Mallow followed Duskwater's glance over to her hollow and a funny smirk crossed over her beak and large eyes. She gave a small chuckle. "Healing the sick and putting up with the whiny?" she repeated the question and moved her attention back to the Elite.

She waved a wing as if physically dismissing the idea."Pish posh, those are merely secondary aspects of my job -- the less important things, you see," she said in a matter-of-fact tone as sarcasm and humor danced on her face. "No no, the real job of a medic is to make connections with others and get your name out there, and then worry, worry, worry about whether or not you'll get reassigned to a more 'higher-up' location."

She suddenly gave a rather loud laugh. "That's all we care about." She was obviously lying, but wasn't afraid to make fun of her own job at certain times.

At this, Duskwater actually let out a deep, brief chuckle - only slightly too jovial to be a cough - and smiled as he habitually surveyed the surroundings once more.

"Ah, I see," he said, the glint of humor even more recognisable now, "then I fear that I have to tell you that it won't do you any good to talk to me; I am not in a position to reassign anyone to anything." He paused, and seemed to consider his words again. "...Much."

The look in his eyes as he turned back to the medic was much too serious to really be serious, and he fluffed up to make himself look even bigger and tougher than he already was.

"After all, the job of a Private is to look intimidating and take orders. I leave the.... um... brainthinking to my superiors."

It took Mallow a lot of self-control to not completely burst out in uncontrollable, hooting laughter in response to the Elite, but she somehow managed it.

Tightening the fold of her her wings, she raised her head and fluffed her feathers in mock-dissatisfaction and sudden boredom. "Well, if that's so," she said in an uninterested voice as her humor-filled eyes traveled up and down his frame, "then you are no use to me and my hidden agenda."

With that, she turned her body around to move off back to her hollow. "Perhaps my patient could spread my name and undeniable skills." Mallow then took a few sidesteps, but paused soon after and finally let her laughter spill out like a waterfall.

Duskwater found to his own surprise that it was impossible to hold back his own mirth at the sound of Mallow's heartfelt laughter, and he let out a quiet, rumbling chuckle into his own chest feathers. It felt strange, almost awkward, to respond so instinctively to a social situation, and he had to look away for a while, until he could pull in a deep breath and let the chuckle fade out again.

Strange, but not uncomfortable. He looked up at the medic, his smile a bit more obvious now than before, and sent a meaningful but still humorous glance at the hollow's opening.

"Personally, I wouldn't really want that one to spread my name around. Maybe if I was trying to build up a different sort of reputation..." He paused and shook his head slightly at himself. That wasn't a very good joke. Perhaps he had better quit while he was ahead.

He indicated the berries with a small, inviting getsure, followed by another smile. "Are you sure you don't want any?"

"A reputation of a scally-wag or an inept medic, perhaps? Oh, then I would get no service and I could simply loouuunge around all day. What a treat that would be!" She waved a wing as if she were some aristocratic Sentinel, but soon enough put the act and sarcasm away with a laugh. She looked back at Duskwater and sidestepped back to where she had previously been perched.

"Oh no no no, those are yours. I have plenty for myself if need be," she encouraged, and bobbed her head as she did so. "Mmhmm, you eat those."

Duskwater gave the medic another little smile that was part amusement, part gratitude that she hadn't found his little attempt at a joke as awkward as he had. However, he didn't really trust himself to keep joking around any longer - it wasn't exactly familiar territory, and one should always proceed with caution over unfamiliar territories - so he simply nodded.

"Thank you very much, miss Mallow. Then I'll just help myself to these." He gratefully - and quite quickly, now that he was certain that the medic couldn't be persuaded to have some herself - finished off the berries. Not only did they taste good, they also supplied some much-needed energy. Feeling a little bit reinvigorated, Dusk pulled in a deep breath, threw a quick, watchful glance out at the surroundings out of habit, and then turned his gaze back to Mallow.

There was nothing but good intentions in his expression when he said: "You do seem like you could benefit from having a little rest and something to eat, though. I can tell that you have done a great job, so far." But then a little glint of mischief suddenly sparkled in his eye. "I'll make sure to mention your name to my superiors later. As long as you promise not to tell them that I am this bribable."

He was a little surprised at himself, actually. Since when was he this playful? He performed a quick analysis of himself and filed the uncharacteristic behaviour away as a result of too much stress and too much work, lately.

Not that he was unhappy about it, or anything.

Mallow simply bowed her head and gave a chuckle in response to his "Thanks" before she gave her own glance around at the surrounding grove of aspens while he finished off his berries. She turned back to him quickly though, when he spoke once more.

She gave a laugh. "Oh, I promise, I won't hoot a word about your bribability," she replied, just as micheviously. But that look soon reverted back to her merry shine and she nodded her head. "And yes, I'll look into that whole 'rest' idea once I finish up with that looovely patient you brought me."

"Mmm," He replied, frowning slightly at nothing in particular. "Sorry about that." He thoughtfully scraped a talon's tip against the wood of the branch and unfolded his wings, slowly stretching them out behind him. Then he flashed the medic another subtle little smile and closed his wings again with some experimental flapping.

"Or should I perhaps say, 'she's your headache now'?" He added a quiet chuckle to let her know that he was still joking, and absent-mindedly stretched a leg out to the side. Those berries had really hit the spot. He felt pretty much good to go again. Just a few more warm-up excercises to make sure that everything felt all right...

"Oh ho ho, only until I let her loose back into society. Then she'll be all of Noctua's! Aren't we so lucky..." Mallow laughed to herself and gave a quick glance over her shoulder at the dark hollow. When she heard no alarming sounds, she turned back to Duskwater.

"Well, you look right as rain again. Mmhmm." Mallow gave a short nod of her head as the Elite warmed up.

Duskwater looked back at the medic and gave her a very honest and perhaps surprisingly warm smile. He was feeling a whole lot better, and it shone through in his demeanour.

"I think I am," he rumbled quietly, giving his wings a half-hearted flap to shake off the last of the weariness. "And it's all thanks to you. Delicious berries..."

He inclined his head in gratitude and added with perfect, innocent honesty: "...and delightful company. Thank you very much. I'll be able to fly a few more hours only on this, I believe."

Mallow gave a big enough smile that it shone in her eyes and around her beak. "Just doin' my job," she said and she bowed her head for a second. "You come back now whenever you need another pick-up, or even if you don't -- your company is always welcome." She gave a kind chuckle and nodded her head. She never had many Sentinels to just talk to. There were patients, yes, but normally the injured preferred to sit alone for a little while and not listen to her constant laughter.

Duskwater gave the Medic another nod, meant to convey that should he have the time to spare he might just do that, and spread his wings. With another wordless smile, he launched his massive form soundlessly off the branch and headed out, hooting a deep, but soft and friendly good-bye to Miss Mallow.

He hadn't really noticed before that laughter could be so refreshing. He chuckled quietly to himself. Maybe it was some sort of special Medic treatment, after all, it seemed to come so easily to her. Well, if that was the case, then it was definitely one he would like to repeat.

Mallow gave a chuckle and then a farewell hoot as she watched the Elite fly off through the trees once more. She stayed perched until he was out of sight, and seemed quite content to sit there in the silence and merry air... though her patient in the hollow didn't quite agree and was soon squawking for her.

The wildtype only smiled to herself and rolled her eyes, then hopped to the squawker's side and was out of sight.
