~Si!~Chan!~ I'm learning mallets, Normally I play woodwinds, and piano, but a friend's teaching me for fun (and indoor percussion) . Any tips? I have a friend like you and it kills me when she doesn't use the right sticking, as in she doesn't hold the mallets right and plays with her arms then her wrists. So make sure your bending your wrists to play and not your whole arm.

Mallets FTW!!! I only started learning last year, and now even the seniors are saying I'm better than them.

Much yayness there is for mallets. I only started in tenth grade playing mallets for Marching Band, my junior year I played marimba for Winter Drumline, and I had to fill in for concert band festival my senior year. It's been fun, and I love the 5-octave marimba we have at my college. It defines awesome.

Thanks xd , my friend says I'm good about not using my wrists to play, but I seem to still be working out how to hold the mallets correctly. I get it most of the time, but when I start to get tired I start turning my hands over into a french grip.

heheh ;;^^ everyone is in high school-sniffles- im still in middle school, but im JUST BARELY learning how to play the xylophone,-this year- and so far, im kicking a** cause i got bumped up to intermediate band after the winter break!! and im also pretty much playing everything, cause everyone wants to play on the drumset, and im pretty much the one out of two people who want to play mallets....so i get stuck on all of them ;;^^
i hope i do good enough to make it to high school marching band one day...-sighs dreamily- *-*
oi, wish me luck!! cause its only getting harder and harder...-shudders-

Mallet Players are quite nifty neato. I'm our schools resident mallet percussionist, the other kinda know how to play but I'm the only one who plays them primarily. I love the Marimba, it's just so epic, but I officially hate playing the chimes cause I always get yelled at for not playing loud enough when my ear are practically bleeding. Haha, but I'm a mallet gal for life heart

Mallet percussionists are just awesome. Why? Cause it takes more talent to play them than beating a drum. I'm probably going to get run down by all the percussionists out there. XD But no, I like percussionist friends and every other instrument. ^-^
My favorite has been the xylo or vibes. But I tend to switch around depending on the song. ^^ I miss high school because our mallet percussion instruments were great! Now, the city college I go to doesn't have very much and someone stole their glock set. T^T

Actually I think I prefer vibes over marimba. Just cause. XD Playing four mallets and playing runs are both easier on marimba, but I just like the sound of vibes better. :3
