompt 2
Colt
Domonique

Domonique was nestled in his little nest of grasses and leaves snoozing quite peacfully. He had his legs tucked daintily beneath himself and his neck elegently curled around himself so his head rested near his haunches. As he slept lightly he felt the sun on his back and heard the birds, the trees, and the wind. He thought it was all glorious. Just like himself. He sighed in his sleep as he dreamed of non sense and such things. He'd never tell he loved the fairy tales he heard from his mother, though he curled his lip at them. But his dreams were interupted by his siblings.

"Come on Domino! It's time to leave," his sister called as she bounded over, followed closley by his other sister, who was shouting the same thing. His youngest sister always copied the older. He opened on eye and then closed it again, ears going back in annoyance. He enjoyed his solitude. He'd rather be alone than with even his own family. He pretended to ignore them until they began to dance around him singing, "W're going with mommy, so are you." Dominique lifted his head and said flatly, "Who says I'm going with mommy, Rachelle?"

The younger filly stopped and beamed. "Papa said so!" And the youngest followed suit with, "yeah, papa said!" Dominique stood and huffed. He adored his mother. She was kind and nuturing. She was beautiful and humble. She was all a mother should be. his father however failed at parent hood. Dominique bargined he'd sell out his own children to keep someone from throwing mud at him. He sighed to himself, mommy it was then. He stood and stretched his neck, followed by a slight shakeing out of his legs one by one. His sisters danced around him and he smiled. he'd rather be alone, yes, but their childish rampaging had a soothing quality for him.

Dominique let the two fillies dance around him until he got to his parents. Thier mother had that serene smile and his father looked... well... for lack of a better term; bored. These were his children for god sake. Domonique felt irritation bubbling up inside him again. "Come along dear," his mother said with a hint of sadness in her vioce. Domonique would make his father pay for making his mother sad. But how. He was just a foal. And it hit him.

"Actually, I think I'll go with father. Mother, you'll have you hooves full with these two firecrackers. I'll go with father." He looked up at Dorion who look posotivly offended. "Well, let's go... papa." Dorian turned adn muttered, "don't call me that." Domonique said as he nuzzled his mother and sister goodbye, "what, am I gonna cramp you style... or something else?" Dorian just grumbled and Domonique followed him. This would make his father pay dearly. And Domonique would enjoy his torment.

Name: elvyralani
Prompt: #2
Foal name: Alinda

Alinda looked back and forth between her parents, her brother and sister were both standing next to their mother. The decision was before her of which of her parents she'd rather live with. Being a carefree foal, she rarely ever made decisions that were hard, for now she would rather dance through life. Why did there have to be tough decisions.

She looked at them both again and shook her perfect mane in slight frustration. Why was this her decision to make, couldn't she just go off and play. Neither of her siblings ever liked to play much. They'd like to do what was good for them and listen. No, Alinda would rather run off and have fun, though while up-keeping her looks, those were very important.

Would life with mother be full of rules? And her siblings, she'd have to tolerate them more. Though father was not the most nurturing one, if she did not pick him, he'd have none of his family. Alinda wished she could just go off and deal with this later. Father was nice though and she felt close to him, she did not know it but she got her carefree attitude from him.

"I want to go with father." Part of her said this so he wouldn't be lonely. Her logic on this was that if he did not want one of them to come with him, he'd have said so. Alinda wanted to be with her father since her siblings did not want to. Besides, they were similar in the behavior, she could have more fun with him. She would not have been true to herself if she didn't pick him. Perhaps now they could glide where turf was smooth.

Name: Novablu
Prompt: 2
Foal Name: Khairova (Kerr-OVA)

We can't take another fight...
We can't fake these smiles; these smiles upon our faces
Merely a facade to hide true emotions

We're just not happy.
We're just not complete.
Two halves that don't make a whole.

Try and understand?

Nessa was a dreamer who saw wrong in hardly anything. Not even Dad.
Kardot was a bit more fiery, but relaxed, taking everything in stride. Even this.

Not her. She couldn't. How could they?
How could they just...split like this? Sure, they were unplanned...but why? Why not later?

She bit her tongue and looked up through hazy eyes.

Mom's standing at one fork in this road and Dad's standing in the other.

Ness and Kar looked between each other and with gazes to both her and Dorian, slowly moved to Anolani's side. Momma's angels. Perfect angels. Perfect little...

She shivered and looked down at her hooves. Dainty, pretty hooves. Momma's hooves.

She kicked the ground, wanting to spit. Wanting to spit fire at them both, make them burn into ash. The ash would flicker out, dim, and float through the skies like dashed dreams. Dashed love. Dashed life.

She couldn't contain a scream. It just...escaped, out into the open, into the cool spring air. Just like the tears that burned.

Anolani's ears flicked back, worry eminent in her eyes. Dorian looked away. Embarrassed? Ashamed? She hoped he was! He deserved to be!

"Why?" It was the only thing she could utter.

"Khair...it's not you, baby--" 'Lani stepped forwards with a nicker. She stretched out her muzzle to touch her daughter's face. Khairova jerked backwards, disgusted with the fluttering stench of vanilla that had always warmed the foals' hearts.

"I know it's not."

The fire in the filly's sapphire gaze lit up once again. Could she get used to never seeing her beautiful mother? Could she get used to dealing with Dorian's brash ego day in and day out? They were her parents. And her siblings?

Anolani turned away, sad by this reaction, and began the fateful walk away from the camp. Kardot and Nessa watched, wide-eyed for a moment, before taking off after her. The firelight flickered against Dorian's dark rump as the daughter stared her father down.

She didn't want to hate... She didn't want this. It was his fault. She should just follow along with the rest of the family...

But she couldn't leave him alone. She didn't know that he'd wander off to swoon over another mare and Khairova would have brothers and sisters once again.

"I hate you," she spat, falling into step beside him.

His eyes widened. "I-I'm sorry..."

"No you're not."

He wasn't.

And like father like daughter, neither was she.

She would never be sorry.

Just let everything be wonderful again...
Away from each other...

Prompt 1
filly
Meryl

Meryl eyed the trail with big, wonderous eyes. Her mouth fell open adn she lowered her head until her nose touched the ground. She looked over to her brothers and smirked. They were playing macho games. Seeing who was tougher. Mommy was trying to convince daddy to stay. This would be a perfect time to wander off a be back before anyone even noticed she'd gone! She'd stay clean and hustle back. She turned her attention back to the trail. She cocked her head as she lowered her head to the earth again, running it along the trail as she followed it. Soon she noticed what she was doing.

Meryl gasped and looked towards her family. her nose was dripping mud but no one noticed, she decided. She turned back and shook off the mud. It splattered on her sides and back and rest of her face. She gasped again and tried to roll around in the grass to get it off. but under grass is dirt. It had rained and raid and dirt make mud. Meryl got up, her whole side covered in mud and grass. She didn't want her mommy and daddy to see her like this so she ran for it. She ran into the forest, there had to be a lake or river or SOMETHING!

She was immideatly snagged by pine needles in her mane. She twisted and took a branch away as she ran. She fell over a log and landed face first in a puddle. She got up and found her face and chest covered in dirty water and dead leaves. She squealed and ran faster, her hooves stamping up more mud all over her legs. Meryl stopped short of hitting a pile of leaves and veered to her left where she ran into a dead tree. Now not only was her mane and tail covered in bugs and dead bark but her head hurt. She began to cry as she ran through a berry bramble, her hooves squishing berries, making them stain her hooves and legs. A few even got stuck in her tail.

Just when she thought it couldn't get any worse, Meryl came out of the forest right infront of her parents. She sniffed and they both turned. Even her brothers stopped. they looked at each other and fell over laughing. Her father looked disgusted as he jumped up and cantered in place before he made a bee line opposite of Meryl. Her mother laugh too, but only for a second. "Oh, my poor baby." Meryl burst into tears and said, "I only wanted to see a trial, and I got my nose dirty, then I tried to wipe it off, then I got my side dirty, then I tried to wash it off and then all this happened! I don't even remember what happened," she sobbed. Her mother only laughed and lead her to the lake to clena her off, Meryl couldn't wait to be clean again.

Name: Baniru
Prompt: 2
Foal's Name: Lorilei

It had started out as a pleasant day, nice and warm with a gentle breeze. They'd been walking for awhile along a dusty trail, which Dorian had sneered at when they had first arrived, and Anolani had to coax him to follow. Lorilei had to agree with her father, as it was a very dirty road, though she kept those thoughts to herself. It wouldn't do to look anything less than prim.

The trail eventually widened into a meadow filled with flowers of all sizes and colors, speckled here and there among the grass. The foal watched as her siblings ran ahead, whinnying and kicking up loam everywhere, and she privately shared a look of disgust with her father, who seemed mortified at the very action.

Lorilei loved her father. The older she grew, the more she found that they agreed on a great deal of many things, unlike her mother, which she quietly disagreed with on more than one occasion. Yes, she supposed life could be all sunshine and roses, but it didn't get that way by running in the meadow and rolling in dirt.

Lorilei had just begun wiping the dust from her hooves when her mother let off a loud, concerned whinny, telling the children to draw close. She obediently hopped off and tried her best to walk over without getting pollen in her coat.

"Yes?" she said sweetly, fakely, and sniffed impatiently as her other siblings walked up with petals in their hair and dirt on their noses.
How... rude. How undignified, really. They could do to at least be polite.

As the moments passed, her parents began to explain the situation, and Lorilei's eyes lit up greedily. Her siblings had chosen to go with their mother- why, this was a chance to get away from them. And if she had to choose, her father would always be the shining pillar of perfection in her mind, the one she had always agreed with in the end.

"I'm going with father," Lorilei said with her tail held high, and pranced to his side, content to never look back.

Name: JadeEye
Prompt: #2
Foal name: Elizjah (colt)

Elizjah was not a sucking colt any longer and even as he stood on the brink of adolescence, he recognized that the power he had been given in that moment of "Choose, come with me or with your father" could be the best or worst thing to happen to him. The foal issued a soft whoosh of breath, uttering a soft, uncertain "Oh..." that hung in the air.

Even as Elizjah stood there, a bridge between the two parents he loved without question, an uneasy flutter rose in his stomach. The soft smile on his mother face contrasted the almost indifferent, uninterested facade his father seemed to ooze by simply keeping his eyes averted and his chin held just a touch too high. Elizjah never questioned his mother's love for him as the mare had always made it clear in her words and actions. To suggest otherwise was a bold-face lie. Yet, sometimes Elizjah wondered about his father. Dorian had never been cruel or hateful, but he had never been particularly warm either in comparison to Anolani. Dorian was Dorian and if one couldn't accept it, then so be it. Even though the cool exterior of his father left less of a 'warm fuzzy feeling' in the young colt, Elizjah still felt drawn to him. Anolani and the foal were close. Dorian and the foal were not.

The logical decision was to go with the mother. Nature always spoke silently that a mother was always better adapted to raise young than the father and that the life of offspring could be compromised if the father alone attempted to raise the child. Mother nature had this unspoke law in the books long before Anolani and Dorian were even in existance. Elizjah knew nothing of the laws of nature and everything about the yearning of full acceptance and closeness a child requires of a parent.

"I think I will go with Dad," Elizjah finally spoke, his voice echoing a slight uncertainty to it that showed in his eyes as he searched his father's for a sign of approval. "Just 'cause I'm going with him don't mean I can't see you Mama, right? Or my brother and sister? Or what about Grandmama and Grandpapa?" If this decision came to a full cut-off from the rest of his family, that might have persuaded the colt to stay with his mother. To lose them in an attempt to win over an indifferent father was too much.

'Lani continued to smile at her son, even as the corners of her mouth turned just ever so slightly in disappointment, but nodded confirmation and gave the foal an affectionate cheek rub. "Of course dear. Where ever you go, you know the rest of us will be thinking of you and eager to see you again. I know we will see each other often." She withdrew her muzzle and lifted her head to look at Dorian, who was now casting an appraising look on his new charge as though seeing him for the first time. For all 'Lani knew, this could be the first time that Elizjah was penetrating the cloud of Dorian's self-centeredness.

Elizjah lifted his eyes to meet those of his father's, looking for that spark of fatherly affection that he desired more than anything at that very second. He needed to know his decision was the right one.

When that spark did not come, Elizjah knew he had made the right choice. He would find it, even if it meant stepping away from his mother and siblings to do so.

Foals name: Solian

Solian watched as her two siblings went and stood next to her mother. she felt her heart being torn into two. her parents had decided that it was best for the family to split up, her father leaves in one direction and her mother goes off in the other.

Solian had heard her parents fighting before, but she had never thought it would amount to this. she could feel tears coming to her eyes and tried her hardest to hold them back. what do i do, i love them both so much the tears came and slowly dripped down the side of her face.

Solian knew who she wanted to go with but was unsure. she wanted, more than anything in the world to be with her father. she knew it would be hard, and that her mother would be able to take better care of her, but she did not care. she wanted her father.

she lifted her head slowly and looked at Dorian. his wings tucked against his side and his proud face frowning slightly at her. Solian quickly looked down at her hooves. Dorian had never wanted her, or any of her siblings for that matter. she was an accident child. Dorian was just out looking for fun...not for a family. she was sure this is why her parents were splitting up. he did not want her, or anything to do with her. not to mention she looked like her mother. i would be a permanent reminder of what he had done, why would he want her.

with that thought Solian turned towards her mother and through broken sobs said. "im going to stay with you." she felt the tears rolling down her face more steddilly now. she could not help but cry, for her heart had been broken by the very horse that had help make it.

she did not turn when she heard Dorian walking away, for she knew that if she looked back at him she would loose it. instead she buried her head into her mothers side and cried.

Name: Shadowlink005
Prompt: 2
Foal’s Name: Flynn
Foal’s Gender: Male

“Wha…what do you mean you two are splitting up?” Flynn gasped, looking between his two parents. His mother, a beautiful Flutter, was standing there in front of him, tears streaming down her long, graceful face. Yet, she was trying to give him a smile, telling him it would be okay.

His father stood a distance away, snorting impatiently, stomping the ground with one hoof and flapping his wings. He wanted to get on with his life, with or without Flynn.

His siblings had already chosen their mother to stay with, and looked at him with eyes screaming for him to go with them, and take care of their mother. Yet, something about Dorian’s posture was calling to him, as though Dorian actually wanted Flynn.

Flynn looked between both of his parents; tears streaming down his face. Didn’t mom and dad love each other? Wasn’t that how he was born? Wasn’t that how his friend’s families were? Why was his different?

It was too much for him to handle, and he broke down, sobbing as he ran away. His tears clouded his vision, as he went into the nearby woods, sobs ringing out and echoing. Once he had finally slowed down to a trot, and his tears were dry, he realized where he had gone. Light barely seeped through the limbs and branches of the thickly leaved oaks, creating an eerie gray light, with an even creepier atmosphere. Flynn felt as though there were millions of eyes, their respective owners’ lips being smacked, and their tongues lazily hanging out of the side of their mouths, panting with hunger.

A twig cracked, sending Flynn into a panicked spree of running, which took about a minute to end, and Flynn began trotting again. He began to reflect upon what had happened that morning. Mom and dad were talking in hushed voices, while Swell and Rift, his brother and sister, had been playing tag. Flynn, not one for active play, in fear of mussing his hair up had decided to sit this game out. He watched the birds with interest, until a sob rattled his half awake state, and his father was walking over to him, telling him to get up. He told them he and his mother were splitting up, and he had to choose whom to go with.

He sighed, hanging his head. It must have been his fault they decided to split. He didn’t know why it would be, but he was probably to blame for it.
Suddenly, he heard heavy breathing, and footfalls that were not of any horse he had heard. He turned around, to find himself nose to nose with a bear. The giant grizzly’s eyes were bloodshot, its breath smelt like rotten fish, and his teeth were caked in blood. It reared its body upward, letting out a terrible roar. Flynn closed his eyes, awaiting the first strike to come, and puncture his skin. But he never felt it.

“You will NOT hurt my son!” Flynn heard Dorian yell, and give a grunt. When Flynn opened his eyes, he saw his father pushing against the bear, fighting for him. Eventually, the bear backed off, realizing it was outmatched.

“Ugh, my hair.” Dorian complained the second it was over, sticking his tongue out. He shook his head, attempting to make it right, but only made it messier.

“Flynn, you’re in so much trouble when we get back young man.” He scolded, walking over to his son’s side. “Now come along, before I get anything else caught in my coat.”

Once back in the clearing, Flynn was in the middle of his parents once again. But this time, he knew whom he would go with. He trotted over to his father’s side, looking at his siblings and mother.

“Don’t worry, I’ll come visit you some time, I promise.” He assured them, nodding. They nodded back, a fresh well of tears springing up into his mother’s eyes.

“Hey! Flynn! When we meet again, I’m gonna kick you’re a-mrph!” Swell, his brother, had been cut off by his mother’s tail, and she gave him a smile, nodding back, tears starting to run down her face.

“Come on Flynn, it’s time to go.” Dorian ordered, turning around to walk away. Flynn took one last look at his mother and siblings, before turning around and catching up with his father.

“So tell me, why did you not go with your mother?”

“Well, you came to protect me. And besides, someone’s gotta keep you in check, right?”

Foal Name: Mirantha
Prompt: Your father and your mother decide its within your best interest to part and go their separate ways. Your two siblings have chosen to go with your nurturing mother, and now it is your turn to decide whether to join your mother and siblings or tag along with your self-absorbed father. What choice do you make and why? Please RP out the child's response to the scenario~

Mirantha swung his head back and forth, looking first from one parent to the other, trying desperately to find evidence from one or the other that this was just some kind of joke. Yes, that's all it was just some big joke. They just couldn't be splitting up, could they?

"Da, this is just some kind of joke, right?" Miran looked first to the father he worshipped. Sure, Dorian wasn't exactly the most dependable. And he wasn't around all that much-too busy chasing everything that was beautiful enough to capture his gaze for more than a few seconds- but they were family. The stallion turned his head away and refused to answer. Which should have been enough in and of itself to impress upon the colt the seriousness of the situation.

There was enough of his mother in him to make Miran still believe that there was some hope for a happier resolution to this then there currently appeared to be. He looked to his beautiful mother, the one who actually managed to gain Dorian's attention and hold it even for a short period of time. Crystalline tears rolled down her cheeks as she fought back her own sobs at the breaking of her family.

"Mir, your sisters will be coming along with me. They don't really get along with your father that well, but we thought it only fair if you got to decide whom you went with. You are a big, brave boy now, and its only right. I don't want you to hate either of us for forcing you.." 'Lani tried to be strong as she presented him with the choice that would break her heart more than it already was, whatever he decided.

Faced with the undeniable truth, for 'Lani to break into tears, her irrepressible good spirits darkened it couldn't be anything but, Mirantha was shocked and heartbroken. Leave either his father, the beautiful stallion, his role model and friend, alone to chase what beauty he may find, one day realizing what he had and abandoned-for this split was truly nothing less- or the sweet, kindhearted mother and peskily adorable sisters with no one to protect them. But still, at least they would have each other- Dorian would be left with no one.

Alone. The word rang loudly in his heart and mind, and though he loved his mother and sisters dearly, he knew what his choice would have to be. The young colt drew a deep breath to prepare himself to say what once spoken could never be taken back and would change his life forever.

"Mom, please don't tell the girls why this happened or why I'm gone. I love you so much. You and sissy's both. But you have each other and da, da would have no one. Please, don't cry for me."

Mirantha turned away so he wouldn't have to see the look of devastaion which was sure to grace his mothers elegant face. He couldn't be strong enough to walk away from his family, mom and the girls, if he saw tears that he caused. With a lump in his throat and a heavy heart he walked to stand next to his father.

This was the right choice. It just had to be.

Dorian looked proudly at his handsome son,who was so brave, who was willing to just leave with him, no questions asked, no real time elapsed. He nuzzled the youngsters mane with as much affection as he ever showed.

As much as he loved his mom, Mirantha was his father's son, and the open plains called out to him. Maybe travelling wouldn't be so bad. Maybe it would help to soothe his wounded heart, and bring peace to his battered soul. Help him to see just what made his father the way he was, to help him understand. And just maybe to find the beauty that he longed for.

"Well da, so where are we going?" Mirantha was proud that his voice was steady and didn't reveal the conflict in his heart.

Don't worry, mom, one day I'll return either with da when he realizes just what he gave up, or when he no longer needs me, and we can be a family again.

Prompt: Two
Foal Name: Keagan (colt)

"So, you have a choice to make..."

Keagan had asked for a bit of time alone to mull this over. If he was honest with himself, he would acknowledge that this split wasn't entirely unforeseen. In fact, he had always found his parents' relationship to be odd, strained. His father's actions as a parent had been halfhearted at best, and his mother always seemed to have a lingering sadness and uncertainty in her eyes.

The choice, he found, was obvious. Dorian had made it fairly clear from the get-go that his personal happiness and wellbeing took precedence over that of his kids. Anolani, on the other hand, had always seemed a devoted and doting mother. What fool would choose to follow the egotistical stallion?

For one of the first times in his life, gentle little Keagan felt angry. He had tried so hard to be a good son, to win his father's affections. What was he doing wrong? Was he actually doing something wrong, or was his father simply too self-absorbed to give a damn about his kids?

Keagan dug his hooves into the dirt, suddenly with half a mind to tag along with his father, just out of spite. But just as quickly as the anger rose, it faded away, and so the slightly undersized colt was left tired and emotionally drained.

With a sigh and a heavy heart, he went back to his family, each step slow and planned. When he stood before his parents, he glanced between them quietly.

"I want to stay with Mama," he said, unable to look at Dorian longer than a second or two. "With Mama," he repeated.

That was what Dorian wanted, right? Perhaps, with this decision, he could finally please his father.

Prompt: 2
Foal Name: N/A

A light colored hoof pressed down onto the blades of grass, watching it buckle and bend under the weight. Like his heart, it was crushed under the pressure that surrounded it till there was the rough indent of his petite hoof. Lifting his slender leg, he inspected the grass and snorted a little before walking away.

Flicking an irritable tail, he wanted to feel angry, he wanted to yell and scream and cry. But no, his father would frown at him while telling him to buck up and his mother would be too sympathetic. Neither reactions were what he wanted. He wanted them to feel bad for making him choose between them when he loved them both so unconditionally. He wanted them to change their mind and not part ways and keep the family together. What the little foal couldn’t understand was how his siblings could make up their minds so easily. Yes their mother was an ideal choice, most suited for parenting. She was nurturing, kind, understanding; everything a little foal needed to grow up with he supposed. However what about their father? He deserved a family too as much as he denied them at times. Yes he was a little self-centered but he was sure his father would never let anything terrible befall him and his siblings. There had to be love there.

Crying out to express his frustration, he stomped his hoof down as well to let go of the pent up emotion. He couldn’t keep it bottled up, his straight face to his parents couldn’t hold up when alone. Releasing a slow tired sigh, the foal blinked as he lifted his leg again. Rich blue hues widened seeing the little flower, crumbled where the violent indentation in the ground was from his outburst. Lowering his head, he sniffed the now ruined flower and nosed it gently. Watching one of the delicate petals separate from the stem, his heart ached. There had once been a perfect flower there… now it had been separated out of his own distress. Whimpering a little, he knelt down forwards and tried to nose the petal back to the rest of the flower. No amount of nudging or licking at the petal and flower were ever going to make it whole again.

Standing upright, he looked at the fallen flower and then back towards the small grove he had run off from. Turning his gaze back down at the flower, he dug one hoof into the earth and made a shallow hole. As gently as he could, he plucked the flower from the dirt and returned it back into the soft earth. He nudged the lonely petal and placed it with the rest of the flower before covering it up again. Nothing deserved to be all alone, even if it was just a flower petal. No matter how broken apart it was from the rest, it still belonged with it.

Keeping that in mind, the little blue foal turned and slowly walked back to the little grove. With a little piece of hope stuck in the side of his heart, he headed back to give his answer to his family.

Oh, temptation was never a good thing. If there was one thing that terrified Prudence more than anything in the world, it was displeasing her father. Her mother was easy enough to please (thankfully, as she honestly doubted her little heart could take much more stress), but it always seemed as if her father had one hoof 'out the door', so to speak. That constant fear that he might leave them was always above her head, and so Prudence was always acting, well, different. At heart, Prudence was the biggest tomboy you could ever meet. She loved romping around; she loved rough housing with boys; and, most of all, she loved getting dirty. Unfortunately, her father felt quite the opposite on all these things and very much loathed getting dirty especially.

Still, that little path looked so interesting that she could feel her insides quake with curiousity. The mud was glistening in the sunlight, adding the proverbial cherry on top, and Prudence flicked her tail almost impatiently as her gut urged her to take the forbidden trail. One shiny little hoof raised before it halted in midair, her forehead creasing as her bright eyes glanced back to her primped father. What would he have to say about this whole ordeal? He would be absolutely flabbergasted at her apparently sudden desire to be dirty, that's what. Dorian had never seen Prudence with even a speck of dirt on her. Those few times she had given in to temptation, she had been quick to either wash away the muck or avoid him until she could do so. There would be little chance of her avoiding him out here, besides that everyone would be looking for her before long. She had no idea where a washing place would be around here!

Shifting uncomfortably as she set the tiny hoof back on the ground, she dropped her head to look at the mud more closely. That was what did it. The next thing Prudence knew, she was darting unceremoniously down the trail, flicking dirt up and about as if it were naught but water. She couldn't have resisted, not with the evidence so close to her face. She was lost in the pleasure of the cold, heavy substance as it stuck to her pelt. Once she started, there was no turning back and she stubbornly continued onward despite the dread that was creeping up her spine. She would have to return to her family eventually. A blind hope filled her mind; perhaps there would be a spring at the end of the path!

But there was no spring. Infact, there was nothing at the end of the short path at all. It ended quite abruptly at the roots of an old, dead tree. The tree might have been fascinating if she hadn't, by then, been completely overwrought with the sensation of disaster. Her father was going to leave them right then and there. She was so wonderously, devastatingly dirty that she had no doubt he would be disgusted at the very sight of her. Nevertheless, return home she must. Ears flicked back and head dropped low, she started her way back to where her family was still meandering down the main path. They weren't far off now, and imagine her grim surprise when her father was standing directly before her as she appeared through the tall shoots. His own shock was evident, and she cringed as he exclaimed, "Prudence! What ... you're filthy!"

Fumbling about for an answer, Prudence squinted her eyes together for a few moments before looking up at the dark stallion. Her tail, sodden with mud, flicked against her flank as she mentally grasped for some sort of explanation. He was more flabbergasted than she could have imagined. Finally, she gasped her reply mid-grimace, "A mud bath, daddy! Didn't you know? It's good for your coat."

She should have known that would have been the sorriest excuse in the book for her behavior on their walk the other day. That had been the straw that had broken the camel's back apparently, because now her parents were splitting. It had to be because of her little escapade with the muddy trail. She had been so good about staying clean around her father before and she was sure the shock had scared him clean off their little family. Dorian and Anolani had tried to explain it to her and her siblings multiple times, claiming time and again that it wasn't their fault but they had to make their own decisions.

Prudence hadn't the faintest idea on what kind of decision she was expected to make. Of course, she knew that she had to chose between tagging along with her father or joining her siblings with their loving mother, but what did they expect her to say? Her parents. Her heart tugged her towards her endearing mother and the comfort of the majority of her family, but it also yearned to provide comfort and companionship to her father, even if he would never admit that he needed either from her - even if he didn't really need them at all.

"Really, Pru, if you want to wait a little while, Dor -... Daddy will stick close for a day or two so you can make your decision." She caught the pleading look that Lani shot Dorian, and the little filly winced, "But you do need to make a decision, dear."

Now that certainly didn't make it any easier. Shifting from one foot to another, her clear brow furrowed as she looked from mother to father as if one or the other would answer for her. It was obvious that neither would, and both were looking pointedly away from as if afraid to influence her decision. "I..." She murmured, watching her mother glance down at the little filly with nothing but warmth and hope in those pretty gem eyes. Prudence couldn't bear hurting her mother any more than this already was, whether or not the drama was all made up in Prudence's head. It was her fault her family had to suffer through this, but though she knew it would be proper punishment to follow her father, she couldn't do it. She couldn't leave her mother behind. Maybe she was selfish, for she couldn't bear to never see her family again either. "I'll stay with mother."

The reply was breathed with such relief that she hardly dared to look at Dorian, but she did. He seemed to be hiding complete elation behind a thin veil of depression. It was almost like he couldn't get his expressions right, but Prudence stuck on with the idea that her father would miss her, and that this was all her fault, "I'll find you one day, Daddy. I promise. I'll make it up to you."

Dorian didn't seemed particularly enthused by the idea, but if it kept the little rascals out of his mane for now, so be it.

Foal Prompt 2

Your father and your mother decide its within your best interest to part and go their separate ways. Your two siblings have chosen to go with your nurturing mother, and now it is your turn to decide whether to join your mother and siblings or tag along with your self-absorbed father. What choice do you make and why? Please RP out the child's response to the scenario~

Buruhime watched a her brother and sister quickly sided with their mother. Her parents' had agreed that it would be in their best intrest to seperate. She needed to make a choice and she needed to make it soon. They wouldn't wait forever for her to choose. Buruhime decided to let her memory of her life take control of the flow of things.

Two days ago on a soft, springy meadow her mother had helped when she twisted her ankle. It had taken hours and yet she never gave in.

Buruhime quickly snapped back to reality. The choice was simply too hard for her to make. To give up on one parent and never know the wonders that could've followed with that parent. Her mother was sweet, kind, and other words that Buruhim couldn't even begin to express. And her father... Well, he liked being alone.

Buruhime's life centered around her mother. It was as if her father was just out of the tight knit little group.

"Hurry up dear."

Buruhime heard the voice of one of her family members, but she was too focused on what she was thinking about that she hardly heard the words let alone know who it came from.

The majority of her life was with her mother. She was always there.

The choice came to Buruhime slowly. She knew that if she messed up now it would be eternal.

"I want to..." She began weakly unconfident with what she was about to say. Looking at the reassuring eyes of her family she continued confidently and strong. "I want to stay with Father!"

Her choice was made simply. Her life was with her mother it always had been. Dorian wasn't a bad stallion, she never had much talk with him either. This was her chance to get to know him more. To recieve love from him.
