EVERY Christian denomination has different beliefs. I doesn't make either any less Christian as long as they believe the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ. Which is what Catholics DO believe. For goodness sakes, there are tons of Christian denominations. Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Pentacostle, Episcopalians, Catholics, even non-denominationals!

Many great authors don't intend to have things in their novels but when written, things are discovered. There's symbolism in things they didn't think about. Perhaps it was subconscious or just chance. But when I read the series I did see some symbolism that could relate to Christianity. So Rowling didn't intend for it. So?
As for talking about wizards. CS Lewis wrote his Narnia series to be religious but they have witches and talking animals. Does that mean it's not a religious book? No. razz

I wil say in the seventh book there pretty much a Bible verse on Lily and James' tomb, and the Christian overtones in that book are pretty strong. You also have to consider JKR is Christian and the western world is predominently Christian. No matter what you believe, your thoughts and actions reflect Christianity in some way. Most literature today has some form of Biblical allusion in it, including Harry Potter.
But I wouldn't say its Christian. Of course, its not evil either. It's just a work of fiction people read for enjoyment. Nothing more, nothing less.
And Catholics are definetly Christian- heck they're the original Christian- everything broke off from them.

Hm... I don't think there was a Christian core *intentionally.*
However, now that I think about it...
Voldemort resembles a serpent, and remember the Devil as a serpent?
Then, there is Lucifer Malfoy, and Lucifer is another name for Satan.
The Gryfindor *lion* defeating Slytherin *snake*
Then the fact that almost all the people in Slytherin were decisive, mean, rude, evil, etc. like Satan, and the sign for Slytherin is a snake~
And... well.... yup! That's all I could think of right now~

Except the devil is never aluded to as a snake. Go back and read the story of Adam and Eve's tempation- the devil is never mentioned.
Overall, its just a story of good vs evil, which is pretty much almost every story.

I don't really see the connection between the two passages. Just because Satan is mentioned as being serpent like in Revelations doesn't mean it was him in the Garden. Heck, most of Revelations is meant to be taken allegorically or metaphorically.
And besides, does this mean all snakes are of the devil? No. I still don't see any mention of the devil in the Gensis story. All I see is an etiological myth as to why snakes look the way they do. Sorry.

no. hp series is not Christian. there are certain parallels you can get if you tread it the right way, yes, but even the author of the books publically professed being a witch. the Bible prohibits-quite clearly-any and all forms of witchcraft, fortune tellers, magicians and the like. do i read them because they are excellently written pieces of fantsy-yes do i believe any of rowling's beliefs-no
and not all snakes are of the devil. God created everything. satan never made anything-he simply perverted God's creation. God made snakes.

I don't think so, however, in the 7th book, she quotes scripture on a headstone in Godric's Hollow... and the very end is very similar to the story of a certain savior I know... and the whole series is very much demonstrating the kind of internal struggle we go through as Christians. But I don't think she meant it to be.
