It wasn't a mistake, persay, but I had this crappy old trumpet, and there was something wrong with the tuning slide. I snapped down from attention, and the tuning slide FELL OUT. gonk
I couldn't play for the rest of the show, and the assistant director[who HATED me] had to run through the color gaurd to go pick it up.
It was awful. redface

Well, when I went to my first competition, I was the first person in line to march into the field. I was nervous, but I marched out proudly. We came to a point where we had to turn, so I got ready. Unfortunatley, I sorta tripped and managed to catch myself, but by doing this I stopped. Eveyone behind me came crashing into me and each other, and it was a disaster. Right in front of the judges, we were right where they could see us perfectly!!! I was so embarassed. We lost a bunch of points 'cause of that... crying

we were resetting a part of our 1st movement during practice and i totally misjudged where the 40 yard line was, our formation was an ark and i had placed myself in the middle of it thinking that's where my spot was. my section leader started laughing at me and asked me if that's where my spot really was. i turned to him like he was retarded and said confidently "yes, of course this is my spot" then i looked around and saw everybody in the ark and ran, blushing, to my real spot

My freshman marching year, the whole band was in a giant rectangular block in between the hash lines. It was the Bands Of America Super Regional in San Antonio... I was so stunned at all the people in the crowd I lost focus. My spot was the very top left corner of the rectangle and when the time for the next set came...The whole marching band, save for me, took off double-time to the right. I, unfortunatly, went in the opposite direction. Needless to say... all the seniors were really mad at me when we reviewed the performance on tape.

My worst mistake would have to be when I stepped on my shoe lace and fell on the field at contests.

Let me see. I think I would have to say was one of my biggest mistakes was during the Visual of Death in this year's show. If any of you want to see it, there are recordings on Youtube if you find Part II of the Pride of Arizona's TTears for Fears show. Anyway, the last thing we do in part II is where we have thise really cool visual that takes place in 17 counts. We start in 5 diagonal lines. On the first count, the front line drops to their knee and by the second count, they're laying down on the ground. By count 3, the second line is stepping over them and then they go down on count 5. This process repeats all the way through the 5 lines. Well, I was in the back line so I had to step over 4 people in time before dropping to the ground in my spot. Well, we were performing on Band Day evening (this biggest performance of the year) and we were at this point in the show. Well, I tripped over the third person and landed ontop of the fourth person. Luckily, I was able to scramble over her to lay in my correct spot. What was also lucky is that you can only see it if you're really watching for it in the video. Only problem was my knee was killing me from where it hit and I still had the second half of the show to do as well as how my mouthpiece was now full of dirt.

Stale Crayons Mine wasn't really my fault, my alternate was too close to me and she didn't know where she was going, and we mad ea direction change, backwards, and I ran over her, fell down, and made the pic next to me fall too. 3 flute pile-up. then there was this time that someone ran over a french horn player in the diamond cutter. his bell was flat. and he was bleeding from his head, (munford marching band is DANGEROUS! >:3) and all the BD cared about was his horn. xp Yeah, Mellophones and French Horns are hard to replace price-wise

Well, I play Mellophone, and we had this double-time move in our percussion feature me Freshman year. I live in Illinois. It was about 13 degrees in the middle of SEPTEMBER, and the practice field was slick. My boyfriend later that year, a Senior tuba player was RUNNING to his spot after our director declaired "Hustle bunnies" (PM for that story). Well, he got his foot caught in a hole... with his sousaphone still on... he twisted his ankle, and SNAPED THE BELL IN TWO PARTS. There was another bad story about that move... Well, it was what we called a Diamond Cutter, or something like that... and then we switched to the other side... in double-time... going about 180 on the song. Well, I was an alternate, and my upper classmate was PO'd that she was "an upper classman being forced into this" ...so, well, we kinda got into a fight right off, and she decided that I would never march. Well, our BD kinda got mad at this, and I worked hard, and got pointed out a LOT, which made her even madder. One day, she couldn't march at one of our BIGGEST competitions... ...it was my first ACTUAL march...
...and I got congradulated by our BD for doing so well...
then, we also had a rotate the box for our ....6th to last drill for the closer. everytime we practiced it, I was behind her. Let's see, 5'10", me, and her at 5', if even. so if I didn't march fast enough on the backwards march, her head would go into my bell, and that caused a scar or two on the inside of my lip. (also a good friend of mine lost his shoe at the very beginning of the comp that I marched in)
This year, though, there was a new flagget (colorguard girls, as they call themselves... and Ricky lol) and she was in my was for drill everytime, but I manuvered, and the one time she clocked me, we got croud pleaser award. :3 I think I'm done.
