Fernpelt purred and plunged into the river. "Come join me the river is fine."

Earthpaw nodded and dipped her paw into the water before sliding in. The current wasn't too fast so she was able to stay near Fernpelt. "Why don't the other clans like water? It's nice!" she wondered.

"Other clans don't eat fish, and fish help your coat for swimming." She mewed. She went under water and back up to the surface. "What would you like to learn now?"

"Fish help our pelts? That's weird." She swam a bit while thinking of something to do. "I want to do what you did as an apprentice!" she mewed happily.

"Yup, the oil from the fish make our pelts more suited for water." She replied and led the young she-cat towards a sandy yet sunny place. "Ok, we can train now." Fernpelt mewed. "Come at me."

Earthpaw thought about the fish helping them for just a moment until her mentor told her to attack. "Ok, here I come!" she called. When she was close enough, she crouched down and pounced at Fernpelt.

Fernpelt dogged to the side and flipped Earthpaw over by sticking out her paws. "That was a good first try." Fernpelt purred. Then more sternly but still kindly she mewed, "Your movements were a little too slow and predictable. Try doing it faster and think about getting me where I can't see you."

"You were fast!" Earthpaw said as she rolled back over onto her feet. She thought for a moment before running toward Fernpelt again. She suddenly swerved toward the right and tried to trip her mentor's hind leg by using her paws.

Fernpelt was caught off surprise and the young she-cat tripped her. "Very good." She purred in delight.

Earthpaw stumbled a bit in surprise of the plan actually working, but she quickly looked up proudly. "Thanks!" she mewed before crouching to try to be ready for any counterattack.

Fernpelt purred at her apprentice's quick thinking. "You need a good counterback." She mewed.

Earthpaw tilted her head to the side. "Have you been in any big fights?" she asked curiously. "If you have, was it hard?" For some reason, she couldn't really imagine the gentle Fernpelt getting in a battle.
