THE INTRO

Hello everyone! Cuter and I are having a hell of a time trying to decide what to do with our extra basket, so we decided to make it even harder by throwing a quick RP contest! Isn't that exciting, folks?!

STARTS: LIKE NAOW.

ENDS: Saturday, June 14th, 12:00pm CST (That's Noon, not midnight >O>)

PostPosted: Sun Jun 08, 2008 10:25 am

THE RULES

1. If the only reason why you're entering this contest is because you want a horribly gorgeous basket/foal/adult to stick in your sig and babywhore out when it reaches its breeding requirements... this contest is not for you. Now, if you're interested in getting a basket/foal/adult and RPing it? This contest should be right up your alley. Neither parent's owner is an RP fanatic so it would be unfair to force the winner to RPRPRPRPRPRP the child, and we're not asking that. We're looking to find a new and loving home for our darlings' darling, and as this family is special to us, we ask that the future owner remember that, especially when it comes time for breeding and storyline RP. ):

2. Surreality and Cuter are judging this contest. Yes, this means that they're in charge. No, they cannot be bribed, as tempting as that may sound. *__*

3. Any questions that you may have can be posted in this thread where they will be answered as soon as possible.

4. No whining, guilt-trips or complaints. This is, above all, for fun... and the spread of sexiness in the form of a horse. ): Dorian would not approve of dramatic drama llamas!

5. The Contest Basket is not to be co-owned or given away to friend or anyone else. Kind of defeats the purpose of RPing for it, ya know? YOU WON IT, SO DEAL WITH IT BY YOURSELF.

6. ANYONE CAN ENTER. You can have 0 Soquili or you could have 100 Soquili.

7. Last but not least, make sure you follow the Gaia TOS and the Soquili shop rules. (hurhurhur, duuur).

Are you sure you read the rules?
Super sure?
Absolutely super sure?

Well then, if you're still hanging around, then you're probably interested in:

THE FAMILY
You're stuck with 'em! 8D

Dorian (father): Dorian is a very egotistical stallion. Claiming to be a lover of all things beautiful, he met 'Lani one fateful evening and fell head over hooves for her beautiful, sweet, naive self. Believing it to be just another typical one night stand with a lovely female companion, Dorian's fate caught up with him and he now finds himself father to three foals... something he swore would never happen. So now he finds himself in conflict... does he simply up and run away to continue the philandering life he knew and loved, or attempt to raise these little nuisances, as they are now living embodiments of his own handsome self? ONLY TIME WILL TELL!

Anolani (mother): 'lani is the animal embodiment of vanilla extract: unbelievably sweet and mild tempered in nature. There isn't a thing that would put a damper on her optimism [aside from a healthy dose of harsh realism], and even then, it doesn't take long for her to perk right up again. She's ecstatic over her newfound family, as there's nothing more joyous to her than having foals; though she's having a hard time convincing Dorian otherwise. She comes from a large family full of happy shiny blue ponies, so it will be interesting to see how she'd react to a situation that isn't quite like what she's used to.

basket two (offspring): enjoys long walks on the beach.

basket three (offspring): would rather watch indy romantic movies with just a hint of action.

MAI TURN, MAI TURN biggrin heart

Feel free to choose either or both prompts to respond to. As the gender of the basket is unknown at this time, feel free to choose either gender to RP it as. (You will not be penalized if the gender you chose to RP is not the gender the foal turns out to be).

THIS IS THE BASKET YOU WILL BE TRYING FOR:

THESE ARE THE PROMPTS YOU GET TO CHOOSE FROM:
(please specify in your post which prompt you're responding to!)

Foal Prompt 1

It was another one of those afternoon get-togethers with the family. Your siblings were off romping around ahead of the parents, and you...were idly looking at a barely noticeable trail heading the opposite direction that everyone else was going. It had just rained, so the trail looked very muddy, but...still, it was enticing. Looking forward, you see that 'Lani and Dorian are completely engrossed in other things, so the chance at exploring is definitely there!

What would do you do? Do you brave the dirty and the unknown, or do you stick by the safety of your parents? If you went, how would you deal with being covered in mud and potentially ruining a perfect hair-do? Dorian is QUITE the stickler when it comes to physical beauty and cleanliness - would you avoid your father?

Foal Prompt 2

Your father and your mother decide its within your best interest to part and go their separate ways. Your two siblings have chosen to go with your nurturing mother, and now it is your turn to decide whether to join your mother and siblings or tag along with your self-absorbed father. What choice do you make and why? Please RP out the child's response to the scenario~

You may godmod the other foals (no gender is known!), and you may godmod Anolani and Dorian in your response, but we ask that you try to keep them true to character (you can see more about their personalities in the descriptions above), and try not to be too excessive in your godmodding.

Name: Chaifuzz
Prompt of Choice: 1
Name of foal: Demetra

Demetra sniffed primly as she watched her siblings play around ahead of her. Daintily, she placed each hoof where it would suffer the least amount of dirtyness. Her siblings seemed so...unconcerned about appearances. How can they stand it? Appearances are everything She thought to herself, a crisp little smile dancing across her face. Her fun loving mother was absorbed in a conversation with her father. Demetra took more after her father, after all, she had the looks to prove it, and the attitude to do it, but she wasn't rude about it.

Out of the corner of her eye, Demetra spotted a tiny path, covered in mud. Her first thought was, Ugh! How disguesting! Why would anyone want to go in there, my hair would be ruined, my freshly buffed and shinned hooves would be splattered, and my coat would be simply horific! She recoiled from it, but then another thought entered her head. Wouldn't it be fun to get dirty for once like my siblings?

Horrified, she pushed the thought away, "Ugh! No way, besides, what would my father think." She stuck her nose in the air, prepared to continue past the disguesting mud filled trail, but the thought came back. Wouldn't it be nice to get dirty, just once? No one's looking. Wouldn't it be fun to do something naughty for once? Demetra stopped, her pretty little hooves planting themselves firmly on the ground. With a mischievous smile on her face, she pranced over to the trail and called out softly, "Hello dirty little trail"

She swung her head around, to make sure that Dorian and 'Lani weren't looking, and tentatively put a hoof on the trail. She sunk in knee deep, and recoiled in shock. "Eeew! Oh my gosh, this is revolting!" Hurridly, she pulled her hoof out of the muddy trail and examined it. "How disguesting! My hooves are a mess, and my coat up to my knee is simply ruined."

Demetra wanted to sit down and bawl, but instead wipped her hoof off on the grass until it was sparkly and shiny, and rubbed the mud off the fur up to her knee the best she could. She shot a dark look at the muddy trail, and muttered, "Yuck, I cannot believe I thought I was actually going to go in there. I mean, come on, my hair is perfect, my tail is perfect, my coat is perfect. Everything about me is perfect." She stuck her nose in the air happily, already over her dirty excursion, and primly trotted back to her parents, an idea to stay out of trouble already in her mind.

She already knew what she was going to say: It's so hard to stay perfect, isn't it father? How do you do it, I mean, you never get dirty or anything, you're just amazing! She smiled, and looked ahead to see her siblings still playing. Oh yes, she thought, I will get out of this no problem, after all, a perfect stallion like my father can't refuse a compliment. Ever. But then again...neither can I, but I'm perfect, so it doesn't really matter that much anyway. She grinned, and swished her tail...perfectly of course.

Prompt 1

Greenstripe was dawdling behind the rest of his family, investigating everything interesting as he went. Blue and Teal were somewhere up ahead, in a hurry to get to wherever they were going, and Mom and Dad were trying to keep them from getting too far. So nobody was keeping an eye on the third foal as he made his way along.

He was looking at a fernlike plant, trying to figure out if it was, firstly, edible and secondly whether it was too pretty to eat or not. Even though he was a boy, Greenstripe had a healthy appreciation for beauty thanks to his dad. So when a butterfly landed on one of the ferns, his attention was riveted to the insect. And as it took off again, he noticed a side path. It was going away from where his family was...and it was covered in mud...but Greenstripe couldn't help but wonder what was down that path.

The foal stopped walking and studied the mysterious path. It really wasn't any prettier or uglier than the one he trod, but it was different. On the other hand, he could no longer see his family up ahead of him, though he could hear Mom and Dad chastizing Teal and Blue about getting too far ahead for the umpteenth time.

Greenstripe took a curious couple of steps towards the other path. Nothing untoward happened and, encouraged, he took a couple more steps, bringing him near enough to sniff a delicate white flower blooming not too far down. Its scent was as lovely as its form, he determined, and took another sniff to savor it.

Emboldened, the foal took another couple steps down the path, trying to ignore the squelching sounds his hooves made in the sucking mud. He was trying to step carefully, to keep the mud from splattering all over, but his success was mixed.

A few horselengths down the path Greenstripe suddenly stopped as a chill wind blew up the path to him. Suddenly, this muddy little adventure seemed very very scary and his parents and siblings very very far away. The foal backed up slowly, no longer being quite so careful of the mud.

The wind came again, and this time there was a low moaning sound on it. Greenstripe's ears went back in fear and he squealed, turning around as fast as he possibly could and galloping back to the main path. He didn't stop until he ran right into his father.

The force knocked Greenstripe onto his rear and Dorian looked a bit stunned. The stallion shook his head to clear it and looked at his son in confusion.

"What in the world!? Greenstripe! Look at that mud! What were you doing, rolling around in it?" he asked the foal in a tone of annoyance. "And look!" Dorian continued, "You've gotten it all over me too! What do you have to say for yourself?"

Greenstripe ducked his head in shame. "I'm sorry Dad, there was this path and I was curious and then the wind..." the foal rambled, trying to appease the father whom he didn't want to dissappoint.

Anolani, who'd been watching over Blue and Teal, had looked up when Greenstripe arrived and now she came over. "Oh, Dorian, don't be so mean to him!" she chided. "He didn't mean to get all muddy and get you muddy as well. Can't you see he's scared?" The mare went over to nuzzle her son. "It's all right sweetie, we're here now..."

Greenstripe cuddled into his mother, both oblivious to the mud he was getting on both of them. Dorian snorted. "I just think that he should have more respect for his cleanliness," he replied, knowing it was unlikely either was paying attention to him anymore.

"I'm sorry Dad," Greenstripe said again. "I won't do it again, I promise."

Dorian nodded his acceptance of this statement, though a certain look in his eye proclaimed that the stallion had his doubts about his son's ability to keep the promise, and went over to keep an eye on the girls.

Name: Samuel Carlin
Prompt: #1
Foal name: Riolan

Over river and through the woods…

Riolan had heard the song somewhere. Not that he was allowed to cross the river by himself. Or explore the woods alone. Still, it stuck in his ears at the worst times, making them twitch. Making him itch to get up and go and see what was out there. Behind that tree. Under that rock. He knew there was something waiting.

Something that wasn’t a mountain lion. Or a bear. Or a cliff or a storm or anything else bad. It was new and it was exciting and it practically shouted his name.

Or sang it in a song.

Riolan’s tail twitched anxiously as he looked over his shoulder toward where his parents and sisters had gone. The girls were busy chattering, asking questions a mile a minute, the way they usually did. He never had time to come up with his own with them around. He followed along and learned by listening to the answers they earned. They thought it made them smart, but Riolan knew he was as smart as they were. Just because he wasn’t as noisy, it didn’t mean he didn’t know as much!

At least about things around here.

But with them hopping and asking and laughing, his parents weren’t paying attention for just long enough that he scraped up the rest of his courage, gathered all his strength and bolted off along the mostly hidden path!

The first few strides were easy, flowing, even graceful. Riolan felt like he was floating over the ground. Just a few more lopes toward that first bend in the path and all the answers to his questions would be laid out in front of him. Finally, he’d know something first, something his sisters didn’t. Something he wouldn’t share until they were really nice to him—

He slipped. The right rear hoof shot out to the side and he stumbled. The left front skidded and he wobbled, nearly toppled and righted himself.

Then his rump traded places with his head as he spun on a slick of mud so he was briefly skating backward, the world around him a blur. Heart pounding in his throat, tail pinwheeling in a desperate attempt to keep him up right, he caught a breath, scared and desperate enough to squeal for help—

And he stopped. Still on his feet. That was a miracle! For a few long seconds, he stayed as he was, lock-kneed and panting, eyes wide. Slowly, carefully, he pulled one leg in, then another, stopping and hoping he wouldn’t fall when his hooves squished and slid in the fetlock-deep mud he stood in. Carefully, cautiously, he got his feet beneath him.

Took a step and slipped, but not as badly this time.

Then another. That time the skid was sort of fun.

He hesitated, looked around, then pushed into the next step. He glided forward and stopped at the puddle’s edge.

Fear turned into exaltation. He wasn’t slipping. He was skating!

He turned around and scooted his way across the slippery stuff, back the way he’d come. Then he tried a third time, this time swinging his rump around so he’d make another half spin.

His sisters couldn’t do this! He’d bet his parents never tried!

And that meant that he knew something that none of them knew! Wait until the girls saw this!

He was covered in mud splatters from his heels to his chest, but he didn’t even bother to stop and roll the evidence off. Dirt wouldn’t matter, he was sure, not what they saw what he’d discovered. Not when he showed them what he could do. He raced back up the path toward his family, kicking his heels up in delight.

Wait until they saw!

Prompt: #1
Name: elfstar89
Name of foal: Riviere (filly)

Riviere meandered behind her family, enjoying the warm summer sun, exploring, when she saw a muddy trail leading off into the trees behind them. It looked intriguing. She regretted a little not including her brother and sister in the adventure, but the trail was calling her name.

She slipped away, breaking into a quick trot once she was sure her parents wouldn't notice she'd left. The sun shone through the leaves, dappling the muddy ground. There were enough puddles along the trail that Riviere intentionally trotted through them. Her father wouldn't approve, but he wasn't present, so this was definitely the chance to run through puddles. So what if her mane and tail had been deemed perfect by her father earlier that afternoon? This was an adventure, and adventures involved having fun!

At some point in time, the path ran through a meadow where shy deer were grazing, and quails were resting out of the sun. Riviere grinned and charged straight through the meadow, scattering deer to the four winds and startling the various birds in the area into flight. Excited, she whinnied and trotted on.

It was late afternoon when she began to get lonely and miss her parents and brother and sister. She was lonely and lost, as well as muddy. Maybe her father wouldn't notice? She began whinnying as loudly as she could, hoping someone would notice her and come find her.

Riviere was lucky, because her mother came trotting along daintily. Her mother smiled. "Well, Riviere, it looks like you got into some mischief. Let's go back to your father."

Riviere then realized her father would still be mad at her if she came back muddy. "Mama, Daddy'll be mad at me for getting dirty." She felt miserable and guilty for running off and upsetting her parents.

Her mother nuzzled Riviere. "I know of a nice stream I passed on the way here where you can clean up. I'll help you get cleaned up before we get back to your father."

Riviere nuzzled her mother back. "Thank you, Mama." They trotted quickly off to the stream her mother had mentioned to get cleaned up so they would be presentable for Dorian.
